    You don't need a morning coffee, or any form of caffeine if you own a Viper. The moment you start driving, they wake you the F up and make you pay attention. I think I would recommend a Viper to anyone that likes to take risks and be on the edge. big NA torque is such a different experience to forced induction torque though. People who supercharge or turbo their Viper must be nuts 😂

      As a gen3 viper owner (with only 500hp) I can agree with this statement. The gen5 like the one in this video has an additional 140hp, and I know from experience that you can feel every single one of those ponies.

    The viper never gets old because it is a classic hot rod formula. Take the biggest naturally aspirated engine you got and send it to the widest rear tires you got with the heaviest duty manual transmission. Side pipes should be standard on all performance cars for that stereo rumble exhaust sound. You cannot argue with the track times. This is the kind of car that takes your whole life to master.

    It doesn't have a truck engine. The truck engine was derived from that. The Viper V10 was developed in concert with Lamborghini...

    OMG. I REALLY enjoy this video. What a beast and you were man enough to share that it was too much for you on those roads. I used to crave one since I was a kid and back in 2014 test drove one - it's like meeting your hero and realizing it was cool in concept but not someone you want to hang out with. We will never see a car like this again.

    It isn't and never was a truck engine! The only thing a Viper v10 has in common with the old iron magnum truck engine is bore centers.

    • @nicholaspirnia7809
      @nicholaspirnia7809 3 місяці тому

      So true! The Magnum engine was actually inspired by the Viper engine - not the other way around like so many think. Dodge hoped to have a common assembly line, but once R&D on the truck engine was complete the two engines didn't share a single component.

    They added a huge wing to the later Viper ACR That added so much down force at speed that rear traction improved at the limit so the Viper ACR set production car lap time records at tracks all over united states

    • @fastec5
      @fastec5 2 роки тому +12

      The wing was also 1776 millimeters if I remember right, and it also created so much downforce you couldn't put it on an open trailer or else it would pick the front of the trailer/back of the truck up on the interstate

    To reassure some big boys. I’m 6’1 198lbs size 12 and have had the pleasure to drive a gen 5 I can say I fit well. I didn’t push it to any standard or even attempt heel or toe but I can say I didn’t feel too big for it. God is this a scary car
    Edit: also to note I was wearing a helmet so I’m pretty confident 6’1-6’4 you are still fitting 💪

    • @Mike-qq8iy
      @Mike-qq8iy Рік тому +1

      I’m 6’2” 220 and sat in one recently and didn’t fit at all.
      I think there was almost enough room for my head but it didn’t matter because the top of the windshield was so much lower so I couldn’t see out of it at all. Had to hunch over a lot and lean the seat back more than I’d like to drive it.
      But they do make a kit to lower the seat 2-2.5” which I think would be enough for me.
      A bucket seat should improve that even more.

      @@Mike-qq8iy I drove in the SRT if that makes a difference and I am 198 lean to bear in mind. But yeah I’m unsure how the difference would be so drastic over an inch apart from our torso/leg length differences. Anyone over 6 foot defo needs to try before you buy I guess 💀

    My lord….you’ve been playing too many video games. The Gen 5 is the best shifting 6 speed trans this 55 year old has driven…period. My Viper has an unbelievable amount of mechanical traction as long as the road is dry and above 65 degrees. I never burnt my legs on the “hot” exhaust. The Gen 5 is a true analog beast that does what you tell it to do.

  • @nicholaspirnia7809
    @nicholaspirnia7809 3 місяці тому

    The driver seat can actually go lower on the 2013s if you remove a set of metal/plastic bushings from under the seat that limit travel. This adds another 1.5" of head room. I'm not sure why SRT fitted these, but they were removed on the 2014 and later cars. I've owned a 2013 and 2015, the headroom and outward visibility is markedly better on later cars or 2013s with these bushings removed.
    Also, the original Pirelli Corsa's are a better tire for the Viper than the Cup 2s that you drove. The Cup2s are not truly available for the Gen V and the rears are downsized while the front tires were intended as rear tires for another vehicle. There was a thread about these circa 2017 on the VOA forum and owners found that these mismatched Cup2s were a step backwards in performance compared to stock Corsa's. It's a great example of how there is more to tire performance than compound and size. The PS4S is now available for the Gen V in the correct sizes with Viper specific tread patterns. It is a much better choice than Cup2s now that Corsa's are out of production. I hear that the PS4S aren't any grippier in the dry, but are more dependable over a wider range of conditions. The Cross's also had a 50 treadwear rating, much of the recent improvement in tire performance is offering these kind grip levels with a much higher treadwear rating. My 2015 hooks up very well in the dry on Cora's and you really can use the lower gears even on a tight road like HWY1 near Stinson - lots of first gear corners on that road. :)

    2 vents is the “GTS hood”, however, one could option the GTS cars with the much better looking 6 vent hood too. So, it’s definitely not a fool proof way of telling if you’re looking at a SRT vs GTS.
    My Viper is a 2015 DODGE (not SRT 😉) GTS with every single factory option. The 15+ cars are generally more sought after, less issues, after performance via larger throttle bodies, better oil breather, just all around had the kinks worked out.

    Its weird this car. I drove the 3rd gen Viper and the engine was strangely one of the least memorable parts of the experience. For me the best parts were the shifter feel (like loading a shotgun), the seating position/where you are sat in relation to the car and how On/Off switch like the engine felt (probably a terrible throttle calibration). The C6 Z06 I drove that same night felt far superior as a driving tool.

You drove the car wrong, you snap on and off the gas, the car needs just a bit of gas to keep the rear end locked up to preform right. Car is amazing once you understand its soul.

    Crazy that it only makes 20 more horsepower with 8.4 liters, than an R8 with 5.2 liters. Imagine if that engine was making over 100hp per liter! This one is def a step up from the all plastic ones from the early 2000's. If Dodge gave this car the C8 treatment, meaning mid engine, get rid of the plastic, and a 9000 rpm V10. OMG.
