I can honestly say that Your Whitney video is what convinced me to do the JMT next year. I was originally inspired while watching a filthy, shirtless, short-short wearing JMT hiker huffing down Whitney portal. I thought, “I wanna do that”! 30 years later, I’m doing it. I’ll watch, listen to or read anything you put out there. You’ve got something special in you!
Not one of the best but THE BEST volgs and overall compilation not only of the PCT but of you and how you’ve grown and remolded over the days and months of your journey! Anyone who knows you personally must be so proud and for us that have only this small connection are super honored to have been able to be a part! Best always and look forward to that book one of these days and watching wherever your feet and heart next take you! 💪🏼👍🏻😀
Thank you so much Kathy.. Again, your support and kind words of encouragement on what seems like every video I put out there are truly a blessing.. I think you've been with me from the beginning and i cannot express how much that means to me. If i ever get that book on the shelves, I will make sure you get a few personal copies directly from me. Until the CDT..
Dude, this was sooooo gooooooood. I head out in a little over a month, and this just totally erased some of the doubts I've been feeling today, so thank you.
I just finished hiking the PCT and had to come back to rewatch this video. Your style of editing and storytelling captures the emotions trail in a way that most other PCT videos fail to do so. After hiking, I realized how hard it is to depict a 5-month journey only a few minutes, but you somehow found a way do that. I've tried making videos myself, and yours is now an inspiration for future videos of mine. Congrats for making one of the best PCT montages on youtube!!!
I have truly missed watching your amazing PCT videos. One of the best Vlogs out there imho. I also love that you're majoring in Forestry. Sounds like a perfect fit. :)
just coz i'm not sure my knee would handle that long of a trail and also coz i'm on a straight diet and that i'm almost sure i can't make it without having trouble with my intestine and stomach, but i have to say, that your vidéo is very nice and great to watch, full of emotion and give tons of inspirations for going outdoors ! (music might be a bit too loud but overall, one of the best "pct highlights" vidéo i've seen so far !) Great job ! Keep up the good work ! Cheers from Belgium !
Nice ending to your PCT! And as I had said last year after going back and viewing the start of your PCT, you have certainly matured through your adventures! AWESOME JOB!
You have grown ....From that lil high school kid on the start of the AT ....I really never thought u finish it when you frist started....But more I watch ur vlogs the more I was cheering for you...Was so so amazed how much you change then you finished....I knew you had the hiking in ur blood and you be walking again ....Then to watch your journey threw PCT remarkable ....Most your age can live there whole life and never get to experience what you have in a couple short years....I am so thankful you let us follow you living your dream....Super proud of you....
Thanks for the support! I am really enjoying it so far! Unfortunately, I will have to wait a while before the next adventure.. I was selected for an internship this summer with the MS Forestry Commission, which will take up my entire summer.. In my forest protection class, we've have performed several prescribed burns, giving me a small taste.. I cannot wait to get out west to join a wild land crew..
Wow...that was just awesome!! I really enjoyed following your journey last year, and this video summed it up so well. I'll be heading out on my own PCT journey in May, and I'm so looking forward to the transformation you talked about!
Very powerful video! I have been sick the past few days stuck inside and came across your channel. Loved this recap and the emotion you captured. Thank you for sharing with the backpacking community and I sincerely hope we cross paths on the trail someday! Come back to Desolation Wilderness & Tahoe! Oh yea and congratulations on completing both the AT & PCT.. your a machine.
just started my attempted thru hike on saturday march 17th! currently in mt laguna, your videos were a huge inspiration. now i just hope i dont run out of money!
Totally agree 1000%!!! These were the highlight of my day every time a new video was posted. It felt as if we were there with you Mitch. I wonder how you are as a person now Mitch, after such a journey? How were you able to return to everyday life after such an adventure?
OMG!! I leave for the PCT in less than a week, and your video brought every emotion into play. The pride I felt for you when you were running to the last monument brought tears of joy the first time and did the same this time. I am so Freakin Proud of you, and I am only a UA-cam follower. You are the same age as my kids. Way to go, way to inspire! Thanks Dutch. Whats the camera btw?
Thank you so much for the support and input. Sorry I am getting back to you so late, are you on the trail already? How are you liking it so far? Enjoy it! I used the Sony RX100iii
Incredible video buddy!! Really had me in my feels..it was awesome hiking with you...you’re videos are top notch and from the soul...a lot different than most...you paint an incredible picture with your words and imagery. Hope all is well brother!!
Thanks Nacho, You're the man! It was a pleasure hiking with you through the desert man. Such awesome times with an awesome group of guys. Thanks for the support on my videos. That really means a lot. Hope you are well.
Thank you for putting this together Dutch, as someone who lives in San Diego and hikes on the PCT and is planning his thru hike next year in 2019, your videos truly inspired me. I have my own channel and have over 70 videos, mostly of the PCT. I will show this video to my 21 yearold son to not only show how amazing of a young man you are, but I think it clearly shows and explains to others why anyone (Me)nwould ever embark on this kind of journey. Thanks again and please put out a few more videos including your plans for the CDT. Cheers...
