"No... you're shmoopy!" LOVE THE REFERENCE! Dude, you make the most helpful videos I've ever used. Thanks so much for doing what you do -- most sincerely appreciate it!
I love this video, in my opinion it sets up a standard for tutorial videos: funny, thorough and focusing and repeating all the necessary stuff still without treating you like a dummy. Thx this series is a Xmas 🎁 for me after returning to recording with a 20 year gap ... Thx again keep it up with these videos
Been in live bands for years… Just to say… bought Studio One to ‘do some stuff’ with a mate.. didn’t do it. Hadn’t touched it.. never used it. Followed your tutorial on a basic drum loop and actually got something saved!! Your method is superb… just got to work out the next step of how to add some sort of keyboard etc.😂 I have subscribed so will be searching. Owen UK
I watched this on 1.5x...the part where you talked about maybe waking and being hyperactive that day was hilarious. All Comedy aside, it was a very helpful video. Thank you, Joe!
Joe, Love being entertained along with actually learning something since you don't talk like you're running out of time. I'm a Studio One novice and everything you said to do, actually worked from beginning to end which usually doesn't happen with me!
I needed this tutorial. When I brought up impact in the past I couldn't figure out how to get the sound into my project. I got it now!! Thank you Joe!!
Thanks Joe! You always know how to make a average "JOE" feel better...Because of this video I now feel like I can open up Studio One and actually create a song or a project without feeling "looppy shmoopy". Thanks Joe.
You made my day! Thank you! Love your sense of humor. I think my neighbors heard me laugh a few times. I'm a Cubase guy but, I'm helping a buddy out (who has Studio One). Your video made me want to dump Cubase and start using Studio one. I'll be sending my friend to your channel. Take care!
Oh my golly gosh, how I've missed you Joe! I've not made any music for ages and am just getting back into making something, so first of all I had a Studio One 5 upgrade to take care of and here we are. So you're official with PreSonus now? Congrats dude. Your teaching style is second to none and your cheeky, witty style is so engaging. So nice to see you again!
Joe, you had way too much fun making this video!🤣 Also, I just learned recently you can click tempo and drag up and down to alter the speed. Makes it easy to match tempo in real time! Love Studio One!
Very helpful! I had no idea about the drum sequencer at the bottom. Shared this vid with my son who owns an ATOM. I personally use my Maschine MK3 for my drums.
omg. watched this first thing in the morning. you had me in tears (laughter) and hopefully set the mood for my day as well as teaching me something. thanks joe!
I saw you for the first time, but not the last time. You have a very inspiring way of bringing technical information to people. Great + thanks PS: Do you also have tips for the artist versions or can you please mark which versions your really good tricks are for? Thank you in advance. Ralph
Thank you Joe ! Even though we have different tastes in genre's of music your Knowledge of Studio One is Amazing !! I'd pay good money to hangout with you for a few hours a day just to pick your brain. I can only imagine how much better my workflow would become ! Thank you again !
I figured all this out on my own one day and then promptly forgot how I did it! Ty for making this and saving me all the frustration of figuring it out again!
You can skip the 'Convert part to pattern' option by using ALT + double click. This creates a pattern instantly. I assume on a Mac this is Option + double click.
thank you so much the option wasnt visible in the demo version but this shortcut works. im still on the fence on if im getting studio one over flstudio.
@@delicrux There are too many variables. Use whatever you feel comfortable with the most at the moment, eventually you’ll own both of them. You’re already on step one of the DAW hoarding journey, we all face it at some point.
@@yeahyeah3206 trust me i was there 10 years ago. Flstudio 4 cubase reaper sonar reason. Now I have ableton bitwig ableton renoise. Im not a fan of ableton renoise is great but has a huge learning curve bitwig is great for analog style synthesis and sound design has a learning curve and some issues with getting input from mics and guitars. S1 looks solid but its taking me a while to get a decent workflow compared to flstudio 5 in my past.
Good video. Studio one is intense. I’ve used GarageBand for a while and this is like graduating to a new level. Thanks for helping clear up the overwhelm. 'YOU’RE schmoopy!'
This pattern view is what made me go wow,now studio one got both the FL studio channel rack and Cubase drum editor combine the daw just won me over ❤❤❤
Thanks. I needed exactly this and will watch again as suggested. Your style is effective, creates learning links in my brain, and is also fun and relatable.
