Ah, the Zhentarim...I always enjoy having them introduced. The fact that they are a villainous organization on a grand-scale...but be comprised of members who are not necessarily evil themselves...is a really interesting concept. I had a character who had the "Mercenary" background, and owed much of their loyalty & support to the Zhentarim for lifting them from poverty...he, like many in his group, had the Zhentarim logo tattooed on his back. ...which made for interesting conversations when the rest of the party saw it: being associated with an "evil" organization is pretty damning. But the Zhentarim work in cells...and the smaller, individual groups never get a sense that they are, in fact, serving a larger, sinister force. They're just doing jobs. They're just mercenaries. Some are pretty decent folk...others...well, maybe they enjoy it TOO much. It's fun to see how the other players react...and how the DM uses it.
I rule the modern Zentharim as a Mafia-like organization, they want control of the business, if the money keeps flowing and it's in their hands, everyone is happy. If you want to open your business and cut them off, maybe you get a dagger on your door, maybe your horsecart loses a wheel, then if you don't get the message kneecaps start flying or your son goes on a completely harmless trip in the woods with a Zhent associate, just to drive home the point they could get your son any day... :')
I imagine right now Sorcerers with access to the Daylight spell and the ability to extend the duration would be in demand for indoor/greenhouses in Icewind Dale.
I am running my first campaign as a DM and I am using the Storm King's Thunder as source material. So here I am, having my players running through Icewind Dale and me taking the reigns of the adventure and thinking: "Let's spice up the journey". So what was some sort of wilderness picnic with some random encounters has developed in 3 different dungeons, several encounters and events,. some trout fishing, and a short epic story for my players to truly become the heroes of Icewind Dale. And then D&D is about to release a full-fledged adventure about the Dale. Talk about timing!
I am so happy I found this video, one of my characters is from Ten Towns but I didn't know what the social structure of it was like. Thank you guys so much the information my game hopefully would get more interesting with this lol
Really excited for Frostmaiden. I'm running Tryanny of Dragons, and the party will soon be up in Icewind Dale. Can't wait to see what new things I can throw at my players
So... Bryn Shander has the only smithy in all of Ten Towns? There is another smithy in Icewind Dale, but not in the Ten Towns (flipping pages here...). And yet, in the Blackiron Blades entry it says that veteran sellswords disdain Garn's craft. If they are not buying their weapons at the *only* smithy in all of Ten Towns, where do they get them?
I love the Zhentarim and their influence. They make such an antihero organization focused on dominating trade. It will make Icewind Dale even more interesting
I wish we saw more about summer in the area. You do not have mammals (except those that live most of their life in the water) if the temperatures never get warm enough for the snow to thaw so organic food can grow.
I’m curious with the magical storms keeping people from leaving the Dale, how exactly would foreigners get into the dale during this predicament, I have a player coming from Waterdeep and a player coming from Baldur’s Gate?
I don't know what the story will be, but I would love to play a game where the first levels the players are in Ten Towns before the magical storms, getting to know the place and the people so the "hard choices" they'll have to make when the Frostmaiden is angry will be significantly harder
Hit by lightning and found themselves magically transported? A nightmare featuring Auril herself beckoning them with a destiny in the Dale - when they awake they find themselves at the start location shivering and alone? Lots of ways you could do it.
It was running away from their troubles elsewhere that brought them to Ten-Towns. The people there literally fled north until there was no more world left to run to. The knucklehead trout is what kept them, there--that, and the fear of ever going back where they came from.
Its not that hard to imagine why you're in the Ten Towns/ID area. The easiest being that you were there before the pass closed and are trapped and decided to stand up and figure out what's wrong. Or maybe you fell into a magical portal in a forest in Kara Tur and it teleported you into the center of a Blizzard right outside the gates of Bryn Shander. Or you're simply a denizen of Ten Towns. Or literally anything really.
Lost in the Aether : no "portal" thing thank you. But if you was here when the pass closed, it means that you are in Ten Towns for 2 years... It's a long time doing nothing. And if your players don't want to be ten towners here we are again. And i don't speak of the Arcana Brotherhood : they aren't ten towners and yet they are stuck here. But i will find something of course. I just wanted a rational start, like winter-is-coming-start ! 😅
A little late to respond as the module has been out for a long while but the pass IS POSSIBLE to get through it is just MOST PEOPLE get lost and few people make it through but it is very treacherous. It says in the module some merchants and traders still make their way there just very VERY few.
So, if people wouldn't blink twice about a goblin coming into town. Please explain to me how Goblins arebnot an authorized race choice for Season 10 of Adventures League, how they do not fit the theme of this season?

