  • #TheLostKing - In Cinemas Now
    In 2012, having been lost for over 500 years, the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a carpark in Leicester. The search had been orchestrated by an amateur historian, Philippa Langley, whose unrelenting research had been met with incomprehension by her friends and family and with scepticism by experts and academics. THE LOST KING is the life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country's most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England's history.

    A humorous, poignant, lovely film, with superb performances from top to bottom. The Shakespearian device of having Philippa "haunted" by Richard III was a brilliant dollop of leavening. She, literally, changed history by uncovering the truth.

      Truly. And as an American who has never traveled across the pond, I will be very disappointed if there aren't a gazillion more magical stories like this one on their way.

    The true usurper was not King Richard III but the bureaucrats from University of Leicester.
    Sally Hawkins always picks excellent screenplays and her performance as Philippa Langley carries this story to its bitter sweet ending.

    My sister and I are going to see The Lost King tomorrow. I can't wait. This lady responsible for finding his body is my hero. I have defended him for many years. The majority of people have never done any research. They know want Shakespeare wrote. Shakespeare wrote Richard 3rd for Elizabeth 1, daughter Henry 8, son of Henry 7 who was responsible for Richards death at Boswell Field.

    It was no secret where King Richard was buried. The story of his final resting place was common knowledge amongst local villages as far back as the 1930's.

    People often laugh ar womens intuition, but but she had the last laugh. My friend is descended from Richard 3rd, she said they could have got herself and her cousin to give the dna test, she said her cousin even has the hunchback. My friend also has the same colouring as Richard 3rd. She is also the granddaughter of Sir Gilbert of Gilbert and sulivan.

      Say what you want about Richard III but he *never* flooded England with Pakis. That alone makes him a better monarch than the Windsors.

    PS See 'Reel Truth Documentaries' for the Real version & see how silly Langley could be. Also, the skeleton was not found that deep down, clearly it was not a case of "couldn't find" so much as "had not bothered to". Of course, the Ultimate Irony is that Richard is only fascinating Because of Shakespeare's bad ass portrayal of him, the very image that Langley rejects! Silly movie.

      Richard is fascinating because he had the guts to overcome disability and become a superb fighter, was a reliable administrator, interested in scholarship, devoted to great choral music, contributed to King's College Chapel and above all, was deeply concerned with justice for all. The presumption of innocence, on which ALL Western law is based, was brought in by Richard lll. Oh, and he was a faithful husband. Given that Buckingham was in charge of the Tower when the Princes disappeared, and wanted the throne himself, and given that the Richard was miles away at the time, I know what I think.

    An amazing story, but I can’t understand why he was given the pomp and ceremony for his re-burial, when he was responsible for the care of his two nephews one of which was the heir to the throne which he claimed for himself, and in all probability had them murdered for that purpose!

    • @rosemaryallen2128
      @rosemaryallen2128 Рік тому +5

      No one questions the royal burial of kings and queens who are PROVEN to have killed thousands. Henry Vlll - 20,000 souls; Victoria - Irish genocide by denying food aid, etc., etc.

      @@rosemaryallen2128 Back then, you are right….they didn’t, and btw under the rule of Henry VIII it was more like 72,000!
      But I am talking about now NOT 500 years ago, and it is almost certain what Richard did to the children in HIS care, so why should this probable child murderer be given the honor of such a re-internment? Based on the values of today, seems a bit odd don’t you think?
      Queen Victoria was hardly in the same vane of the medieval kings, or wielded the same kind of power to make those kind of decisions! That is just a ridiculous assertion!!!

    • @rosemaryallen2128
      @rosemaryallen2128 Рік тому +5

      @@Tawny6702 If in a court of law, you happened to be innocent, but were convicted on 'ALMOST certain' evidence, I imagine you might complain. As to history, I was erring on the side of caution over Henry. The figure changes with historical fashion. And PM Lord Melbourne DID plead with Victoria to send aid to Ireland, and she adamantly refused. Millions starved to death, and her part in the tragedy has always been hushed up, like the fact that the English invented the concentration camp.

      It has never been proven that Richard III killed his nephews. He had no reason to. They were declared illegitimate and posed no threat to his succession as king. They were, however, a threat to Henry VII whose claim to the throne was tenuous at best. He wanted to marry Elizabeth of York, the boys' sister, in order to connect his claim to the throne with the reign of Edward IV. He needed to undo Richard's declaration of illegitimacy and have Elizabeth declared legitimate again. In doing so, the boys would also then be legitimate and the rightful heirs to the throne. They had to go. It is also important to note that most of the stories linking Richard III to the killing of his nephews were written during the Tudor period by Tudor sympathizers.