Thanks Joe, this is very helpful. Can you please do a Part II to this video? What I would be interested to see is how to work with the drum pattern mode for a full song with beat variations, different beats for verses, pre-choruses, choruses, fills, etc. Is it even practical to use pattern mode like this? How can you use pattern mode for many variations within a song so it's not the same pettern repeatedly? Thanks again!
And as a quick follow-up, Patterns are incredibly powerful in Studio 1. You can create and save dozens of variations to a pattern, and can have multiple sets of patterns/variations per instrument set. Swapping between variations is insanely simple after you've created them.
I was wondering how to do just this and a friend sent me a link to another guys UA-cam. The screen capture was all blurry and he had the cart way ahead of the horse. He had all of the drum tracks laid out and didn't explain how to get them there. And he went racing around the interface without showing, as you did, alternative keystrokes, buttons. You also went back and did things twice sometimes. Thank you! Now I can go and lay down some bass tracks etc. with ease. and yes, I have created a template from this simple drum loop. Thanks for that as well.
I'm so very grateful to you for making this.. I have looked everywhere trying to figure out how to use impact. I never seen anything this simple or how to use this method. I kept trying to use my keyboard as a pad, which worked but after recording anything I'd hit stop and the recording would disappear?? Still don't know why that happens. But now I see a way to do it from start to finish. Thank you
Thanks for the great videos, Joe. You have an awesome, easy to understand and very humorous way of presenting the material. Thanks for going back and reviewing a process step each time. It helps to see it twice, once to understand WHAT you are doing, the 2nd time to retain HOW. Bravo, Sir! Subscribed.
also if you click look in the bottom left under all the instrument names, you’ll see a mountain lookin icon ( to the left of the + and - ) that allows you to change the velocity and all that other stuff
How can I add multiple loop patterns in one song? For example my verse and chorus have different patterns and maybe at the last beat I can add some fillins. Thanks.
Hi Joe I enjoyed learning your tutorial videos. This is the video's what I really expected to learn from you. I learnt a lot and at the same time it's really funny for me. Thankyou very very much sir.
Great video !!! I learned better what I had already seen the other day in another video. It should be added that you can also create VARIATIONS of the pattern by accessing the inspector of the pattern itself. And then for example to have loops for the basic rhythm and loops with cuts that are then positioned where we want in the track through the usual methods of cutting and pasting, etc.
Thanks for making this video Joe it was very helpful and appeared in my UA-cam feed just when I needed it. I plan on creating a few "Drum Loop Templates" ranging from a straight to slightly syncopated. Studio One can be overwhelming when a person is first starting, videos like yours take some of the steepness out of our learning curve. Oh, and thanks for demystifying the Tap Tempo feature. Aces to you.
Not only is this great information...or education....um shmootification? (I really don't know what that means lol) but you make it fun too. Very awesome 👌 Thanks!
Hey Joe! Love your videos very much. HOWEVER, I came across an issue that I want to address. I was using the "Retro Kit" from Impact, and as I was tracking a drum part, I notice that the "Hi Hat 2" part is actually being played in the SNARE mix channel instead of the Hi Hat channel. Is there any possible way for me to fix this issue? Or is this just preset from Impact?
Im working on the PC version, and I don’t understand how you got the drums to loop. I turned on the loop at the bottom but it doesn’t repeat. Please help :(

Jo..entertaining and educational at the same time. It made Impact. Thanks!🎼
Schmoopy is from that Paul Reiser show 20yrs ago - my wife and I loved that!
Thank you. It took 4 attempts watching other videos to understand where to click the allow buttons to get sounds from the Impact drums.
Why will it not lengthen the drum pattern when I grab and drag It to the right? Drum loop won't extend. What am I doing wrong?
Just what I needed, Joe! Many thanks
Excellent tutorial! Very easy to follow.
This guy made me love studio one ❤
Great vid, thanks so much. I'll remember you when I'm famous.
Thank you for explaining this thoroughly!

This is great. Can I play the parts in with an electric drum kit?
Thanks for a great video Joe. You can also use the '/ ' button to turn the loop on as well.
Best tutorial ever.
Thank you Joanna I knew about this before but you made it look so simple so I will try it again especially when you can create additional patterns
