Great Video.., Question what is the cause of choppy waveform while searching for a song in Serato? As well as what size Lacie are you using and how full is it?
I have a 2TB Lacie and have like 800GB's free on it. So I'm using like 1.2 - The waveform get's choppy from your computer working extra hard to index and search through a large library of music. Smaller library the better.
Nick Spinelli the worst part is having to go through and get rid of stuff. That could take forever. Serato hates large libraries... yet I have seen vdj and it has no problem with that at all.
What should DJ's like myself, (who have wrongly just dragged over all their music into Serato, and made crates after) do to correctly add music to Serato as you put it in this video? I completely agree with the way you say Music should be added. I just want to know what should I do from now. Should I delete all my music out of Serato and then drag it back over the way you say, or do you have a better suggestion? Thank you for all the knowledge you are sharing.
Thank you so much for this video DJ Nick Spinell I did the same thing because Where I normally get my music is from UA-cam Converter because I don’t want too waste money on buying music.
Bro thank you for making it so simple I have been struggling with yellow question marks for a long time you have moved a boulder out of my way... #respect
Found your channel yesterday , I love how simple you explain everything , I do sometimes have trouble taking in how others explain but with your videos I get it straight away
Thank you, Just started into Serarto, I prefer it instead that Rekordbox and decided to organize music by folders and now ... well thanks to this I see is not a simple Drag and drop
Hey Nick, just a quick thanks to you as you helped me on how to update my folders/music! I kept deleting the crate, and then re-adding the whole thing again... Cheers my man!
EVERYONE: Remember you cannot analyze with hardware (a controller, mixer, etc) plugged in. If it controls serato you will not see analyze unless the hardware is unplugged!
Great video! I don’t use Serato I use Rekordbox but honestly it’s similar concept. Definitely never drag all your music entirely at once unless you want it to crash! Great idea on the update folder too!
Rekordbox can do it this way but it also does it the way u can load music in itunes (file/ import/ track or folder)- which is my preference. The no options on right-clicking a track in serato is a pain in d @$$
Thank you for taking out to do this video. New to Serato and I am looking forward to downloading some tunes and drag. 2 thumbs up for the Analyze tip. All this time I've been loading each song to identify my bpm.
I just liked & Subscribed .. Really nice to have it laid down simple.. I've been having trouble organising my huge eclectic library especially after exporting to ext and using a new Mac and updated Serato DJ Pro.. Very helpful and just reminded me to go back and put more orgnisational effort in.. Thanks for the video ...
Dude😃 Thank you for sharing this information. This is exactly what I needed to see to get started. Now, my Serado account is set up the right way😃💯💪🏿👍🏿🙌🏿
sub folders in folders are fine as long as they have music in them. I have a reggae folder with no music directly, all I have is a sub folder for each artist, and under each artist folder I have their albums each in its own sub folder and that's where my music files are. IMHO if you have a large library that's a good way to organize it on a system level. So when I dragged the reggae folder into Serato it imported all 4500 tracks fine. I don't have a lot of different sub genre folders, but if you do you'll definitely want to drag folders in 1 by 1. But if you organize your music anything like mine, you can minimize the drags to next to none. I just checked my soul folder and it has 1,916 sub folders and 80 gigs. And all the music imported fine just by dragging the 1 main folder into Serato. Having your music tagged correctly (I use MusicBrainz) before you import into Serato is a good idea too imho.
Always learn Something New with you... We need a video on how to clean (products) our gear... controller, mixer, speakers etc... Or is that Santi’s Job??
Yo! Thank you for the help. If I connect my external hard drive to my laptop, open Serato, and follow your steps, will have to always have my hard drive connected as I DJ or will the music crates that I created save in Serato without needing it? Thank you again🙏🏽
Whatever your utube clip about adding music to serato dj it was very good thank you. Just would like to ask some of my folders have album art do I need to delete that file before adding music
Hi Nick if you have to redo all your music in a new Mac where and how would you organize them. I could not find any information on this and end creating a master music file on my desktop. Not sure if it was the right choice.
Hey Nick love your videos learning a lot from them. My question is what specs you have on your Dj laptop so it can perform the way you like? Maybe you can do a video about it for others.
