- Today we are playing an absolute slam dunk commander game using the new precons from Modern Horizons 3. Watch as Charlie, Matt, Ryan, and Drew duke it out in a commander game for the ages!
I don't leave comments usually but I have to say this is one of the most entertaining things watching Matt figure it out while Charlie pretends he's a seasoned player.
Charlie is as seasoned as boiled chicken
Lmao no but this was so entertaining
That's the natural pattern of magic lol
I can't wait for the inevitable Post Malone episode where Charlie just fangirls the whole game.
father has blessed us once more with more mtg
Thank you papa
"your propaganda doesnt affect dinosaur energy" and then matt hitting him with the "isnt that just oil?" Is a BANGER joke and deserves so much more credit 😂
So funny
I love that Matt was so careful and organized with his board and Charlie just had random stacks of lands all pointing different directions
Around the 54min mark, Matt missed that his Finale let's him untap 5 lands... which with Mana Reflections is a lot of mana to play his newly drawn hand
Would have been huge.
He also could have done that elephant a ton more and gotten rid of Charlie's Eldrazi. I think at one point he played it (after the first time he ever used it) and he didn't use the effect to destroy 3 things. So because of that Charlie got 2 damage off on him with Endbringer. And then I think if he copied it, it would have happened again right? I mean it didn't matter much since Charlie had a spell to kill him but still.
@@taylorcrawford4387 the elephant does not target creatures, it states non creatures. could have gotten rid of lands but would also have given him 3 3/3 bodys
@@kingnyx1439 Thanks, I couldn't recall if it said non creature permanent or non land.
I get triggered when the experienced players don't point out the extra busted things you can do with these cards, that's 14+ mana with a fresh shitload of cards he could have played, like cmon man.
1:25:45 "Destroy target nonbasic land" - Proceeds to destroy Ulalek
about as nonbasic as you can get
XDDD was just looking to see if anybody else noticed this, man thinks volatile fault is godlike land/removal
Just watched this moment, needed to make sure I wasnt the only one who noticed
If it did not mean Moist would need to get on a plane, I would love to see Charlie on the Prof's shuffle up and play.
Would prefer command zone rather than profs show
Naw profs is more fun. Less fake oohs and aahs more actual conversation.
@@milohummon8753 Elder Dragon Hijinks and Commander at Home is full of that stuff.
@@stefanpedias4511 command zone is cringe af
@@stefanpedias4511actually feral
The mtg curse is burning strong over here and we are here for it.
Same!
Turn 1 bounce land + discard sure seems funny until Turn 2 is Swamp+Reanimate 😂
Its all fun and games until you make your discard play and get bogged.
I've definitely done that. It really taught me to read my cards better
Just a tip for any time you create a copy of a permanent (small missplay at ~ 1:00:10): When copying a permanent, it enters as a copy of that permanent only with the characteristics printed on the card/permanent being copied (ETB and/or ''enters with' will all take effect). In such case, the aethersphere harvester myriad copies would indeed enter the battlefield and give energy, but they would only be vehicles, NOT creatures, nor would they have lifelink as both of those effects are not printed on the card. The same is true if you copy a permanent that is modified (counters, enchantment, etc); the counters are not copied, but the permanent is. Notably, you would not be able to suddenly crew these vehicles and attack with them either given attacks have already been declared.
A few subtle exceptions to this copy rule are mutated permanents and copying copies:
When copying a mutated permanent, you copy the 'entire' permanent ie. all printed keywords and abilities of the mutated creature which can include abilities of multiple cards so long as they are part of the same mutated creature (if there are multiple cards that make up a mutated creature, they are treated as the same game object and thus the entire object is copied). See Tawnos, the Toymaker for some fun shenanigans.
If you copy a permanent that is a copy of another permanent, you copy the copied permanent as it exists on the battlefield. Ex. If 'Evil Twin' enters as a copy of a grizzly bear, it enters as a grizzly bear with its activated ability. If you then copy the Evil Twin Grizzly Bear with another copy effect, you get a copy of grizzly bear with the activated ability of Evil Twin, not just a grizzly bear.
I don't have the specific rules references but if anyone would like to add them below, feel free. Cheers, and thanks for the video!
Call me Katniss Everdeen the way I’m hungry for these games
That was a great comment.
Me not understanding anything about this game but I’m just here for Charlie and the boys: “I like your funny words, magic man!”
Brutal to put matt on the simic deck when he's new
That precon is devastating. Tried playing it unchanged and the amount of mana the deck generates is absurd. It's just missing some strong payoffs with the mana you generate and some counterspells to protect your most important pieces. Definitely NOT a beginner deck though.
Let’s not act like simic has difficult mechanics here
@@RM22201 generally, you are right. But for a new player the interaction in the Tricky Terrain deck actually are .........well......tricky lol
All this leading up to a Post Malone, Professor, Wubby, Charlie Showdown!
