24:51 Yes, near the end of TASM 1 they're not on talking terms but in last scene with them before the final swing their path to reconciliation is foreshadowed. Due to the fact that by the start of TASM 2 they are on talking terms it makes sense that they would've worked through things by this point, considering that the game takes place of few weeks/months after TASM 1.
I remember playing this game on the Nintendo 3DS. I’m still surprised that they were able to get all the single player levels working on the 3DS and they only had to cut out the open world. Heck, they even got fairly high quality cutscenes in the game.
Honestly, thinking about playing the game makes me so nostalgic. I don’t know how they managed to keep all of those titan bossfights intact. Don’t know what the hell happened to the second game though. The game is a grey, 2D, side scroller, look it up.
The web rush is the one thing I missed a lot in the insomniac game, the swinging is beautiful but it just feels slow compared to the 2 games before it, both amazing Spider-Man games nailed the swinging speed perfectly
the web rush was so good. When you run on top of a building then jump and spin like a movie. Also little things like helping people to hospitals or saving people from fires were great
This intrigues me because I always felt this was the best Spider-Man game (overall) until Insomniac's 2018 game. Been many years though. Perhaps if I replayed it I would not feel that way. I do remember liking the stealth in this game way more than the 2018 game. I also liked that it took place after the movie, rather than being a retelling. Also the sequel (TASM 2) sucked for the most part lol. It was somehow worse than the movie. Simultaneously a sequel to the first movie, the first game, a retelling of the movie sequel, and its own thing. Such a mess.
I'd say, on a plot level, TASM2's only real problem is that the trying to retell the film. For the most part it is a pretty decent story of Peter facing Kraven, Kingpin and Carnage in a way that makes it feel like the writers wanted to do their own original story, but then late in the game someone went "Oh f**k guys, this is meant to tie into the film" and they quickly threw in Max and Harry. I've always felt that it would've worked better if, instead of starting with Uncle Ben death #87, the game had started with a boss battle against Rhino, effectively picking up where the film left off, erasing Harry as working with Kingpin and just having Fisk fund the task force himself, or replacing Harry with Donald Menken, put Carnage's breakout as what forces Peter to abandon the assault on Fisk's compound, and then just, at two points in the story, had Peter flash back to Harry and Max if they really need the film's villains in the game. Edit: On reflection it could also strengthen the crimewave plot, because Peter, as well as some of his critics, could blame the crimewave on Spider Man's absence after Gwen's death (it's been almost a decade I'm not putting a spoiler warning)
@@medafan53 OMG, YES! This is exactly what the game should've been like. I always felt that Sony told Beenox to remake the movie instead of just letting them do their thing like the first game. To be fair, the PS3 and 360 version of Spider-Man 3 was supposed to be the version the devs supposedly put more effort in. The PS2 and Wii version was an afterthought and wanted to captalize on PS2 and Wii owners, I am not even sure if the 360 and PS3 version is any better, I barely remember it. But as for this game, I played it many years back and I recall kind of liking it, but it suffers from all your typical movie tie in game problems, good but half baked ideas that the devs had no time to flesh out due to releasing on the movie's release date. I do think this game by comparison fares better than the Amazing Spider-Man 2 game. This game was my GAME when I first got it back in 2012 on my birthday! I remember the web rush mechanic being the most hyped thing for me when I first read about it in Game Informer all that time ago! When I finally got to playing it and using the mechanic, I thought it was the best thing ever put into a Spider-Man game. Finally, Spider-Man was moving like something out of the movies! On that same note, I loved the combat for the same reason. I loved how it really felt like a uniquely Spider-Man way to fight the enemies, and in such a cinematic way. Beenox's games always had fanservice and there was a clear sense that they cared about Spider-Man, it's just their yearly time crunch always limiting the amount of polish they could put onto their games. I don't think the Amazing Spidey games would have been Insomniac level, but the games could probably have been better with more development time.
