Was hoping to see a part 2 or an update on this ! Thank you for posting this. Awesome work you do with project fast times. I am watching it to put it back together Lol. just repainted the OG housings and lots of cleaning up back there trying to make brighter.
I have been working on it on and off while Sam and I have been working on her car. Im hoping to have part 2 done sometime after Christmas. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the kind words
@@DoubleRRestorations Just got the 70 back from the dipper... getting ready to get back at it. As a side question...what camera do you use for your content??
@DKz Garage Nice, I have an older Canon Camcorder, I think it's a vixia hf600. The wide angle lenses are cheap and that's good for grinding and welding. I have been wanting an m50 for just speaking parts. Still a little pricey though
Glad you're back Russ I went through the same thing on my 81. The gaskets go on dry.But there is a Chevy service bulletin that says to use a sealer if they leak.
Was hoping to see you put it back together for some insight on the install of the body gasket, I am fight mine like crazy trying to keep it in place while putting the two halves back together.
I'm working out some details of the lens and should have a vid out soon on this. These gaskets are a pain. One needs about 4 hands to get them together, lol.
Glad to see another video from you. have missed seeing them. I saw you pull that knife out to pry on the taillight getting it out. that is a tool to have. I still use mine all the time. Just like a second pair of hands. Handy as a screwdriver, a pry and anything else you can think of. Somethings just never go away.
This is a video from 2021, and I almost have the housings restored, but I'm looking for an NOS LH 78-81 Outer Body Gasket, I'm looking for, GM part # 5969325. I have the right side, but need the left. I have the repros, but they are very stiff. I haven't tried soaking them in Simple Green or setting them in the sun. Thanks for stopping by, remember to subscribe and follow the build. To Be Continued......
Yep, got sidetracked on a project my daughter bought. I'm actually working on finishing these. Best advice I can give is when you get your new gaskets, let them sit in the warm sun, install them on the old lenses and let them sit awhile. They will take shape. The outer body gaskets are a mess, straight out of the box.
hey Russ, nice to see a new video. Weird how that gasket cuts across the corner like that. I have a back up light socket that needs replacing on my 87 firebird. the original has 3 wires. I bought a new one but it only has 2 wires. I'm trying to figure out if i got the wrong one or what. Keep that in mind if you need to replace any of them.
Charles, doing well. I'm helping my daughter Sam on a project she bought. We are recording it and hope to release it soon, can't wait to get back to the Camaro. Thanks for checking in.
@@DoubleRRestorations glad to hear. Family always comes first. I'm currently working on the window seal on the front and rear of my 71. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of metal fab. Doesn't look easy, haha. Look forward to your next broadcast, and thank you for the reply back.
Still have them. They have been on the back burner since Covid. Got a vid coming out soon. We have been working on a car my daughter bought. Thanks for stopping by.
there are many years I stay away from because of stuff like that.. turns a weekend project in to a year long struggle... and $500 more than you wanted to spend... I dont think those tail lights are meant to come apart... well, at least 20 years ago they didnt sell a single thing for them.... i bought A 79 z28 in 2002 and had to get rid of it.. it was yellow with a black interior. it had a 1972 454 in it... i pulled the engine and sold the car.. guy gave me $500 for the interior a day after i listed it on craigslist.. rear spring perches were rusted through the floor.... my dad warned me about that..
Thank Chris, yes I don't think these cars were made to last. I've almost got everything I need to restore them. The good news is once the car once restored will be kept inside. That should help on saving some of the plastics. I always enjoy your channel, thanks for stopping by.
Oh I thought you were asking about my 81 tail lights. I haven't worked on my 72 for awhile, for many reasons. My daughter and I are working on her car but we are almost done

Thank you and thanks for watching
Glad to see you back, Russ! Missed your videos.
Thanks Jerry, feels good to be putting out vids again
Good to see you back Russ.
Thanks Wiley!
That's the way I like to do it, slow and easy and make sure not to damage anything! Many of these cars were used on the dirt tracks.
Yes, some of these old parts are brittle. Thank you and thanks for watching.
Looking good, glad to see you back at it.
Thanks Sam, glad to be back working on my cars
Great video Russ! Glad to see you back in the shop!!
Thanks Dave, how's your projects coming along?

Thank you, I have a few in the works
You had me on pins and needles on the disassembly. Hate to hear those plastic pieces creak and pop. Good job Russ
Me too Lloyd, age has not been good to some of these parts. Lol. Thanks
Glad to see you back sir, look forward to your new videos
Thanks Ray, Hoping to make some good progress this year on the projects

Good to know. Thanks, I'll try these dry first, just in case I have to go back into them some day.

I vote you make a video on removing the bumper and removing and rewelding the tail panel! LOL I need a video on that Russ!
No Sir! If you want that vid, you will have to take over this channel and show us how to do it. Lol!

You got that right Roger. Use these all the time lol.
Get a plastic welding set from TEMU, good amount of plastic rods come with the welder, 4 of 5 different types of rods for the correct plastic weld job
Thanks for the video!
You bet! Thanks Jeff
Hope you find the part Russ, some of the NOS stuff is hard to find and pricey!
Yes it sure is. Still looking. Lol. I'm sure I can make the repo one work, but it would be so nice to find. Thanks Wendell

Ok so it looks like you never made the next video. Really looking for how to install the new tail light gaskets.

Will do, thank you. The 3 wire may be the brake and tail lamp one combined.
How are you doing on your build? Haven't seen you on here in awhile... hope you're doing well friend.

Can windshield repaor resin be used to fill the cracks in lenses
Probably, but the clarity of the clear lens is also gone. The replacements are nice too. Well worth it imo.
Seems like you could rebuild that housing with some JB? 👍
Absolutely, I scored a great deal on a used one on Facebook marketplace. Thanks for watching.
Russ are you good? Do you still have your cars?

I’m trying to clean everything and get a paint booth set up up and it is taking way longer than I thought.. I really like that shop you have there
@Chris Craft 2 Thanks Chris, it's been alot of work. It's a struggle to keep it clean.
Are you done yet 🤔?
I stopped in hope of finding a lh nos gasket
@@DoubleRRestorations what's that ? . I got 72 . But one day I will have to do a lot of work it's got rusty trunk pan

That seal should not take any type of adhesive or sealant.
Someone had definitely been into one of these before.
@@DoubleRRestorations The new seals are definitely a pain in the but to install.
@CamaroMan79 Lots of patience for sure.
