    Glad you became a Nurse.... I have been a nurse 5 years and I see not point of anyone being a cna unless their using it for a stepping stone.... It is hard heavy work and they need to be paid more

      Being a CNA is how you become a good nurse! If you haven't worked as a CNA you're probably the kind of nurse that is only there to pass pills and not care for the patients.

      Twylight Weekends Twylight Weekends 100% disagree you can give you resident good care without being a CNA. I know a lot of nurses that were CNA before. They say I'm a nurse now, I'm not a CNA.
      I began my shift by greeting everyone of my residents. You will be surprised how many times I have found, I had a resident out, a resident past, resident moved, resident has a cast on their leg and had not recieved that information in report. I try to lay eyes on my residents at least hourly, while awake. Every 2 hours while asleep. I also try to get to know my residents. It makes assessments a lot easier. I worked at one place that a resident had been head of the masons for the state. He had been there over 10 years. I was the first to find out he was a Mason. It can take 15 minutes a day to make your 30 resident feel better, asses them, drasticly reduce falls, and find what was missed in report. Or 20 minutes to send ONE person to ER and all the paperwork.

      A nurse doesn't leave CNA responsibilities behind. When they get that degree they assume more responsibilities. Every nurse should know CNA duties. It's hilarious how many "Nurses " I know that don't know how to place a catheter much less place a bed pan under their own patient. It's rediculous!

    • @MrsKearney
      @MrsKearney 6 років тому +18

      Miner Au I don't think you understood my reply. With that being said saying"Hi!" to a resident doesn't make you a good nurse. I'll say it again those who have worked as a CNA before becoming a nurse, are better now nurses! Period, point, blank.

    I've been a CNA for 6 years and I am at the point where I am completely done with that kind of work. You don't feel appreciated, the work is never ending, more often than not we have to work short staffed, and the pay doesn't match the amount of work you are expected to do. And you are spot on with some people thinking that CNA's are replaceble. I even heard a nurse once say that "CNA's are a dime a dozen." Yes, not every resident or coworker will be an asshole, but for me I was just tired of it. Like, you know it's time to leave a job (or certain type of work) when you HATE going there.

    Congratulations! But if anyone is getting into nursing for the appreciation....you will be VERY disappointed. As a nurse or a CNA you see people in ways they should not be seen, and that is something that is a privilege but can also be a curse. Good Luck to you all you future CNAs, LPNs, and RN. -A. I relate to this so much! I am a CNA, been one for a year and a half. When you start as a CNA and you've never worked in healthcare before, it's a shell shocker. Now looking into LPN program . Yes, most people look down on LPN program and say go for RN.... But if you're a CNA, and you go for RN , that's 2-4 years of school, and while in school, that's 2-4 years of being a CNA.... Unless you get a different job while in school. LPN program is only one year. Huge difference.

    I am on the other side of the spectrum. I fell out of love with sitting behind a desk and fell in love with taking care of people. As a CNA, I can honestly say it's my calling, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. You either enjoy taking care of people and all the not so good stuff that comes along with it or you don't. I'm good as a CNA for now, even though I have a degree in business administration with a minor in HR. I just feel more confident knowing at the end of day, the person I am taking care of will feel loved and special.

    Just started my 1st clinical job and I HATE it. Some of the other CNA's have attitudes and are not friendly and make it toxic. Administration is okay. I already know what to expect from them. Lastly, the RN Nurse's DON'T help at ALL. Like no one taught you patient care. It opened my eyes to pursue clinical lab sciences. It's behind the scenes, no patient care and just your Petri Dishes and Technology to diagnose diseases and illness. I'm so over being a C.N.A I was dumb and naive and did not do enough research before diving all the way in. Anyway, we live and learn. Too do loo. ✨🌟💛

      YES! I think the overall quality of lower or entry level employees in any field is just so bad right now, but in nursing there should be a higher standard. And you are right, its like management loves loud, ignorant and troublesome employees, but they will reprimand the ones that work the hardest. Its a flawed system. But you keep being you and lead by example, bc at the end of the day patients need people who really care.

    That's exactly what happened to me! I became bitter! So bitter to the point I can not even think of becoming a nurse! I am angry, my feet hurt and I'm full of rage for allowing myself to be a CNA for 10 long years!!! My heart misses the job of helping, caring and relationships you build with your clients or patients but I cannot go back to that type of work under the circumstances I left. You are right I am bitter 😢. It saddens me to tears because CNA could be good work but everyone is so hateful in this career. The facility I last worked for we had 20 sometimes 40 to 1 I'm not lying. I would always get the bulk of the residents or the heavier sets because I came there to work and to care and they knew that. This in turn gave me a bad attitude with my coworkers. It also affected my quality of work. All I know is CNA work. I haven't worked as a CNA in a year don't think I can go back😔😢

      Twylight Weekends , I feel you ! when I was 19, starting out in nursing homes, I could have up to 45 a night, I use to go home smelling like a toilet from cleaning up these old folks. what you need to look into is hospital work,it pays more, better insurance and benefits, and u never have more than 10 patients , plus 1/2 of ur patients may be young and self care. u do vital signs mostly . look into it before u give up, there's better options

    Why have I stuck with it so long? Because I love my people. The elderly are so disrespected and unloved. They need someone who really cares.

