What a great serato lesson, thanks bro
They say leaders are born, bro teachers are born. You are nothing but a good teacher. Your simplicity makes my brain understand. Thank you.
Yes do more videos like this if possible. The reason is that you have a way of explanation that is comprehensive. Other pros think everyone is just in the know and even if we know, some won't it explained like they don't. It's just your personality that gives us better comprehension on the tutorial. Thank you much.
It does not matter how obvious a topic is, someone will always learn. I use cue points heavily but did not know you can name them or the idea of naming them. So thank you.
Very useful - and yes please, more "how to" videos like this! One more thing - you are sharing your considerable personal experience, no need to apologise for that. I guess there are always people who will disagree with you - so let them go set up their own UA-cam channel to tell the world how THEY do it while you keep sharing how YOU do it! (I know which channel I'm going to watch...!)
What up dude, and Merry Christmas. To the question you asked...yes these type of "tutorial/how to/this is how I do it" videos are very helpful and enlightening. Please keep them coming!
Great info. I would also add that you can change the color of the cue point marker. I assign my cue points similar to you and I also make verse yellow, hook green, bridge blue etc..It helps a lot just glancing at the waveform you can see the song structure very quickly.
Can you elaborate more on this? I love this method..would would you use for chorus, break, outro, intro etc?
@@michaelzepeda5506 Right click on the Cue Point Tab color.
Best tutorial I've found on adding cue points!!!
Good info, thanks! would be cool to hear you work the cue points. Actually hear the advantage of having an intro / exit cue point. Will def check out more of your videos.
Thanks for the info. Never thought about naming my cue points!
Your Knowledge is ALWAYS APPRECIATED- Every Tip is Useful-I didn't realize I could name my Cue-Points : THX
Hi Cleveland - appreciate the cue point tutorial - made me aware of the importance of proper settings - great info. Thanks 😀
I was already naming my cue points and putting an entry and exit cue point. Just found this video and love it. Thanks man
Cleveland,Yes keep them coming sir 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾
I really Needed the information you shared in this video Thanks Famo !
Different points of view is how people learn from one another. Honestly I made the mistake of exporting Cue points from Mixed in Key. Lesson learned, that doesn’t happen again.
Playing an entire track, not while playing live in a club or event setting, lol.
I’m very interested in seeing differences in ways to do things. If we aren’t learning, there’s no point.
Thanks for sharing this Terry!
I was already kind of working in this way. That being said, I still picked up a bit of information that I hadn't considered. Thank you so much my brother. Happy New Year and much respect.
This was cool to know that I set up the same way. I use cues on most beat changes: Intros, verses, bridges, hooks, outros and sounds/parts I think I may wanna scratch. I’ve only been at this for 7 months but like you said, “Set it for how your brain works.” I didn’t know that you could name the cues so that was cool to see too. Thanks man!
Thanks. I am a new DJ and that was just what I needed.
Can’t tell you how helpful this is, thank you!
great video; my pops used to slap my upside my head when using his LP's to always let the intro's play out; he used to say; stop rushing the song; but like you said; it made me realize that the intro's in most songs are important to hold and lock in...some songs have vocal points that are historic to to lock in as cue's Ex "big pun verbal piece on deep cover remix; when he talks about little Italy speed rap verse....so yes; cues have come a long way; but are very important.
It’s always great to hear how other people use the features of the software. Flip and slicer makes my head spin. Be great to see you cover those in depth if you haven’t already?.
Merry Christmas 🍻👊🏼
Great video. Good to know Cleveland sets CP's the same way I do. Now if we could just talk Serato devs into displaying the cue point name in the wave form as it approaches!
Yes do more of these videos they are a big help
I’m a chronological guy, but I like the way puffy does it
Great video tutorial. I don't think you mentioned the fact that you can also "Color Code" cue points. Along with naming them, I also use colors because they are highly visible without looking at my laptop. For me, Green is the start of the beat on the 1, Blue= Breaks, Bridge, & Choruses, Red is an Intro without a beat, Purple are versus, and Yellow is caution which means Mix-Out point. As you said everybody has their own system, but the colors are there so I take advantage.
Good point!
