Adom7#5, not Am7#5 :)
Yeah I noticed that just after I published the video haha, not much I can do about it now! (apart from pin this comment to the top 😃)
@@Piano_Pig is hard to get it right live man.
But we got the message lol.
I'd of just poked him in the eye...
A7b13 to be exact.
Agree..I've made my share of mistakes.
I have a long, long way to go, but I am at the point where I can pick this kind of thing up almost immediately, the groove at least, and then start adding fairly simple fills to it. This makes me very happy.
Man, I need say it... Your are an excelent teacher. Great videos. Thanks, keep on.
Thanks man!
Always look forward to new videos from you..thanks!
That's great to know!
Great tutorial! The best lessons!

You are a great teacher, God bless you.
nice tutorial 👍👍 Hey, Im wondering if u can make a video about different right hand piano voicings while playing the melody note on the same hand. How and when to use them. Thank you 😊
PianoPig is the best....
Muy buena lección muchas gracias!
Lección es muy bueno. Yo hablo ingles pero Yo hablo un poquito de español.

Great, great chords progression man.
I'm glad you like it!
PianoPig
Yes Sir, I love the way those Chords sounds. Please, keep sharing some more Chords with alteration. #5- #9- #b9- 11- 13. Thanks man, you're a great Piano player.
Fancy filming! Thanks as always ♥️
I've been trying to improve my filming skills recently, glad you noticed :)
This was the perfect vid at the perfect time. Because only recently figured out that the #11 of Dm is a great note to play off. That's why a Bflat 7 #11 chord just before the Aalt chord sounds good. The flat 7 of the Bflat is Aflat note.. (or G#) , the #11 of Dm chord
Amazing content instruction here Simon ! So much to learn, and done so clearly. Well Done Sir...
Really like the video here. Good to read the sheet.musi. My mind converts this to.slash chords immediately..Working on this..
Omg ! I wasn’t looking for this but I actually find this song that I love ( stronger than me by Amy Winehouse ) 🤩
Very beautiful good job
I just wanted to say I left piano for a year and I just went back because you made me miss the piano and showed how beautiful of an instrument piano is
Thank you very much!
Thanks! I love reading comments like this, it makes me happy knowing I've inspired someone to keep playing the piano! Keep it up :)
I really like your channel. Thank you sir.
I like that you like my channel.
LOVE your videos some are very good making me a better piano player
Simon God bless you
Peace love and happiness
No worries dude! Glad you're been getting value from the channel 😃
Great job.
Thanks!
Thank you!
My pleasure!
Hi Dear Simon very nice
Very nice video as always. What type of wrong scales are you thinking about? Thanks
Thanks piano 🐷
Smooth Operator chords ! (A7 b13)
and... I've been so curious about figuring out that riff I sometimes here in jazz and you played it at 5:49 and 5:50 ( G and D, then going up to the #11 from the G and decending) I hear this a lot in jazz
What scale are you using to improvise?
cool!
It would sound nice to continue playing Dm7 - E7(#5) - Am7 - D7 (#5) - Gm7
Love u
Great tutorial, love the groove. 2 questions please: (1) I assume this is a iv - V - i progression in D minor, but why is the 5 on the A7 sharpened? That color sounds fantastic, but what is the theory behind this? Is this common in minor key or also in major? (2) What scale are you using to improvise, essentially only over the D minor really, and what passing notes and why? Thanks a lot!
1. Sharping the 5th on dominant 7 chords is very common, it just creates more tension which then creates a bigger resolution to the Dm.
2. This is hard to answer in a single sentence! I would start out by playing around with D minor pentatonic, D minor blues scale and then D dorian.
2) F major -D minor
Yeah! Thumb up! :) Thank you
Thanks!
Marco, leggi il messaggio privato, ciao
Definitely learning this tomorrow. Too tired today! I need to be practicing more of this sort of thing so I can improvise, rather than just learning songs. By the way..those dreads look like they’ll be on the way back one day not too soon! Haha!
Nice! Good to practice wish a fresh head :) and yeah my hair growing back super fast!!
Take the progression to the circle of fourths or fifth using only 1 riff pattern to practice in different keys
i never plan to learn to play, (it's impossible with having dyspraxia) can't you do some videos about using these methods in midi? like draw them in a daw aftermath of these videos would be a huge ass help
Yes i can riff now
Excelente aula!
How to know what scale are you going to use at the right hand? Thanks :)
Stronger Than Me - Amy Winehouse
Haha yes! Exactly the same chord progression - a good song as well! :)
Stuffs a bit above my level but god damn I can't wait to speak like this!
Keep up the practice and you'll get there!
This is from 3 years ago. I would be glad to make things a bit clearer. I myself..have been playing guitar and piano 45 yrs.
Still learning myself.
woooow
Hi, i have been to your web page. Do have an outline for each of the modules you are going to teach ? I am pretty interested in chord essentials and improvisation..and all kinds of playing styles.
There isn't an outline available to see for each course I'm afraid! But I can tell you that Chord Essentials has over 15 lessons and is a step-by-step walkthrough on the basics of chords. There's currently just 1 course on Improvisation - 'The Mini Improv Course', it's not that mini to be honest, it's contains a load of backing tracks, PDF downloads and it's jam-packed with material! Hope to see you in the Academy :)
Nice. Are you improvising using the chord tones of the last chord in the progression?
Not all the time, but I definitely make use of the chord tones yes!
hi simon!
Hi Devon!
This sounds great, and it's crazy useful. I'm working on it, and I will be for weeks. But something I'm not following--Ami7(#5) looks to me like an A7. It's looks like you're playing a C#, the third in an A chord, and the E (the fifth) doesn't appear to be sharped. Am I missing something?
I'm glad you're finding it useful! Firstly, I made a mistake with the notations... it should be an A7(#5) as I said and played in the video. That explains why the C# is there. And you're completely correct about the E not being sharpened, you'll notice it contains the note F... this is harmonically the same note as E# but the software I was using for the light up keyboard notated if as F, instead of E#. But technically, it should be an E#. Good job for noticing :)