You know what is even funnier is that the simic one is generally better but just a bit harder to pilot
The amount of missed energy that would've been generated from the aetherwork is quite concerning
remember, MANA VAULT IF TAPPED < deals u 1 damage at upkeep... Charlie... lol
This was a tonne of fun to listen too. I didn't even watch, just listened while you guys played while im at work and you guys make it so interesting even just on audio alone. Im excited to keep seeing these
I literally said twice this week "I need a new skill check commander game"
And now I have my bourbon and an evening satisfied, cheers gentlemen
cheers mate
You guys are so much fun to watch I don't get to play as much as I would like these are a good substitute keep them coming!
Matt asks of we "have time" at 9:35 LOL
Matt is doing a great job
Matt missed a part of his card at 54min. He before exiling the sorcery he was able to untap 5 lands which would have netted him 10 more mana and then had 15 cards to play. I love commander though because its way more chill. When I was playing with my friends routinely we all misread cards for weeks before our other friend was like read it and changed the way my deck played lol
16 mana even, several of his land tap for 2 each.
Yep, TCG games with buddys and misreading cards is how it goes. Sometimes even after you figure out the correct way to play you just say whatever, keep playing it like you normally do since its funner that way, lol. Playing the PC version of TCG has taught me how to play way more then reading the cards themselves, lol. Kind wish there was a TCG that was both fun, and not so crazy with its cards effects.
@@lordfrz9339 I totally agree. Standard MTG makes me go insane because its all about the meta and not even having fun (unless your fun is only sourced from winning). Good luck on finding a TCG that isnt insane lol
There's no way Charlie held onto that for that long knowing he could have won when Matt decked out the other dude 😂😂😂 that is what I call prolonging the inevitable 😂😂
Tai lung - this battle shall be legendary
Hell yeah, keep these coming boys
"You wanna shut the fuck up and leave me alone?"
That shit made me cackle.
I didnt understand any of this but I did enjoy watching you all play . Very entertaining .
been waiting for more commander games
really loving this editing with clear card description
I tried to fall asleep listening to this but I got to the part where Drew was rhythmically flicking the cards for a few minutes straight and it woke me up lol welp
I don’t play magic or DnD but I’ve watched every episode on this channel you guys are great! ❤
I really hope the campaign picks up momentum again, I need more 💪
I got into magic because of Charlie, thanks Charlie. I am also thousands in debt, thanks Charlie.
Same I’m not in debt but fuck this game is addictive
Try Flesh and Blood too! Also great fun lotta mtg people drawn in
@@GothamKnight-hsw4vx526430 i'm poor now tho
I do love the various nuanced rules that come up being explained with proper examples.
I need so many more of these videos! It would also be fun to see more alternative modes that aren't so common.
There's a reason why those modes aren't that common. They're not that popular because a few archetypes tend to dominate. We're seen more green/blue combos in modern thanks to Nadu, but it's far from being the red/black dominant combo brought by Ravagan, Sheoldred, and Orcish Bowmasters.
Good to see Charlie enjoying Commander it really is the best casual format in magic
The Eldrazi deck foreshadowed what was to come
YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
YESSS KEEP POSTING THESE!!!
I think it's really fitting that Charlie is playing the Eldrazi precon, he did pull that serialized Eldrazi (I don't remember which one) lol 😂
Charlie got me into mtg with his card opening videos now I have 2 commander decks and am thinking about a third one. This addiction grabs you hard and fast. So far I’ve only made outlaws of thunder junction decks.
Volatile Fault seemed busted this game!
The volatile fault should not have been able to kill Charlie's commander cause it does say non-basic land. It mattered a bit cause he could've copied the card he played and had two creatures, both with haste which Charlie probably forgot about, that could've attacked and almost, if not killed, Matt. But there was a lot of missed stuff and it's not meant to be a competitive game and just for fun :)
@@solorider66 lmao I know I was being cheeky about it
YEAH BABY! THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITIN FOR!
This is so fun thank you for letting us watch the games
Im so glad i live in a universe where mtg is getting so much hype from all my favorite folks.
Maskwood Nexus is in the Disa deck so you can self mill any creature and put it onto the battlefield since they would be all creature types including Lhurgoyf (and yes that also includes Grist)
Lets goooo! I was so hyped for this!
Just a little note, for amped raptor at around minute 46, if you cannot cast the spell that it finds immediately, the spell is exiled forever instead of being able to cast whenever you wanted to
Love these games
20:05 When the commander attacks, you get 2 energy so you would have had 3 and maybe not had to sacrifice the ripper token. I haven't played with that commander so idk if I am right or if y'all caught it later. Great episode so far!
Actually they messed up that entirely the token comes in tapped and attacking, therefore no attack trigger to net an energy.. this entire play was wrong lol
I would watch this channel even more if this is the only type of content that you did. Love ❤
Yellow hair is so aggressive but such a nerd at the same time, these are definitely conflicting story arcs and makes him interesting to watch play
Oh heck yes more addiction content
Charlesmtg content is such a down to earth begginer vibe with the most expensive versions of everything. Perfectly balanced
Keep up the commander games!
Nice. Also when the sphere of oblivion went off Ryan's arcane signet was suppose go into the graveyard.