my favorite youtuber easily, most of the games you cover i’ve never played but i still like to hear your thoughts on them and a couple of them i’ve even played because of your videos. keep it up
Man you unlocked a memory with the Johnny Storm races in Ultimate Spider-Man. Those 4 races brought me to the doorstep of madness. Also you were playing that music from the Beetle chase with Spider-Man and I never knew how much I missed it
@@3rdDantetherapist Man I did these like a decade ago but I remember a big key to these races was air control, as in controlling the web zips and timing that second jump you get in order to do another web zip. I would swing to keep my speed but if I zipped too far it could also break my momentum so I could turn quick
Youre the only person that actually appreciates what makes every old spiderman good from a gamplay standpoint. So many people who go back to these games either dismiss or glaze over the gameplay mechanics
One hill I will die on in regards to this game is that it does mid-air webshooting way better than the 2018 game. In this one you go in a kind of dive and can shoot while keeping some momentum while in the 2018 one you just stop mid-air and lose all momentum
I remembered playing this game when I was younger and I really appreciated the new traversal, the camera angle and specially that the game had a unique original story that ocurred after the movie events
Lol this was the best looking Spider-Man game at the time it was released, if you ignore webs attached to clouds this is the most cinematic looking web swinging in any Spider-Man game.
One of those games I like to return to at least once a year, still love how it is treated like a sequel for the movie. WHen I first heard about the robot boss fights, I was kinda dissapointed but at the end they are the best part of the game and I freakin love em
I believe Insomniac looked the Amazing SM games and went "what if these games and the Arkham games were combined?" And I really miss the web rush and web retreat option/feature in insomniac SM games.
I love this game, it was my first Spider-Man game, and I just started playing it again, and it's just as good as I remember! Also, I really like the story, it's very clever how they did it!
Never played the console version but 3DS version was my first Spider-Man game. Looks like it's mostly the same game. A lot of the problems are more forgivable on the weaker handheld though.
lol I can’t even lie, during your bit for the nordVPN ad after you dropped the “I don’t live in the United States” I wondered to myself “oh wow I wonder if he moved somewhere from the US or if he’s Canadian because his accent sounds super American” and then right on cue, as if you were reading my mind, the thief in the bit says “okay sore-ree, sore-ree” and my question was immediately answered 🤣
I just played this game first time ever. I was very engaged to the story and enjoyed the game play. I liked that the game was not too long and completed the game 100%. Rare games I feel I completed and experienced completely. Its not difficult but still good game. Not all games needs to be overly challenging.
I remember playing this game, I enjoyed some of the good bright spots in this title even some features had nice super hero spider-man animation's I wish peter and miles could pull of in the insomniac games. I love the flying comic book pages in this game, we need it back for later titles by insomniac chances are they might not do it but hey it's worth a shot.
the first spider-man game i ever played was the 3ds version of TASM. i remember always being jealous of other consoles for their ability to free roam 😂
One of the best feature in this game is when you take more and more damage your suit gets more damaged or ripped. Many game comapnies dont even bother about this
the one thing i prefer in this game to insomniac's is the web shooting and how fluid it is when free falling. I hate freezing in mid air when shooting out some webs
Spider-Man 2 is probably the most fluid traversal system across any game ever made… so I really do disagree lol. I played the 2012 amazing Spider-Man game and it freezes you and limits you exponentially more when it comes to web swinging
I remember when the game came out my grandfather, mum and I went everywhere to find it I finally got it and I was so happy now that my grandfather has passed away I look on it fondly as a great memory
10:18 actually i think this is the case in miles morales, i believe i noticed my suit (the classic red and black one at least) getting torn on the rare occasion my health got really low, it might just be really unknown because healing is so easy so health almost never gets that low
So you cover a lot of AAA games from the 360 era and sequels to them. But what are some of your favourite indie games? And are you willing to cover them some day?
I know this game and its sequal are a mixed bag, but imo the attention to detail and variety(not numbers, but unique, like manspider and zombie spiderman) in the suits is better than even insomniacs run so far, especially with the damage Insomniac is definitely next best runner up but damn did it look cool to swing around as spidercarnage
i miss web rush too. I liked how it zoomed into spider-mans head and we got that first person view of the world from spider-mans perspective through the lenses
This game set the groundwork for how the Insomniac series plays. I'll always give it credit. It's one of my favorite (top 5) Spidey games. Will always love this one. The sequel isn't terrible, but feels like they nerfed the best things from this one.