    Great video! I really appreciate this I'm a cna for 10 years. I honestly love my job the only thing that makes me not want to be a cna is the pay and the un appreciation from the administration and a few nurses that just dont get it, when they should get it! we cna"s work very hard we are caregivers friends family to our residents we are the heartbeat of the facility hospital or home if we are working agency in home care. You have to love this job to do it and be great at it. I'm a awesome cna with a girl bye attitude towards administration and those bad wanna mess with you nurses lol but I'm great at my job I'm not blatantly disrespectful and insubordinate but I will set you straight if you come for me with a big smile! My residents and patients or clients gets all my energy and love all my smiles and attention and most family members also everyone I work with or for gets my respect. its a good learning experience and has it rewards myself I'm 55 so its time for me to move on maybe back to retail the lifting is starting to get to me, but who knows maybe I will go to grave shift thanks again sister I have enjoyed all your videos. Thank you so much. There is nothing like a great CNA. They make and break you as a nurse and facility. If you do decide to do something different than CNA do you think you'll still do CNA on the side? It seems like it would be so hard to walk away from the profession. But things have def changed in the healthcare field, just in the 5 years that I've been in it. I can imagine all the changes you've experienced. I wonder a lot of times how it can get back to patients first and people having pride in what they do. And nothing is worse to the nursing team than a lazy nurse. We ALL need to work together. As a nurse you should never see anything or anyone as beneath you, but it's so many nurses that look down on aides. Maybe I should do a vid about this?
      Thanks for the inspiration and thanks for watching my vids.
      Good luck on your next journey.

    Girl I really enjoyed your video. I went to school for CNA when I was residing in NOLA after I got out of the service and literally the first day we went to the nursing home to actually work with patients I Walked out and quit! I’ve always wanted to become a rn but wanted to get a taste of what nursing would be like. Not the same! In my personal experience cna’s are flunkies for nurses. I definitely want to comment on this video about you. You are an extremely articulate young woman which I also see you are intelligent and ambitious! I predict you becoming a teaching/traveling nurse as well! I don’t want to make this a extremely long comment but just wanted to chime in and give you your props bc I i see you going farther in the nursing field than you ever will anticipate. You should be really proud of your accomplishments so far, but I feel your not done with your academic training. Good job sister girl and continue to rise👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    Thanks for being so honest. I am trying to avoid going into a nursing home. I am a full quadriplegic. I have 6 caregiver's and I work from home part-time. God has blessed me with people in my life and I have upgraded my house through nonprofit and having some money.
    I would like to try to be an advocate for poor people because what you are saying is totally true and probably will happen to most people. They do not believe in the human suffering. I think they treat animals better than people. I hired a lawyer to remain in my home and get total care.
    case manager told me most people get 6 to 8 hours and then are sent off to a death camp (nursing home).
    Fortunately I heard the lawyer I return from National Institutes of Health where I was featured on the minutes. I really found out from the bottom up how should leave this program works.
    I have been video blogging with people around the world since 2008. It is so sad for both people.
    I am afraid of suffering. I wish it can happen instantly. I have spent 20 days in the hospital/rehab. I ultimately stay-at-home "in my own nursing home"
    Tomorrow I have to train A caregiver by myself. Christine

I love nursing but the role as a cna is so below me I know I deserve more and the ppl tht work at these facilities can't give that ! U got fellow cnas trynna get u fired u got to ask the for help 20 times to transfer a patient u got clicks n some more shit it's a mess !!!

    When you're working on a late stage dementia unit sometimes you have to run from one residents to another b/c ones PSA or TABS alarm starts going off & you don't want them on the floor cause then you'll be held accountable! For me I hate working the rehab unit..most of them are so needy & rude..I love my dementia residents but I hate what hospice comes in & does to them when I know their condition & their abilities when I'm w/ them 5 days/wk!