What a game changer!!! I said before I wish I could put tags on cues. There all this time!! 🙏 Thank You
Very useful. Being using cue point in Serato DJ for years. Nver knew you could name them! LOL
I like how Rekordbox has hot cues + memory cues. I use the memory cues as labels for the mixout points or other points of interest and the hot cues for jumpcuts only.
I really enjoyed your tutorial on cue points. I learning, and I’m looking for more on how you set your points. Nice.
Hey Man, you always make it simple & keep it 100%! Keep doing what you do!
Thank you for info. You always provide real content. I have a question what are you running Serato pro on? Thank you. Btw.. Never heard of the song sweet talk it’s fire
Great video. I always set cue point on my music. I believe it's the best way to mix tracks.
I like your teaching style!!!
THANKS TERRY, AM PLANNING IN BUYING THE DDJ-SX3 AND IS THE REASON AM WATCHING THESE TYPE OF VIDEOS. I'VE WATCHED YOUR VIDEOS IN THE PAST, BUT NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO SUBSCRIBED, BECAUSE OF YOUR CANDID RESPONSE, I SUBMITTED MY SUBSCRIPTION AND AS A FREE BONUS A "LIKE". THANK YOU, AND KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU DOING...
I do it quite differently, like Cleveland says, there no right or wrong way, just do it how it feels natural to you. I don't use labels as I rarely look at the screen at all, only for track selection, key and BPM.
BTW I use RB, I don't know if you can change the colours of the LEDs in serato.
I also have a Pioneer XP1, so I have a lot of cue points to play with
GREEN The start of the track and vocals
BLUE Down beat or cool down
ORANGE Starting to warm up
RED Hot or when the song is peaking in energy
MAGENTA only a few tracks have this, but is absolutely banging! Peak energy.
The only problem with this method is it's time consuming. You need to listen to the whole track carefully, go backwards and forwards, hitting cue points, then assigning a colour.
Each track, assuming a track is 4 minutes long, can take nearly 10 minutes to work through. But of course, once it's done, it's done forever!
Now you can get the phrasing right, you can also jump around the track to your hearts content, phrase to phrase and keeping the energy high.

Please repost working link, very helpful
Enjoyed the tutorial. Even though I know how to set up the queue points to best suite myself. it’s interesting to hear someone else perspective, you might find a nugget of info. Keep them coming.
Thank you very much for a useful tip in setting cue point .
Great mini tutorial CT. Yes, do more!
Thank you for that tutorial! Enjoy your videos!
Since day 1 i started DJing ive had all my tracks hot cue’d from 1-4, and this was when only 3 hot cue buttons were appearing on dj controllers like the numark mixtrack and vestax controllers. It makes djing so much faster and fluid for me
As always great info 🙏🏽🤙🏽 and yes I would like more videos like this!
I’ve only been doing this a couple months. I had a cue point system then came up with something better and sure I will again. Frustrating because I have to go back through all my tracks but the better prepared in the beginning the less time wasted later when you find a system that works.
Clear and fun explanation to learn from you. Great teacher. This was fun to learn. Thanks brother. Wish you the best. Ima subb. Take care and see you on youtube.
Great post, I knew "about it" but never put it into practice.Gonna take this advice going foward
Love this info. I’ve just made the changes in my settings, and I plan to label the cue points from now on. This will really help! I’m not sure if you’ve already covered it, but it’d be good to see a vid going over how you deal with setting/correcting beat grids that are off. Thanks for posting.
Loved the Star Trek analogy!
yeah my main 2 cue points are usually when song starts (beat part), and cue 3 is often always once vocals kick in so I can see where they start up. I like mixing in the beat before vocals. Often I'll set som emix out points that'll auto reloop if they work. in virtual dj you can create cue actions like "reloop 16" that'll just place the beat in a loop automatically without pressing anything.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year CT.
Great video, Thumbs up for Star Trek comparison
Solid advice. Thanks for sharing this info.
thank you Happy New Year from South Africa
Thanks love the content keep it coming. Never too experienced to learn something
Great channel. Great tips 👍🏼
GREAT VID !!!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do a video on ALL the aspects of Serato DVS (especially hooking up turntables...THANKS IN ADVANCE...PEACE !!!!!
Yea I'd love more specific dj'ing techniques and tips within serato and mixing in general
Very useful. More, please 😀Thanks!
