@@bingo1232 Jobim's music is underrated because Muzak ruined the image of the music in a lot of people's minds, so everyone thinks of it as "elevator music" or "doctor's office music" in my case, because I first heard it in my optometrist's office waiting room.

At the young age of 22, a friend and I were walking down 8th St in Manhattan one evening and started up a conversation with a very hip-lookin "cat" carrying an instrument case. We hot it off and he invited us to partake in his lower East Side apt. We did. And he pulled out his tenor sax and started to play for us. We were blown away. It was Joe Hnderson, as it turned out. Young ignoramuses that we were, we had never heard of him and had no idea that he was already a jazz star. Until, that is, we went to our favorite local bar that had a huge juke box full of eclectic music from dance to jazz, and scrolling thru the JB menu, there was his name...Joe Henderson!

I first heard it played by Stan Getz (ts) (with Charlie Byrd on guit, Keter Betts on b, Buddy Deppenschmidt on dr), on his Jazz Samba album back in 1962. And then Getz played another version of it on his Getz/Gilberto album in 1963 with the guitar playing and beautiful voice of Joao Gilberto. Check them out. Love is like a never-ending melody
Always have compared it to a symphony
A symphony conducted by the lighting of the moon
But our song of love is slightly out of tune
Once your kisses raised me to a fever pitch
Now the orchestration doesn't seem so rich
Seems to me you've changed the tune we used to sing
Like the bossa nova, love should swing
We used to harmonize, two souls in perfect time
Now the lyrics and the melody don't even rhyme
For you forgot the melody our hearts would always croon
And so what good's a heart that's slightly out of tune
Tune your heart to mine the way it used to be
Join with me in harmony and sing a song of loving
We've got to be together and before too long
    There'll be no desafinado
When you give your heart to me completely
Then you won't be slightly out of tune
    You'll sing along with me
    There'll be no desafinado
When you give your heart to me completely
You won't be slightly out of tune
    You'll sing along with me

Beautiful english version, but these lyrics do not actually translate the Portuguese, despite being poeric in their own right.
Eu possuo apenas o que Deus me deu
No fundo do peito bate calado

Man, Mr Henderson has an an easiness and flow on his sax, he is one with the instrument. His opening notes leaves no doubt about what is to follow. Di Capo

I was privileged to see Joe Henderson around this same time, the early 1990's, in Atlanta. I had a seat right in front of him, in the front.

Toda sexta-feira eu no violão base, meu sobrinho no violão solo, e minha esposa no vocal, fazemos nosso encontro musical.
