  • D. Dornblüth & Sohn from Germany is another brand I really like because of their balance between craftmanship and price. Buying a beautifully decorated watch nowadays costs a lot of money so I am always happy to discover a brand which creates a similar effect with less cost for the end consumer. The attention to detail, hours of work and reconstruction of the base movement which is an Unitas 6498 really shocked me when I first saw it in person. Would love to hear your thoughts!
    Hope you enjoy the video!

      @@SwissWatchGang Marko, spoke to
      D. Dornblueth & Sohn and got their brochure and price list. For the entry level 99.0 in steel at roughly £3500, you cant beat the value considering the beautiful calibre at the back. They are made to your configuration ie colour of dial and hands colour and takes 3 to 4 months to make for you. You cant beat the value as a personalised watch made for you and they make very low supply of them. You dont see many on the preowned market if any because owners tend to keep them. I should be putting an order in soon. Many thanks

      Swiss Watch Gang I would love it if they made automatic movements. Perhaps they do but none that I could see pictured on their website were automatic. But I’d certainly order a steel model with that MOP dial and blued steel hands, indices, and dial printing. Gorgeous watch!

    • @SwissWatchGang
      @SwissWatchGang  3 роки тому +1

      @@jumboJetPilot I see the practicality of an automatic movement but for me when a watch is finished like the D&S watches are I don't want anything obstructing the view of the movement at any point. As I own automatic and manual winding watches I can assure you that you get used to it. And watching that barrel turn when you wind the watch for this brief moment in your day is also a calming event. 😊

    • @jumboJetPilot
      @jumboJetPilot 3 роки тому +1

      Swiss Watch Gang I would love manual wind watches as well and I know that they’re great for many people. But for me there’s only one thing that inhibits me - I have to travel internationally for work. A mechanical watch that doesn’t have a rapid 12 hour hand adjust simply isn’t practical for me as I cross 100 time zones and the international dateline usually about eight times per month. Unscrewing, hacking, resetting, unhacking, and screwing down the crown would be very tedious as it’s something I would have to do 15-20 times per month. Furthermore, it’s one thing if you travel for business once or twice per month. But as a professional traveler one thing is very apparent - it doesn’t pay to take expensive things with you one on the road. Hauling my bags and just the Boeing 747’s cockpit alone gives more than ample opportunity to scratch, bang, ding, and destroy nice things. And so consequently, my nice watches stay at home on the winder, waiting for me to wear them when I’m not out traveling. And when I am out traveling, I just wear a cheap Casio G-Shock.

    • @SwissWatchGang
      @SwissWatchGang  3 роки тому +2

      @@jumboJetPilot Well makes sense yes, the G-Shock is practical as it is not drawing attention from thiefs. What you might consider then is maybe a Ochs Junior as people have no clue what you'd be wearing haha www.hodinkee.com/articles/ochs-und-junior-two-time-zones-date-introducing

    Glashütte and A. Lange & Söhne are from Saxony though.
    You can differenciate them by the SA (without a points in between, for Saxony) and S.A. (With the points, for Saxony-Anhalt)
    Others that are close in lettering would be SL (Saarland) and SH (Schleswig-Holstein)

      @inkhaurt5812 4 роки тому +1

      @@leyay7540 Well, F.P Journe's reasoning for not having stop seconds is that the stoping mechanism blunt force can be harsh on the balance wheel and its stem. Another reason is that hacking mechanisms add more parts and take more space in the movement which is something he doesn't want.
