For Erin, who likes the 95/5 mash bill, George Dickel Tennessee rye. MGP Rye like Bullet, but ran through the Cold Charcoal filtering to get the Tennessee moniker.

I'm starting to experiment with rye. I know I like Knob Creek rye, but I understand that's a barely legal rye. I've now tried Bulleit and Sagamore Spirit rye, and they're definitely not bourbon. I find both to be very vegetal and mineral, with a distinct salt note in the Bulleit. I plan to also try Sazerac and Rittenhouse. But I'm looking forward to y'all's list. 🙂
5:04 I know exactly what Erin means. The sugar alters the taste of tea, so if you put sugar in, and then remove some or all of the sweetness without changing the taste, that's what she's talking about.

Getting into Rye whiskey myself. My first bottle of Rye was Sazerac and I did not enjoy it. Luckily, I found a more bourbon friendly Rye in a Sagamore single barrel store pick and it’s my go to right now. Love the Jack Daniels SBBP Rye too as well as the S&W Hard Truth Rye pick. Pikesville is on my list too. Can’t wait to get the S&W Sagamore pick!

That’s one we’ve yet to try but know a lot of folks love. We do have a couple MWND bottles and are fans of High West through those. The Double Rye and Rendezvous Rye are both on our list to snag soon.

I’ll second the HWDR being a tasty rye. They also release barrel select versions once or twice a year that are worth looking out for. I just grabbed a bottle last week that was finished in peated casks.

The OF Rye is the first rye I tried and love it. Michters Rye is good too but at twice the price of OF, I’m not sure it’s worth it. Whistlepig 10 year is amazing but a higher end. I’ll definitely be adding the rest to my list. Great video.

I love Rye Whiskey...good for you Erin! 😊 For me, it was a gateway coming from Single Malt Scotch. For my palate, more complexity than Bourbon, which I also am coming to love in its own way. I have Rittenhouse for cocktails, to not break the bank, also for sipping neat...Pikesville has also made its way into my liquor cabinet...it's currently my favorite Rye sipper, along with Frey Ranch Bottled In Bond Rye...neat also. You two make a great team...the girls know what they like and that's most important, us guys...like you Josh, I geek out on the details, which is also important, but the final decision goes to nose, taste, and finish...that's what It's all about...ya?? Thanks for this review as always!

Have tried all but the Pikesville, but I agree with the list.
Bulleit is my swiss army Rye and one I make for beginner whiskey drinkers.
Sazerac is a bit softer all around. It is my go to when I'm looking for a Rye to play a supporting role.
Forrester has a fun chocolate taste that brings a fun evolution to many cocktails.
Rittenhouse is my stronger choice in heavier cocktails where the other Rye would otherwise get muddled (whiskey sours/boulevardier).

All great choices. I was gifted a 100%, 100 proof rye that I’ve yet to try. If I like it, I was thinking Rittenhouse or Old Forester as the next one. I tend to like higher rye mash bill bourbons, so it may be a logical next step.

Bulleit 95 Rye, or another MGP 95/5 sourced rye, is a perfect choice for this list. Personally, I prefer the TinCup Rye, but anything from that popular source distillery is a good starting point for rye.

Y’all are SO lucky. Pikesville Rye hasn’t been found in my area in 3 years. Great you can get it. All these picks are solid. Believe it or not I found a good beginner budget Rye was the Jack Daniels. It had a nice rye bread dill note. Also check out Lot 40 Rye. In my area they’re $30.

My first rye I owned was Catoctin Creek Distiller's Edition (92 Proof). I recently purchased their Stout cask after trying it at a bar and can't wait to open it up (I'm waiting to finish another bottle before I open up anything else). I love Sagamore Spirit ryes - I have a few. Rittenhouse is the one I can find at my local pub, so I have that once in a while. I've enjoyed exploring more and more of the ryes available in London along with bourbons.

Love the Pikesville Rye, but as a huge high proof bourbon lover, the Rye that is like a siren calling to me in the night, is Alberta Premium Cask Strength (Batch 2). At 66%, it's fruity notes with some spicy finish is the first Rye that made me sit up and take notice, to which I then had to branch out and try some others.

That’s such a tough one! We’ve been lucky enough to have very generous friends let us sample some awesome things.
For Erin, with a preference for lower proof, Sazerac 18 takes the cake. For Josh, there was a higher aged single barrel Willett rye that impressed as well as JDBP rye.
We also have some Wild Turkey Cornerstone and Kentucky Owl rye samples to get into at some point.
But for an everyday rye, Rare Breed rye is probably what we’d both call a favorite due to price and availability.

Nice list with OF and Pikesville being our favorites out of the 5. My wife and I also really enjoy WT 101 rye, Rare Breed rye, Russell’s 6 year rye (we are Turkey nuts) and Chattanooga rye if you can find it. Woodford and Elijah Craig ryes are decent. The ultimate rye we have is the Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof that came out last year. It is incredible and needless to say we only sip on it occasionally since it can’t be found any more.
