A very simple, straight-forward and enjoyable Top 10 review, Tom - thanks... And, out of ALL of the reviews I've seen of the iD. Buzz this last week, you are the ONLY presenter that's shown the charge port open with the sliding door... how thoroughly professional of you, chuck...! 😎
The question is who is this van built for? Not a people carrier, no full middle seat. Not good for families with more than 2 kids (missing isofix in the middle). And families with less than 2 kids don't need this kind of van. Not for long road trips, I imagine it excels in the city. Expensive. To be fair all Multivans are expensive, but at least they were practical. So this is for..?
@@tomxaak yeah because everybody has triplets and need isofix on all seats of the car at the same time... To be fair, the range is the only thing that would hold me back from buying it (if I would have the money laying around). I now own a Kia e niro and that has just a bigger range by 22 miles on paper, but we know it has excellent range in real life and not just on paper. This makes it better to driver longer distances (which is useful for me, I don't use the car everyday but from now and then have to drive 300km), but you can't bring a lot of stuff with it. This buzz has an epic storage space, looks great and it can do vehicle to grid/home. But to bring it on holiday would mean you are often stopping to charge, because from that 260 mile range you will not have a lot left if you would driver it at higher speeds. But definitely interesting and definitely good for families in terms of seating and size, so I can imagine this for families that are environmentally aware who have the patience to bring it on holidays.
Up the battery to over 300 miles minimum, bring the camper version to market, and I'll opt for one. I also like that the binnacle is mounted on the steering column so that it's visible no matter where you position the wheel -a much better, more familiar, safer idea than a "yoke."
I haven't really been a fan of exterior styling on VW's electric offerings but I like their interiors. This vehicle combines both - looks mint in and out. Put V2L on this and the potential's great
I love everything about this bus, except for the lack of stow and go seating for the middle row. I understand that the battery now assumes this space, but it sucks nonetheless. I hear the US model is also going to come with a 3rd row. Do we know if the middle or 3rd rows will be removeable at all?
I was so eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Buzz. Partly because its retro-meets-future character. Absolutely brilliant. But mainly because of the seat configuration shown in the concept version. It had me salivating. That kind of nowhere to be found versatility made the Buzz an instant classic in my book. Turns out, the Buzz was merely that, a temporary and unsubstantiated buzz. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed with a car.
??? Like Anything you will produce with Green Energy...even an ICE could be produced Carbon neutral, if you are really interested in doing it with Solar and Wind power.
That just looks fab. It was really hard to tell from the 'rainbow' ones, what the details were ike, but this is new, yet familiar at the same time. Given that 15yr old tarted up T5s sell for up to £30k, this will sell like hot cakes.
Nice review. Sad that this Buzz is pricing itself out of reach for 99.999% of the people. Better wait for the Xbus developement. Totally modular, 9 versions and with solar panels. Xbus will be on the road in 2023 and with a starting price around €18.000 about 1/3 of the price of the Buzzzzzzz.
neither, really. Not allowed to drive it, so was just looking at the car - I'm interested to see if the multimedia is a crap as in the early ID3s, and if it stands up to driving with regards to real-world range etc.
Wow. Accidently came across this in the Sunday Times colour supplement. Always had VW's in the Gti form as at present. 75 next birthday and am seriously think about this machine as my conversion to electric. Camper van would be good as it could then cover all bases...as long as it doesnt loose the sharpness that this wagon does.
I love it! would drive this over any SUV! but that part of being delivered carbon neutral.....yeah....right ..... sorry, but I reserve my right to be doubtful on that.
its a bit meh and generic compared with the original concept, but nice nontheless. its a shame that the more configurable back seats didn't make it to the finish line though.
@@speak_your_truth. it started out as something that felt extremely configurable, that had a lot of individual and quirky features in the concept phase. Now, through development, it seems much closer to any other people carrier. It's a nice people carrier, but that's what it is.
@@speak_your_truth. yes, which was expressed in the comment that you replied to. It has become far less interesting to me through its development that's all. It started off as an attempt to replicate a lot of what made the T1 and T2 so desirable whilst embracing more contemporary trends... Then they ended up with a generic people carrier. I didn't deny that's what happens when a product is developed over several years, whilst being focus grouped into oblivion. I just think it's a shame. Maybe, the liner wheel base model will bring back some of the more interesting features, but I doubt it.
Awesome review. I'm just sad cause the colorgrading of your show i= none. It look straight out of my sony A73 camera without any touch up. It's fade and cold. The skin doesn't look good. The yellow of the truck is off. Please add a bit of contrast, warm and saturation. It will be awesome. ;) Except that. Everything is perfect. I love that new truck. You show us every details we wanted to see. Thanks !
I love the style and the futuristic look of the cabin, however, I don't want an electric vehicle, it hurt my heart when I found out there was no hybrid option.
Wouldn’t there be one with a larger battery. I mean camping and using electricity for other things than driving would mean you would end up fully discharged somewhere in the wildernes.
Love it looks great, well done vw, some times a concept car with all the bells and whistles never materialises as the end car on the road but here it is wow, hope the batteries improve so 300+ can be achieved, 5 years time I may go for one. As at the moment we are very happy with are vw golf and vw up great cars.
Is it usable for families? I see it doesn't have a full middle seat in the back. Does it have ISOFIX there? If not then who is this for? Families would appreciate full seats and ability to install child seats. The older Multivans or the new T7 seem to be the better choice for real use. I love the design and of course the fact it's all electric but I honestly don't know what I'd do with it.. Ford F150 Lightning, ironically, seems to be the better option for families, probably cheaper too.
I wonder how long the cargo space in the Buzz would be without the seats. Presumably similar to the cargo version - which is disappointingly slightly too short for sheets of plywood.
What I'm very interested in about this video is at 3m30s. The ability to run your house. Something I've predicted for a little while. I wonder how that function would affect the lease of pcp and be accommodated into the contract? For example I could comfortably run a 7.5kW electric boiler for my heating , manipulating a cheap overnight tariff and have plenty left for running around. But doing that every day for six months will obviously work the battery more than just average driving
Not sure the lease companies are that sorted on bi-directional charging as yet - but you're dead right; manipulating/manage charging and you could save £. PCP more affected by (currently) high residual prediction. Also, the batteries have a chunky warranty... it's a whole new world!
kWh. And yes, but 200 miles is enough for most use cases, providing the charging curve is good. I have read there will also be a 110kWh version coming.
@@David34981 yeah that would be good on the basis of the ‘real need’ most people have for a larger battery is because the public charging infrastructure still isn’t great, hence the need/desire for a larger battery. If the charging infrastructure had a minimum of 10, 150Kw or greater chargers at every motorway service station, then this would be absolutely fine for me and probably the average person in the UK.
50,000 pounds is 65,000 dollars...I would love to own this car I think it looks amazing and fun to drive but the cost means I never will...Who can afford these EVs
Instead of leaving VW all batteries at (let's say) 70%, I would prefer using them for my own solar battery storage. Indeed why should I give them back for free when I've paid for them?
$65,500usd is mmmmm not cheap. I want the empty van no frills version. Why? Initial cost less. All the frills like motorized sliding doors, electric lights inside, power this and that all suck juice from your batteries and that will reduce my range. This will sell with no problem..... nobody else is offering anything like this. Intelligently designed and built. A car for the future....
yea nobody offering something like this =D because this has 200 miles range which is a joke =D