I played this on the wii, and later again on the wiiu. I got 99% completion. I let ONE drone escape. Never got the black suit. Pissed me off for months. Never played it again.
24:55 Peter and Gwen being on speaking terms isn’t actually inaccurate to the film. At the end of TASM they aren’t on speaking terms until the very last line of the film in which Peter makes a joke, making her smile, implying they will most likely get back together. And in TASM2 they are together from the very start, confirming they got back together between films. So in fact this game doesn’t contradict either film, at least as far as Peter and Gwen are concerned.
I'm going back through the game, for the first time in like 10 years. I love this game, but one thing that always stuck with me was how piss easy it was. So for this playthrough I'm doing something a little different. I'm playing it on the hardest setting, Super-Hero, and it REALLY surprised me. The game is actually offering a decent challenge. Nothing too BS, no cheap deaths, no having to cheese the enemy just to make it through, just a good challenge to keep me on my toes. It honestly feels like this was the difficulty mode it was designed for and balanced around. I HIGHLY recommend giving it a try. ALL the enemies hit a LOT harder, can knock out out in two or three good hits, but don't feel spongy. The result is making the player feel like a real glass cannon, just like a good Spider-Man game should.
Thats why there is different difficulty levels in games. First time, you just want to enjoy the story and learning/discovering things in game and second time you wanna challenge yourself with hard difficulty. So, nothing to complaine about that in my opinnion.
This game was good with its atmosphere, combat and memorable moments like fighting giant robots, follow the rats through the city and so on, sequel have worse writing (like the movie) (first game doesn't have good writing but at least story had moments in which the main hero is defeated and weak without powers) worse web movement but they have more costumes and challenging stealth hideout
IMO, this is one of the better movie tie-in games. Has its flaws. But I enjoyed it unlike the film it’s tied to. Collecting actual Spider-Man comics that you can read was an awesome little bonus.
24:55 you should watch the movie again. At the end it's implied that Peter breaks his promise to Cap. Stacy and gets back togeather with Gwen. At the start of the second movie he feels guilt over that and decides to stop his contact with Gwen.
it's insinuated (and later confirmed in tasm2) that peter took aunt may's advice and gets back together with aunt may. so they are together between films
Hello. I’m new here and I like your perspective on the game. I remember playing this game a lot on the PS3 when I was in middle school. And I enjoyed it. Good times.
Who else liked this game and the first game Alistair Smythe and his spider Slayers robots were incredible Mainly the Villains Animal variants I loved this villain it's a shame that in the end he doesn't come back and dies A curiosity in the 1st game is the concept arts and in this Second Game it was supposed to have Kraven hunting the virus variants Animals and we would have the First game, the Lizard transforming everyone In the city in the final fight into Reptiles in the 1st game but it was cut from the story And also in 1 Game and in this one we would have Doctor octopus,Rhino,Scorpion,Iguana,Vermin,Wolf-Man,Morbius and Vulture animals monsters Species crossing They Return Like Villains being hunted And dead by Kraven And we would still have others human villains that were cut like: The gang war between Hammerhead vs Mister Negative Boss battle for us to fight And others boss fights That were cut The Enforcers,Chameleon,The Hood,Mysterio, the Rose,Sandman and Hydroman In this second game And we would even have more scenes from the prison that we visit and there would be several cells with the names of each of the villains That we would face and put them there and even the prison of the Kingpin,Carnage,Electro among others And the Shocker along with Curt Connors would be in this prison with others villains names appearing but it was removed from the final product And We would have The Venom,Jackal With the Clone Saga + Sinister Six is the mains villains of the 3rd game It's a shame that all of this was removed but Alistair Smythe remains the best villain of all and for me the first game is incredible And it would be interesting if there was a 3rd game to close this saga and with all these Villains that were not used UwU 🥺😎👍 like and Bye!
