    Oh Wow! I gotta pond on a golf course I get to fish at dawn and dusk that's LOADED with bluegill. This bug will work great! Thanks for the tie!

    I am used to wrapping the lead around the shank in touching wraps along the shank. Your tip about making a “ball” at the end of the shank sounds good for this fly.

      Yeah for this fly this is needed. The fly wouldn’t sink the way it’s supposed to without the weight at the end

    This is one of my favorite flies. I like tying it with a Chartreuse body, White Legs and Red Thread. Terry Wilson ties this fly using Medium Chenille instead of the Micro chenille, as do I. Either way, it catches fish.

      I agree! A good fly for sure! And yes, red thread on this is a killer as well. So many color combos it’s crazy! Lol

    Nice, I never thought about using lead on my pattern. Am I the first one to watch one of your videos while out on a boat ?

    I got a question. I am wondering what amount of wraps of lead wire you put on to get the right sink rate. I made some up and I felt like a put enough lead on them. The only problem is some sank super slow and then others didn't even want to sink at all. I did use a different hook then you. I wonder if that had something to do with it. It was a TMC 100.

      @McFlyAngler  5 років тому

      Double up the lead wraps, and yeah maybe try a thicker hook. But I’ve never had issues with them sinking. I don’t count the wraps, I just wrap till it looks about right, but it is quite a few.

      Btw, slow sink is what you want...

    McFly, question: I need a new 5 wt reel for fishing dam tail waters. My budget is $75-$100. What's your recommendation? Great vids, by the way! Thanks

      Its hard to go wrong with any of the Piscifun reels. I mean for the price. But there are a few american made reels in the $100 range. I think Lamson makes one thats about $100. But thats such a low price that its hard to find "quality" reels. I would say a Piscifun Sword 2 (its only $50) or the Piscifun Crest ($100) both are good reels. I mean each has their own issues, but still far and away better than anything else at that price range in my opinion.

    Is it castable with spinning gear, or too light?

      i use a bubble or foam float it doesn't scare them at all ,I dry fly fish also with a spinning bubble\float ,many many fish taken with this method,\just my 2 cents,but very true.

    You should pick up the bluegill belly bean from frankenfly's website. Its an awesome streamer pattern.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 років тому +1

      I’ve seen it, very nice! More of a streamer though, and more for larger fish. Kinda too big for targeting panfish.
