It would be interesting to hear about rocker differences in shortboards. Lower up front with kick in the back vs kick in the nose and lower in the back.
It's the key factor that is almost always overlooked but is probably the most helpful in understanding what works for you...Lower up front/kick in the back = front footed. kick in the nose, lower in the back = backfooted. Xanadu provides a good explanation of this on his site where he categorizes his boards by rocker "families". Sticking to whatever rocker feels most natural is probably the best thing for someone's surfing because you're going to develop muscle memory based on that sort of rocker. Not to mention you're going to spend less time/money fooling around with boards that don't work well for you. If you understand how the basic types of rocker are balanced and what rocker you tend to prefer you can narrow down your board choices much easier and communicate with your shaper much better. The rocker is a lot of the equation, after that it's much easier to have a good idea how the rest of the design features on the board are going to work.
Last board I customised came out super weird. Rails where way to thick so had to get rid of it. Not the first time a custom board gets completly off. No more custom hp shortboards, gonna go stock dims from now on.

I only rode the NB3 at the pool so far. The Round tail felt great... it offers more hold and smoother rail to rail. The chop tail does pivot faster... more testing needed.
My 5’7” Two Happy is within the guidelines in width and thickness. The stock 5’10” x 18 5/8 x 2 5/16 (26.7L) and my 5’7” x 18 7/8 x 2 3/8 (26.5L) keeps the 1/4” in width and 1/16” in thickness to get my volume in my range. I’m within the guidelines.

I could be wrong, but I understood that Britt meant you can vary 1/4 inch in width and 1/8 inch in thickness comparing to a board the same SIZE in stock dims. (Not the same VOLUME in stock dims). Which means: if I want to ride a 5'7, I'd have to play around the measurements of that original stock 5'7. (I shouldn't consider the dims on the 5'10 at all - although that one might have my intended volume). On the CIS website there's no Stock Dims available for a 5'7 TwoHappy. However, assuming the same scale on that stock DIMS guide, a stock 5'7 TwoHappy would probably be 18 1/8 x 2 1/8. This means that your custom 5'7 added about 6/8 in width and 2/8 in thickness to what would be its original design. Does that make sense? Btw, I got stuck on that because I also wanted my TwoHappy to be a 5'7 and am struggling to make it around 25L (which is my ideal volume) without altering so much the original shape...

Hey Noel, I was wondering how a person can tell if they are under or over sized with their dimensions when riding a board (other than the obvious paddling factor) . Ive noticed you would typically ride around 25 litres on lower rockerered small wave epoxys but when it came to a HPSB you go to 26-26.5. I thought a stock 5'9 two happy/happy at 25 litres would be good size for you in waves chest high up? do you go up to 26-26.5 litres just for the extra float and paddle?
A board that’s to small often bogs through rail turns and you loose speed and it’s hard to control…. Meaning it wants to turn to fast or pivot to quickly. A board that’s to big turns slowly, does longer drawn out turns, or feels hard to turn quickly. Another symptom of to much foam is getting stuck at the top of the wave in your top turns. To much foam can make it hard to push down the face of the wave quickly and you can get hung up or go out the back of the wave. I find that my timing is off from turn to turn with too much foam…. I get one good turn, then one bad turn due to the delay of to much foam. A stock Fever at 5’9” 25L will go ok for me volume wise… however I don’t like that much rail line for most So Cal waves. It feels much to long for my likings. I like my HPSB’s at roughly 5’7” and around 26-26.5L
Hi Noel I’m planning a trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua where I’ll hopefully surf near perfect conditions. I was wondering if you would have any suggestions for a snappy fast hp board since I’ll be surfing fast hollow waves like the boom and witches rock.(I’m 5’8 and I’m around 140-145 pounds)
One question, what about the length of the board? I’m short but heavier surfer. Most stock boards are way too long for my volume range. How long can I go shorter? Thank you !
I think on HPSB’s you don’t want to go to thick on the rail to shrink it down. I think ideally a different model like the Weirdo Ripper is ideal. Shorter stock dims and loaded with foam and it goes excellent in 3-7’ surf.
I'm 5'6 173 lbs. I find the rail size that I'm comfortable with and then play with the length and width to get to your volume. My driver 2.0 is 5'10 X 20 X 2.42 29.5L
Hey Joel. I’m 5’10” and roughly 180-185 lbs. I ordered a custom Lost driver 3.0 and mistakenly got it in 33L. My other driver 2.0 is the same dimensions but in 30L. I feel like I can turn quicker on the 30L board but the 33L is much easier to paddle and I still have a lot of fun on it. Do you suggest I sell it and order another but in 29-30L in order to progress my surfing ability. Thanks!
Here are you liter ranges at different skill levels. Use this as a guide Pro/Expert 29-31L Advanced 31-33L Intermediate 34-36L I suggest staying with the 33L to improve your surfing if your intermediate. The 30L is a bit small
Hello, I'm 6'0" and roughly 160 lbs and find that most guys my size/skill level (competitive) are riding boards slightly longer than mine. I found that I like boards in the 25.5-26.5 CL range, but it's hard to find a HP board of this size over 5'9. I want to get the driver 2.0 as my new "main HP board," and was wondering if you think I should get it slightly longer, keeping the same volume, to match my body type or should I keep the height the same (around 5'9).
You should be able to scale the Driver 2.0 up 1-2” in length if you want. Just keep the width the same as a stock 5’9” and maybe mess with the thickness if you need too. You can go down in thickness maybe 1/16” at 5’10” or 5’11” and hit you liter range.

My quiver killer has had its day and a new board is needed can you recommend any other boards you think are better than the quiver killer for a 1 board do all or shall I just buy the same again? I wanna order a custom fever but want to accommodate for how big I’ll be in a few months. I usually ride in the mid 26 to low 27 liter range. What dims would u recommend? Thanks for earlier feedback!
If you want add foam for your growth maybe go up 1/2 a Liter at most 1L. If you go with to much foam then it will be hard to turn quickly and hinder your progress. Maybe try to find a used one and keep the volume sharp so you progress and get a new one later when your not growing so quickly.

so like Britt said 1/4 inch to play with width etc.. my question is my hpsb would be 6’6 due to myself being a “big boy” when you get into those longer dims as opposed to your 5’7, 5’8 etc would there be more room to move outside of the stock dims, because adding 1/2inch width to 6’6 is a lot less than adding 1/2inch width to a 5’8..
Agreed... it’s harder to scale down a custom HPSB and add width and thickness without messing up the design. I feel like when I scaled down a stock Fever 5’10” x 18 5/8 x 2 5/16 (26.5L) to a custom at 5’7” x 19 x 2 3/8 (26.6L). Any wider it would have to much curve in the outline and any thicker and it would be hard to sink the rail in bigger surf. By the way my Custom 5’7” Fever was insane.

@@andrew1321 The shorter custom Fever out performed the longer stock Fever by a mole for me. The wider and thicker Fever felt amazing even in over head surf.
I ordered the wider stock dims and it’s a bit sticky. I ordered the narrow stock dims and I still don’t have the board yet. To be honest the board builders are so busy I’m not sure it’s coming at all. Sorry... my suggestion is get the Rocket Redux with the narrow dims for fun-good waves and maybe the wider dims for small mushy/Groveling waves.

Yes, roughly the same length as Your height for solid intermediate to Pro level surfers in 3-6’ surf