    I’m starting nursing school next summer and currently I work as a CNA but I swear to god..... I’m quitting after this summer and doing a regular campus job until I graduate because I really cannot. It’s not even the tasks, like I got over the smells and poop and fluids and stuff I just dislike working in memory care so much. And I feel like I smell after work. Yeah I’d rather have a campus job again

      @114avataraang 6 років тому +1

      Samantha Canela Same here. I just started a month ago. I’m already used to the crap and other bodily fluids and smells. The reason I wanna quit is cuz of how unfair it is to the residents that I’m assigned so many patients and I can’t give them the attentive care they deserve. Call lights on for 45 minutes. It’s just not right. And I feel guilty but I know it’s not always my fault because I can’t clone myself to help everyone at once. Thinking a reputable hospital may be better if they’ll even hire someone with only one month of experience.

    I entered a CNA Paid Training Program at one of the local nursing homes where I lived. The program is one week of orientation and six weeks of class. The hospital pays for the CNA certification test. If you recieve your certfifcation, employees have to work for a year. If they don't work for a year they have to pay back a $1000.00. I started as a Unit helper. Everyone starts as a Unit Helper. I worked for a hospital that had actually put me in inpatient after I was poisoned with antifreeze when I was pregnant and had not helped me medically. A major reason I wanted this job was so that I could protect people who could not advocate for themselves. I wanted the job so much that I worked for a hospital that had caused me severe psychological trauma. Everytime I stepped foot in that hospital, I had severe flashbacks. I had no car, so I actually biked from my house to the hospital THREE times. The distance from my house to the hospital was 11.6 miles. I got annoyed as hell with one of the head nurses. During ny physical testing for the job, she goes, "Oh, do you want to just wear the uniform, because it's cute?" I bit my tongue and said nothing. A lot of the nurses treat you like shit and then expect you to smile. Im not the type of person who will tolerate being treated like shit and then smile. The other students in the CNA Training Program could be major bitches too. Another group in the same program had students that bullied one girl so badly, she had a break down and left the program. But still the students who were bullying her stayed. During one lab class where I was practicing teeth brushing, I had missed a couple steps. my partner Kayla and her friend Heather laughed at me every time I messed up. Kayla called me a bitch during the excersize. I reported Kayla to management and nothing was done about it. I really hated going to work after that. There were so many clicky snot nosed brats that were in this program. They gathered in their stupid little groups and bad mouthed other students. I got fed up with and ended up not wanting to show for class, just to avoid their stupidity. The flashbacks made it hard for me to pay attention during labs, causing me to miss some of the steps the instructor would teach us. I got so anxious I threw up a couple of times. I went for at least a few weeks until the instructor finally pulled me aside. She told me she did not believe my heart was in this, which pissed me off severely. My anxiety and the dicks in my class actually kept me from wanting to return to class. I wanted more than anything to care for the residents in the home. Then the head nurse goes on to tell me she doesn't think the Medical field is for me. I think it's funny that she doubts I could be a caregiver because I took very good care of my cousin after she had a stroke. The instructor said that may grades were on tests were very good and that I'm very intelligent, (my lowest test grade was an 85) but that I'm not progressing with CNA skills. She said she believes my anxiety is standing in the way of me performing my skills, but that once I get over my fear, I should return and try to take the program again. I can assure you I will never return to that shit hole of a hospital

    • @davidwatson6831
      @davidwatson6831 3 роки тому

      @Alicia Clayton don't give up on your dreams to become a caregiver, I can truly attest to this type of treatment that goes on. Even though I'm not in the Medical Field, I understand. I come from a similar field and it's the same thing. Let me first tell you this prayer is the first thing I would recommend and second that Hospital, that Skilled Nursing Facility, Geriatric Care Facility, Assisted Living Facility, and that Hospital Nursing Program was not for you. I would love for you to look into your areas Career & Technical Training Schools, Community & Technical Colleges, or even your areas University Office or Division of Continual Education & Professional Development Training. I also wanted to tell you their are different areas where a CNA can work and their are also different levels of a CNA just like in Nursing. A lot of nurses tend to forget where the foundation of Nursing begins in and let their titles and alphabet soup letters dictate what they will and will not do. Speaking from someone who has family in the medical and educational field. A Superintendent of Schools cannot educate everyone on his own from Central Office Personnel, to Student Support Services Personnel, to Building Level Personnel it takes a team approach and effort to bring individuals from illiteracy to literacy. It's the same thing in the medical field the Hospitals CEO had to work with the Hospital's C-Suite Team, Hospital's Personnel Administration Team, Physicians and Surgeons whether M.D. D.O., or N.D., Primary Care Practitioner's: P.A. or N.P., Clinicians: BSN RN, ADN/Diploma RN, or LPN, or Healthcare Support Personnel: P.M., M.A., PCT, or CNA. It takes a team approach, but in Healthcare they are trying so hard to move to a Primary Approach to Healthcare so they can cut services and revenue. This indeed puts individuals lives in Jeopardy....

