(SPRAY PAINT) Your Car At HOME Pt. 2 (How To Cut & Buff) For A SHOW CAR FINISH
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 тра 2024
- This was a Fun but tiring video. I had wins and fails in this video but we got it done!!! In this video we started with a very bad orange peeled spray paint job and turned it into a slick show car finish. I used all pretty primitive tools to get this process of wet sanding and buffing the paint to perfection. This process is pretty simple but labor intensive!!! So follow along get your sand paper and buffer and get to doing some satisfying paint correction.

Dang, that looked like a workout. Shined up good though. Nice work. So many good tips. Thank ya, sir, for going to the trouble.
Hahaha it was, I wouldn't of been as bad if it wasn't as orange peeled. That was my fault spraying to close to the pannel. Im not use to them turbo cans but I like em!!! Thanks for watching!!!
It’s a work out for lazy slobs !
I never woulda believed it, if I didn't just see it. Incredible job!
Hahaha thank you!!!!
Words I've never heard..."'I' got to many trucks". Thanks for the great drops!
Hahahaha your right, its kinda like a savings account lol
you are a great teacher. I love your accent and how you talk about what is going on. Keep up the good work. You are authenitic.
Thank you very much!!
Can not believe how Shiney and smooth the surface is ,only thing that would bother me if I don't it was the red spots coming through, yes I'm ocd ,great work!!!!
Yeah I'm the same way. If this wasn't a test pannel I'd have to fix it lol
I knew nothing about painting a car! Thanks so much for your video I really appreciate it!!
Thank you very much for watching!!!
Keep going with this truck...the impact of the total job will be beyond impressive...a total job is going to inspire viewers and that is the core of this channel 😉
Thank you for the idea we may try a full build spray painted if yall want to see it!!!!!
I wanna thank you. I followed your instructions after rattle canning (turbo white) the suburban. No clear coat and just did cut and buff on paint. Holy moly, I wish I knew about this before because it makes a huge difference. I did use flash light to see orange peel in between sanding. I used different waxes, and will buy Nu Finish to add to this. Mine will have black truck bed liner on bottom half to help hide body work and clear or white bed liner on roof.
That's so awesome, so glad it helped, I just bought a 87 surburban last week. I showed it off on last week's video!!!
Looks freaking amazing!!! Wowza!
Thank you!!!!!
Good result,thanks. Regards Chris
Thank you!!!!!

Definitely the best turbo can video I've seen so far. I'm a New subscriber! I'm going to go back and watch some of your other videos! Great job & Great video!!
Awesome thank you very much!!!
I have two different trucks that I have been needing to get painted but I have never painted a vehicle in my life before!! I’m also definitely not good at mudding and taping a house out either so if I can’t do a good job mudding and taping a house out I’m definitely not going to be good at doing a vehicle either!!! I can’t afford to have someone do a paint and body work on my trucks either so I’m just going to have to try and do it myself!!! After watching all your steps that you go through has definitely helped me out on what I need to get and what to do!!! I think if I just do one panel at a time and just take my time and follow your steps I keep telling myself I might be able to pull it off hopefully!!! I have a 1972 Chevy K30 with a 1969 grill in it and the other truck I need to get painted is a 1981 Chevy K30 also!!! I have gotten all new sheet metal for my 1972 and all the sheet metal on my 1981 is good except I do need to find a decent 8’ box with dual square gas doors for it!!! Can I paint the front half of the truck now and then when I’m able to find the correct box for it could I paint it then or should I paint it all at the same time??? I’m thinking of painting it white or a two tone white and blue!!! What are your thoughts on that?? It does stay in my shop most of the time since it is big enough!!! I built a big shop 60’x80’x16’ so I’d have enough room for all my good trucks and so they wouldn’t have to sit out side all the time also!!! After I got my shop put up after building are house 20 years ago I definitely wish we would have put one up much sooner for sure!!! Awesome video and I’m definitely glad I ran across your channel for sure!!!
Yeah the one pannel at a time is a good idea, it sounds like you have some amazing projects. I learned how to do this from trial and error, you got this!!! I would stay away from metallics they can be a pain when learning. Sorry for the delay!!!
Dam man that looks great good job 😊
Thank you !!!!!!
Wow impressive 👍
Thank you very much!!!!