The rear seat is a joke. Only splited 60:40 in this type of car? The same mistake as it is in Caddy. I can’t understand.

It has bi-directional charging.
I don’t understand why not everyone is ecstatic about sliding doors. I absolutely love sliding doors.
As soon as the ID Buzz was announced, I knew I had to have one. Super excited for the release in the US 😍😍
It's a perfect Taxi. Sliding door on either side, plenty of cargo space for luggage.

Could be far more retro in styling for me ... they have "Dubbed" it down since the initial design ...
The EV version of the iconic Volkswagen Buzz is fantastic! I can wait for this modernized EV van to be on the market!!
All very well but the prototype had removable rear seats
Can't wait to see the camper version
I’m definitely considering this one

Potential U.S. buyer. I don't want a long-wheelbase version: I want THAT.
How can the production of the batteries be carbon neutral?
??? Like Anything you will produce with Green Energy...even an ICE could be produced Carbon neutral, if you are really interested in doing it with Solar and Wind power.
Superb presentation TW what a fantastic vehicle and haircut :)
I love my EV but should I need to buy a new one would without a doubt be a BUZZ. It's simply wonderful.
Very Nice. But the camper is what I want to see!
Welcome back Tom, and what a superb vehicle. I do beliEVe this will be a game changer, especially when the alternate battery options arrive

Totally agree the x-bus is awesome
Xbus?
Who makes the X-Bus ? Same guys who gave us the X-Plane? And if you drive this Bus you’re called X-Men. (Couldn’t resist😝)
I like it but I'd never be able to get one
Ive been waiting on the id 4 wagon but I would consider one of these instead.
Is this a commercial or a review?
neither, really. Not allowed to drive it, so was just looking at the car - I'm interested to see if the multimedia is a crap as in the early ID3s, and if it stands up to driving with regards to real-world range etc.
How fast will it go?
What range at 70mph?
How much does is a full charge cost?
How long do the batteries last?
How much to replace batteries?
The concept payed a better homage to the original not that I hate this one but I definitely like the concept more
The price is OTT and VE is just not right for the UK at the moment.... needs to be a 1.6 hybrid engine.

I like this car because it's hight. It's gonna be very spacious. Best for campers~~
Very cool ! But if this car is electric, why isn't it made with a solar energy source?
It's pretty nice but, Fifty... Thousand... Pounds.
Doesn't feel that long ago when that was high-end Merc money.
I keep saying this, but then look at stuff like Pro Performance ID3 and ID4. I think I'm just old and think everything is too expensive...

How many miles for fully charged 🤔 250 miles so from Vegas to LA need to charge again at Bartow.. Still waiting for Solar power Car 😋

When will it come to the US🥲!!!! I will buy asap 💖
