  • Daniel Rolling was also known as the Gainesville Ripper. Due to short timeframe of his crimes he didn’t get the same publicity as some of the more well known criminal personalities. Join me in my latest True Crime episode where I go through his upbringing and how this heinous individual was formed and what terrible crimes he undertook.

Emma, I truly would like to apologize for being discriminative against your channel because of my ignorance. I tried listening to your videos & got very frustrated because I could not understand you, so I quit listening. I am from the US & wasn’t used to your language, so I assumed I just wasn’t going to get it. However, I knew I was just being lazy by not giving myself enough credit & not giving you enough respect to at least try. I decided to sit down and listen to a few of your videos continuously & learned that I was also missing out on one of the best true crime channels out there. I have been bingeing on all true crime for several months & I have a few favorites in the US, but you definitely by far my favorite. I love how honest & heartfelt you are & appreciate how respectful you are, not only the victims, but to all the loved ones. Thanks so much for what you do. By the way, I have to get me one of your “Bang to Rights” shirt, love that slogan❤

You did an excellent job with this case as usual Emma. I was in my late twenties at the time this happened and lived in Orlando Fl. which is just a couple hours from the murders. When the news came out of this, both of my roommates were gone at the time, and the news was warning everyone in the central Florida area that this man is on the loose. It was night when I first heard of it so I grabbed the largest knife in the kitchen. I was constantly checking every door and window to make sure they were secure. I was honestly hyperventilating from fear for hours until my male roommate, the brother of my female roommate, came home. You can just imagine the relief I felt when he walked in the door. He'd been on a scuba diving excursion in the Keys and had not heard the news so seeing me walking around with a huge butcher knife kind of freaked him out. LOL I was able to sleep like a baby that night with a male in the house. Thankfully, I didn't know about Rollings killing the young man yet.

My biggest complaint with police investigation, here in the USA, is they look for the quickest solution rather than following ALL the evidence. DNA has saved more people from false charges and imprisonments than any other forensic advancement. My son daughter and her boyfriend were harassed (pulled from their vehicle, separated, handcuffed, questioned and threatened) by police after just leaving my home. There was a robbery earlier, which they were accused of committing. However, the car was a different make, there were 2 perps not 3, they were both make, and they were "very dark skinned" while my kids are white.
Having grown up under severe child abusive parents who went so far as to support the child rapists in my family, there is not compassion for this horror of a human. I have 4 brothers and 3 sisters, not one harms others in this way. We were told everyday we should never have been born and therefore deserved the abuse we received and should be grateful for being allowed to breathe.I have known others with similar abuse histories who do no harm to others.

If you want a truly harrowing US case, the case of Cherish Perrywinkle is absolutely devastating. The poor little girl was so beautiful and her killer is one of the most disgusting people to walk the earth. Her mother will likely make you a bit angry as well...I blame her a little, although she didn't make him do what he did. I have not seen any UA-camrs cover this one and she deserves to be remembered. Emma if you see this - thank you so much for protecting the mentally ill, abuse survivors & anyone else from the false, alarmist, damaging stereotypes about violence.
My husband lives with paranoid schizophrenia & I have seen him scared that someone is after him/us. It's real for him & his response is to hide or run. He wants to be armed in case they get in, but understands we can't be armed because he cannot know what's real. He has never been aggressive, violent or anything but gentle. When he thinks someone is targeting him, he avoids them.
Mentality ill people are much more likely to be victims of a crime than perpetrators. If they do commit a crime, it's scary because it's usually them feeling cornered & acting out of genuine fear, but it may be a delusion & an innocent person, or a law enforcement officer, could get hurt.
In those exceptionally rare instances, the media (at least in the states), jumps on it & replays until people feel it's a daily occurrence to be expected of schizophrenics.
I am 45 & I think I've heard of maybe 3 incidents - and I do try to track them. It's far, far, far less frequent than the typical psychotic. And, though watching true crime can make it seem otherwise, even that is rare.
I am an abuse survivor & have never intentionally hurt someone in my life. Mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually. I know what I went through & I don't want to inflict that on others. Most of us don't.
So while it's true that abusers were often abused, and molesters were usually molested, that in no way means the majority of survivors carry out any of their pain on others. Some want to forget, others want to actively put good out in the world. It's a very small minority who opt to continue an abuse cycle.

I was playing with a pocket mirror thru the whole store then we got home & I still had it. My mom was like "You stole that" My 3yr old self explained that "No, I borrowed it, we will bring it back" Then she proceeds to call the police on me for stealing, so while she put ME on the phone with this police officer, I was bawling the whole time while I was told how bad that was, I was lucky I wasn't going to jail because I seemed like a nice little girl & so on. Scared to leave my house for days after cause I knew the cops were waiting on me😂🤣😂🤣 Years later, like not until I was an adult, I found out that police officer was my aunt. Hi Emma! I have been watching you for quite a while - just never participated in the comment section or live chats. But YAY! I recently did join your channel! When I saw the members only videos, I had to have them!
I decided to comment now because of your story about your dad “calling”the orphanage. Man did that hit home so hard! My sister and I were about the same ages, maybe she was four and I was eight. My mother said she was going to have the orphanage come and pick us up. But she went further than that. Because we hadn’t cleaned our rooms to her liking, she collected all of our toys and stuffed animals, threw them into garbage bags, and disposed of them in the dumpster at the back of our house. Then she made me and my sister stand outside of the closed garage door by ourselves, waiting for the orphanage to come and get us. It wasn’t until our dad got home from work that we felt safe and were allowed back in the house. I don’t even know how many hours we were out there, but it was a very long time.
I also have to say that hearing how these serial killers grew up, almost scares me. I had so many of the same things happen to me. When you were describing Jeffrey Dahmer’s childhood, you could have been describing mine. To a T! (Aside from the animal dissections)
Our childhoods were exactly the same. Both ignored, father never home, mother very mentally ill, and she even went through a really bad pregnancy just like Dahmer’s mom did. In fact, I think Dahmer and I were the same age when our siblings were born and things just got even worse.
I hope I get to meet you someday and talk with you. I have extreme admiration for you with all that you have achieved. Also, maybe you can explain to me why I did not grow up to become a serial killer !!!! From the sounds of it, I should have!! I actually credit my schooling for saving me and keeping me grounded and giving me the outlook on life that I have today.
I just want to thank you so much for caring about all of these people whose lives were cut too short and for carrying on their legacies by telling their stories to people like me, who otherwise never would have known them. I appreciate you and all of the time and dedication you put into this channel. That’s another reason I joined because I think you are amazing and I want to support you in any way that I can. Oh, and congratulations by the way! Listening to you talk about your children and just children in general blows my mind. I didn’t know people felt that way about children. My mother certainly did not. My problems are for another day.
Once again, thank you so much Emma for all that you do. Your dedication is at a level that I’ve never seen from anyone else before. Take care and give that baby a kiss from me. 🥰

