This movie came out 13 years ago. I am only now seeing it for the first time, and I have to say I absolutely love it for what it is. Yes, it's a 2010 budget film, but done with a lot of love and passion. And hell, do we ever turn down a good 40k fan movie? Not me. And this was several steps up from many of those (aside from the graphical fidelity of course). I want more!
All things considered, this was pretty good. One thing they did not get right, but very very few ever do, is the weight of a Space Marine. A couple times they had them walking on stuff that would NOT be able to support a 1000+ pound Space Marine. Hell, they had a bunch of them standing on an old, wooden bridge that looked so unstable that I would be hesitant to stand on it by myself as a regular person. Also, they wouldn't be able to move around quite as silently as they do, there's only so much that special training and equipment can do when you're running in metal boots on a metal or stone floor. But, as I said, almost nobody gets it right anyway. The only ones I can think of immediately are the Astartes series and the Spacehulk: Deathwing game.

I've been delving into 40K for about 3 or so years now and have never heard of this until today. Thank you for up loading it. The music and sound design was on point but what really impressed me was the voice actors. The story was simple, but IMHO very well executed. It derived on everything it set up which is not easy to do and was well paced. I'm just really grateful for the team behind making this. In the grim dark future of the 21st Century when we are so starved of 40K content it is quite refreshing to have something like this. It's like a pure distillation of the 40K mythos. Another shout out to the inclusion of prayers spoken by the Astartes and Tech priests. It really brings you into their world as they pray not just for ritual sake but for keeping focus and moral. It's a good detail. All in all, it's a good watch and I'm definitely coming back to this some time.
THIS WAS SOOOO FUCKING GOOD!!! I dont even play warhammer 40k I just love the lore and some of the video games. THIS WAS AMAZING! the story line was fantastic, had this great late 90s early 2000s vibe. I sank right into it and watched it all at once. SO GOOD!
So good my friend, incredible! I read so many of these comments and it hurts me to see that GW seems to only hurt its hardcore fans. This video has countless hours, this is the epitome of this Universe, a complete marvel and those involved deserve every ounce of respect. The Universe is grand and can be witnessed from many points of view, GW has gone out of their way to hurt those that attempt to put the idea to film.
This movie paved the way for a lot of what we have now. I remember when Ultramarine came out. We had very little in terms of 40K media. The best we had was a handful of Dawn of War opening cinematics, a few fan animations and live action shorts, and then THIS. The quality, variety, and amount of content is so much higher now... but this movie will always have a place in my library.
I would feel the same, but they actually charged people for this garbage. On a specific website, and they limited the number of times you were allowed to download it.
Ya know, for a 3 million dollar budget... this is really god damn good work. I seen FAR worse with FAR more of a budget. The voice acting is on point (John Hurt as a chaplain? Oh hell yes) the setting and aesthetic are PERFECT, the music was pretty badass, and... I dunno, I'm pretty happy with it.

I just realised something in this, right at the very end one of the marines saying "And we shall know no fear" is voiced by Mark Strong, who is the same voice actor as Captain Titus, so honestly, I wouldn't even say it's too far fetched to say that this is around the first time Captain Titus sees combat as a Space Marine. At least I think I heard Mark Strong amongst those voices at the end there.
I kept reading that the graphics were terrible so maybe my expectation were low, but I thought it was really well done! This is awesome I wish there were more films.
There are lots of Warhammer 40k fan films such as Helsreach and The Last Church adapted from the lore of Warhammer 40k. They're really good and probably better than this film made by Games Workshop. Strongly recommend you watching them!
It's not that bad, it's a small little story which is nice, with sprinkles of grim dark and just enough lore n info to make sure the people who know nothing aren't lost
My goodness, even the audio seems improved on this version! I'm now catching many fine details that previously escaped me, like Apothecary Pythol remarking on the fog and Captain Severus sarcastically asking if Pythol has turned into a weather expert. The fine details on the faces and armour are much more distinct now, also! That'll certainly help telling everyone apart. Also, _corposant_ is a _very_ specific idea!

Btw, the writer and screenplay was Dan Abnett. He is a frequent author of 40K books and is largely seen as one of the best, if not THE best.
Despite what folks say about the Chaos Space Marines being one note villains. I'd say we got a very good portrayal of how deadly and cunning a single Deamon can be and his character was excellent. Especially when he taunted Proteus about possessing him and using him to slaughter his fellow brothers. "Think of the glory Proteus." Followed by the awesome line from Pythol.
Sure if we squint and lie to ourselves because we all want to like this movie while we all realize it's a stinker
@@Andy_Sidaris Um, I'm not lying. I genuinely think this movie has some really good moments despite the animation and other qualms I have. 40k folks have too many sticks up their asses anyway and let things like dubstep pseudo rock music seep into the franchise.
@@dr.feelgoodmalusphillips2475 I am referring to the fact that as a direct result of this terrible movie all other movie ideas were shelved and abandoned.

I recently got into Warhammer and it's just been a rabbit hole. I'm captivated with the story and I came upon this video. This is easily one of the best things I have ever watched. The story telling and animation are spot on. If you guys had a series I guarantee you my ass would be watching it.