Yea after I watched your video plus others I went did body work and I went with Rust oleum gloss charcoal grey on my 2001 impala. I left side mold black but painted the skirts. Now I put on lot like 6 cans of clear and yea its gonna need wet sanded then buffed. Already got heads turning and any body man or anyone knows about painting knew I have yet to wet sand then buff out..everyone I talked to said they never seen 01 impala in New color on these cars seen today. Plus way it runs..I replaced all the major parts on her and once I buff her out she gonna shine like new money. Then I'm gonna start working on inside and like put different seats in front..like bucket seats.
I love harbor freight love tools and that looks great 👍
I call harborfreight the man mall lol, thanks for watching!!!
It’s really hard to believe the paint job started from a basic can of rust oleum. Amazing!
Thank you, hopefully next week were gonna do a show car quality spray paint job!!!!
If you use machine glaze with a black or white pad .. will more than likely get rid of all the haze and make the black more deep. It will look 100x better
Thanks for the tip, That enamel is the hardest thing I've ever buffed. I put some of the 2k clear over it and buffed it and it looks amazing, here is a link to this weeks video
ua-cam.com/video/0CqjC_7l8dc/v-deo.htmlsi=4ZEP9e3iOegpULDK
Great job and I admire your honesty, patience and genuine effort to make it right. God Bless You!
Thank you hope you have a Blessed day!!!!
It turned out as good as the paint on a new car with less orange peel but your haze is from cutting too dry, gotta stop when it turns to gum or it just blends in but i wouldn't be afraid to use that turbo on my old truck but id definitely clear it just for that extra protection
It does look a ton better 2k cleared, your right that stuff gets gooey!!!
I did a hood like this. If you buff it with Meguires cleaner wax after you cut and buff it makes it look like a mirror.
I love the meguiars products, ill try that!!!!
You definitely need a wool pad for the big buffer and not use the foam to cut the clear alot faster initially ,had you done that you would of finished in half the time for sure
looks good brother. only thing I could say is use a microfiber when you are wiping off the buffing compound and you will have a much easier time keeping the shine on new paint.
Thanks, the problem I had os that enamel is gooey when you start buffing, it tends to mar that compound lol. But your right I love them microfiber rags!!!!
I totally understand that stuff isn’t the same as a two part with a hardener for sure. Great job though.
I think that looks really good I've been happy with that on my truck I spray bombed it in white I got cans mixed at the parts store for the factory color and them can suck compared to using the Rust-Oleum in a can I didn't do the cut and buff or the wet sand but I might try that to see if it'll make it shine like yours did cuz mine look dull
I love my rustoleum, they have stepped up the spray paint game for sure!!!!
Nice! Thx!
Thanks for watching!!!
I wish Rust oleum would make colors in that Turbo spray can... Black, white and gray isn't enough
Yeah I know, red would be awesome!!!
Thank you for this series, I learned a ton .wow!
Thanks for hanging out with me!!!
looks amazing for can paint
Thank you!!!
Good tutorial shines like glass is good to sand in an x pattern for clear coat as well as other surfaces makes it go quicker i m h o
Doing great!! Love the darker blue better! Lighter blue was very Suttle. Over a red candy metallic, what pearl would you suggest adding to the clear?
Nice work !
Thank you very much!!!!
Great video. Can you do a video using poppies patina, Wipe on clear coat. I want to use that then Cut and birth to a high gloss
I may look into that, I've heard of it but have never tried it before.
That looks great! But that is coming from a beginner. You being a professional painter it may look subpar. For a hot rod and not concours I would be 100% happy with how it turned out. I have a ‘59 Apache and a ‘61 olds 88 that may get this treatment. I guess it depends on what colors are available in those big cans. I do know that good bodywork is the key to a decent finish. Thanks for doing these videos and making them long enough to follow along.
Thank you, yeah it could stand a little more but it turned out pretty good for what it is, lol. Those new rustoleum cans with the different settings work prett well. Im going to do a video next with the little cans, then shoot 3 coats of 2k clear over it, then buff it. It should look like a show car with all spray paint !! Sounds like you have some awesome projects!!!!! Thank you for Watching!!!!
im really impressed at how good those turbo cans do im gonna paint my old truck with those i think
They are pretty impressive, you can paint a bedside in 2 swipes lol
Impressive! A lot of work. How would you fix the red spots?
