    1:20 what i have heard and experienced is that Lifan engines are pretty solid when it comes to cheap 4 stroke minibike and dirt bike engines. other maker that i have had good experiences is Skyteam
    also Skyteam makes solid Honda Z50A clones imo and i had 2 Skyteam PBRs "Honda Monkey R clone" with 125cc Lifan engine :D

    Killer concept and execution unfortunately I do not have near the fabrication tools that you do but I have built some pretty cool toys over the years like the CM 400 quad and I put a KX 250 engine on an old Western Auto Go-kart.
    I put zero turn lawnmower rims and tires in the rear and ran Manco Dingo rear rims and tires on the front to give it better ground clearance. Being that it came stock without any suspension it was a rough ride on the dirt, but it was God awful fast.
    I Love the fact that you kept it handle bars instead of a conventional wheel. I believe it offers more options for setting up controls.
    I used bars on my build as well and kept my clutch on the bars and then used a foot pedal out of a bobcat skid steer loader for a heel/toe shifter. I used a quad thumb throttle so that I could use the stock gas pedal for the brake pedal. I modified the front end to accommodate using the Dingo rear rims and tires and set it up with a rack and pinion steering but opted for keeping it with no front brakes. The maiden voyage on the tarmac was a real eye opening experience that sent me back to the drawing board because it flipped me over and tore up the tank mount and exhaust bracket. The very large wheels in the back allowed the rear frame to clear hitting the ground and well I had under inflated the tires slightly to give the rigid mounted axle a bit of cushioning effect and yup the tires grabbed really hard and the next thing I knew I was on my head. It was a very short wheel base with way more power than that kart was ever intended to have and such large tires that it looked like someone tried to turn a smart car into a dragster.
    I ended up salvaging some casters from a department store kart and fabricated a set of suspended wheelie bars to keep the front wheels from coming up any higher than 4". After that it was quite the fun machine in a straight line. It would humiliate sport bikes for the first 5 telephone pole lengths in a drag race then it would run out of legs.
    I think for my next build I want to put a turbo charged Raptor 770 on a kart frame but this one will have a full cage and 4 way suspension😁.

      @TIRESIDE  7 місяців тому +2

      Sounds like you got some great ingenuity! My first go kart was a Manco Dingo! Loved that thing, even with 6.5hp it felt like a rocket especially to a 12-13 year old me. 👍

  • @27Zangle
    @27Zangle 4 місяці тому

    I have thought about doing the same a few times over the years but never got around to finding a donor quad. With that said, I did see a neighbor with something similar, but his was ugly, in the back of his truck. He would ride it up and down the street a bit here and there and then he sold it a few weeks back. I would try to find a way to bring the front tires closer to shorten the wheel base and would likely put some spacers on for more width.
    Anyways, this one looks amazing!

    If you guys make another one of these You guys should definitely make wider front control arms and get a wider rear axle made, because it's so narrow and long that I'd be sketched out thinking it'd always want to flip.. and if u made it wider it would overall probably feel more planted

    • @TIRESIDE
      @TIRESIDE  6 місяців тому +1

      I agree. We did put large spacers on the rear wheels to widen it but didn’t make a huge difference. I was actually surprised how tippy it felt even after being lowered so much.

    So did you try to heat the sleeve when it was in the press?.. and... was that a deep well socket?.. I used sockets the same way many times!. But.. it woulda been complicated if you were to heat the sleeve sense it prolly wasn't long enough.. ida drilled a hole in the bottom plate myself so the bolt would pass threw.. sucks sometimes but making tools for a job makes things easier sometimes.. love this build and wasnt to do the same sense my kids outgrew their 4wheeler.. its a 2stroke so I'm thinking I can tip the moter up for more room and just keep the drive sprocket where it is to avoid a full rear end mod

    Good video but i have a solution to your rusty chain. Take equal amounts of molassis & water blend it thoroghly. Soak the chain keeping a close eye on the progress. Just remember not to leave it for too long as the combination of water & molassis can disolve the steel. Hope this helps with future indevors.

    Ultra late to this but the reason your steering angle is bad is because your handlebars have been lowered down so far. Compared to the original quad's steering angle, you've lost quite a bit with how far down the handlebars are now. Not hating, that's just what happens in this situation. Looks really fun.
