1927 Bugatti Type 35 Pur Sang Replica - Jay Leno's Garage

My dad owns an original Bugatti 35 B from 1927 and we drive it every weekend in the south of France. We go to small towns and park the car outside of cafés and boulangeries to buy bread. This car is just amazing!
The only downside with the ones made in argentina is that they do not really "look, smell and sound like the original". Even though some replicas are manually aged, they still do not have the same patina as 93 year-old cars. In addition , the sound an argentinian replica makes is not really the the same as an original as you can clearly tell the difference when you know how an original sounds like .
If the replica firing order is different from the original then definitely it will not sound the sand as the original ! No tearing calicot then.
Yes, the Boogeratti is a fine auto, amazing for the time.
Very different when you can see and hear one moving. I have always respected the early cars. Now all I want is to see more models rippin' around. Awesome Jay , you're teaching and preserving history.
Omg. That Sound! I would chose this car over any modern super car in same price range. Fantastic looking car.
You got it!!!
Yes the sound is amazing !!!!!!!
Both fine cars !...but the Bugatti is my special ! A car-magazine did a test, long ago : this Bugatti shown, did 8.1 seconds 0-100(62.5mph). The Capri Parana,v8( standard) took 7.2 SEC's. But, from 0-160(100mph), Bugatti 16.2 sec and the Capri, 17.8 sec. Jay !...you are cruel !....do you know how my poor heart is aching, for this black ,hors'ie !!!.....thank you for dealing with us !
This is now my top 5 favorite dream cars this just remind me of the rich fuel and the sound and the fun of feeling like Superman and excitement you can feel the car as it accelerates
I don’t have the checkbook to support it but if I did I’d order a LHD and drive it every day between the snow seasons
The supercharger and straight cut gears make it sound like a goddamn spaceship.
for all intends and purposes it was a spaceship when it was made
spaceships don't make noise carl
Pedro Sa that's a good one
Yup, it was way ahead of his time.
Don’t imagine space craft sounding like farm machinery
I keep coming back to this video just to listen to that sound. @ 11:35
lets go thru the gears - 1,2... 😂😂
Same I have listen to this video 7 or 8 times
11:40 tho
Absolutely!!!
It is only manufactured in Argentina. handcrafted like 100 years ago. from the engine, bodywork, chassis 100%. all original. a 0km but 100 years old.
Jay Leno reaches into his own pocket, and pays hundreds of people, to maintain his cars, and, make videos of them, for us. Just a remarkable man, paying it forward, with every floored engine! This is an American Car Guy.....
+Coolyards Yep. Jay Leno is a solid dude. I'd love to just hang out with him one day.
and gives promotion to a small family like buisness in argentina too :)
Caver Ramos A promotion to reach people that can't afford em. The people that can buy one already know of Pur Sang.
Part and parcel
Well, when you have no kids and tons money, what do you do?
What a glorious sound the supercharged engine makes !!!
It's a symphony of mechanical perfection, & bloody quick.
It is amazing how in Argentina where nothing can be imported to build these replicas that everything is made in house.
I like Jay's suggestion of a race series for these cars .
Good idea about the race series, can you imagine the sound on the track of 20 of these roaring past? Wowsers...
Best idea I've heard in years.
Renzsu go to Goodwood revival in the UK
@@104thDIVTimberwolf it would be interesting to run a few next to each other just to see what that sounds like
That just looks and sounds amazing! The craftsmanship to build absolutely everything in house in today's world is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
When you can actually FEEL a car through a video, you know it's truly an automotive wonder. Wow!
Imagine driving this in 1927, and overtaking people in horse carriages. You'd be a total baller.
Most cars in 1927 struggled to reach 60mph. The Ford Model A introduced in 1927 had a top speed of 60mph. It had a 40hp engine. The Chevrolet Series AB National had a 35 hp engine. The Chrysler Imperial introduced in 1926 was a "top-of-the-line" premium luxury car for the rich and it had a top speed of 80mph and a 90hp engine. The Bugatti Type 35B had a 140hp engine, was light-weight and could reach 120mph.
You'd be a total baller in this any day, not just 1927
I bet the ladies be showing you some ankle when you pull up in one of those.
@@Robert_Browne lol all for Cylus
You could hardly overtake ANYTHING with the severe lack of power it's got.
I'd pay 250 grand for that before kicking 2 million for a veron
Absolutely !!
Marcus Brown, I was just thinking something very much the same. Even If I could...this or Perhaps the Monza would be greatly preferable. To me as well. 👍
I'd just add lights and number plates (+ maybe heat insulation)
Marcus Brown or 5 million for a original type 37A.
Second that.
