Everhood Eternity is out now!
Scott Pilgrim Takes off runs with the same premise it's other adaptations did before it. Have you ever been so captivated by a person you just met.. so utterly entranced by someone who only just recently wormed their way into your life, that everything felt like lights? That despite there being a plethora of reasons not to pursue that person and everyone you talk to advising against it, you decide to go for it anyway? In this review I explore just how well this series stays true to itself. - Ігри
Why is Scott a Pilgrim though
This is the worst best comment ever
Maybe the real Scott was the Pilgrim we made along the way
It’s Pilgrimin Time!
because Plumtree
Asking the real questions
I found Scott being entirely written out of 70% of the show to bring insane whiplash, but I can't deny it made his comeback all the more exciting! Great show overall.
Apparently what Chau play on the bass is very simple, while it show she has talent it isn’t unreasonable for someone being able to play that in 4 hours
I adored the Anime, it was beautiful, refreshing and a really nice chance to learn about the characters more deeply. I agree that the one episode with the movie set stuff was kinda strange to have in there but it had a lot of nice stuff sprinkled in. This video is super good, thanks for your input on it!!
its not deeper
It's not sprinkley
Its not
It's
Episode 3 triggered me deadass
I think the characters all being pretty awful people is a definitive writing choice. Back when the comics released, they were written specifically for that time period and were relatable characters on a certain level. Nowadays they are a bit harder to relate to but they still have the same problems that people are continuing to have nowadays. They were written as awful people purely to help them improve over time.
Scott and Ramona face their problems head on by dating one another and finding out both of them are just as flawed as each other, and dating each other is the best thing to happen to them as they are exposed to their problems more than ever before
The evil exes go through their personal problems stemming from Ramona and end up having tond of development in the show that help them come to terms with Ramona and moving on with their lives instead of dwelling on Ramona
Knives was obsessive over Scott in previous iterations of the series and would do anything she could to stalk him after he dumped her for Ramona; dating someone like her is already a red flag, but Scott seeped a year out of her life in obsession, before finally moving on. In the show, she was starting to go down that onsession path again, but when she tried to help sex bob-omb at bass, she accidentally found a love for music and a way to cope with Scott being dead before finding out Scott was only lost and not dead, which boosted her new motivation and helped her become a better person.
Kim was much better written in the comics, as she has a lot of personal history with Scott. The story of Scott beating up a rival school gang led by Simon Lee is untrue, Scott bulkied a little kid named Simon Lee to have Kim to himself, only to leave her and not tell her his family was moving to Toronto (they would probably have gotten back together tbh if that weren't the case). Kim still loves Scott but would sooner drink herself to death before saying so to anyone. In the show, Kim unfortunately never mentions this, in fact the most development she gets is with Knives in a jam out session.
Young Neil gets a bigger role as the comedic slapstick boy and I am hapoy he gets a lot of time to shine. In the comics he wasn't really anything at all, the movie even less so, but the show? Peak Neil moment.
Also, age of consent laws in Canada are different from the US so Kim and Knives kissing is legal. Knives however can't drink, she isn't 18. So that part? Yeah, that makes that moment illegal. Makes that entire group accomplices too, they didn't stop her from drinking.
It's taken me about this long since Scott Pilgrim F*cks Off to realize why, but yeah, I was not really into the multi-episode film meta-narrative especially after the great character work and fight scenes we got in ep2-3.... I guess it's because it WAS sort of just. About the older works. And what I enjoyed about SPTO is when it's NOT being that, but something new and different.
But, yeah great thoughtful commentary about it and I agree wholeheartedly with the 'beautiful lie' hahah. Would absolutely NOT have complained if we DID get a faithful retelling of the books, but I think I'm honestly happier with what we DID get.
As someone who never managed to get into Scott Pilgrim before and basically started with the SPTO anime, I enjoyed it a lot. The large amount of context I am rapidly acquiring because I actually care about the franchise now isn’t exactly convincing me that I would have liked the comic or the movie nearly as much, but I have plans to check them out eventually anyway.