Why even resist? He’s just gonna slap your hiney with that new Eldrazi 😂
Matt's first card being Simic Growth Chamber was crazy cause i was sleeving a deck watching this video and Simic Growth Chamber was the next card i had lol
please take it out :D
@@shikarymtg Why would he take out one of the best lands in the deck?
When he kept attacking with razorfield ripper and not adding the one extra energy was sooo annoying haha 😂
For a second there, I thought you would play the decks without sleeving 😂
farewell top deck when on the verge of death is truly what magic is all about.
So good I had to watch it twice
man I would love to see these guys in Vegas this year for Magic Con 2024, it would be a hopeful dream if it didnt mean charlie would have to get on a plane
I really appreciate the editing of your commander games. Those Game Knights dudes have nothing on you, I don't think they've ever used something as high quality as the spanish_metal_pipe.mp3.
The Energy precon is sick. Cant wait to combine it with science.
Long time sealed Pokémon vintage and modern collector but I bought my first Magic product yesterday being the Eldrazi commander. Now I’ve got a few collectors booster boxes on the way to rip and see if I get hooked or end up putting it all in a bulk box and moving on with my life.
Sick retro intro!! Makes me think some sick skateboarding is coming up next ;)
If you need new players to fill in short notice I am your guy!!! I don't mind flying commercial and I am not picky about 5 star hotels.. Sushi every meal?? Let me know and I'll connect you to my agent!!
Love how Matt the newest play ended up with arguably the most complex / need to know game knowledge deck.
I’m so happy there’s more
Thank you father for another wonderful tcg session
keep the commander games comin!
very entertaining please continue
nice comment here, i got back in to magic watching the wubby episode and love the mtg content. please make more
Does anyone know if Matt was activating the urza lands for their correct mana after getting an everything counter?
Matt wearing a omega speed master like a king
Charlie playing mtg has to be the best thing I’ve ever seen I use to play and this makes me want to again
At 1:04:55 I thought charlie was allozed to exile at insant speed upon the bug entering battlefield, so that the landfall can't happen since playing lands is sorcery speed right and cannot be added to the stack?
Correct me if I'm wrong im pretty new to magic, but I have a feeling they explained it wrong?
Matt, buddy, you GOTTA read your cards all the way man. Coulda had 14 mana from the Finale and that land only destroys lands lol
With scute swarm you can use this equation, 2 * 2 ^ n - 1 (where n is the amount of scute swarms on the battlefield when playing a land), to count the correct tokens if you have 6 or more lands.
31:33 That Ulamog's Crsuher attacks each combat, even the turn it gets played. Counts as haste, as it has to attack!
I literally had a dream about opening magic packs last night. Don't do this to me Charlie
The energy precon was so well-constructed...
Matt not realizing his moonscape sage would allow him to pick up his locus land that gains life for every locus with the everything counters to gain 5+ life a turn bugged me
Wizards better sponsor these guys because they’ve been making me want to learn magic
Didn't know Ulalek was a nonbasic land. Neat.
Everyone makes mistakes and misses stuff, it’s inevitable and ultimately doesn’t matter. But I can’t believe nobody caught the Volatile fault destroying Charlie’s commander 😂
Yeah 40 min and there has been 8 something missed energy and Ryan should have lost 9 life but edh is all for fun but it’s just funny to notice
Not untapping the five lands after finale of revelation broke my heart
Great video. Does anyone know what app they are using on the iPad?
I love the jyoti full art. Like he's supposed to be looking left but he has no face
I CANNOT! Farewell is my favorite card as a monowhite lover
Charlie getting better since last video
The card you find off of amped raptor must be cast immediately or not at all.
Seems like this could have been mic’d significantly better. But love the content
10:23 that smile from charile 😂
thanks for more magic content papa moist
There were so many mistakes in this game, which is understandable since charlie and matt are relatively new to the game (especially matt) and i noticed them mostly on their turns, but the biggest one imo is that mirage mirror doesn't have summoning sickness, so he could have swung with everything and (probably) won (couldn't be bothered to actually do the math since charlie could stop one from attacking).
Still a very fun game though! I'm excited to see more and see the mistakes become less and less frequent as they gain more experience. It's always a good time to see people learn a game you enjoy yourself.
This is incorrect, mirage mirror does have summoning sickness, here's the ruling on gatherer:
If Mirage Mirror becomes a creature the same turn it enters the battlefield, you can't attack with it or use any of its Tap abilities (if it gains any) unless it has haste.
@@Jerfo42Gaming I love when people randomly 'correct' people when they're wrong lol.
Yeah everything has summoning sickness the turn they come in because you can animate lands/enchantments/artifacts even planeswalkers can swing with that one sword.
@@Jerfo42Gaminghey lol
CHARLIESLAND PILE LOOKS LIKE A KID RUNNING UP AND DOWN STAIRS HOLDING SCISSORS
all thats left is that charlie gets addicted to the Warhammer 40k universe and he becomes our chaos god with a white shirt
If they had to cast Matt in the movie version of this commander game, it would have to be Owen Wilson
Im loving this
