HE's a GENIUS!!! This is one of my favorite [bossa nova] songs ever. I immediately fell in love with it the first time I heard it. absolutely marvelous!
I remember dancing the bossa nova to this piece back in the 1960's. The music was the saviour of Jazz in the early 1960's because most people could relate to it.
According to Gal Costa, famous Brazillian bossa singer, Jobim sang to her his newly composed most beautiful song sometime before he passed away. Too bad we would never be able to hear it..
Paulinho Braga, if only there was a drummer here in California who understood bossa nova like him and could play like him....This arrangement was written after the release of Wave, the Lp on A&M which hit the states in 1967. The original version from that was played by the great Urbie Green. Will we ever see anything like Jobim again. Thank God for Eliane Elias who is possibly the hier apparent to Jobim. Like Brazil, our streets should run wild with the sounds of bossa nova. May it only grow
I think its almost become standard to incorporate Tide into Wave - the two songs were very similar, and I believe that Tide is in many ways his expanding some of the themes in Wave.
@jpnicolacopoulos KKKKKKKKKK.This is Danilo Cayman..but they look.but they look the same, rsrsrsrssrsr.Greetings from Rio de Janeiro.(sorry my English, it is terrible)
I think her vocal interpretations are some of the best I've heard. Those Brazilanios you mentioned would have a difficult time interpreting Bill Evans. Caeteno Veloso is about the only one you mentioned who surpasses her. Gilberto Gil maybe comes close, Milton Naciemento certainly deserves credit for his bossa nova accomplishments as does the great Joao Donato. Right now she's at the pinacle of capturing the pulse of Brazilian bossa nova and everyone else is lagging behind.
hard to argue with the composer but I thought the tempo was too fast - there is such great harmonies that are missed at that tempo but again how can one argue with the man who created this masterpiece
Try typing in search box "wave antonio carlos jobim montreal" It's live at the Montreal jazz festival. The sound and picture quality are much better and it's basically the same musicians. I should know, I was there !!