Honestly bro, it sucks but it may be worth it to start over and do everything the right way. It'll give you peace of mind - sometimes if crates aren't loaded correctly it can cause serato to crash
Thank you so much! I'm new to using a LaCie hardrive and I was wondering do you use Velcro to attach you hardrive to your computer? If so how and why should I do it?
Great video thank you. Just wondering if there is a way to import new music to an existing SDJ library without having to make a new crate every time. For example, I use promo only and bring in a new folder every week. I was hoping to just add it to the library. since it contains all different genres, I then drag and drop songs into existing crates like top 40, hip hop, house, etc. thank you
Hey I thought this was a perfect tutorial. I have one question and I honestly think U answered it for me but correct me if I’m wrong. I’ll walk U through my process then ask the question. From my understanding, if I’m ripping CDs it seems like the best way to do it is to create a folder 1st. Rip the songs from the CD to my desktop. After that place the ripped songs into the fold that I created on my desktop and once that folder is filled with the songs/tracks, I then create a crate in Serato and analyze that folder with the new tracks and it will be loaded in my crate in Serato. The question is this, if my CD doesn’t have any track/song info, do I have to name the artists and tracks before loading into Serato? I have a bunch of CDs that don’t have the artists and titles embedded on the CDs. They are hand written with just track numbers showing up when I load them into the computer.
Thanks for the video Nick good job. I’m not looking to be a DJ, I love music and gatherings. I have a little kick back at my home soon and I just wanted to have that DJ feel with the music. I recently purchased this DJ kit with a Numark Party Mix. I was thinking that I was able to use my music in iTunes but I found out that I cannot. What is the best place to find music that will be compatible with my Party Mix?
If you have a laptop, download serato lite - it will work with your party mix, and try out beatsource. As long as you have internet, you can stream any song and create playlists etc with it. Its free for 30 days and 9.99 a month after that for any song.
Nick I have a WD hard drive in my crate side of Serato a computer tech put a Hard drive icon on my Desk top of my Mac book Air with songs that don’t come up in the WD Hard Drive ( crate ) side I’ll go to file in Serato and drag a song into a Crate and then when I unplug the HD and back the song in not in the crate I’m going do what you mentioned in this Video.
I have a lot of CDs I downloaded on Serato into folders some folders have music symbols some don't the ones that has music symbols play it was a doesn't have music symbol doesn't play why is that great video anyway.
I figured it out you have to go into the download setting and change the music to MP3 that would give you a music symbol and download and play on Serato
I've got a couple of questions. How does Ableton or Studio One work with Serato on a Roland DJ 505? I saw an older video that shows you how to convert .wav to mp3s in iTunes, but was hoping there is an easier way to go directly. I have seen a few videos of how Ableton links with Serato on the Roland 808 but I am hoping it will work with the 505 too. Also, wanted to know if you know about the Pioneer ddj-xp2 controller that now works with Serato? What I want to know is will it work with the Roland DJ-505? Will Pioneer gear play well with Roland gear?
If you have any questions, list them below!

Thank you so much for this video DJ Nick Spinell I did the same thing because Where I normally get my music is from UA-cam Converter because I don’t want too waste money on buying music.
That’s why VDJ 2021 is so much smoother.
Thank you, this is super helpful. As a day 1 noob I dragged a folder of 20 sub folders in and all tracks landed in one big folder
Bro thank you for making it so simple I have been struggling with yellow question marks for a long time you have moved a boulder out of my way... #respect
Glad it helped bro!!
Found your channel yesterday , I love how simple you explain everything , I do sometimes have trouble taking in how others explain but with your videos I get it straight away
I didnt realise I could update a folder by dragging the whole folder and it just updates it with the added files, bit tip, cheers dude, Subbed :-)
Word! Didn’t realize it was cleaner to drop in the sub folders.. like your rock example. I just dropped the whole thing in. Cleaning it now. 🧼 🧹
Nice work!
Yup! This is is how I’ve been doing it for years. Good video man!
Mark Cutz thanks Mark! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you, Just started into Serarto, I prefer it instead that Rekordbox and decided to organize music by folders and now ... well thanks to this I see is not a simple Drag and drop

Thanks for this!! I was going crazy trying to load my music in Serato.
Thank you for taking out to do this video. New to Serato and I am looking forward to downloading some tunes and drag. 2 thumbs up for the Analyze tip. All this time I've been loading each song to identify my bpm.
