Awesome! Glad you are on again. I’m not doing any blasting right now, but may in the future. Good to know the coal slag works great and is cheap! And, when you’re done, instant landscaping highlights!

Try 10x if you blast in a cabinet.

Just remember that any media you use that peens(textures) the metal will warp the metal. This goes for dry or wet blasting. Sometimes it’s not noticeable but when you block sand with a guide coat you will see it. The best way to lessen the warpage is to have your nozzle at an angle around 45*, ideal pressure around 120psi and keep the nozzle moving! Dont stop in one spot.

Just got a husky 60 gallon compressor. How well does it perform when sandblasting? Amount of time you can sandblast without the compressor on and the amount of total time you can sandblast until inefficient air supply?
    Thanks

What's your cfm on your compressor?

Wow I jumped out of my seat and hit the ceiling seeing you make another vid hey question What are you setting your air compressor tank at and what’s a average working pressure you use when sand blasting I am new too on this sand blasting air compressor is 50gals and it’s set at 125 ish and at blaster working pressure 90

Pressures don't matter so much as cfm does. If you blast with a pot blaster I wouldn't go below 15-16cfm

Glass beads are not suitable for this application. They are designed to produce smooth surfaces and should not be used to prep for coating. One needs some surface profile (surface roughness) to produce good paint adhesion. Crushed glass, a sharp angular abrasive, would have been much better. Much less messy, less dust than coal slag. Garnet is another excellent abrasive. It is both harder and denser than coal slag so it will clean surfaces more quickly than either slag or crushed glass.

I enjoy your videos. Would it be better to just DA sand the bug to bare metal? What type of primer are you using?

Good call out. I'm actually not blasting everything. This was just for an example. I'm using a sander but not a DA. I'm using a rotary sander. It's MUCH faster, and there are ways to do it and not mess up the metal. Good question!

The primer was just rustoleum. This is not the printer I'll be using to paint. It was only for an example. I'll be sanding it shortly

Wanted to share with you if ever had to deal with multiple layers of paint i call my bug 50 shades of blue. Had been more blues in a crayon box and the hood every color of the rainbow air stripper did worst but sand blasting and sanding did the tuff spots that’s why I asked how you ran your blaster still working it out

Ah. Yes, I've had multiple layers of paint. This bug had 6 layers of paint. The best thing I've found is to use a sander. I don't use a D.A. sander though. I use a dewalt sander. It looks like a heavy duty drill that has a sanding disc from a D.A. sander on it.

I went and got mine in Tractor Supply before I even saw your video. I wasn't that impressed by Harbor Freight's glass beads (I see that's what you have). I like the Harbor Freight hopper gun though. I have tried blasting with sugar and that was very abrasive. It made my hopper unusable though because I could never get it unsticky again.

You rock I have never heard of blasting with sugar. I may try it in my old blaster. Do you have a chiller? If not that may be the reason your sugar got wet and hardened. We use 10x to blast now at our shop.

@@GMPC it was because the Blaster was covered in powdered sugar and moisture got to it. I suppose if I’d dismantled and washed it in warm soapy water that might have restored it.

To clarify, my tank is at around 135ish and is reduced to 50 at the sandblaster. I find if I turn it up, the compressor has to work way harder and it's not all that much faster