I was a Junior in high school in 1970, when I got my 1957 Austin Healey 100-6. I used to rave about the sound it made and I still love the 'noise' that straight 6 makes, my friends never got it . . . but it's nice to know there are still those who do. Thanks Jay.
My God, the harmony of the whine from the gearbox and the glorious defiant roar of that engine--no Mozart symphony sounds that good...
Grabbing 3rd at 12:04 is why i come back to this video every few months. amazing car
Amen - same. Best 5 seconds in Leno’s best video.

What a car! I have loved them since I was little, I was born in the 70s and am privileged to have a Father that has owned many wonderful cars and still does he also took me to historic race meets where I got to see cars like Bugatti, Lotus, Ferrari and even have the opportunity to sit in them and on occasions get a drive. I will leave this earth a happy man for the joy and fun I have had with classic and vintage cars in my life. Thank you Jay for sharing your passion.
I wish my Dad was still around so I could share these videos with him, he would have got such a kick out of them.
You said exactly what I think every time I watch these videos, bruh.

Same, man.
Matthew Sharpe very touching comment indeed..
Being the purest that I am,I would dare not turn my nose up at this very respectable recreation of an original design. Hats off to to company and crew. Salute.
I am so thankful for the work you do, Jay. To show us these fantastic cars, no longer around.
Still my favorite video Jay's ever done... The car, the sound, the prospective obtainability! Truly a dream machine.
Just plain wow!!! Beautiful Machine!
I have the Franklin model of this. Valentino liked Issotta Fraschini and Avion Voison and was a fan of french and italian products. I believe he had one of these as well.
sounds fantastic
One of the most thrilling engine sounds of all time. Killer power to weight ratio, total analog driving feel, looks great flying down the road. Brilliant episode!
I really love the póster on the back....." Les pur Sang des automóviles"
Easily my favorite JLG episode. I don't know how many times I've watched it. Nothing else looks or sounds like that. Maybe the most desirable car for me I've ever seen.
God that rumble of that engine is incredible!
Bugatti has, for nearly a century, built the fastest and most inspiring super cars ever produced.
Super car at 125mph or 270mph, it is the thrilling experience of raw driving experience.
This is the most beautiful work of art I have seen in a very long time.
Who knew you could buy a replica of the Mona Lisa ))
How awesome is that !! Getting to experience a brand new 1927 Bugatti Type 35 and have fun with it like a time traveler. I'd take this over the antique anytime :)
Congrats to the makers, what a fine job, and thanks Jay for your channel !!!
jay leno please never stop this show god i can hear this guy talk about cars for hours on end so much passion for cars a true enthusiast..top gear uk take note and learn how to appreciate every car for what they are instead of just praising British cars and kinda kicking the rest to the curb..
Man this is what I call a quality replica.. And in many ways better than the original probably just with the newer metals they use to build the engine and transmission. To think they also use the English wheel and hammer to beat the aluminum panels just like they did almost 95 years ago is stunning. I wonder if they do Ferraris, it would be so cool if they recreate a Ferrari California SWB, wow that would be incredible.
+Arisgod27 They will make anything you want, but it will take time and won't be as cheap as the Bugatti. They have made a Maserati A6G Zagato and Mercedes SSK's as well as other cars.
I swear if I had the bucks I would ask them to make a Ferrari SWB California. That to me is the best looking car in the world. Hell engine wise they can use one of the BMW or Mercedes V12s.
OH MY GOD! What a beautiful and exhilarating part of history. While you were driving I felt what that car was doing. What a wonderful ride.
I'll tell you what. This is what Jay Leno gives to us that we would never be able to experience any other way. Go to Laguna Seca and watch one of these drive by every few minutes or cruise along side to hear and watch this car drive. Oh and a shout out to the camera car crew - good work, guys. Thanks Jay.
Seriously. Can't count the things I've learned from Jay Leo's garage, or the perspectives I've gained. Public benefactor all the way.
Jay, about 55 years ago I dreamt about driving cars that looked and sounded just like this car. This took me back in time to relive the excitement I had playing with cars that looked like this dream machine. Thanks again!
She is a real beauty! The best replica I've ever seen.
The Type 35 is perhaps the greatest all round car ever produced, aesthetically and in terms of racing success. It is a great example of form and function, it is not overdone, it just sufficient in every way. A car that was designed for the track and could be used on the road. No secret that Ettore Bugatti collected watch and truly saw the beauty in mechanical design.
I knew about the great Argentine driver(s), Juan Fangio, Aerton Senna, ET AL, but this a real revelation to me, Its my understanding that even the engines are made in Argentina? I never knew this nation possessed such engineering competence, utter respect to Argentina!!
Senna was from Brazil, yes we do have a really interesting automotive industry
Que crees...que andamos en ojotas..