I'm very well. Heading out from Crazy Cook on May 5th, so I'll have tons of posts as I make my way up the Divide, hopefully with plenty of insights to share.
Probably just instagram posts, though I'll try to do story videos. I don't think I have the patience or skill to make videos even remotely close to adequate.
Mitch, if you think you will not be missed on the trails this year, you would surely be mistaken. There's a super nice guy - with of course his own style - goes by the name Jay Wanders Out with excellent photography skills. You might want to take a peek at his videos if you haven't already. I'm sure you will appreciate how much work he puts into it like you do. Hope to see you on the CDT one day... As for me, I've lightened up my gear and wonder if I will be able to get enough training, speed and experience to make the PCT possible for me within the next few years... We'll see.
Things are going pretty darn good. I went back to my old job and this year I'll be saving $$$! I still have my sights set on the CDT next year. I might take you up and it would be a good excuse for a road trip. I'm going up to Maine to see Fresh this weekend. How's everything going?
Good to hear man.. It's all about saving that money eh? Man I can't tell you how badly I want school to work out for me so that I can hike the CDT next year.. Have to have some more people enroll in a summer course I need to graduate in three semesters instead of four.. Let me know if you know anyone who wants to take a intro to forestry class online lol! Ive been wanting to get back up to Maine.. It is such a beautiful state! Things are going well here. School is great and I found a good paying job to align with my schoolwork. Honored to receive an internship with the MS Forestry Commission this summer making good money there too. Text or call me whenever man..
Thank you that means a lot coming from you I hope I make it is far as you did You made amazing videos and I loved following you each and every day on your adventure
Pretty bad ass video compilation..you did the whole thing..minus the closures of course..hell of a year for the trail and hell of an accomplishment man..
Whoa is this Yukon from Kanab? How are you man!! Ive been trying to contact you! I am literally sitting in a classroom at JCJC right now! I remember you talking highly about the forestry program here and now I'm enrolled! Was Jeff Keeton your Advisor and/or Teacher?
Yes sir. He and Dr. Mitchell were my instructors. I have been on campus twice in the last month or so (my cousin is on the baseball team, and I took Casey to the bookstore when she was visiting a couple of weeks ago). I would have kept an eye out for you had i known you were there. I kind of hate that you don't get a chance to take Dr. Mitchell, but he's off farming his mushrooms. He was very good with GIS, mapping, and everything that was tech centered. Are you taking summer school?
That is so cool! Small world huh? Keeton is great, I'm really enjoying the program so far. Taking Measurement and Protection now. I think silviculture and maybe GIS next semester. Trying to work something out this semester to take "Intro and Dendrology" this summer so I don't have to stay for a fourth semester.. Really crossing my fingers on that one.. Need 8 more people to sign up for an online hybrid course for both classes, including 5 labs in the summer. Know anyone? If you are close by, we should meet up for lunch some time if you are free. Really good to hear from you man! Find me on Facebook and message me your number so we don't have to communicate through youtube.
Dutch your videos were truly amazing to watch. Loved tuning in to your journey. I wish you all the best in the future man! & dont forget to Vlog your eventual CDT thru ;)
Thanks! Go for it, you won't regret it! Skittle has been wandering on his own for a while finding his own path in life. Go check out his Instagram @jacobmdowning
Thanks Anita! It took me long enough.. Putting myself through this forestry program at a local community college. Missing it more each day but trying to stay patient. I try NOT to research the CDT on my down time.. Whoops..
Haha, well I would be just one of many who would be disappointed if you never did the CDT! Glad you’re in school for something that seems to suit you well though. Can’t hike ALL the time!
MITCH LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, you really need to do the CDT and give us some more trail vibes! I only followed you and Jessica Mills on the PCT last year and it would be awesome to see you out there again..... what if someone started a crowdfund page to help you out? Would that bring you out of retirement????
Sorry I've gone dark for a while.. It seems it will be that way for another year or so, hopefully no more than that. If all goes well with school and I am able to take some summer courses this year then I should be able to hike the CDT southbound next year.. I appreciate the support and with the time I am taking off, I should have enough money for the hike. Maybe id set up a go fund me or patreon.. who knows
Cool brother, I like your videos. ... I'm just North up the 55 from you in Hernando Ms. Originally from California / Oregon. I was surprised to read or hear in one of your videos that you were from Miss. What's next on your list ..... CDT? I like your videos.
Hey Buddy, what is going on in your world? Hope all is good! Figured you would be a CDT’er this year!? It’s ok if you’re not. Just hoping fir best is in you!
Well, unfortunately, I have decided to put off the adventure for a year and put myself through college.. Hoping to build a proper foundation for the rest of my life. It was a tough decision, and I didn't know if it would be for me, but I am glad I'm here
Mitch Lenington it’s the right decision. College is a good investment and it was the best years of my life. Your hikes will provide life experiences you can draw upon for writing assignments
Thanks John. I am currently sitting out a season and putting myself through a forestry program at a local community college. The CDT should present itself in the next two years. Best wishes from Mississippi
Thank you so much for your support! Cheers