Honestly that intro going through most of the spider-man games and their reputation to set the scene is great, and I agree with the points about this game. Minor points about SM3, I played the 360 version waaay before I discovered SM2, I mean SM3 was my first spidey game. The ps2 SM3 does majorly suck, it's really bad, however it plays well on the psp. The vita version of TASM is the same as the console game open world and all, just with a crunchy layer of compression. Pairing both on my vita they're in my opinion the best portable open world spider-man games if you ignore that the steam deck can play basically every single spidey game to date
I want to point out the amazing Spider-Man Canada lives up in the air about Peter and Gwen‘s relationship. Because after the funeral in the movie, she does say he made you promise didn’t hear he made you promise to stay away from me. And then you see Peter getting to school and the teacher says you’re late again, Mr. Parker. But it’s better late than never. He says I promise it won’t happen again. The teacher says in response don’t make promises you can’t keep. And then Peter leans over to Gwen saying the thing is those are the best kind of promises. And as we see an amazing, Spider-Man two they are together. So the Game actually does not contradict the movie I’m not trying to be rude. This is a fact I wanted to point out.
25:00 Not to be the kind of nerd who remembers little plot details from TASM2, but this actually is the case. In-between movies, Peter and Gwen kept getting back together until he felt guilty and broke up with her. In the movie, Gwen calls him out on this and SHE breaks up with him this time, and him dealing with that is the bulk of the romantic subplot in the movie
I absolutely love the suit getting damaged, I think miles morales also does it well but it’s not as good as the battle damage progression in this game and the sequel
Honestly back then I enjoyed the amazing spider-man games a lot but did hate the swinging but that was really my only complaint. The Web Rush mechanic tho was so cool tho

@@3rdDantetherapist Man I did these like a decade ago but I remember a big key to these races was air control, as in controlling the web zips and timing that second jump you get in order to do another web zip. I would swing to keep my speed but if I zipped too far it could also break my momentum so I could turn quick
@@donovanbowman8157 oh thanks
I remember spending hours playing Edge of Time, but this game and Arkham City were the first games I no-lifed.
13:54 What makes up for the Johnny Storm races is the fact that Johnny drinks water reengineered from piss
Damn man that swinging still looks super dope I like the way the camera zooms in while do some cool swing motion or running along a wall
The web rush is the best part of this game.
I still have nightmares of the Johnny Storm races too... I wake up with my palms in cold sweat!
lol I can’t even lie, during your bit for the nordVPN ad after you dropped the “I don’t live in the United States” I wondered to myself “oh wow I wonder if he moved somewhere from the US or if he’s Canadian because his accent sounds super American” and then right on cue, as if you were reading my mind, the thief in the bit says “okay sore-ree, sore-ree” and my question was immediately answered 🤣
Ah the ultimate weekend rental kind of game.
Maaaan but honestly it did really well for what it had to work with 3d environments same combat unlike the sequel on it
One of the best feature in this game is when you take more and more damage your suit gets more damaged or ripped. Many game comapnies dont even bother about this
I played this when I was younger, and loved it. I recently revisited it. I didn't enjoy it as much, but I think it still holds up.
the one thing i prefer in this game to insomniac's is the web shooting and how fluid it is when free falling. I hate freezing in mid air when shooting out some webs
I think this game also did combat animations better than insomniac
@@calebmcclure3893yeah no. Insomniac improved on the combat in these games. The combat in the ASM games feels clunky af
@@calebmcclure3893wrong
Spider-Man 2 is probably the most fluid traversal system across any game ever made… so I really do disagree lol. I played the 2012 amazing Spider-Man game and it freezes you and limits you exponentially more when it comes to web swinging
Played this game years ago and finished it in one day. Damn the nostalgia.
One thing I liked about these games was suit damage within fights. Wish if it was in insomniacs spider-man games
im pretty sure all of the story inconsistencies are just because the game developers hadnt actually seen the movie while developing most of it
The “Amazing” Spider-Man Video Game walked so Spider-Man PS4 could run.
I remember playing this as a kid and being terrified by the lizard
This definitely set the ground for the swinging animations and combat in the 2018 one
So you cover a lot of AAA games from the 360 era and sequels to them. But what are some of your favourite indie games? And are you willing to cover them some day?