The finest Argentinian old school handcraft at it best
Jay, we cars guys out here wrenching in our garages, enjoying the craft, owe you a great debt for discovering, preserving great cars and educating us. You regard all cars, the sublime and profane, as the engineering accomplishments they are. My bucket list has on it something that isn’t available - to tour your shop and see your collection in person. Maybe some day...
The footage of Mr. Leno driving in this video ranks among the most badass automotive cinema ever.
Made in Argentina, espectacular!!!!
@pipini pone google, papafritas..
A fabulous video - the sound of that car, and the looks - incredible! It made me smile just looking at the computer screen. Isn't it wonderful that the engineering craft skills to build something like this are still available, and that a company exists to build these cars?
Thank you Mr. Leno for this wonderful posting.
I can just hear Jay's neighbors now, there goes that darned Leno again !
I like your user name. It reminds me of Tina belcher from the Halloween episode of bobs burgers.
this is one of my favorite episodes,i love it when jay features quality cars that the "average" man could buy,i really enjoy his restoration blogs and wish he could feature in length some of his builds
What a beautiful machine....and that sound!
Thank heaven for shows like this and companies that rebuilt those ultra rare classics for us to still see. This car represented the true spirit of Bugatti. They say its the only car in the world that won over a thousand races in a decade back in the 20's
Come to Prescott Hill Climb near Cheltenham Glos UK and watch real old Bugattis racing on the hill! Nice little museum there too at the home of the Bugatti Owners Club.
Jay is the most down to earth celebrity
Well, if anybody needs to know, Pursang is in Catalán, it translates literally into spanish "Pura sangre" which in turn would be translated literally to english as "pure blood". The correct translation from the catalán word "pursang" into english is "Thoroughbred".
Thoroughbred is what you use for horses. Pedigree is what you use for dogs. They all mean the same thing: pure blood. There was nothing wrong with that initial translation since you mean it generally anyway, lol.
Love the car, love the sound of the straight cut gears and the supercharger.
And got a kick out of Jay's little fuzzy wind deflecting microphone her was wearing on his collar.
This is one of the cars of all time.
am I the only one who REALLY wants to see a video of that type 57?
Thank god for Jays garage whilst under lockdown, love Jays genuine enthusiasm , knowledge and obviously his beautiful collection.
Pur Sang, Parana, Entre Rios, Argentina 👌
I was just in Argentina but sadly I didn't get a chance to visit the Pur Sang factory. If I ever return, hopefully it will be with a check in my hand to put down on a Type 35!! I've watched this video at least a dozen times. Magnificent automobile.
Man these cars are amazing I would take this car over any new so called modern car.
When i was younger old cars weren't that intresting to me, but since i started watching your channel jay, i love them all, its so much fun watching the pure core of automobiles being driven around !
Love it! Found this through the smoking tire podcast. I'm really starting to appreciate prewar cars.
10:57 mandatory McLaren F1 mention :)
my favourite car shown by Jay so far, nice:)
I love when Jay does episodes on the old cars. This is what a real Bugatti is like. At 5:21 you can see a blue Bugatti Atlantic in the background. I'd like to see an episode on that car. I know Ralf Lauren has one too. Thanks.
Orgullo Argentino!!
As a kid in Sparks Nv working on the Oppio ranch in the corn fields my brother and I used to see Bill Harrah of Harrah's club fame, driving his type 37 Bugatti on Glendale Avenue just outside the Harrah's Automobile Museum. Bill would get turned onto Glendale then floor the Bugatti and scream through all four gears. The car was amazing to watch disappear rapidly down Glendale. Being Bill Harrah, he had a body long megaphone exhaust so the scream of that motor could be heard for quite a ways. He had a little temporary license holder on the rear and that was about it. I heard that he favored that car to drive and he used to drive it regularly. Always floored. Stress relief I guess.
I went to his museum in the 70's it was overwhelming , building after building of cars, remarkable!
The original Jay Leno Garage, he assembled a group of restorers to tend to his vast stable
amazing company,keeping history alive
The sound, the looks, those modern-looking wheels! Amazing!
God, I love those rims. They're so old, yet so modern.
Pure art
The most beautiful sounding and looking car I have ever seen
Can you imagine how advanced this car was in the late 20's
Electric cars and hybrids will never never EVER be a substitute for this car
It gives me goose bumps just seeing it in motion
Respect to the Argentinian manufacturers for creating such a Perfect replica
As Jay said it might as well be an original
My god that sound is fire!!!🔥🔥🔥🤙🤙🤙
That was hands down the best test drive I’ve ever seen! Looks like the best car in the world to drive and with the photography and editing I got as close as I ever will to get to being in one myself. When Jay compared it to the model T of the same time period it blew me away.