Oh my gosh! That was awesome. What an inspiration to those about to hit the trail.
Thank you! Ive got a few friends hitting the trail right now!
Dude, this was sooooo gooooooood. I head out in a little over a month, and this just totally erased some of the doubts I've been feeling today, so thank you.

Awesome stuff, Dutch! You captured the soul of the trail, again. Happy trails, brother.
Thanks Gusha! How are things for you? Really loved your AT posts. You're writing is beautiful and i'd love to read some more

Grant Leonardi so looking forward to your journey man. It'll be great to learn from you when my attempt presents itself. Making videos along the way?

Thanks! Go for it, you won't regret it! Skittle has been wandering on his own for a while finding his own path in life. Go check out his Instagram @jacobmdowning
Hope you are doing well Mitch
Awesome memories of your PCT 👍🏻👍🏻. What are you doing now?? Since life is waiting to die!!!! Enjoy life🙏🙏
My life is certainly not waiting to die.. Just putting in the work right now
I really enjoyed watching your PCT journey last year! Will we see you on trail this year?
2019 man u got me so hyyyyyped about this
Go get it!
Beautiful recap! So glad you posted this! What are you up to now, besides missing the trail? 😊
Thanks Anita! It took me long enough.. Putting myself through this forestry program at a local community college. Missing it more each day but trying to stay patient. I try NOT to research the CDT on my down time.. Whoops..

Nice enjoyed this video and following your PCT journey posts What part of Mississippi are you from ?
Thanks for the support. I am from the Jackson area
Cool brother, I like your videos. ... I'm just North up the 55 from you in Hernando Ms. Originally from California / Oregon. I was surprised to read or hear in one of your videos that you were from Miss. What's next on your list ..... CDT? I like your videos.
Would it be possible to squeeze in a post-hike gear review?
Man I've been so lazy about that.. Ill have to get that out there soon.. My favorite gear and what not
I went to their website. They make them here in Asheville , or Arden , which is close. I’ll have to check them out. When are you starting?
Hey Buddy, what is going on in your world? Hope all is good! Figured you would be a CDT’er this year!? It’s ok if you’re not. Just hoping fir best is in you!
Any hiking plans in the horizon?
Where are your adventures taking you this year, Dutch?
Well, unfortunately, I have decided to put off the adventure for a year and put myself through college.. Hoping to build a proper foundation for the rest of my life. It was a tough decision, and I didn't know if it would be for me, but I am glad I'm here
Mitch Lenington it’s the right decision. College is a good investment and it was the best years of my life. Your hikes will provide life experiences you can draw upon for writing assignments
22 more days until i leave for campo *sniff* so close i can smell it
Awesome! Enjoy it!
So whats up now Dutch? Fill us in man, hope you are well. Peace, Wheelchair John in Idaho :)
Thanks John. I am currently sitting out a season and putting myself through a forestry program at a local community college. The CDT should present itself in the next two years. Best wishes from Mississippi
What is the brand of your tent? Did you like it?
I have used the LightHeart Gear SoLong 6 for both of my thru hikes and it has served me extremely well. It's a great tent that is pretty lightweight
It seems like a lot of the ultra light tents are not durable and frequently compromised. Surviving two through hikes is an amazing testament!
What song was used?
"Everything" by The City of Sun
How’s Mitch doing?
👍
Thanks!
Is the CDT in the cards for you?
Absolutely. Just have to finish school..
CDT this year or are you waiting a while?
Forcing myself to wait a year or two so that I can finish school
