As much as you hate doing scenery it looks great! Keep up the great work. Take your time.... sometimes walking away for a while is a good thing. Motivation will come Happy Holidays 😊😊
This video hit in the modeling soul, LOL! Chasing trackwork issues sucks and then the fix is usually painful and seems to drag on forever. But, I railroad like you do - i want to watch my trains go by so when trackwork doesn't work, i tinker with it until it does and it annoys the hell out of me. and almost every time i get in a funk and don't want to work on it. when i'm in the train room, i usually just set the trains to run while i work on other stuff but there's enough industries around that if i want to take the throttle and mess with some switching I can do that, too. these guys that model exact trains and exact places are hardcore and some of their railroads really look awesome - but that's taking it just a bit to hard to the paint for me. i want me scenes to look good, my trains to look good, and i want flawless operation. the train gets to the industry when it gets there - last thing i need is one more schedule to keep! And yes, that woodland scenics roadbed is crap. unless you're building a small layout on a plywood tabletop - i wouldn't recommend it. i prefer cork if i'm using flextrack and not Unitrack. Fun to see the simulator though. I had Microsoft's version back when it came out and had a lot of fun with it.
Great update Steve, upgraded curves to run the 89 foot cars will be worth the effort and time you put into it!! I definitely miss my Conrail layout I had before the move 9 years ago but watching you and Tim Garland along with Daryl Kruse has got me itching to run trains again, I did aquire 2 Kato N Scale SD40-2S to restart my fleet, so every chance I get when not in the Semi will be used to collect equipment!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍
Thank you! I cant wait to be able to run the longer cars and enjoy them, hopefully by the end of January. Keep pickup up a car or locomotive here and there and ull have an awesome fleet when you can build a layout again!
A suggestion for you. If you haven't already done so, you could change the turnout into the yard that you mention at around 6:00 from a left to a right. It would give you a better angle to the cross over and it helps to begin the curve. It also prevents the "s" curve for trains coming out of the curve and going through the cross-over.
Thank you for suggesting this! I did swap that turnout out as you mentioned and it has a much better angle. Its crazy the things that are right in front of us like that that get missed.
I thought I was the king of falling out of the mood? For about 5 years now I've been like that and even thought of giving it up. Odd thing about about it, it will strike you out of nowhere and WHAM, your in the mood ! Don't get it ? Been finding out that many people go threw that. So hang in there and enjoy the moment when the mood comes back.
I agree with you on the foam roadbed. But as more I worked with it helping Ed it’s not bad. I thought about switch over to all foam roadbed but with all the cork I’ve bought already I’d never get money back out of it if I sold it. I’ll just use the foam for my upper level and cement branch and the cork on the lower. I did find a company that custom cuts solid cork sheets. I think I’ll use that since my yard is 38-39’ X30” and also use it in the engine shop area. Just liquid nail it to the plywood.
RUN8 I play that, the Helper service is GOLDEN in that sim which is True to Life made by Real Life Railroaders. Note Run8 has a massive learning curve to learn with buttons and commands, everything from Real working Hump Yards to Car Markers to in cab Radio Coms. Route Maps are Large in scale like the Tehachapi Pass & Cajon Pass which runs from Bakersfield to Barstow to San Bernardino yard. Base game comes with a lot of Freight cars and hand full of modern diesel locomotives, yes there is Am-Trash if you want to run Passenger trains but that's it as the Sim is made for Freight. Everything works in all the Cabs of the locomotives and the Sim has Multiplayer so everyone can play a part with-in the Sim.
Howdy fellow Steve! Thanks for the update. It is OK to take a break for a while to get re-energized. Don't want to get soured to the hobby! How close to Columbus are you? Stopping by the train show in Columbus next Saturday (DEC 7th)? Thanks for sharing 🤠
Hey Steve nice variation in the video. I've seen videos of that simulator and it does look interesting. I use that Woodland Scenics roadbed and my trains run smoothly and I model in O Scale. I guess it all depends on what you want your end result to be and prefer. Also, being in a "slump" is part of the hobby. No need to apologize. We all go through it a various levels. Sometimes my motivation is watching videos on UA-cam. Sometimes we are at our most creative after some time off.
Thank you! If you even feel the itch to try out Run 8 it is really a great simulator and I enjoy it alot! My grip with the foam roadbed has more to do with it being alot more flexable than the cork and not giving me as much of a firm base as I would like. Hopefully I may finally be past my slump and back to normal here in the next few weeks. I really have missed editing and putting together videos for everyone recently.
Yeah I have Tsunami 2 in 5 or 6 N scale locomotives with different speaker combinations. They sound OK and I may adjust the crossovers later on. The ESU sound excellent with the right speaker combination. I tried a few different set ups in different locomotives. The amplifier they use is just superior as with my experiments.
@ConrailSteve yep will do as I just got the decals yesterday and I have 3 more car's to build and have to turn on the heater in my hobby room so I can get them painted
Don't expect much difference in the sound, as the Athearn speakers are pretty good and there are two of them instead of just one in the SSS enclosure. My two Athearn dash nines both have the original dual cube speakers and sound much better than the wimpy ESU sounds in my Scale trains dash nines. The only downside is the ESU K5LA sounds better but is very weak in terms of volume.
Hi Steve! Thanks for sharing this with us! Have a great day!

That loco roster is absolutely filthy.....and I love it!!!
Thank you! Thats the way everything looked back in 98-99 in my area!

Wow, amazing bunch of work... Can you post if the foam roadbed is any quieter? Great Video...

How many engines do you have to run on your layout? Engines are my favorite ! Then coal cars!
Hi CR Steve & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks CR Steve & Friends Randy
Thank you Randy!!!

Ive always thought that Tsunami's 7FDL16 has sucked. ESU's is absolutely amazing
I've been working on more of my welded rail train and have the decals coming in soon
Be sure to post you Welded Rail train on the Conrail Modelers group when you get it down. Always enjoy seeing others work on there!