If you was gonna clear it you could lightly wet sand in 800 grit spray a lil paint over the red spots then clear the whole pannel. If you were going to just sue the rustoleum you would have to sand it with 600 grit the spray the whole pannel. Not really a easy way to do it lol!!!
Looks awesome for what it is. Have you seen that denim pad that is supposed to remove orange peal on its own. saw someone use it here on youtube somewhere
No I need to check that out!!! Thanks for the tip!
Don't know about you but I'd be calling all my friends to show off that I have those buffing skills from a rattle can paint job. I hate to ask what is the order in using the sand paper ? I'm about to paint my son's car with rust -oleum but trying it with a spray gun. Sad part I don't have a garage so its outside for me any advice on the mixing ratio for the rust -oleum with acetone. Bueno sir be standing by for the next one. Like to see those slotted mags 5 or 6 lug
Thank you very much!!! You may want to try the turbo can, its pretty impressive, ill put the link to the video where I sprayed that bed side with the turbo can. I haven't tried spraying it through a gun yet. I will say in my years of painting make sure to follow the directions to the max, and you'll have success!!! This comming week im going to rustoleum turbo the other bedside then spray it with the 2k spraymax clear then buff. That clear will make it last for years and buff like butter!. Ill try to remember to show the slots, there 5 lug small chevrolet pattern 5 on 4 3/4.
Mix for spray gun job should be 1 to 1
@@bJamesm-bj6ur thanks
The truth is that you are a professional, wow tremendous and the truth is that I enjoyed it a lot, thank you and may God continue to give you much more knowledge so that you can continue sharing it.
Thank you very much, hope you have a Blessed day!!!!!
You need to get out more pal !
Wow! Such a awesome job there!
Thank you very much!!!
The First Coat Looked Way Better than the Second Coat on your Truck Bed.
I did my SUV Spray In A Can Anodized RED and it has a color Change in it So on a bright day it is a Cherry RED and in the Shade it turns Dark Cherry RED It Looks Awesome and I also Did all of my Plastic Interior Trimmings.
I also did the Star the Same color on my Aluminum Star Wheels it started to chip off on the Wheels because i was Supposed to Clearcoat the Aluminum Wheels First then when dried and spray on the Anodized RED and let that Dry and Clearcoat it. Anodized paints Only works with Chrome for it to work, so what i did I sanded my SUV right Down to the Chrome Metal then Clearcoat it and then Sprayed on the Anodized Cherry RED and after it was dried then Sprayed Clearcoat to lock in the paint. It's like a hamburger the bun is Clearcoat the meat is your Cherry RED and the other bun is your Clearcoat you need to sandwich it in, that's what a Autobody Shop Guy Told me to do.👍
Yeah I agree, I will say that turbo dumps paint and makes it orange peel bad. The other cans do much better. I'll have a video on doing a show car quality paint job with spray paint soon. Man that sounds like a cool color on your SUV, ill have to try that!!!
I didn't do a video i wish i did so you could see it, but I guess I can make a Slideshow Video i have Pictures of it, I also Custom design Builds of LED Lighting for Vehicles and Motorcycles and marine Boats like Pontoon boats I build LED Light Bars I did all of the lighting on my SUV there Isn't a Stock bulb left in the SUV It is all LED Lighted Now and My Light Bar puts out in Lumens 300,000 in Brightness.👍
@@ACDesignsGarage I was thinking that the spray paint that you used could be different thinners than the Autobody thinners that they use, that might have made the Second Coat bubbly that you did.
Hey Sir out of all the painters you the only one, who said how to use the grits sanding question, I need to do my rear third light and the paint is peeling up, what type of sanding and primer to use it jet black.,iam your 1fan now
Im curious to know if you've ever used the Sonax brand of compound and polish? That stuff is amazing. I'll never use Mother's again.
I'm game to try it, but I haven't yet!!!
Never have too many trucks.
I agree lol
That’s really impressive
Thank you!!!!
Hi man.
Look pretty good for cheap paint so
Do you use rustoleum gloss paint than start with sand paper with 1000,1500,2,000,2,500 right?
Regarding...
Yes you are correct!!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage Thanks a lot
Amazing results ! Thanks for the time and the tips! So after the cut and buff, is it just waxed to protect it?
Thank you!!! Yes if you have swirls you can use a glaze polish to remove then then a good carnuba wax. The only down fall is the spray paint won't hold up very long. This weeks video is on how to put 2k spray paint clear that will make it last for a good while!!!
