I think what would improve this tutorial is building the tube with dropper first, because usually we already have a farm built and we just need to change sorters, putting the dropper tube first would make building this system a lot less trial and error.
I recommend using note block and observer to start the sorter. Just right click on noteblock to start the machine, easier than placing & breaking a torch.
Played with this thought...if instead of having a dust in that corner you put a solid block, one can then have a sticky piston that is also connected to an observer and a note block. Hit the first note block and the sticky piston places the block into the corner. Hit the second note block and it fires the observer into the block and starts the clock. When you want to turn it off, one would hit the sticky piston note block at the right moment and it pulls the solid block out of the corner, shutting down the clock. works like a charm.
@@NitsuSaiNeko Also found some new work by Rapscallion1138 concerning sorting stacks. It is an upgrade to Chapman's single item clock here that is worth a look. Works in Nether and overworld. It's ice travel and it can sort at 10gt which is super fast. Concept is very similar to Chapmans but the clock is started via a CUD and activator rail. No more manual start/stop.
if your using this to sort items from an overworld iron farm, use an etho hopper clock, as the circuit and or piston can sometimes freeze, up or stay powered
a bunch of items aren't being picked up by the hoppers, but i only have three sorters, one for each item. are the items moving too fast for only three sorters, i.e. should i make multiple sorters for each item? also, does the first hopper covered by honey still pick up items?
If you put a solid block on top of a hopper it stops that hopper from looking up to see if there are items to grab there and it will only look for items to move along inside the chain of hoppers. If your having issues with items not making it into the sorting system that may be why. the ice need to run across in front of hoppers that having nothing on top of them other wise items will not be collected. The hopper will not be looking for items to grab from above
Kickass design. I built this in my survival world and found that if you add 2 more 4-tick repeaters to the bottom of the 'heart' and use a double-speed sorting system, you won't see any items miss their hoppers, even when feeding the system with a max speed dropper. Also, if you want the items to get pushed in from the sorting side instead of the chest side, you can put a 1 block tall chorus plant at the start of the row of ice to position it correctly. A honey block or chest wouldn't quite align the item right.
Is there any way to set up the pistons to start and stop with a lever or something. I'm on a server who will fry me if I leave those pistons running 24/7
I think you can replace the redstone dust on the outside corner with a solid block, then use a sticky piston plus lever to retract the solid block with you want it to stop. (I'll be trying this out in a creative world later today.)
you could use a note block with an observer outputting to the red stone so all you would have to do to start it it hit the note block but you would have to shut it down manually by removing a piece of redstone dus
A more current alternative to the obsidian around the dropper is powdered snow. Place that below the dropper so all the items are spat out into it. It works quite well, and both is easier and looks better in my opinion.
one issue i have been having was when the correct item was pushed it would go into the correct hopper, but not into the chest and stop at the bottom hopper
sounds like that bottom hopper is being locked by a stray piece of redstone, make sure the only hoppers being effected by red stone are the the one fed directly into the comparitor and the one below it otherwise the hopper wont feed
I'm having an issue where after about an hour of running, the slime blocks collide and both stick to one piston. I have no idea why but any ideas on how to fix this?
Apologies for resurrecting an ancient thread, but you can fix this by raising the first piston/slime block up a block so that the items it pushes toward the second piston have to fall a block. This way, the two slime blocks will never share a face.

Hey! I have a gold farm in the nether that produces alot of gold ingots. But the farm is incredibly fast and eventually there is so much excess items that can't either fit into hoppers or an dropper. What can I do to combat this problem? Right now I'm using a normal sorter like this but with only hoppers. But I feel like this video would cause the same problem...
