How to play commander: Do whatever you want as long as it's within the rules, the banlist, and in good sportsmanship. Just in case people don't know what good sportsmanship is: - Not being a sore loser - Not being a sore winner - Not shunning players - Not mocking players for what they play - Not making a pariah of those players because of how they choose to spend their disposable income - Not being a toxic player - Not riding a highhorse as if your way to play Commander is the only true and pure way to play Commander.
Preach. The spirit of the format is doing what you (and most of the time your playgroup also) find fun. Not what other people tell you is and isn't fun. Some people ride a high horse so high on their own ego that they push their philosophies on the masses. Do you find it fun? Are the people you're playing with find it fun also? Awesome.
@@recaydiuscystefar2683 I just feel like players unconsciously forget that the second half of the name of this game is "the Gathering". We should be building more bridges than schisms. A lot of people have the mentality he seems to be ridiculing. Hey now, the commander PWs are pretty fair. You know you can't just sit pretty when your commander shakes in fear of every bird in the format. Damn you, slightly evasive creatures!
True, but from my experience with planeswalkers as commanders, the most frustrating part is that some decks just aren’t equipped to deal with that. People bring in targeted removal for creatures pretty much universally for creatures, because with 3 opponents with commanders there’s almost always a target. Obviously if that’s part of your meta you should play around the fact your opponent has a planeswalkers that demands attention, and I really overall don’t mind the printed legal planeswalker commander and think they should stay as-is, but it’s just something on my mind.

I have only been back into Magic again after 12+ years being away.
Jokes on you, some weirdo who just builds budget decks and makes weird episodes made a deck revolving around Phenax for around $25. This price is excluding the cost of the commander, basic lands, Wayfarer's Bauble and is also using the TCGPlayer optimizer including heavily played and damaged cards, because those cards need a home too.
My first commander deck given to me by a friend who was teaching how to play for the first time…. Was a deck heavily revolved around land destruction lol

About green players getting ahead with tons of lands. I usually do one of two things (and sometimes both) to deal with that if I am not being that player (lol): 1) If the green player is getting a super advantage over others with their mana base, tax them a lot! "Oh, you wanna cast that artifact? Cool! Just pay 1 to my rhystic study so I don't draw, 1 to aura of silence, 1 to Dovin and 1 to Grand Arbiter Augustin IV!". War's toll also helps to screw their game! 2) Target them first. (If the entire table besides you is playing green focused on lands, well, maybe you should consider adapting to this meta a bit without beaking the social contract).
I'm glad someone said it, with land destruction off the table, green's land ramp is insanely strong and often hard to outpace. It really is amazing how much I prefer Sultai to Dimir for the reason of ramp alone. Funny enough it's not the ramp that makes it good with cedh because the decks come out so fast with neutral mana rocks. Mana dorks tend to be a lot better though since there's less board wipes running around.
I found this quite useful to look into. I’m planning to play some Commander at some point, as I currently have 3 decks built. One is Rakdos, which deals with discarding and heavy assault and burn. The second is RGB, which is very land based but also about building up my creatures to be extremely powerful for a good swing. The third, which is the newest deck I built just tonight, is RWUG, with Omnath, Locus of Creation as my commander, using the landfall mechanics to the max for HEAVY ramp, some control and field wipe power, and a major use of just constant landfall effects so I can wipe everything away (except lands, of course). I think it’s nice and I’m excited to try the decks out. Also got the Otrimi Mutate deck that Wizards released and it’s just a playful one I can’t wait to REALLY start mutating with.
I can't wait to see a commander game with all four of Mitch's personalities

16:16 I feel called out
I found this quite useful to look into.
"wait, what?"
"that's not fair!"
This may be the best video Mitch has ever made.
Power levels 9 and 10 don't exist. Good stuff.
Wow i watched this to learn how to play commander and now i don't wanna touch the format with a ten foot pole, good job XD
I don’t even know why I’m watching this, but I am
Well done! Just started planning commander myself and enjoyed the "training video".