I know this game and its sequal are a mixed bag, but imo the attention to detail and variety(not numbers, but unique, like manspider and zombie spiderman) in the suits is better than even insomniacs run so far, especially with the damage
Insomniac is definitely next best runner up but damn did it look cool to swing around as spidercarnage
web rush should be in insomniacs spider-man 3 in my opinion
i miss web rush too.
Does we keep forgetting the fact, that the guy who composed TASM game is the same one who composed most of God of War's Greek Saga.
I knew the composer of the music from this game had to be good. The overworld's music is just out of the world.
I loved this game as a kid. I wanted to get the dlc characters but didn’t have my own money
So, nothing to complaine about that in my opinnion.
for the time this game was very fun, couldn’t ask for much more
This game was good with its atmosphere, combat and memorable moments like fighting giant robots, follow the rats through the city and so on, sequel have worse writing (like the movie) (first game doesn't have good writing but at least story had moments in which the main hero is defeated and weak without powers) worse web movement but they have more costumes and challenging stealth hideout
IMO, this is one of the better movie tie-in games. Has its flaws. But I enjoyed it unlike the film it’s tied to.
Collecting actual Spider-Man comics that you can read was an awesome little bonus.
This and arkham was my middle school era. So many good games on that ps3
I played this on the Vita… it was an experience of all time.
Favorite web swinging out of all the games i like when they make him more acrobatic
This is a great game. The best spider-man game to this day.
Hello. I’m new here and I like your perspective on the game. I remember playing this game a lot on the PS3 when I was in middle school. And I enjoyed it. Good times.
Who else liked this game and the first game Alistair Smythe and his spider Slayers robots were incredible Mainly the Villains Animal variants I loved this villain
it's a shame that in the end he doesn't come back and dies
A curiosity in the 1st game is the concept arts and in this Second Game it was supposed to have Kraven hunting the virus variants Animals and we would have the First game, the Lizard transforming everyone In the city in the final fight into Reptiles in the 1st game but it was cut from the story And also in 1 Game and in this one we would have Doctor octopus,Rhino,Scorpion,Iguana,Vermin,Wolf-Man,Morbius and Vulture animals monsters Species crossing They Return Like Villains being hunted And dead by Kraven And we would still have others human villains that were cut like: The gang war between Hammerhead vs Mister Negative Boss battle for us to fight
And others boss fights That were cut
The Enforcers,Chameleon,The Hood,Mysterio, the Rose,Sandman and Hydroman In this second game And we would even have more scenes from the prison that we visit and there would be several cells with the names of each of the villains That we would face and put them there and even the prison of the Kingpin,Carnage,Electro among others And the Shocker along with Curt Connors would be in this prison with others villains names appearing but it was removed from the final product
And We would have The Venom,Jackal With the Clone Saga + Sinister Six is the mains villains of the 3rd game
It's a shame that all of this was removed but Alistair Smythe remains the best villain of all and for me the first game is incredible And it would be interesting if there was a 3rd game to close this saga and with all these Villains that were not used UwU 🥺😎👍 like and Bye!
This and edge of time are my fav Spiderman games of my childhood
I just finished a replay of this game and we get this immediately after. I'm convinced this man is stalking me now.
17:30 made me think of death stranding
I thought that bat comparison was going a completely different direction.
I remember the absolute hype for this game in 2012.
24:44 it's morbin time
Honestly when i first played this game, this was my favourite spiderman game at that time until spiderman ps4 was released
I remember being so hype for this game when I was 15
Just beat this game for the first time. Really good voice acting and diolouge.
Man it’s most definitely nostalgia but I love this game. The vibe was immaculate and I thought the story was fantastic
I absolutely love the suit getting damaged, I think miles morales also does it well but it’s not as good as the battle damage progression in this game and the sequel
How'd you know how my spider man experience went as a kid?
Honestly back then I enjoyed the amazing spider-man games a lot but did hate the swinging but that was really my only complaint. The Web Rush mechanic tho was so cool tho
I remember playing this on my 3DS back in the day
I miss the old vibe of amazing spider man the game is really good and I still think that and it will be always be in my memory.
