@@Jorphdan lol! Yea, -40c is definitely cold, but it's NOT the North. Though these days with melted ice packs and flows it's surprisingly warm North. Hell, Nunavut was +24c yesterday and it's mid June! Best get out the summer mukluks!

I was just thinking that lol. I live in the boundary waters on the US side and the weather here is that
-53 Celsius this winter on the low end. (Southern-central Alberta)

FYI - a ‘Cairn’ (Keh-rn) is a pile of rocks traditionally compiled by mountaineers who reach the top of a mountain. You get to the top, add a rock to the cairn.
I thought it was the rocks you toss on your dead buddy so the animals don't tear'em apart.
The ground is frozen so no burials.
I've only ever heard cairn to refer to a more-or-less "above ground" burial, done by piling stones over the corpse.
Crystal Shard made this one of my favourite areas.
Pal: damn this place is cold, I'll call it Icewind Pal.

Oh god your on an amazing journey filled with alot of great moments and moments that'll make you cry, i just bought Boundless, ive lost count of how many books are in the whole series (somewhere around 30) but they are sooo good that you'll be caught up and waiting on the next one before you realize it

Well this pretty much confirms the Icewind Dale book
Also as far as the northern glacier, if you go to the far Eastern side of the glacier which is really far, you will find a city that's basically a giant greenhouse called sossul, I found it in an Old second ed book that had a map of the glacier. There's also a lot of settlements of wild dwarfs
I've been looking for everything I can find on Sossal, just because I like torturing myself. Do you think you could either tell me what you know of it or provide a link to the book you're referring to?

@@freduruk6623 google and years ago i stumbled into a torrent of 2e books.there's a book that even has a bunch of faerun gods in 2e that has fluff and talks about what the clergy breaks down into. waukeen's are profit prophets lol.

Icewind Dale is just my city lol!! I live in Winnipeg... -40 weather, pffft! Excuse me while I sip on my slurpee in the frigid cold! (We are also the slurpee capital of the world, 15+ years running)

One thing that doesn't get talked about in Salvatore books is something my friends and I found digging through old books from way back. Icewind Dale is a salt flat so they are able to farm and do all kinds of crap it's not blizzard year round it's actually a slightly less crappy replacement it's actually described LOL

icewind dale is an awesome game, just gets better as the game progresses.
It’s wild to me that there are like minimum ten different sapient species that build cities etc and they have apparently been around for like countless aeons and yet there are still “frontier land” supposedly untouched by civilization.
Love your videos wish they were longer though. They are very interesting and easy to listen to.

Cairn is pronounced like "urn", but with "care" instead of the "u" sound. It's Celtic, meaning a pile of stones, usually denoted for burial spots.
So it's pronounced like "urn" but it's not pronounced like "urn" because it doesn't have the "u" sound? Ok. Better to say "care" with an "n" added at the end.
Guess my idea of a Drow settlement in the north would have to be a semi-nomadic tribe.
The Dwarves in the cairne aren't allied with the Dwarves of the Battlehammer clan... They ARE the Battlehammer clan.
I find it strange that Kelvin's Cairn is only 1000 foot tall. I would have hoped for something more Impressive than 300 metres. Mt Everest is 25000 feet tall!
Yeah when I ran The Kelvin's Cairn rescue mission I made it 20,000 ft and it took the party several gruelling days to climb to the top.

Cairn is an ancient pile of rocks, or a circle of rocks. And by ancient I mean the Neolithic or before. It's pronounced sorta like saying 'car' in American, with an 'n' on the end.
Based on the average temperatures you gave, it's not that bad, just a little colder than Moscow, where I used to live. It's far from properly actic.

Priests, deities, and the servitors of deities (“angels” and the like) make various claims, and a lot of these contradict each other.
Dwarves valiant in battle often believe their souls wind up in a hall of heroes where they feast and brawl and practise until the gods have need of them to do battle, or to be “reforged” (by Moradin, at his forge) into new dwarves and sent back to live again.
Dwarf smiths and crafters believe the afterlife that awaits them is a series of spacious, wonderfully-equipped workshops where they can fulfillingly create ever-better items, knowing true satisfaction and becoming ever better at creating items that are innovative as well as ever-better-made.
Dwarf clerics believe they are the “true servants” of the (dwarven) gods, and will be first to be chosen to serve anew as a new dwarf living a new life.
Many mortals, of various races, have sages and learned priests who hold that the souls of the dead gravitate to the plane that is the home of the deity the living mortal most worshipped or best served in life, and there they dwell with their ‘chosen’ deity as petitioners, until they merge with the plane (their sentience dissolving), ascend to a planar form (an “angel” or some other sort of creature native to their god’s plane), or are reborn on the Prime Material Plane at the behest of their deity, either as themselves to fulfill some unfinished mission, or to live a new life.