Jazz video about 251's (voicings, licks or something) coming up :)?
1:49
Your 2nd chord is notated incorrectly.
It is indeed, thank you for making the observation! Not much I can do it about it now though!
Keep up your excellent work.
This is like havana song
Is this in any particular key? I'm new to playing and I'm curious about what I can play in my right hand with this.
This is in the key of Dm, so play around with D minor pentatonic, D minor blues or D dorian. Also check out my video on how to come up with ideas when beginning to improvise: ua-cam.com/video/Q7urNQeToz0/v-deo.html
PianoPig Thank you for the quick response. I was watching your video on the blues scales and wanted to have a left hand rhythm to play while I improvise.
Iv'e tried also the Dm harmonic scale, cause it is easy to substitute natural minors with harmonic minors. But trying the D dorian makes it a little bit out off the tonality.
Reminds me of Wii music
What's the difference between Fills, Riffs & Licks?
None really haha
I wanna know how to play your video intro
You're in luck: ua-cam.com/video/x8J9CzSXrUE/v-deo.html
Over my head.
Shaggy .. is that you ?
I felt like I was improvising piano for the first time in my life
That's always a wonderful moment!
cannabies is the
me feeling like a pro when i get the progression be llike:
Is this piece your own composition?
It is indeed :)
Great stuff! I was just wondering as I am a singer-songwriter and producer and have a vision of a great topline and production for this, if of course you are up for doing something like this with it ??? I will put your name on credits as composer of course , let me know if you are up for collaboration or even hearing some of my ideas with it?
this is close to an Anita Baker movement
I have no idea what the comments are saying.. I'm a beginner.
why piano pig ?
You don't really explain what fills, riffs, and licks are.
Rubbish
Good grief. A7#5. At least know wtf you play.
Great lessons, great playing but please stop with that intro to talk About your site...