Looking forward to listening/watching tthis. I’m on the Ford assembly line. Occasionally I can take a glance.
Awesome thanks for listening and watching!!! I bet thats an awesome job!!!!!!
No one cares about you or where you are !
It has its good days and bad days
It is possible to sand paper the burn clear and cut to give the shine again or we have to spray clear again then do the whole process? Is for my acura tsx and i live in Florida
You can try, but your best result will come from sanding it down and reclearing. The reason it looks burnt is because the clear is super thin. One trick you can do is wet the area with water and that will usually tell you what it will look like when cleared.
After doing this could you improve the clarity by clear coating this ?
Yes I made a video after this one putting 2k clear over it and buffing it, it turned out amazing!!!!
looks good man
Thank you very much!!!!
So can you polish the other half with compound without wet sanding and get the same results?
I would say yes if it was a catalyzed single stage. But this enamel never really gets hard enough to buff it flat. But you could try it out, I haven't tried that yet
wow that’s a lot of work. looks great though.
It was like 5 hours lol!!!
Awesome video Great work !
Thank you!!!
Wet your pads and clean the paint out of them often.
I agree, this enamel goo's up the paper pretty bad , it sat for a week in the sun lol
How would you maintain the gloss ? Waxing /polishing or can you clear over it ? .
I took my old 69 pick up to a crooked body shop he promised me a decent paint job at a fair price 2,000 dollar deposit my truck sat in his shop for 2 months no work done to it but stripping and ruining a lot of my classic trim . I went every weekend and asked about the progress so he got frustrated with me and started zipping on the truck with a flap disc 😮 to look like he was working on it 😢. I finally asked for my keys 3 months later drove it out with no windshield no taillights all my stuff in a box and took her home then I had to use a rattle can to try to color match it to look decent but it needs this kind of lovin.
I hate that, for some reason people don't wat to work for some reason. As for maintaining it you can keep polishing it but it will get thin. The best way to do it is 2k clear over that spray paint. I did a video this week on buffing that 2k and it looks amazing. The week before I showed how to clear over the turbo can. I'll put a link below on this weeks video if you want to check it out. Thanks for watching!!!
ua-cam.com/video/0CqjC_7l8dc/v-deo.htmlsi=Z2zNfjquZo0qrr0F
If you are going to use that type paint use a pint or a quart in a gun that loads from the top a small one for cars and it will save you a lot of sanding
And better finish
Yeah I have a ton of spray guns, i was doin it this way for guys that dont have any spray guns or Compressors.
Understand keep up the good work
See what a turbo can rustoleum black paint job with 2k clear with a 3step cut and polish would look like ? Just curious
The painting part will be this Friday, then the cut and buff next week, keep an eye out!!
@@ACDesignsGarage sounds good. 👍
Nice vid except for one thing. I've done plenty of cut and buff on cars throughout the years. One thing I didn't care for is how you were sanding the paint horizontally on the curved sections. There I like to do the criss cross method. With a bodymans eye I could see the problems after you buffed it out. But that's OK. Everyone watching your video didn't see it. But I could see the problem with you sanding the curved sections left to right and vice a versa.
Thanks yeah I normally dont sand good cars like that but that enamel is a gooey mess. It sands like garb lol. After 4 hours of sanding I about had enough of it and It was cutting through so I stopped lol, ill drop a link to some of my real work to help redeem myself lol
ua-cam.com/video/1l53BEcbooI/v-deo.htmlsi=z0FaCjzlJ0DGrxkj
That looks great! In the past, I’ve had issues with rustoleum enamel fading from the sun, but a clear coat prevented that. Does this cut/buff process help, or do you still clear coat it?
The clear will help it last longer, then you can cut and buff it for a show car shine!!! Hopefully next week im gonna do a clear coat job on the other side!!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage Awesome! Can't wait for the video!
The cutting part is what scares me. Im happy to do everything else but the cutting part makes me nervous. Im prepping to rattle can restore my 1987 honda Ballade/ Civic.
That's why I put extra paint on it to be sure. The main places that you will have trouble are hard edges. You can tape them up so you dont hit them. But don't worry I've cut through before just fix it and keep going. Another tip is not to use power tools and block by hand and you will have less chance of cutting through!
Next time use the da sander and which one do you use
Dynabrade is my favorite, I also have a Ingersoll Rand that's pretty good!!!!
