I own a fair amount of western style guns, including shotguns and rifles, but have never had the opportunity for a shootable 8. I saw one at a local gun shop, but the gunsmith said the walls of the barrel were no longer safe. Sad day.
@@grizzlyblackpowder1960 I inherited these guns from my Grand Dad, he collected all kinds of guns in 1910's, 20's and 30's. I also inherited 2-6ga doubles as well as a couple of 4 and 2 bore stopping guns. Grand Dads guns are in beautiful condition but, seldom fired due to their age and rarity.
Thanks for sharing. I had no idea Brownells was involved in this activity. The more I learn about and experience your online and especially stopping in your Grinnell store the more I consider Brownells a national treasure👍🏻. Thank you for what you do.
Nice. Been trying to find this darn movie but didn't remember the name. All I could remember was the 8 gauge shotgun - so, a quick search and boom! Thanks!
-Ford ranch south of Santa Fe. Worked 'background as 'Carpenter' building Ed's house + Bragg Saloon and street scenes. After final wrap for my 'background, [cold night btw], Viggo showed me the gun, describing the 12 ga cartridge. Sound through streets when fired, was akin to an M-80 in a large pipe..
Dang. grew up in eastern Washington. Our family didn't have an 8 gauge, but I've held a couple back in the early 80's. my favorite was my .22/.410 over under. circa 1940s? not sure. Great for a young hunter.
Modern Shotgun and ammo technology not enough to create a stable 8 gauge shotgun. Who knows how many years it would take to create a replica of the UNSC M45 shotgun with a 5 or 6 shells to be approved in mass production and military use. (The game 12 shell is impossible)

between 2 to 2.5oz of payload in a 8 ga , Eley loaded theirs at 2ozs . RST is developing 8 ga ammo hopefully it will be on the market later this year .
@@clacoca1807 I'm sure at least 12-14 .27 pellets or b•b's. Is triple ot (000) about a .32 cal.? I Didn't even know they made 000, but apparently they do, at least for .410 shells.
@@thatsjustmyopinionhowabout122 You can fit 18 00 pellets easily in a 8 ga shell they are 3 1/4". 18 00 is 2 1/4 oz iirc which you can find in 12 ga and 10 ga 3.5" . The problem with loading smaller gauges like the 12 that long and heavy is it causes the shot to deform against each other when fired . They make 0000 buck as well which is .380 caliber you can load I have seen this in 10 ga . See going to a bigger bore in a shotgun gives larger shot sizes more space so they don't deform as much upon firing . I know a couple guys who own and hunt with 8 ga double barrels . Cant use them for waterfowl but they can be used in some places for Turkey , coyote , pheasants etc . Cheapest 8 gauge youll find is called a Davenport 8 gauge . They pop up sometimes for around 1500$ .
Appaloosa had some great gun fights, very underrated film imo
INuniform I liked seeing them topping off their pistols right after a gunfight.
The stance at the end is class
Ed Harris had some great one liners also....from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠🇺🇸p.s stay safe
Yeah it was a good looking fun movie
👍
I loved Viggo’s character in this film. This was also another great book series from Robert B. Parker ( Spencer for Hire, Jess Stone).
I own 4 8 gauge shotguns. A single barrel Davenport, 2 Greener doubles and a Parker double.
2 Greener doubles for each hand🤠

Thank you so much!
I really enjoy your "vault" videos, thanks guys.
Thank you!!
You mean he didn't really blow people away with an 8-guage? He blew people away with a 12-guage? Aww man!
Great film, great books.
Ed Harris is a damned good actor. He also did a modern Western called Frontera, which I thoroughly enjoyed. He is under rated IMO.
Great movie. Thanks guys!
I haven't seen it but I've seen it on some streaming services and sounds like a great movie from what you have said. Will watch I when I get a chance.

Brownells, Inc. which is bigger and smaller than 10 gauge 8 gauge or 12 gauge?
The smaller the gauge number, the larger the bore size. So 8 gauge is bigger than 10 gauge is bigger than 12 gauge.

Love to have.the blueprints for this shotgun ❤
The one thing I couldn't get over was how small the forend looks compared to the barrels.

Halo, 8 Guage shotgun
I know right? How hard is it to build an 8ga pump shotgun with the mag tube above the barrel? :/ I cant find it anywhere though :_(

Yoshiki Haro the in universe explanation for 12 shells is that it has 2 tubes even though you can’t see the second

came here for this
Nice..... master of illusion. Apaloosa!? Will have 2watch it
You should. I'm watching it right now. Ed and Viggo are great, pretty reminiscent of Duvall and Costner in Open Range.
Great film!!!
A 12 ga. holds 9 double 00 bb's, 00 is .27 cal. How many more could you have in an 8 ga.?
Anyone know a formula to figure that out?

The 00 is .32 000 is .36 a 12ga 3 1/2 and a 10ga hold 18 00 buckshot. So the 8 probably be at least 30 00bs. I would guess maybe more.
The western period shotguns in 8ga are 2 5/8" 3 1/4" is the modern load..
Who is the maker of the 12 ga that you used as a base for the 8ga?
It's a copy of a colt 1878, any repop of that model will do.
Most likely a Rossi.
Cannot imagine the kick in that 8 gauge.
All depends on the mass of the shot😊
I watch that film at the moment, on comercial break I look for 8 gauge on youtube.😀😃
Doomguy: "heavy breathing"
Cool.
Can that took dow the hippo?
Clever
Its the super shotgun!
good movie
Magic
my guy sounds like kermit
Viggo Mortensen shotgun
What gauge is a puntgun? I don't know.
2 Gauge I think
4 bore.
Aren't 8-gauge shotguns illegal?
To hunt federal birds yes. To own and shoot no there fine.
Looks like it was built on a Rossi overland ..
THATS A GUN !!!!!!!😣😔😂a Limey g
LOL like a 12 gauge wouldn't get it done! 8 gauge is more cool though.
this video is no good because an 8 gauge is not used to blow anyones sac off
Disappointed
This is so disappointing....