PHENOMENAL VIDEO! 🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Thank you very helpful information.
What is the keyboard shortcut for setting cue points? I always end up doing it with my controller plugged in. Thanks for the video 🙏🏾
Awesome video CT. This just validated what I have been doing. I thought I have been cheating by doing this. I also use different colors to identify 4 or 8 bar intro and also my mix out points
Damn!! I appreciate this brother!!
This was good! Thanks! 🙂👍🏾
THANKS I am a beginner bedroom DJ and did not know I could name cue points.
Glad to help
Where can I get that hat?
Mix out points/safety out points is a very good idea. When I first bought my original ddjsx 4 chan 6 years ago I set those cues when I was learning how to dj on my own.
I use the term “fill” to describe drum fills, tags or vocals that drop before the 1...also I put a number on the start
Of the mix out point cue...be it 4, 8 or sometimes 16 for house so I know where to start the mix and how long I have before I want to completely kill sound on outgoing travk
Great video. I just updated to Version 2.5.5 and I cant seem to rename my cue points. What do you suggest?
I like the video and I believe in cue point......next time do some mixing using them. Thanks!
I like the idea of 2 mix out points. In general, I find there are cue points (1) for jumping to cool phrases, (2) looping, and (3) points where to start a track and mix out from. At least that’s my take thus far as a newbie DJ (but trained musician).
I spent like an hour last night figuring out how I wanted my cue points. Then like 2 1/2 finally starting to seriously work on setting them. I woke up today and my brain told me it didn't like the method I came up with at all, and to re do the shits. So I spent about half an hour coming up with a new template, but before I wasted another 2 1/2 hours redoing the ones I just made last night. I thought I'd look up a few YT videos for ideas.
If left to my own devices, I'm sure I would have gotten the cue points to something I actually liked. But it would have probably taken me like a dozen 2.5 hour sessions lol.
Great information,
dumb question, can you zoom in on the grid and fine point the cue point or does it kind of automatically snap to the wavelength?
Serato DJ instant doubles playing with one deck or just a mixer.. Can you make a video about that?
I'm not a DJ guy, but found this informative. I'm using que points on my serato deck to kinda be mini mpc style.
Always helpful thx.
This is brilliant thank you
Love your bro, keep it mann
Great I like your style
What if I don’t assign any other cue points but the outro and I want to assign it to the 4th pad to indicate it’s mixing out?
Keep them coming
Hello, Please help me!! I am having trouble seeing the one line on my screen...the line where I can line up my track for better cue points...help me PLEASE!!!! I am basically NEW to using Serato Dj Pro
Great job you really helped me alot thank you.
do you set loops as cue points ? i discovered i can't use the pads to trigger pre-saved loops, only cue points.
how do i type the verse intro etc on top of the color?when I click on it only gives me option for colours
Thanks terry 🎉
Great video.
Good stuff sir Thank you 🙏🏿
great video!
really helpfull never thought to label cue points //....
I always would label my cue points and recently changed to using an external hard drive and now I can't label them. They save, but when I label it, it automatically goes back to showing the time. Any suggestions?
???... I have version 1.9.2 Serato.Do I need to up grade to 2.4.3 pro.& if I do will my files transfer to it once downlo. When done delet old version right.
Do something similar with my cue points but also use Colours to let me know the bar count, particularly useful when using my SZ2 as the cue performance pads display these Colours so I instantly know how May bars I have to mix out.
Colors for bar counts is a great idea.
Helpful video
What is the best editing software for long mixing sets(2hrs) in your opinion?
How do I get a CheckOne2 hat??? Those things are dope!
Can I start a song from the cue point and carry on, without having to press Play at the same time?
Thank you 👀👍
I do it basically the same way: Intro (8 and 4 bar), Verse, Chorus, Verse/Brigde, Chorus, Outro
Also; how do dj's do the echo out's or close out when using serato or Djay.....
There are a number of ways... one way is to activate your echo and simply drop the fader or crossfade out...another way is to activate echo and simply hit stop or touch the platter. Echo then Filter out is yet another way... Serato also has a software echo out you can apply to you fx knob which is great for emergency mix outs.
Thx, I didn't know u can actually add labels on your cue points, a lot of work if u have a huge library like I do but I'll just label.the verse.