as mentioned all ready if you dont want to use the blue ice and piston methods, hopper mine carts can feed somthing like 20 items a second where hopers only feed 2. if you have the space to run powered rails over your hoppers and let the items being collected be picked up by a hopper mine cart it will run better
I appreciate your design, however in my case, it seems that the piston is too powerful and the first row hoppers cannot catch the items well, the items ended up being shot to the end of the ice, or over the ice
@@HarkHarrior I have same issue too. I think we just need to skip first two hoppers. In my case some items still can get there, but not all. But we can use it in our advantage (put there items wich you whant to split, like cobblestone or netherrack)
Just use a string on one of the ice blocks connected into an observer with a redstone repeater set to four ticks to time the piston on the second, third, fourth, etc etc. It's so much easier
I've tested a similar design myself, and you do have to be careful with that, as timings can be finicky with that, and items can occasionally get stuck, although it is rare
Tried this in the nether with a zombified piglin gold farm, used blue ice, most items flew past the hoppers and went into the sword auto smelter and jammed everything up. Switched back to a line of hoppers, slower but no lost or incorrectly organized items and it’s silent 🤷♂️ love the design though! Wish it worked for me.
sounds like you had an issue with the sorting part of your system double check you have a hopper fed directly into the compairtor it self, you have a stack of 41 of the item your want to sort any more will fall into the sorting system and end up in its chest which is fine but if you have less the stack will build until it hits 41 before it starts depositing into the chest. Make the rest of the slots only have 1 item and that item isnt somthing that the farm generates. 2:01 in the video shows the set up make sure the blue ice runs infront of the hopper that faces into the comparitor and not overtop of it or the items wont feed correctly into the system they need to be caught by that hopper specifically otherwise they will ether fall into random spots or not get caught at all
I love this build BUT I would recommend putting a part in the video to help viewers put this into their builds as I have a farm that I need to sort and its difficult working backwards using your views on the builds. Other then that its great!
headsup, if you dont need all the item sorters, make sure you still leave the couple blocks of ice at the end of the row, otherwise some items will get through... I just finished building a variation f this for my gold farm and I only left 1 block of ice at the end. and well too late to change it I've already built the whole thing basically its clogging the machine as I'm guessing the item sorters don't have enough runway to pick it up before the cobweb does
this is kinda of late but, you can add some space between the two pistons. you might need to use ice in between the obisdian under the slime blocks, but as long as the time of the ticks are the same, it should work
I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU p.s. i used a chest with a hopper minecart delievery system super easy i very much recommend just make a minecart with a chest unloader and connect it with hoppers to the dropper very easy tutorial and 101% earned a new subscriber
considering hoppers with solid blocks dont look foritems I don't see why you couldn't. I even had that same thought actually. I think he just used it to place the ice and to make it look good
On the third row of ice i made for a 3rd sort of items for some reason the slime piston isnt reaching the items but only the first two rows are, are there any fixes for that?
really great idea, unfortunately though i dont recommend if you have a farm with high items/s and play on a server/realm. The pistons end up doing whatever the hell they want to do. Just use a hopper based sorter instead.... Sure it takes a lot of iron but it makes your life 7000x easier comapred to trying to sync up pistons with lag. Im not hating on the build, just not recommending it in the aforementioned scenario.
Some farms are too high output for hoppers to really work. I'm looking through comments to see if anyone has a wiring that separates the piston times a bit more, but otherwise will try and figure it out.
Ok, next to the first piston, add a repeater with 4 tick delay and a block behind the piston to get the signal in. It creates enough delay between each push that the slime doesn't touch.
@@ashleywalker3813 i tried like 30 tick delay between both of them but the realm just didnt manage it. The piston extented and stayed extended until the next signal came in. Just super weird shit. Ended up making a hopper based sorter under each one of the 4 killing chambers and that works well.
Are the hoppers quaranteed to collect all items or should I make multiple sorters for one item if I have a auto guardian farm for example? Since the drops are so high?
Built it, it's awesome. But it seems even with like 5 dedicated hoppers for one item, it's not really working properly. It seems the bug where the hoppers and minecarts can't suck in the proper entity before checking for coinciding entities is still present. So you'd need like 10 hoppers dedicated to one item. This really sucks, it's been an issue since 2020 and still no fix.
