    I feel like the way they managed to get the peanut butter spread so evenly in the original is by freezing the peanut butter in thin sheets, cutting it into discs, and layering it with frozen jelly as well. Sorta leans into their whole model of "just let it thaw!" too

    I grew up in the 80s with my mom using a Pampered Chef sandwich press to make uncrustables. Virtually any sandwich can be made with it but you need a soft enough bread and your filling needs to not impede the seal. I went through a phase of not eating the crust as a kid and ate every sandwich this way. New England fluffanutters are classic

      after Claire considered microwaving it, I was hoping SOMEONE there was gonna suggest the toaster. Def the best type of Uncrustable.

    Uncrustables began in a side room of the Geske Ice Factory in Fargo. They had a mini assembly line and a machine that stamped off the crust, and at that time were being sold to schools for school meal program. Then in like 1998 they sold the rights to Smuckers and the uncrustables were born.

    I personally love to pop them into the toaster out if the freezer then after it cools a bit dig in! The crunch from the toasted bread is a nice touch and slightly warmed PB & J inside 😊

    Definitely should’ve gone for a Japanese milk bread without egg in the recipe. It would have a lot more elasticity and the right crumb color and texture.

    • @annchovy6
      @annchovy6 Місяць тому

      I make mine with egg whites. I love a snowy crumb.
      Claire didn’t use egg, though.

      @@annchovy6 I realize that she didn’t, but there are a lot of Japanese milk bread recipes that are basically like brioche instead of a true milk bread recipe. I just wanted to note that if anybody else tries Claire’s recipe, a milk bread recipe (without egg) might be a better choice.
