I love how Jay Leno isn't just some rich dude who owns a ton of cool cars just because he can. He actually loves and understands the engineering and historical value behind them! I'm not one to get "star struck" over famous people at all but I would love to meet him! Keep up the awesome work educating and entertaining us car nuts like yourself Jay!

I've logged more hours watching Jay Leno's garage than I did watching him on the tonight show.
+Mahatma Coat I never really watched the show, but I can guess that I've spent at least 50 hours watching his videos on youtube. I think I know him more as the car guy named Jay Leno, than the celebrity, which is a little weird I suppose oO or maybe not, I don't know, and never really think about it, lol. ^^

Yep as a tv show host he was good and everything, but as a car collector he is king. And the fact that he shares his collection with us the viewers, drives his cars like they are meant to be driven, and isnt scared to tastefully modify a lot of these rare and beautiful specimens where other wankers would keep the "correct" and bubble wrap them.
I could not agree more! I've spent countless hours with Jay watching his videos. You could lose track of reality and consider him a friend without ever shaking his hand. It would be a priceless memory to sit and chat with Jay before I pass away, I could also run a marathon..LOL! Enjoy the priceless collection of his passion which we share, without ever going for a ride in any of the cars except through Jays cameras. TY for sharing Jay!!!

It's wrong, but it's also something only the extremely rich can enjoy. At least they can be viewed by the public in museums.
Our museum runs and flies our stuff...can be especially challenging on aircraft.

I wasn't a massive fan of the Tonight show, but I really enjoy Jay's car enthusiasm and this channel.

Back in 1974 I was driving my brothers PV 544 Volvo through Bay Head ,NJ an old rich town on the Ocean when this old lady w her hair up in curlers came driving around the corner w A Bugatti Royale!!

Jay, I love this show. My son and I watch an episode a day. He's two and a half and already knows how to identify the different cars and loves looking at engines! Thank you for doing such a fantastic job!

I have a Bugatti room full of Bugattis too, it's just that they're all 1:64 scale.
I hope more people adopt jays philosophy of actually driving these cars, and sharing the experience. it's just amazing how much more you can learn by the noise, and the steps taken to even get it started. naturally if it's a one of a kind, well...it should still be driven, just maybe very very rarely hehe. I love seeing the polished areas people would normally ignore or pan away from, seeing the stitching, and the way people solved problems we don't even see as an issue today, like leather straps to hold the hood down, wire (omg!) that actually connects the body to the chassis..wow. just wish we had smell o vision ;)
I grew up in Anderson, IN, a few blocks from a shop that was restoring Bugattis in the 1950s. I passed by the shop every schoolday on my way to school. Back then, Americans had never heard of Bugatti. When I tried to explain to my friends the significance of that shop, they just looked blank at me. I will always regret that I never stopped and talked to the people inside.
My heart races just watching him drive Bugattis. Imagine driving one back when it was new. That would have been a life changing experience.
Jay needs to have his own parade. There could be 40 of Jay's cars in the parade and each driver must wear a J Leno mask. It would be hilarious and beautiful. .. Do it Jay.

Yes, yes! My feelings exactly, it is wrong for the magnificence of iconic vehicles to be wasted in a museum and not to be experienced. It's not that it is wrong to preserve the machine but the point and appreciation of their qualities ability to inspire emotion is lost if they are not permitted to strut their stuff. Art is to be looked at, machines are to be experienced. That is why I can spend so much time watching Leno's Garage, he lets these old icons stretch their legs. It is the closest most of us will ever get to relating those cars to cars as we know them today...... as I drive to work in my Honda Civic financed over 84 easy monthly payments.
People take their Honda Civics for granted when in fact they are better engineered than any Bugatti, past or present.
As a boy, I looked at photographs and dreamed about cars like this hoping, maybe one day I'd actually get to see one. But, never did I think I'd get to see one run - and hard. Usually, with historic machines like this, worth so much, owners might start it or move around just above idle to show it off - making me feel terrible. What a pleasure it was to see this thing run as intended. Thank you, Mr. Leno.

I just love those vintage Bugattis. Ever since I built that 1/8 scale model of a Type 50T made by Pocher back in 1982. It's great to be able to see videos of these fine cars now.

Thanks for the ride along Mr. Leno! You think like I do in that it's a crime to let these cars just sit and never be driven. My father and I mess around with old international harvester tractors and we try to use all of them in the field as often as possible. Our oldest horse is a 1929 22-36 and let me tell u its areal trip to hand crank that puppy to life! Cheers!

