Beginner violinist here... I learned so much from watching Brett's right hand. The lack of tension, the hand framing at different positions, using different finger pad areas for different techniques, so much that cant be easily explained, but in a more dynamic way than a sterile classroom. please do more of these! this can shape the violinists of the future.

    0:05 did you practice?
    0:12 where's your pencil?
    0:20 Eddy saying hi
    0:37 tuning

27:11 Brett touching the sheet music with his forehead because he blind
27:36 Brett's kinda signature pursed lips slight head shake
28:40 Eddy and Brett exchanging stuff
29:42 them vibing to the music/counting
35:36 nods of approval over the solo
46:08 Brett talking to his deskie

    1:11:45 Brett lowkey freaking out
1:12:03 Brett messing up the end

There was this (very fine) principle clarinet player in the Rochester Orchestra & Chorale (Minnesota) who sat immediately in front of me (I was playing 3rd horn at the time) who HATED IT if anyone EVER tossed their pencil onto their music stand anywhere in his vicinity, but that was particularly true for me, with my stand only inches from the back of his head. I totally get it. The desk of the Manhasset stand acts like an amplifier, and even a tiny pencil creates a sudden & rather loud metallic noise when someone, after scratching some frantic notes in the music, hurriedly tosses their pencil down before their next entrance. Many years later I'm still rather careful about it. When Brett drops is pencil onto his stand (46:15... PLANG!) I immediately thought of that clarinet player. LOL

Great fun you two. I’ve played this many times but as a viola player. Interesting being in the violins instead. I was in the SSO probably before you were both born, I left in 90, I was associate principal viola there then in the BBC symphony . The SSO used to do this very well. Also in one of the BBC tours to Japan we played the adagietto as an encore every night. Meanwhile the rest of the orchestra, apart from the strings and harp , were already in the pub. Keep up the great work guys.

    TwoSet fullfilling so many wishes:
    1) watching serious Eddy play in an orchestra
    2) joining the violin section (voice gang here)
    3) having a deskie
    4) having Brett as my deskie
    5) listening to all of Mahler 5 while being able to see the score and musicians
    6) watching how professional musicians mark the score during rehearsal, and trying to puzzle out what some of the marks mean
    7) Brett offering me the pencil like I know where we are and how to play
    8) Brett showing how to turn pages like a pro (voice gang usually has a least one hand free all the time so we don't need to quickly grab a page)
    9) Brett forgiving me for not turning pages since I'm a noob
    10) watching Eddy practice during rests
The only sad part was I couldn't shake Eddy's hand when he offered it. Does touching the screen count?

Fascinating to see them "at work" and get some idea of what it's like for an individual player in an orchestra. I don't think, based on their published content, that they ever have actually played in the same orchestra. I loved the mix of acting and actual work. My guess is a real rehearsal would involve more stopping for input from the conductor, but this was still great!
