You should make a video about Wattleup, between Rockingham Road and the rail line, used to be a suburb, but was demolished between ~1997 and 2014 as part of a plan to redevelop into light industrial. However, it never happened, so there's just a few empty roads with the remains of driveways and a school, and even power lines, just left otherwise in an empty piece of land. Went there once, and it was really weird. Apparently some of the people kicked out weren't even fully reimbursed! Love your videos!
Funny you say that, I was there months ago and filmed a bunch of b-roll. I haven't done anything with it yet since it's still an active topic. That wouldn't usually be an issue, but I reached out to some former residents via a Facebook group and some seemed a bit upset by the idea. It's still fresh for a lot of ex-residents, so there's a bit of emotion being thrown around. Still, never say never. It's a situation I'm monitoring closely.
There’s an abandoned house there you can still enter (probably private property but it’s right there and I’ve always been interested about the history of the area). It’s such an interesting story that’s not even popular among people in Perth. Such a shame though seeing a once thriving suburb just become empty roads
When I went to school in Shackleton, 1969-1971 the school had 2 classrooms. Occasionally we would be given money to buy a pie for lunch. The bakery had the post office at the side, and the coop was further down the road toward the memorial hall where we had ballet classes. The CWA hall had play equipment in the front yard. I wasn't sure what you meant talking about the place the railway wanted to establish a water pipe. Kwolyn is pronounced correctly the third time you said it. I think it is named for the native creature (Kwoll)
It really doesn't take tong to see many towns that haven't changed in many years. I sometimes go out to Trayning and theres some interesting finds out there. Great video mate and your channel has blown up fast.
Did you check out the museum in the town hall/ Cinema...it's well worth it (You get the key from the shop). Also I'm responsible for breaking one of the window pains a few years back hoisting my GF to look through the side window...I made a donation but it looks like they haven't gotten around to fixing it.... Can't rush these things!
Husband and I have been in WA since the 80s but always lived in the Goldfields or down south. We've started doing little trips to check out the places you mention. Shackleton will definitely be on the list! There's a heritage trail out of Norseman; you might enjoy the Lady Mary mine and townsite, and the Break O'Day cricket pitch.
Have you been over to Narrogin? They have a district high school atop a hill that students taking the bus or walking to have to climb up every single day. It’s certainly one way to get your cardio in
The only town starting with x is in wa near dally (thats what the locals call Dalwallinu my cousins live near there hence I use the local term) its not really a town but a region I presume it was a town at some stage . Lots of towns that way that are now just info boards like Maya, and Bunjil. latham, wubin and Buntine are but more but schools are closed
Yeew! always a treat seeing your videos. Interesting to hear how you pronounced Kwolin. I always said it with a Q. Did you learn that from somewhere how to pronounce it or just adopt it how you think it would sound like I did?
I did a project on the pipeline and CY O’Connor in primary school. I remember Mum and Dad taking me to the Mundaring Weir and pumping station to get photos and do research. It’s very interesting.
@@brendansodyssey Don't forget Karragullen just over the road, huge history in the orchards and beautiful scenery. Also the abandoned refactory and Kaolin mine at Clackline on the way to Northam, some spectacular shots to be had there.
And a Minivale is a base for the wheatbelt heritage rail group. Might be worth contacting them to see if you can have a look around. Not sure if theres much going on there atm though. I think the old AB diesel is hired out to Watco for worktrains . But rumor has it theres some other stuff in the old cbh shed. Apart from the old DBZ Locos parked up there.
@@brendansodyssey love your mining town videos as im currently working on a mine as a surveyor in WA, i noticed you must be a surveyor yourself with some of your websites and terminology used!
Be cool to see you do some albany videos. Technically being the first colonial settlement in wa and the history with WW1 i think it would have alot to offer! Be cool to see what you find
Good to know I'm not the only 90s kid from Perth interested in the history of our state. Keep up the excellent work mate 🤙
Good on you mate. I don't there many. WA is extremely boring and irrelevant.
You make great videos, keep it up mate, love hearing about WA history as it isn't really taught anywhere else
Ironic that Bankwest have now closed all their branches, so it being closed is just foretelling.
Bankwest are fkn jokers
not quite yet... they're in the main closing in September/October 2024
A very cool little building that I saw in your other video.
Best 3 bucks a month Ive ever spent. Lol.

I thought it was due to the area being contaminated with chemicals, but I could be wrong.
Also I think there's a liquor store that's still there.
@@jonathandenton6160 The Ten Mile Tavern. Seedy as hell.

Near Nannup/Barragup Pool camp grounds has some interesting 'old stuff/ river crossings' ...would make for a very interesting future story
For some reason I have never got round to making a video about Shakleton despite going there at least three times, maybe more.
Never too late! I don't think it's going anywhere
Cool video. There is so much history just waiting to be discovered in the wheatbelt :)
Id love to see you do a video on The Old Picton Church in Bunbury :)
Awesome work Brendan!
Love these little towns. Might have to put this one on our "drive in the country" list. 😊
Dude, I get excited for your videos. Brilliant work. How do you even come up with this stuff?
Waaaay too many internet rabbit holes in the early hours of the morning. I'm glad years of that are finally paying off for something
Normally we brag about having the biggest things in Australia. Great video!

I didn't get a chance, unfortunately. We were on a bit of a tight filming schedule
Yep, the same keys allow access to the bank too

I think I’ve already suggested this, but could you make a video on how Perth’s last diesel trains were sold to Auckland in New Zealand?
You should make a video of the evaluation of Perth station. There's some interesting stuff about it
Have you looked at the RAAF bunkers out in yanchep?

At the Koppio Smithy Museum there's the Bank of Adelaide building which I suspect is competitive in size of the world's smallest bank
Gotta do the Barracks on Rotto. South end of Thompson Bay. walked around there on Saturday night, plenty of ruins and even old train tracks...
Yeew! always a treat seeing your videos.

I just copied how the speech to text in Word said it haha
You can get the key for the bank in a lock box in the hall next door. We went in both the Hall and the bank.
quickly becoming one of my fav subscribed to channels!
Good vid man. Should come down to Rockingham to do a vid on the Rockingham hotel and some of the heritage listed buildings in East Rocko
Come for a trip to the Katanning area. Plenty of interesting history down this way!
oooh long video on the CYOconner pipe I hope!
RIP
Plenty of footage to use so far... on the Kalgoorlie side, at least. Mundaring footage is much more accessible and will be filmed soon.

Please do a video on red hill quarry! Love the videos man
I took some photos there once! www.brendansodyssey.com/urban-exploration/blog-post-title-three-drk3g

Love your content , keep it up
visited shackleton while going through for work, should have walked around more i guess
Feel like it's an obvious one, but how about Kings Park tunnel(s?), I also believe there's a tunnel or a few tunnels under the Perth CBD
Awesome video. Lee must be a great guy. 😉
With great video suggestions!
Oooh you could do the teeny tiny church in Australind.
going on a memory from long ago, walhalla may claimed to have the world's or australia's or victoria's smallest bank.
Would you be able to do a video on the history of Roleystone? It’s my home town and I thought it would be a very interesting video to make :)
I'll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Its the only bank where you can take the keys from the town hall key box and go inside for a look, and no, there is no money 😢

Should of come north to Keller Bren and had a cuppa…