Second, they deviated from the fourth material right off the bat in episode one I was like “man we were robbed”
I saw a clip in tumblr where the girls were jammin the drums and bass and that was all I saw before deciding to watch the show xD
I think the show was good but we really need to get some development of Scott like through the comics he's terrible but he does slowly change and grow and even though he's not perfect the series ends with the idea that Scott and Ramona can grow and become better people
watched it for scott n his friends, stayed for the league having some character development
What character development?
the internet when a character has flaws:
I think the "Knives being good at everything" was twofold, maybe threefold intentional... It shows that being "Not right for Scott" is far from her being any level of failure, we tend to make romance out to be a victory, but why can't she be "Not for Scott, but also great"? The second point is... Scott is kind of broken, and broken people tend to trend towards other, complimentary broken people. And the final one, is that it's still in the "Whodunnit" phase of the show, and she just takes his coat, fills the spot in the band, and becomes besties with Stephen? Well, that's a suspect.
I love everything about scott pilgrim with scott pilgrim and more... god im so happy you made a vid on it!
The whole "oh wow Scott is a terrible person" thing crack me up to no end. Like yeah Scott is an insecure dick bag THATS THE FRIKIN POINT! you cant have amazing redemption arc with great character development when you are already a golden boy lol
i frikin love this show though
What's even funnier is that almost every other character is like him.
Beautiful Lie? WTF! Danganronpa V3 reference? So epic.
It feels like a stab to the abdomen
Agreed they should've just marketed it for what the show is, people would have liked it either way.
But then people wouldn't be surprise. It wasn't as if they didn't give you a hint with the name of the show. Isn't it funny in a world where people are concern with spoiling warning, that when a show try not to spoil anything people still complain?
the marketing has always been the Scott adpatation's worst enemy
@paulshipper143 People would've been a little upset. But then when the show came out, people would have realized, Oh, this is actually a good show. this show should have been called ramona it together. The title gets it together is one of the titles of the original books, And really fit the theme of ramona's character arc in the show.
then people prolly wouldn't watched it (or at least the fear of what COULD happen, knowing and anticipating "fan reaction") or even earlier on boycotted it for being "Bleeeh sjw bleeeehhh modifying blah blah" which is the weirdest argument I've ever seen out of all this happening considering the origin and nature of this series lol.
We Stan the OG Gordon Goose and if you don't then get moving #nofear
Nice analysis! Personally I think a somewhat faithful version of the original story that incorporated more Ramona-ex-interactions would have been way nicer than what we got, and I'm a little sad that now we'll probably never get that anime.
Hard agree.
lol you clearly have never met a Savant type. They can pick up almost anything and excel quick! It’s a very real thing. So knives makes sense!
It´s basically similiar to "The Cake is a Lie"
The Knives thing with instruments was really funny
"You have been playing piano more than 4 hours?"
4:20 seems like scott isnt the only one simping here
It was well done and im happy I didnt have to watch the same story told a third time
5:21 As you may know the autor of Scott Pilgrim has used asian stereotypes as comedic tools in his whiting. So, a asian kid knowing how to play piano seemed like a not so subtle stereotype joke.
As a former bass player, I'm the first to admit that playing base on a basic level is very simple for someone who is proficient in some other instrument. And what Knives played was very simple. What seemed to impres the other guys was her ability to improvise something on the spot. AKA her songwriting/ composition skils. Later on she seems to drag the other guy with her towards a style of songwriting she is more comfortable with.
Knives just got the same expansion on her bagrounds and character arc as most of the cast got. Who ever wrote that stuff in to the story probably tought, "You know what would be kind of funny. The asian girl knowing how to play a classical instrument."
No, I never pursue someone. I have crippling social anxiety
I enjoyed the movie and the show. They did a really good job on them so yeah
Out of curiosity, what is your opinion on the comics compared to the film?
The film does a Decent job of merging the later parts of the story, but I don’t think Gideon or the twins live up to their potential in either.
man, I just wanted to hear someone rant about this anime not being the adaptattion we all wanted to see
OMG im happy to finally hear someone properly talk about the bait and switch and the reason for it 😊m
i'm a big fan of the comics, movie and now the anime, i enjoyed it a lot, I like different takes on things and this one was good and entertaining.
"Ramona loves Scott and wants to be with him"
No she doesn't dude? In this new timeline, she's met him TWO TIMES. Their FIRST date is interrupted and from her perspective he "dies"
So, why does this new Ramona even care what happened to Scott? THEY DON'T KNOW EACH OTHER NOW.
Anything these two characters go through doesn't matter because they're not the same Scott and Ramona from the story that WE KNOW... and the originals are the CAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS IN THE SERIES. The whole thing is a trainwreck that tries to destroy the OG story.
Bro you wouldnt hang out with wallace or stephen? Thats messed up
I would hang out with Wallace so hard

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is a Beautiful lie..........
