here's the problem with this approach: your actual files must remain in your downloads folder, otherwise you run the risk of a bunch of dead links in Serato when you have to move them later. One alternative may be to move the "auto-import alias" into the folder where you keep all of your music anyway, and then set Chrome up to download into that same folder. So your downloaded files don't go to Downloads, but to that folder instead, and are imported automatically. It may still cause trouble if you want to move files to the proper subdirectories later on (e.g. organized by artist), if you don't want all files indiscriminately in 1 big directory.
Sorry if there was any confusion in my video. I definitely DO NOT leave any music in my downloads folder. As soon as the songs are done downloading them, I move them into the proper folders where I keep my music. Those are the folders that I have aliases for inside of the auto import folder.
exactly this aint make no sensevl atall cause lets say u uses a secondary music software? i build my folders then import it as crates in that way everything remain same easy access no headache
@@selectorerwin1don12 @PDot is right that you can organize your tracks in the same folders as you always do, right where you want them, and then add the alias (pointing to Serato's auto-import folder) to that location. Serato will automatically import any new tracks that you put there. This doesn't affect any other software. BTW, the way I did it, to reduce the risk of automatic snafus, is that I set the download path of my browser to a folder right next to where I keep my music, e.g. /staging and then when I download music it goes straight there. That gives me the opportunity to organize the files a bit in that folder (put them in subfolders by artist or genre etc). Then I manually drag the downloaded tracks (or folders ) into my main /djmusic folder, where I also keep the Serato auto-import alias. Next time I start Serato, boom!, tracks are automatically imported. Super efficient, super easy, and safe. Thanks again for the great video @PDot!
I like the idea... You touched the intro of it. A South African DJ did a much more detailed tutorial on this and even showed how it can work with your HardDrive and Crates. Just noticed you linked his video on the bio. 👊🏾
I just use the Serato Itch Sync. It's free and your folders become crates in serato DJ pro. You just point it to your main music folder and the to you serato library folder
Hey Pdot Great video, How was has this never been talked out b4! I've been with serato since the SL1 and scratch live days and in all those years have never come across this . I too follow the same path of getting the track, moving it to various folder in my windows library and then dragging into serato to corrisponding crate . A process that I'm just so used to , but now am de gonna try this "hack" can't wait to try it. Thanks again
I like the video, however, it did not work for me. First all my music is on an external HDD and I have two folder of serato one is a backup and the other is serato. The auto import folder only exist on my internal HDD, so I copied it and placed in the same directory on my external HDD. When I followed your steps and download a song it did not show up at all. Am I missing a step or is it because my my music folder is on my external drive. Any suggesting would help
I was wondering why i couldn't fine my new tracks... the first time i added music was added... but the following new tracks weren't unless i added them directly... now i know... rekordbox has a different system in place...
I converted my music to mp3 via UA-cam converter, they are now on my desktop in 1 big folder... Can i just dragged all tunes onto serato?. Also can my numark ddj mixer work of serato

@pdot My problem is that i have all my folders fixed by genres and those mimic my crates in Serato. But since i download the songs i could use this just to get going but eventually y will have mot move all my downloaded songs to the folders. But since i have so many different edits, i have them separated in different moods and genres and that's a lot. So if i download like 30 new songs i want to have the in one place to play with but if i move them then their will be scattered around. Any good tips on how to do it differently?
Once I download a song it automatically goes into my iTunes and then I just drop it in the proper folder. That’s how I been doing it since 2012. Thanks for info
Serato file handling compared to Traktor is like driving a toy bus compared to a real one. With Traktor I can move a file to a folder and import it, Bosh its done. With Serato I have to move it to a folder, go into Serato make a 'FILE' folder (otherwise using 'FILEs' Doesn't show that you played the track and is really small text. Also it is horizontal not vertical which is a right pain.) , then drag it into that folder, Then if I want it in a Crate say "RnB" then drag it into that one. Oh and then analyse it. I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS IS MY ONE AND BIGGEST REGET CHANGING TO SERATO. If anyone has any idea how to get the file folder bigger and in a style more like create let me know.
Hi great video - i use platinum notes to fix my songs first . So that might not work for me? But when I’m at a gig and i download a song it would work great ? What are your thoughts
@pdot another questions does the aliaswork for all subfolders? I have all my music in one folder and then a bunch of subfolders. Will it auto import everything withing the folder or do I have to make aliases to all my folders?

If you are using a streaming service like Tidal or Beatsource you could just log out/login after adding the song to the playlist on your phone. It should add when your playlists open back up.
What stops Serato from allowing the software to access local folder drives just like VDJ? too much hassle. In serato Personally I download my songs into genres of folders for different years, anytime I update a folder I ll remove old one and drop newly updated version.
