Great video. My '79 C20 locked up just this morning. Had to pull the Alternator wire to shut down the truck. Watched your video and off to O'Reily's I went. All fixed now!
The removal chapter was very useful for my dad and I in installing a new steering wheel in his '84 chevy. We had to look at another video to figure out where the c clip was supposed to fit- hopefully we were right in wedging it on the part of the rod the green part sits on 😅 Thank you for sharing!
A very good video. You saved me a lot of grief with pointing out the last screw you took out which locked in the cylinder. I've have more attachments on my system than I have seen on any other videos. So the last screw is somewhat blocked,. Will pull it all the way out and that should release the cylinder.
Thank you for that advice other videos said you had to turn the key but I'm replacing the cylinder because I lost the key that's good you did it without turning it I will give it a shot hopefully it'll work
On my 87 Chevy, it wasn't that easy. Even though my ignition barrel was stuck like yours and wouldn't turn at all, it was not the ignition barrel and key that needed replacing. It was much deeper into the ignition assembly than that. If you pull that cover off where the ignition barrel and all is you will see what I'm talking about. It's a lever that goes through the column and connects to a little plastic gear that rides on a metal lever that has grooves in it. Well, that has a spring on it and the spring dislodged and went in front of the gear. I went to fix it and I got the spring back into place and it still wouldn't turn. I dug deeper into it and discovered that the metal lever that connects to the second metal lever that down further into the column which is the second section of the column that is underneath the speedometer cluster, the section that's right underneath the dash also has a second lever that the first lever next to that goes up to the base of the column. Well, that leader was bent and was not connected to the other lever anymore. So now I have to take a screwdriver in there had to break open that piece of the column just so I could start it up. I wish mine was as easy as replacing an ignition switch. Now I'm looking at having to replace the entire column possibly.
Just a great well planned and thought out How To Video.. Very well done straight forward no b.s like some do here, hey look here's my dog spot, we had a little rain last night, Baba baba ba ba baba ba. Thank you Dave
Thanks for this video! It was pretty similar on my 1980 Chevy Malibu, couldn't have done it that efficiently without this video, even though the new ignition lock came with instructions.
The reason they recommend you have it in the run position is so the tang retracts on the ignition to accept the ignition buzzer. Yours is missing. At 5:55 in the video you remove the ignition from the box. You can see the black tang to the far left on the new lock cylinder.
Taking apart the whole non tilt column is the biggest bear. I think the tilt column is easier than a non tilt. The little plastic gear that meshes with the ignition cylinder strips on on those non tilts. If you want buttery smooth ignition movement, put a small but of grease one ignition switch where it slides. Mine was getting a little stiff. New they are loaded with grease but it breaks down.
I already put everything back together but forgot to put the big plastic cover back on. Do I need to have it? Damn sure don’t feel like pulling the steering wheel back off lol
I guess im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Salvador Ronald Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
hi rich.i charged my automatic transmission fluid on my saturn s series yesterday. new spin on filter..put proper same amount of fluid back in.but now my car makes a whining noise in first gear. after that it's ok.what is going on ! verylter frustrating.maybe I put too much in .not enough? maybe a defective filter..also it's hard to get a accurate reading on the stick.car is level and in park idling normal operating temp..any help would be appreciated thank you
So my truck won’t start like nothing comes on that’s supposed to when you turn the key no seatbelt light the starter won’t turn over and I’ve checked grounds got a new battery and replaced the ignition switch and still nothing could it be the ignition cylinder or should I look at the starter
Please someone answer this question I'm having the same problem in my 78 Sierra heavy half no electrical at all and I replaced the ignition switch and battery is newly bought when I got er running again....I just got everything running cherry and this bs happens....did u ever get it figured out?
Also how doe the lock cylinder gets hard to turn over? I have recently changed mine and now the new one is hard to turn over the motor. I have to use a pliers to turn the engine over.

Did your lock cylinder stay on start?
I got a 74. Started it and it got stuck. Kept cranking. Changed the ignition switch still gets stuck.

Awesome thanks, where did you get the lock cylinder?
Everything works
Just as you showed..... Awesome...Work Thanks for the education
Will this work on a 90 suburban?? I inherited one but the only key missing is the ignition key... And I need to get it started to move it.
This was SO helpful! Thank you so much for posting and saving me heaps of time🤙🏾🤙🏾
I already put everything back together but forgot to put the big plastic cover back on. Do I need to have it? Damn sure don’t feel like pulling the steering wheel back off lol
Thanks! If the lock pin is jammed, Can you just keep that pin out and keep the same cylinder?
I guess im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account??

Where did u get that sir clip remover
also I used the magnet on the filter.ive heard that this can restrict flow.unless it's a oem filter. hopefully I haven't damaged my transmission
Yes i believe the magnet can only be used with the oem filter.
Do u think I damaged anything
richpin06a do u think I damaged anything
@@danpettis1675 yes

I take it the key cylinder locked up on you ? And that’s the reason for changing it ?
Are all the model from 73 to 88 the same? I have a couple culums and wireimg look the same but different color
اللهم صل وسلم وبارك على عبدك ورسولك محمدﷺ

So a steering wheel pulling tool isn't necessary?
Will this work for my 80 Malibu ignition
Very helpful, thanks
Lost my keys to a 77 chevy P30 truck. You think it'll work?
Yes
So my truck won’t start like nothing comes on that’s supposed to when you turn the key no seatbelt light the starter won’t turn over and I’ve checked grounds got a new battery and replaced the ignition switch and still nothing could it be the ignition cylinder or should I look at the starter

Sami Martinez just look up 78 Chevy wire junction to see what it looks like if your confused and let me know if that was it
Good info. Thanks.
You bet
Also how doe the lock cylinder gets hard to turn over? I have recently changed mine and now the new one is hard to turn over the motor. I have to use a pliers to turn the engine over.
Sounds like wrong sticch or mounted in wrong position. It should always turn easily.
My truck is locking me out with the steering lock like the pin is worn out or hanging up
Does a 1979 chevy c10 big 10 Bonanza have a OBD I port?
I believe GM implemented OBD 1 in California vehicles for the 1980 model year, and the rest of the United States in 1981
Thats ALL there is you say LOL :D
Somehow i dont think they wanted you to remove the barrel, just a feeling LOL :-D
Why did they have to hide that pin that holds in the cylinder i would like to know.
My 78 is like this one
Mechanic was charging me 275 dollars but with parts to do this job
Where do I get a compressor
Amazon has them at about $16
gotta put it back together?!?!? ha!