About killers having abusive family relationships…..I absolutely agree that it is imperative for children to hear they are loved. I worked in child protection for 13 years and even if a parent couldn’t provide a home or was abusing drugs, all the kids wanted to know was that they were loved.
I have been extremely fortunate to have an amazing mother and father that always told my sister and I that they loved us and made sure we had everything we needed. I work at a school now, and my mother still asks to buy clothes and supplies for children in need. Mom will go without so that someone less fortunate can have something. My mom and dad have been together 43 years, it hasn’t all been sunshines and rainbows, but they always made sure and still make sure we know we are loved. Now my children are lucky to have them as grandparents and know how much they’re loved, I think more than they love me, lol 😂
I agree with you about 97% of the time, but I absolutely appreciate your views and the opinions and facts you share. It always makes me think about things.
I haven’t checked, but have you ever heard of Larry Eyler from Crawfordsville, IN? I just heard about him while watching Making a Murderer Part 2. Thought you could do a really amazing job with this case.
Thank you for all you do and for doing such an amazing job! Much love from Delaware, U.S.A. ❤️

I have a fun fact about Danny Rolling. While in prison he met the love of his life. She was a writer and she contacted him about writing a book about his life and immediately sparks flew and they fell in love. A story as old as time. She professed her love him in the press and he returned the sentiment by singing her love songs when called to testify in court. True love. Until a younger woman wrote him one letter and he immediately dumped this woman and became engaged to the younger woman. She gave an interview talking about how he broke her heart and she was completely blindsided by the fact he betrayed her. I have no answers on why the fact he murdered and raped women didn't ring alarm bells that he may not be a decent man. When Danny was asked about it this was his reply.
"You know you may find this hard to believe because of the crimes I've been convicted of but believe it or not I do know how to treat a woman right and with the respect they deserve".
    I'm dead serious.

Enjoy! I would include a timestamp but Danny is the very first person on the episode and his whole section is about the incident I explained. I tried looking up to see if the new woman attended his execution but I couldn't find any information. I was genuinely curious to see if they stayed together. He didn't mention her in his final statement so I don't know. I believe this includes the quote I included so brace yourself for that. It shocked me when I heard it. It was one of those weird things that popped into my recommended and I couldn't find the remote but it was an experience to watch. I don't know about you but if a man tried to seduce me by singing me a love song while in court I would die from embarrassment and pray to God it didn't end up on Twitter. The first woman, Sondra, looked like she was flattered and since she uploaded them on UA-cam she must of been. Bizarre

Emma, the way you so vividly describe the sense of safety & security the victims would have had by using everything we can relate to..locking doors/windows at night, falling asleep on a sofa, every victims story becomes more than “things like this don’t happen here” instead I can see it, feel it and imagine the fear. The media detaches people from the reality of the crime sometimes, you do a fantastic job of making it human again :)

He would spank my uncle for crying too much when he was a toddler and it traumatized my uncle, who dealt with addiction all of his life until his suicide. My grandfather had a temper before the war but when he came back he was way worse. He wasn't anywhere near as bad as Rolling's father but he did go too far at times with my uncle.

The way you said Shreveport the 3rd time is how you correctly pronounce it Emma. Although those of us who are born and raised here in Shreveport tend to leave out the V when saying it. So it comes out Shreeport. I've known who Danny Rolling is my whole life. He became something of a local boogie man to little kids. Unfortunately some of my family use to associate with him many of years ago. I remember being a kid and older cousins telling us to stay in the yard or else Danny Rolling might walk up and kill us.. Thank you for Talking about this case. I truly appreciate the time and research you put into all of these cases and crimes. I can hear a case done a dozen times. When a person on death row goes to bed the night before his/her execution they have to spend all night with that. Lots of people die in car crashes, but they don't go to bed the night before knowing this is their last night.

Hello Emma, I've been listening to your videos for quite a while and subscribed ever since I found your video on Clare Nicholls, that is a case I see almost no UA-camr talk about.
You managed to talk about horrific details of the worst cases and still remain respectful of the victims and maintain their dignity, that makes you stand out in my opinion.
I wonder if you ever heard of the case of Katie Rackliff? The killer is Sharon Carr and she's the UK's youngest female killer by age of 12 and the case is very unusual and bizarre, she seems to be one of those killers that would've been a serial killer if she had the opportunity to.
This case is talked about by almost no one on UA-cam.