I actually couldnt make this sorter work for like a week or two, until i realized that im supposed to use solid blocks instead of black stained glass......Im so mad at myself XD
I have several issues I can't seem to fix. I have an automatic gold farm on the ceiling of the nether, I'm trying to sort the items. Everything is the same. The sticky pistons do their job but then the unsorted blocks get stuck on the honey blocks. So I remove the honey block and replace it with obsidian. Now the items fly right to the end and don't get sucked up by the hoppers. I followed your build exactly, expect there are 2 blocks of ice before the hoppers start. Is there anything else I am missing? It seems like the hoppers don't suck up any of the items :(
@@Pandaxtor Just tried this, the items get pushed by both slime blocks and but don't fly down the ice and just get stuck one block on, where the second chest/honey block is
@@mischa2841 is the ice on a different chunk as the hoppers cuz thats gonna break it - u need the honey blocks/chests so dont use obsidian - try adding those 2 ice blocks at the beginning , if it still doesnt work tell me
Is there any possible way that this item sorter could be upgraded where all of the items do not need to go through 1 single dropper? i am trying to build this into a zombie piglin gold/xp farm and my goal is to have it be as efficient as possible where it is able to save EVERYTHING lol the gold nuggets, gold bars, rotten flesh, and finally even the gold swords which would basically be pushed all the way to the end of the sorter and be ran through blast furnaces in order to get even more gold nuggets. but the issue i am having is that the swords just clog everything up. and the hoppers/dropper is just too slow and what happens is after so long of the farm running it is not able to keep up the the items being dropped. i am melting my brain trying to think of a resolution here lol
hopper minecarts might be able to help collect the items and get them to where they are going faster. adding a second dropper may also help but you will have to modify your drop zone to make sure that any items that drop out to the farm get pushed across the ice
Yea ig theres a way but its complicated and i cant rly explain via just a comment its something with detecting when an item is comming and then with that turning the pistons on
Year old thread, but if others are reading looking for answers - no. The items will just move on to the next spot or burn. This looks like impulsesv design which is fine with overflow.
this didnt work for me on my MP server, for some reason after a while the slime blocks would stick together, so what I did was i put the landing pad and the first piston one block above the launch piston so that they would and could never touch
why does sometimes it shoots it all the way down then other times it only shoots it like 5 blocks down the ice line? how do i fix it to make it shoot down 100% of the time
You can sort ender pearls. If you put in a stack of anything (whether it's 64 or 16), the filters should automatically push the excess through until there's the right amount. If you're curious, though, I believe the amount that will be left for items that stack up to 16 is 10.
make sure your building blocks are solid blocks and not somthing glass. Make sure you have a hopper fed directly into the comparitor it looks goofy but you need that hopper fed into that comparitor or it wont let anything through and make sure the ice runs infront of that hopper thats fed into the comparitor and not on top of it. Sorters also dont do well with items that dont stack and items that only stack to 16 need the item to be sorted at a full stack of 16 in the first slot and then your other items in the rest of the hopper need to be stacks of 4 instead of single items. that sorter also can not be next to anything or a part of any chain of sorters or it wont work
Add a stack of 4 items instead of a stack of 1 to other slots in the hopper a nd make sure that specific sorter doesnt have anything next to it otherwise it wont work and to my knowledge a sorting system cant stort out items that dont stack as the hoppers are locked and wont take an item that doesnt stack. there may be a way around this and I think there is but I cannot remember what it was
why do you have to use obsidian in particular? can't you just use any solid block that doesn't stick to slime? like jack o lanterns, furnaces, glazed terracotta, etc
@@kona7781 thanks, that's my experience, too. I was wondering why the other replier was so adamant. They've responded to practically every comment that obsidian is the only option, which seems bizarre to me without a clear reason...

@@harrisonstrubhart3669 yes it did you put one on top of the chest going directly into it one into the back and one going into the chest below it
I was saying in general lol I had to flip the design and had pusher and honey on wrong side
@@harrisonstrubhart3669 oh ok
I have several issues I can't seem to fix. I have an automatic gold farm on the ceiling of the nether, I'm trying to sort the items. Everything is the same. The sticky pistons do their job but then the unsorted blocks get stuck on the honey blocks. So I remove the honey block and replace it with obsidian. Now the items fly right to the end and don't get sucked up by the hoppers. I followed your build exactly, expect there are 2 blocks of ice before the hoppers start. Is there anything else I am missing? It seems like the hoppers don't suck up any of the items :(
Try using a chest instead of honey. Chest are slightly smaller than a block.