Something like this would have been really helpful for Storm Kings Thunder considering Bryn Shander is one of the starting locations lmao

After Chris made a brief in passing mention of Kara-tur reminds me that, I Hope That DnD 5e will revisit that part of the Realms again someday soon.
My favorite setting and we get a whole new adventure in it... Can't wait for Tuesday!
It's always good to see Greg and Chris together talking about D&D Lore.
Icewind Dale was my first DnD video game, so I’m so excited to go back ⛄️🥶 ❄️
I loved IWD as a kid. Had no idea what the numbers meant, but I was determined to go on the adventure to save the day.
IWD2 was what got me into d&d
I want to live in a neighborhood where Chris Perkins is the president of the HOA! Mandatory d&d games for the whole neighborhood!
Glad this wasn't a repeat of the previous one . Much appreciated guys
I am so happy I found this video, one of my characters is from Ten Towns but I didn't know what the social structure of it was like. Thank you guys so much the information my game hopefully would get more interesting with this lol
It seems Ten Towns might miss Drizzt, Bruenor and the other companions, along with the stout dwarven clan. Lol had to say it.
Give me Dice Camera Action! I need more Chris Perkins on a regukar basis damnit... D:
Mr. Perkins,
When can we expect to see you back behind the "Cheat Screen"?
Really excited for Frostmaiden. I'm running Tryanny of Dragons, and the party will soon be up in Icewind Dale. Can't wait to see what new things I can throw at my players
These sorts of videos are great, thanks for the lore content.
I feel like the snakes are a pretty big giveaway…
Brunuer, Arkann, wulfgar, caddie brie, drizzit, Regis, the crystal shard some of best lore.
GOT: "Winter is coming..."
Icewind Dale: "Here, hold my beer..."
I’ve lived in a town population size very similar to Bryn Shander.
Places like these actually exist IRL
Icewind Dale, my favourite!
I support all Chris Perkins related content.
I just realized that Perkins spelled backwards is Snikrep. Fascinating...

Axebeaks! If I can't have Owlbears, then give me Axebeaks, and you have my support!
Look in the monster manual
Just would like to Express my longing for a return of dca! Hope you and yours are all keeping well.
I’m curious with the magical storms keeping people from leaving the Dale, how exactly would foreigners get into the dale during this predicament, I have a player coming from Waterdeep and a player coming from Baldur’s Gate?
I think it's possible because a few of the secrets some PC'S can get deal with fleeing from the outside.
I don't know what the story will be, but I would love to play a game where the first levels the players are in Ten Towns before the magical storms, getting to know the place and the people so the "hard choices" they'll have to make when the Frostmaiden is angry will be significantly harder
Ian juarez my character is from icewind Dale, plan is to bring my party to his home, good question. I suspect you can arrive but not leave.
Hit by lightning and found themselves magically transported? A nightmare featuring Auril herself beckoning them with a destiny in the Dale - when they awake they find themselves at the start location shivering and alone? Lots of ways you could do it.
Very excited to have some fun in Ten Towns
My two favorite gentlemen in one place!
It was ivory that brought people. The knucklehead fish meant an abundance of ivory.
It was running away from their troubles elsewhere that brought them to Ten-Towns. The people there literally fled north until there was no more world left to run to. The knucklehead trout is what kept them, there--that, and the fear of ever going back where they came from.
Read the Legend of Drizzt books. They hold lots of relevant info for this campaign
But... How did the characters even come to this place ? The pass is closed, the sea of moving ice impossible to navigate...
I was wondering that too

some interesting tid bits there. Excited for the book on Wednesday!
Chris still waiting for your new game stream...
I think I've found the perfect place to play my Dragonborn Barbarian, Rhaazovaan.
Got mine coming
I hope the HOA meetings at least have food and drinks :)
Is this video good for player knowledge in building characters or is this more for DMs?
GAAAH, Chris please let me listen to you speak about DnD in some capacity more than these occasional treats! D:
So Sept 15th is the release date ? Thought it was moved to the 29th.
Good video, looking forward to Icerime.
Clicked like button before it starts

Are there any spoilers in this video? I'm about be in it as a player but I don't want any spoilers. Thanks!
Please do one on Netheril! And of course invite @ChrisPerkinsDnD!
Disregard. I found it! :)