When would you add clear coat during this process? I'm painting my hood Thursday n wanted to put clear on it after the can. Thanks man. Perfect timing
Awesome Im doing a video this week but it wont be out till Friday. The way I do it is if your painting your color, get a couple coats of it down till covered then let it tac. I like to check a spot on the paper or tape that has paint on it. It should be barely sticky, not stringing when you pull your finger off of it, and then I shoot the clear. If your just clearing a dry surface youll need to wet sand it with 800 grit to give it something to bite into or it will peel off later
Thanks for replying. Just another question. Shouldn't I wet sand it anyways after base coat? I'm assuming ill have orange peel. Then shoot clear after that. Thanks again. Maybe ill wait a day and watch the video
Can a man just start with 2500 grit to clean up scratches on a single stage old paint to get the oxidation? Keep up the great work/ content.
Yeah man that should work pretty good. If it's really bad just drop back to 2000 the 2500 and buff, just depends on how bad it is. Thanks for watching!!!!!!
Damn all the work for a rattle can paint job hmmmm.... 🤪🤪🤪
It's alot of work lol
👍👍
The problem is you cant thin the paint further than how it is in the can that's why I use a good quality spray gun at the proper pressure.as the more you spray from the can the lower pressure you end up with but not a bad job for a can.
Thank you!!!!
awesome demo
Thank you very much!!!!
I ment to ask that could I use 800 grit to wet sand if it be safe to and not leave scratches once I buff it?
I'd be scared that you couldn't get those scratches out, you could go from 800 to 1000 to 1500 to 2500. Or just go 1500 if you have peel then up from there. I don't usually buff till 2500 because it's easier.
@@ACDesignsGarage I went got 1500 to 2000 but now should I use micquires polish to buff or compound I keep getten different stories
Do it in the shade
I know lol it was to hot!!!
Looks good, what part of NC are you from, i live in Eastern NC!
Just north of Charlotte
Its either good advice and what works instead of a bunch of excuses for a failure
All of it works I just show the problems that come up and how to fix them instead of editing everything out and say its all peachy .
So now that this is cut and buffed, can you clear coat over that to protect it? Or are you supposed to just leave it bare paint
You can clear over it but youll ha e to wet sand with 600 or 800 then clear so it has a mechanical bond.Im going to try to do a clear coated video this comming week!!
Ok so basically you would just cut but not buff. So you could spray the clear on it. Then cut and buff the clear. Man that is soo much freakin work !!
@@joshramsey8450 Typically you spray clear on before any sanding any paint. Only time you need to sand is if you get runs or orange peel in your base and that's usually user error lol
Would the residue blow out with compressed air or is it too gummy?
It helps bit that stuff is so soft it still gums up. I did a video this week on cut and buffing the 2k clear over the rustoleum and it was amazing!! I'll put yhe video below
ua-cam.com/video/0CqjC_7l8dc/v-deo.htmlsi=QorfqlmZATDdXB2c
@ACDesignsGarage I already watched it. Turned out amazing. Nice work!
So should i cut and buff the base cost before the clear coat, or just paint and clear coat it and then cut and buff?
You can sand the base if it's really dry with like 600 grit wet then shoot the 2k clear ,then you can buff it. Go to my playlist on paint your car at home, I show how to shoot the base then 2k clear it right after, the buff the next day foe a show car finish!!!
Thank you! Appreciate the info!
So I made a huge mistake I didn't sand my primer before shooting my base coat,Any suggestions on how to fix it, or am I screwed
whats the use when u spray with aerosol when gonna end up orange peel, when u can use air comp: adjusted the air to 25 psi to get fine coat loll, when u have to sanded to remove orange pell,u drinking to much coca cola, theres many try to share with others, i only look at the guy BRIAN ,( paint society) that guy is immaculate,
I have $900 paint guns and have been custom painting for 25 years but I wanted to help out guys that dont have a shop ,air compressors and paint guns to give them the ability to paint there own car for cheap. I watch @paintsociety love his channel. He also has done many videos with spray paint. The main reason for the peel is using that turbo can that Everyone wants to see, that thing dumps some paint lol thanks for watching!!!!
Yeah man,,, can't throw too much shade at this.
It's rustoleum for cryin out loud.
Haha. Thanks for watching.
Good content very informative thanks for doing it ...
Thank you for watching!!!!!
