I think what Roy is looking for is the traditional Audio button (to switch language or audio output tracks on a disc) found on all BD \ Dvd players. I have a Samsung 4K BD player and it also doesn't have a Audio switching button (nor a Subtitles) for that matter. Love this review btw, simple and straight to the point!
Any idea how to safely remove usb from the player? Can't seem to figure out where the eject feature is? Don't want to keep just unplugging, risk of losing data. Thanks in advance.
Solid review, I was able to get a Sony X700 in 2020 for $149 and other than issues with BD100 discs it's been great. I looked at the LG back then but the lack of Dolby Vision was what made me go with the Sony.
@@b-icemedia LG has discontinued all Blu-ray players, including the UBK80 and UBK90 UHD Blu-ray players, with remaining units only available while stocks last.
Hi this review has left me a bit confused being new to the scene. I've just bought this to play HD ultra discs ( the black case ones) you said it plays HDR 10 but not HDR 10+ or HDR Dolby? I'm confused is there a difference in the black labeled uhd 4k discs?
Hey, Darren! You have the correct discs, but there are several HDR formats for 4k UHDs. HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. It's usually stated toward the bottom half of the case.
You need to make sure your display mode is set to 24hz rather than 60hz like you have in your other video of this LG player. I don't know of any disc based physical media (movies/tv shows) that uses 60hz mode. That may be where your issue is.
That’s definitely a possibility! It’s what it came defaulted as out of the box. Maybe their thought process was it would ensure extra smoothness in frame rate during playback? I’m not sure.
Remember the 4k player has the settings for visuals as the TV.Be sure they match Standard setting for the TV Standard setting for the 4k disc player with each Disc.
I hate that Blu-ray’s and physical media is dying 😢 Just today LG pulled out of the market. Seems like the only people that are going to be making players are Xbox and PlayStation and only Xbox’s can do 4K UHD.
It's definitely sad to see. Sony, Panasonic, and a few other brands such as Magnetar and Reavon are still making 4K players. I think it'll start to make a resurgence in the near future with sales upticking on 4K steelbooks and collector's editions.
I'm planning to buy the model UBK80S, which is basically the same as this UBK80. I'm just wondering. If I connect this Blu-ray player into my old home theater, am I still able to watch UltraHD movies? My TV does support UltraHD video. And thanks for this video. Helped me to understand more about he Blu-ray player.
i just picked this up today from FB marketplace for $25 so i can't complain about the price. however, i put top gun: maverick (4K UHD) in and i'm having audio distortion right off the bat from the jet engine noise in the movie. dialogue seems ok but i'm wondering if the issue is that the disc audio output is 5.1 dolby and i am using a Vizio M213ad-K8 2.1 soundbar. however, when i played the disc from my PS5 on a different tv with the same soundbar setup in the past, there was no audio issues. i popped in a copy of the transformers: the movie 4K UHD and haven't noticed any audio distortion switching between 2.0 and 5.0 audio output. wonder if it could be an HDMI cable problem? other than that, it is pretty bare bones and i just wanted a blu-ray player for cheap to watch old stuff when i wanted and since this was a 4K UHD and only $25, i went ahead and got it.
Dang, you got a good deal on it! Hmm, does it also sound distorted on normal TV speakers? I don't think it has anything to do with the player when it comes to the audio distortion. It could be an HDMI problem, or it may be too much low end bass for the soundbar too.
It didn't happen every playback, but it did happen in two out of the three movies I watched on it. It's so quick that you'll miss it if you're not watching the screen every second.
LG is apparently dropping production of their 4K players..... While I'd never buy one, this is BAD news for physical media - another brand off the player market.😢 On a side note... you mentioned "one of the best builds you've seen so far" or something along those lines.... did you ever see or touch a Panasonic UB9000, Oppo UDP-203/205, Cambridge Audio CXUHD, Pioneer LX-800, Reavon or Magnetar? That LG doesn't boast an impressive build; maybe for this class, but not compared to others out there (discontinued or not).

Where is the audio button switch on the remote? Roy Wilbraham
I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but the only audio related button on the remote is the TV volume controls at the bottom.

I've had this player since 2019 and it works great along with wireless surround speakers and soundbar (each sold separately)
Glad you're enjoying it! It's definitely nice for the price.
Do you notice the stutter when playing movies? Thinking about getting it but not sure how bad the stuttering would be...
this video helps me a lot. thanks
Thanks for watching!

You should be fine to remove it whenever the player is turned off, but if you want to be extra cautious, then you could unplug the player completely.

@@b-icemediai have a LG and lg sound bar. If I get a LG 4k, Blu-ray player will that optimized my experience? Or really doesn’t matter?
@@Jorge-tq1iu No, that desn't really matter. It just makes things compatible with the same remotes.
The LG UBK90 has Dolby Vision.
Hard to get in europe.. I hope that LG is not exiting the blu-ray Player production..
I’m hoping not either! There’s not many options these days.

I have the Panasonic UB820 as my main player, and that's what you see connected to my receiver.

Yes, I did notice that when tinkering with the settings! I'll have a full video on all of the settings next Friday.
You should've got the UBK90. It has Dolby vision. It also has just two apps and WiFi.
I would have, but it's been discontinued. It can't be bought new in stores or online unless it's from third-parties.
@@b-icemedia Aw no I never knew that. It's ridiculous, soon they'll be no options at all.🙄

Reavon stopped making their players too. It's down to the overpriced Magnetars and the Panasonics (the Sonys aren't long for this world either).

Yes, as long as that model is a 4K player, then it will.
Hey Ice, I"m considering buying this player for $160 do you think its worth it? Appreciate your content.
Eh, somewhat. At the end of the video I explained I would be a little hesitant because of slight stuttering that happened during playback for me.
Is it as good as a Panasonic or a Sony? 😊
I'd prefer this over Sony's 4K players because of the 4K freezing issues, but I'd stick with Panasonic any day!

firmware update
It does support updates, and it was updated to the latest software.
i wouldnt buy an LG player but i would a Panasonic one as they look better and are slightly cheaper
Yes, agreed! Panasonic's are the players to beat right now.