I like to think that after Jay has passed on someday that his garage will live on as a national treasure. What a fantastic collection of cars and memories he has acquired. I really enjoy that the cars have a story, from owners, to races, to engineering feats. His garage is literally like and automotive time capsule and the best part of it all is they're all still living artifacts that run and drive. God bless you Jay Leno, you are a true legend of car culture and history.
Watching this episode as well as many others for probably the hundredth time (just finished the 55 Mercedes-Benz 300SL gullwing ep. as well.. anyone who is watching this video and has not seen that episode should definitely watch it, oh and the Jag XK120M episode ). Actually all of these shows are great but what I feel is really great is when the car featured is one from Jay's own collection. His enthusiasm for these amazing cars is inspiring, interesting and a lot of fun to watch. It is simply incredible that on one channel we can see anything from this 1928 Bugatti Type 37a to an amazing Lotus Elan 26R to a sweet little Datsun 510 restored by Jay's prop guy (really an amazing Datsun 510, would love to daily drive a 510 like that). It really seems that even though Jay spent his career as a comedian and host of The Tonight Show, his real legacy will be the awesome care and admiration he has for these timeless and beautiful automobiles. So while it may be somewhat belated I would like to say Thank You to Jay the car guy for sharing his real appreciation for these very important pieces of automotive history. Good to know we have this video library as an online museum of sorts. One of my all time favorite channels.

That ride had my heart going, THAT THING IS FUN! I'm flabbergasted a 1928 tooling around spanking modern vehicles and sounding excellent.
I don't think that I've ever seen Jay Leno as reverential about a car as he was about this one. His closing statement that he hoped a future owner would remember him as a guy "who took good care of it [the car]…" was touching and heartfelt.

All of "us auto enthusiasts", will forever remain in debt to Mr. Leno. There are many "car collector's", but, only Jay Leno "shares his passion so often & unreservedly" with "us"!
We all dream of these wonderful rolling masterpieces of human work, knowing that we'll never be so fortunate, as to actually being the caretaker of them. Mr. Leno let's us, just for a few all-to-short moments, "sit in the driver's seat, and realize those dreams"!

Given the opportunity to own a Bugatti, I would take something like this over a Veyron or any car from the later company.
I still can't believe Bugatti had thought too lower the chassis and go with smaller displacement with a super charger! Pure genius for the 20's era. Love you Jay your true car nut.

+Alex Green IIRC People in general were shorter and smaller back in the 20s and 30s I would have stood well above most men of that era, but even today car racers use shoes that are more like thin cycling shoes with extremely thin hard soles, this type of racing shoe was common even back in the 20s and 30s, that might explain why the clearances are so tight in the older cars, at least in racing type cars.
I have to admit, if I had the money I still wouldnt hesitate to order the Pur Sang version of it :-D

That engine looks like it was sculpted. Beautiful! I prefer the old Bugatti's over the modern ones. These old bugatti's are real pieces of art. One other great thing is, that Jay Leno drives this work of art in the way it was meant for. Not keeping it away in a showroom, but just driving it on the road and not too slowly, LOL!

I laughed through the entire driving segment. That car, the sound, in LA traffic with Jay Leno is just crazy fun. Not to mention how it could possibly be legal to run a GP car on the road in CA. No front plate, no rear plate, no muffler... no problem.

I have my computer hooked up to my big stereo system and I crank this up! This and the Barchetta are my favorite sounding of all his cars and the Monza is a close second. Thank you Jay for the efforts getting high quality sound recordings!
FYI, Badge is No. 3 for the member number not the car number. Jay explains the No. 3 meaning in a later video for his 1929 Bugatti Type 40 (which also has a No. 3 badge for the American Bugatti Club). Jay bought both cars from Robert Dunlap, president of the American Bugatti Club. Robert was the 3rd member of the club. Pretty cool. I bet Jay bought this car first (it’s an older video too), and later bought the Type 40 and saw the same numbered badge as his Type 37A (seen here) and asked for clarity on the badge system. Another great video. Thanks guys.

Judging from on design, Alfa 8C 2300 (1933) looks better. To brand Bugatti, I respect.

Man I absolutely love the hand crank oil pump reservoir for adding in oil while you drive. That kind of ingenuity is what really stands out to make these early vehicles so darn special to me.

Technology...wow. 80 years later my Touareg is faster than this. One of the faster cars you can get back in the day to a modern SUV lol. Apple to oranges I know, but technological leaps we have made