_beautiful lie starts playing_
This is iffy to say given how sensitive today's society is, but something I'd like to point out is that SP takes place in Toronto
The age of consent in Canada /as a whole/ is 16 years of age. (oddly enough, 14 in some places)
The amount of people who constantly bicker about Knives are going to be a bit pissy when they discover that their arguments are totally invalid
I don't know if differing age of consent laws make Scott dating a high school student not looked down upon in society.
It needed to be said, you're so brave.
Maybe season 2 will do that instead
there’s no season 2
Unfortunately, Bryan confirmed after the fact that there will be no season 2. Even know he threw in a bullshit and credit scene as a "joke" Honestly i'm very disappointed with that and how they handle this entire show.
I ask for
I get why they did all of this and UNDER ANY OTHER NAME, UNDER ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCE I would've watched this show. But now, with what it's called and what they did? I AM NOT AMUSED!
It’s a mess
luigi
If they just copied the comic and animate it, it would be boring and lazy, it's like, doing a live action of an animated series, just copyng the animated seried but in live action, it would be so lazy.
That's why Scott Pilgrim is nice, it changes things, and makes it's own thing
Like Tlou series, it would be boring just copyng the Game(That already was like just a movie)
The best parts of Tlou series is when it changes things
But they just made half the work, if they changed more things, it would be nicer
People need to stop imagining this world where everybody assumed It was going to be a perfect unchanged line for line remake of the original. Most people expected them to yes be pretty faithful to the source material, But also add some things. Maybe add a little bit extra context for some characters. Etc. In my honest opinion, the show should've been called Ramona. Flowers gets it together because that's pretty much the entire show. And get it together was one of the titles of the original books.
@@ciabatta55 That's a nice name pal
@@_tomy_4402 Thanks, lol. honestly, it's pretty surprising to me that no one's used that name yet. I keep seeing people things like ramona flowers versus the world or ramona flowers takes off ect. Gets it to together just is a perfect name and honestly I truly feel that if that was thr name they chose, They're marketing would have been fixed and the "bait and switch" would have been a non issue.
I wish Ramona was his sister
Lmao
No
The Coffin of Scotty and 'Mona
Can yall stop whining about how "bad" the anime is
I loved it
its a bait and switch, they wanted a female protagonist because its current year, even when the male protagonist has his name on the fucking title they do this, just like he man. disgusting. there is no excuse, its just another writer having no respect for the property and wanting to make his own story but he knows nobody will watch whatever he creates so he does this, corrupt an already established franchise. shills will eat up, or find excuses, "oh but there is more side character time now, i like this, i like that", all they had to do was the obvious.
Guys stop acting like this scott pilgrim show is good. The movie is better and if u want a good adaptation watch cyber punk edgerunners or arcane 2 of the best videogame adaptations
This show is great for the exact same reason cyberpunk was great. What was not good about it?
@@TDOGGisawsome everything especially the bait n switch, the lack of funny humor, the writing was bad, the pacing was terrible, the mystery just solves itself by the end. Its honestly lazy. The fact that they made scott an incel for no reason
@@matthewlugo2417 he’s always been an incel lmao you’re so off
Whatever.
@@TDOGGisawsome lol yea no hes a lowlife piece of shit but hes not an incel lol do your research on what an incel is
its just a bad bait and switch
remember - giving characters episodes about them doesn't mean its more depth just means they wasted more time
each character is worse off than their original selves and very apparent the why
DON'T WATCH - just isn't worth it for a unfulfilling "adaptation"
How are they remotely worst off 😂. The EX’s got closure and went on to live their own lives, knives got an upgrade, and Ramona got to be the one to fight for Scott. My only complaint is kinda Wallace but other than that it was solid for me!
@sonicsupa99 Wallace got kinda insufferable towards the end. He was true to his character but I needed a break from him
Actually loved Wallace, i don't see the insufferable thing
@sonicsupa99 the closure isnt earned lol the only one who gets something close to closure and development is roxy and thats the only ex who gets it... hmmmmm weird i wonder why that is cause shes a woman probably
I think the bait & switch is kinda... the point, like the reality of the world has been altered , anyone who is still mad at this didn't finish the show
The people that hate on this series are a buncha Scots, which this whole series literally be speakin' out against smfh lmfao
Yeah, why would someone who enjoys Scott pilgrim watch the Scott pilgrim show you know?