Oh god that sound.....
Yeeaah!
Wonderful!
Simply magic and hats off to pur sang for making all this possible!
Man it sounds so cool!
How exhilarating to see and hear that racing car go through its paces! Thanks Jay for giving us all these videos of your gorgeous cars and other contraptions! Cheers from Texas.
Cool car! Listen to that sound...
That car was truly amazing when it was built in 1927. It does look like a death trap though I wouldn't want to crash it doing 60 mph.
It's really no different than riding a motorcycle on a public road. Jay is a lifelong biker. If you don't want to die, you just make damn sure that you are always paying attention.
I love old cars and trucks. A driver's car. No computers. Loud enough you can't here the cell phone to answer it. No ps on hc ac power anything. I need a better word for Gorgeous. So this car is simple elegance.
Jerry Kinnin it really is breath taking. It’s stunning.
I first fell in love with the type 35 in high school, after seeing a spread in I think it was road and track. That car is awesome it makes all the right sounds, and the cost is surprisingly reasonable for what your getting. I would hesitate to call it a replica, because as you said, its kind of a dirty word. I will call it a Nugatti! Incredible car.
Jay Leno should host Top Gear.
Pretty sure he actually was a guest on one of the shows. I watch the american version, but I believe he was on the main one.
He did a lap in a reasonably priced car, got on with Jeremy Clarkson quite well.
Look up his 27 Litre Bentley. They did a crossover.
I disagree. He's not funny. He's too used to doing interviews, everytime some comes along theres almost no natural conversation.
@@Aristocrafied
I agree. I enjoy his shows but not him personally. He has this robotic, impersonal way about him and doesn't appear to take any interest in the person or what they have to say, but rather seems to want to confirm his initial bits of info to look well informed. Still a fairly good choice for Top Gear presenter, as even Clarkson was a bit of a CLINT , but made interesting segments.
Perfectly beautiful body proportions and that sound of the supercharger. This IS car heaven.
Looks more fun then a Veyron or Chiron for sure.
Horsepower to weight ratio is close to that of a modern Mustang GT or Camaro SS. It's a time machine, a handmade reproduction of every nut, bolt and piston. Jay loves it so much he says "my shoes are melting, but that's ok... let's take it up on the freeway!"
Amazing car. I want one.
This is amazing when it comes right down to it is a genuine Bugatti from the first piece of it made to the finished product. They essentially moved the factory to Argentina and restarted production it's that simple. I want to build all those wire spoked wheels. I'm fastened by them was also expecting that the type 35 would have been origenally equipped with them . I has to be an amazing driving experience. Sure would be fun to have just one day in the seat . Definitely would never forget it. Thanks Jay
180hp and ~1800lbs. I bet it feels quick.
It didn't have 180HP.
That was the Type 51.
The Type 35 had an average of 125 HP.
Nevertheless, I agree, it had to have felt like it was quick.
Johannes LaCroix
This isn't an original Type 35. The guy from Pur Sang said this car makes around 180hp.
fromkentucky Oh, sorry. Didn't know which one you were talking about.
I think it was pretty safe to assume he was talking about the actual, specific car that is the main focus of this entire video, lol.
He said this one had a modified firing order so it's 170-180.
Is it just me, or is that easily in the top five best-sounding cars if all time?? Holy Toledo!!!
BUGATTI ARGENTINA !!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 FANTASTIC !!! 🇦🇷
That's Pur Sang Argentina. Don't forget, it isn't a real Bugatti.
Incredible series, this 'Jay Leno's Garage'.
And thanks to internet I am watching this in Holland (Europe) as many times as I Like in HD-quality.
This is terrific! Thanks very much.
I get that its not the real deal but that doesnt stop me. 250k is a fucking bargain. how do I get one
Uh, contact Pur Sang?
Carson Schalk I think 100k would be a bargain.
second hand might be in that ballpark
Whenever I think of a classic racing car, this is the kind that comes to mind. What a gorgeous automobile.
Justin: Any modern gasoline is way better than pre-war fuel. The octane rating of road fuel was something like 73. Normal avgas was 80/87. (80 lean, 87 rich). Even a racing fuel from then would probably ping horribly in a modern engine.
They ran Methanol, mostly..
Cooler burning!
No knocking...
Germans added aromatic spirits
Xzylol, Tolulol, tolulene, MEK and such..
Not ethyl lead!
Howard Hughes tried jars of THAT..
From the inventor, Kettering..

For his HR-1 racer...

Your both wrong pre war fuel was benzine 115 octane. The same bikes lost lap time after the war Isle of Mann TT. The pre war benzine fuel stock piles were made into Napalm. Fact Check it.
Saludos desde Paraná Argentina!!
God damn, driving that looks fun