You'd think they would've made more by now.
Especially with that massive lore.
now mind that they even screwed a bit with the lore, even worst since the ultras are very strict about the codex astartes which they didn't followed in this movie
Me too.
I feel like this movie could've worked if the characters weren't so one-note. The idea of new Ultramarines recruits going into battle for the first time is an interesting one.

This presented itself at the most opportune moment imaginable. Pulling me deeper yet into the lore of Warhammer 40k.
I can’t believe I waited so long to start learning and experiencing the magic of the 40k universe.
I can’t wait to see what Henry Cav is able to contribute to the lore, and look forward to watching the public at large’s introduction to the lore as well.
I have a feeling that we are all gonna be lost in the goddamn warp in a few years. Stuck in that grim dark future. And living every goddamn second of it!
This video was damn good btw. Impressive. The suspense was done perfectly and I quickly forgot about the outdated graphics as the mystery and intrigue pulled me in.
Let’s freakin GO!
Playing Space Marine 2, had to revisit this kickass movie!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Still cannot believe they got John Hurt to do a part in a Warhammer 49k film. Blows my mind
In the holy name of the Emperor of Mankind, thank you, Brother Knight Trooper.
this gets a 7 out of 10 straight out of the gate just for having Sean Pertwee in it - earns another 2 because it's pretty good

I didn't think the animation was bad at all, it really suits 40k. Great movie, thanks.
Really suits 40k by being shit, 40k is a shitty place to be
As much as I enjoy this movie...I always get angry when I hear them shittalk Pythol...An Apothecary's job is second only to a Chaplain's or Chapter Master...And in some cases higher...Pythol literally must bear the burden of being sure to retrieve and maintain the Geneseed so the Chapter can live on.
Have to say, even in spite of the somewhat janky animation, the S-tier voice-acting really made it worth my time.
This video made me rewind little parts to catch every word and movement. Such a great movie for an amateur FAN of warhammer 40k. I've listened to alot of audio drama books and lures. So to have this animation that's not just gameplay clips edited.
I came here looking for some fanart and tributes about an army / a chapter I think about to begin. Now I go with a blessed heart knowing the emperor protects. Thank you so much for this masterpiece.
Being a longtime D&D geek, I was blown away by this movie. This movie has gotten me convinced to start playing Warhammer! So much better than any preconceived ideas I had about this concept. I have to find out if they made any other movies, because this can’t be it.
I got into war hammer 4 months ago and it's great good luck.😀😀
I wish this could be remastered this would be a sweet movie.
na fam, I wish there is a sequel
@@Knight_Trooper Why not both? Remaster the movie to hype a sequel. Give the animation a polish, give the marines a sense of weight and heft and the weapons more punch. Then have the Sequel follow the mission of Protieus and his squad of ultramarines on their mission.

What do you mean "re-mastered"? That doesn't make sense. This is of as higher quality as it can be. It's already hi-def. I don't think you know what the words you say actually mean.
I wish it was a better chapter, what I wouldn't give to see the Wolves of Fenris have their own film.
Genuinely better than handfuls of proper movies released in theaters, amazing. Certainly didn’t hurt to have such an excellent voice cast.
incredible movie and pace- a triumph in all respects. PLEASE make more
This feels clunky like Legos but it's amazing for the budget and the technology available at the time. The buildup of suspense was very well done because the entire time I was wondering what was beyond all the smoke and the clouds in the storm a few things felt predictable but for the most part definitely caught me off-guard I'm just recently getting into the entire lore and backstory of 40K thank you a decade later for making this.
Budget: Yes. It was a shoestring budget and most went to the Great voice actors.
Technology: No. We are talking 2008 not 1990. It looks like stuff from 90s CGI.
@@gafrers Reminded of a HD remaster of those starship trooper animations from the late 90s

The technology at the time? Hahaha you're a little off on that. There were incredible 3d animations back then
@@RJBynon times change and it's just a crazy thing to witness I was around for the beginning of UA-cam I used to have a 3.2 megapixel camera very low quality compared to nowadays but it was like best for a budget back then, and now everyone's walking around with smartphones and high-definition 60fps 1080p cameras etc lol
I don't know what computers or programs they were using at the time whenever this was made but I messed around with a very small amount of 3D animation on a very low end PC and just rendering a still image took forever so I can only imagine how long this took to render along with animation and everything else it's just very trippy to think about.
I need to re-watch this because it's been awhile but rereading my comment I can tell that I was fully immersed which normally doesn't happen with animations but I must have just finished listening to a video that lutein released idk lol

Knight Trooper, thank you for uploading this version, this is one of my favorite movie, I searched over 8 years without any luck, but the algorithm recommended it after I finished watching War Hammer.👍
Anyone see this and then the. Astartes project by that freelancer
They need to make a movie like THAT
God I hope Henry Cavills Warhammer movie will be like that
Even though this is beast wars level of animation. I felt it was done extremely well. I hope they produce more for other factions
Honestly, if they kept the helmets on more often, I feel there would be less complaints about that.
At least it’s not hammer and bolter quality
I compare the quality with the cutscenes from Diablo II and it was damm impressive back in time

So good my friend, incredible! I read so many of these comments and it hurts me to see that GW seems to only hurt its hardcore fans. Thank you for being the Emperor's vessel in uploading this video! As an ultramarines fan this was 🔥
This movie paved the way for a lot of what we have now.
Can we agree the music is as great as the movie itself or even better, I don't get tired of listening to it.