Is there any way to turn off the sticky pistons? I am too lazy to go into settings and turn off that noise any time i use my wither skelly farm.
Yea ig theres a way but its complicated and i cant rly explain via just a comment its something with detecting when an item is comming and then with that turning the pistons on
@@casper1461 yeah i designed a way with strings and observers but the storage was too slow anyways so i just remodeled the entire thing
what happens if the system gets backedup? does the filters break?
Year old thread, but if others are reading looking for answers - no. The items will just move on to the next spot or burn. This looks like impulsesv design which is fine with overflow.
this didnt work for me on my MP server, for some reason after a while the slime blocks would stick together, so what I did was i put the landing pad and the first piston one block above the launch piston so that they would and could never touch
are you able to swap the honey block for an enderchest?
yes you can
Do you have to turn a corner if you dont need to?
No
how do i prevent items from getting stuck on the hoppers? they slide off to the side a bit
Probably just cover the whole row of hoppers with honey blocks or chests
u can also use glazed terracotta instead of obsidian
why does sometimes it shoots it all the way down then other times it only shoots it like 5 blocks down the ice line? how do i fix it to make it shoot down 100% of the time
Op
What do I do if I don’t have honey blocks
Use Chests instead of honey blocks
You can use leaves next to the pistons instead of obsidian...
How much of a stack should we put in for Ender Pearls?
You cant sort enderpearls u need a different design for that
You can sort ender pearls. If you put in a stack of anything (whether it's 64 or 16), the filters should automatically push the excess through until there's the right amount. If you're curious, though, I believe the amount that will be left for items that stack up to 16 is 10.
Statt obsidian kann auch glasierte Keramik genutzt werden
My hopper is not taking the stuffs
make sure your building blocks are solid blocks and not somthing glass. Make sure you have a hopper fed directly into the comparitor it looks goofy but you need that hopper fed into that comparitor or it wont let anything through and make sure the ice runs infront of that hopper thats fed into the comparitor and not on top of it. Sorters also dont do well with items that dont stack and items that only stack to 16 need the item to be sorted at a full stack of 16 in the first slot and then your other items in the rest of the hopper need to be stacks of 4 instead of single items. that sorter also can not be next to anything or a part of any chain of sorters or it wont work
I can't believe I'm saying this but I have your crosshair lol nice video tho
Will this work or bedrock
This sounds so condescending and honestly I love it, I am this stupid
How do u put something in if it only stacks to 16?
Also books & potions?
Add a stack of 4 items instead of a stack of 1 to other slots in the hopper a nd make sure that specific sorter doesnt have anything next to it otherwise it wont work and to my knowledge a sorting system cant stort out items that dont stack as the hoppers are locked and wont take an item that doesnt stack. there may be a way around this and I think there is but I cannot remember what it was
for some reason its clogged!! what do i do?
why do you have to use obsidian in particular? can't you just use any solid block that doesn't stick to slime? like jack o lanterns, furnaces, glazed terracotta, etc
Only obsidian, end portal blocks or bedrock on bedrock edition
But leaves, terracotta and jack'o'lanterns also don't stick to slime blocks on bedrock, so why can't they be used instead? What's the specific reason?
@@phillipaengels2709 No specific reason, my farm works with this as well
@@kona7781 thanks, that's my experience, too. I was wondering why the other replier was so adamant. They've responded to practically every comment that obsidian is the only option, which seems bizarre to me without a clear reason...
I have a sorter for gold nuggets and for some reason the hopper won’t pick up the nuggets.
If the hoppers and ice are on different chunks it wont work, might check that
Works on bedrock?
is it normal ice or packed ice?
Packed ice. Normal ice melts if it's exposed to too much light
Is this Bedrock comaptible
Does this sorter work in the over world plz just respond to this comment instead of making your own that I will have to s arch for.
Its a good design but not for the overworld try to make one with water trust me its gonna be alot easier
My hoppers aren't picking the items up
Leaves = obsidian
Leaves > obsidian
thank you for my life
items wont sort :/ just disappear when pushed by piston