I didnt realize a activities director was near by. Well, besides, i do talk to higher ups when i really need to. Idk, i think most ppl r iffy in general regardless of wever were doing. I've been a direct care counselor, regular counselor and case manager in a transitional housing. I hated the clients there and you definitely get paid less than what you deserve. So I was trying to do CNA to get out of that job. The company i worked for pays less to employees and they admit doing so. I don't mind bathing, wiping butts, etc to patients as I am use to that. I just didn't like working in the residence with substance abuse clients who disrespect you and your life is always at risk. So I hope this whole CNA is a good stepping stone for me.

    Girl the similarities between me and you are uncanny. I have been a nursing assistant for about 8 years now but I came from a daycare. I had never done any kind of tasks related to nursing when I started my first job I never wanted to be a nurse until I became a CNA. Mind you now I'm in my third semester of nursing school (RN) but the transition from being a daycare teacher to nursing assistant in my first year it chewed me up and spit me out. I have always had good bedside manner but I had to learn time management and during my training I only had like four patients and once I came out of training I went in the having 12 to 20 patient and it was totally different.

    Where I live, CNA's make what a Walmart or McDonald's cashier makes - $11 an hour. Hell Walmart's stockers make $15 an hour just stocking shelves, $16.50 if you go overnight. CNA and LVN's are criminally underpaid in East Texas!!!!!!

    I have three questions.
    1. Why are some CNA’s so mean and catty? Picking on others and gossiping. Like why? Is it because it’s an entry level job and therefore low class people take the jobs?
    2. Do you get the same level of meanness and gossip in the nursing field.
    3. Is nursing as hard on your body and as stressful as being a CNA?
    Thanks

    Ok. After reading some other people’s comments I’ve decided to throw my 2 cents in. First of all, yes being a CNA does make you a better nurse! That doesn’t mean that you can’t be a good nurse without being a CNA first but it usually makes you stand out among the rest! Second, being a CNA is not just a good stepping stone on your way to becoming a nurse! In my 21 years in nursing I can tell you that being a CNA is as much of if not more a calling than a nurse because you choose to continue breaking your back to help people. However a lot of older cna’s I know are in better shape than me! And a lot of them absolutely love what they do! They never became nurses because they didn’t want to. And as a former CNA now nurse I really take offense to people saying that they only did CNA work to get into nursing school. Please don’t discredit this admirable profession like that! Like they wouldn’t have cared for those people like that if it wasn’t going to boost them in some way! And there’s always gonna be the good and the bad nurses and cna’s! I prefer to focus on the good and try to help the others become better by teaching them to respect themselves and their profession! We are a very powerful sisterhood and brotherhood and need to support each other! So stop being mean to people! It makes me go off on crazy UA-cam rants! 😂

    I got into the field, because I wanted to make sure I could handle it before moving along to Nursing. Since, I've became a CNA I've met many Nurses that freaked out about almost everything they've seen. That's why it pays to be a CNA first. I'm finally, back in school 11 months later to become a RN. The whole CNA thing is really a lot of work, and the pay sucks for everything you have to do. I still feel like it's a good start and definitely makes you humble as a Nurse.

      Bruh its always that bad and somexs workers dont show up and ppl expect you to stay till they show up. Somexs theyre late and dont even show up and expect u to do rounds before you leave or shifts before u obviously leave work behind and ppl r always getting over on ppl and the residents switch back on and off. Its like 50 first dates is the only way i can explain it. Then you gotta deal w/ families in & out & it feels like ur under a microscope while they expect u to have x ray vision. And then from being a house cleaner to the entertainer to the waitress to the date to meet to the parents... to the security guard to the therapist to the friend to the messenger... right back to the worker ...at least it makes the day go by quicker. Its all kinds of messy in there. Those hellyens get into everything or get into it w/ u. Theres 1 dude who g.d*mn's me all the time bc i wont let him be a douche. He pees any and everywhere, pulls his junk out any & everywhere (males & females somexs just randomly "streak"...) invades everyones space, & Never keeps his hands to himself. Pretty sure hes my least favorite bc he fr hurts ppl

    speaking of long-term care, we had am awful psych patient on the telemetry floor stay for TWO MONTHS bc she came in with a huge wound on her foot that took forever to heal and no facility would take her until the wound was gone smh. she was so disrespectful and exhausting to the staff and how she wanted to go somewhere else but then when it was time to leave she was upset about leaving and saying how she just got used to this place and didn't want to go somewhere new. it was like honey this is a hospital not a nursing home and you should've been KICKED OUT not discharged a LONG time ago

    I go in for my skills exam in two days, I have ZERO plans in staying as a CNA. I did my two 12 hour shifts at a place and I legit HATED IT. I have goals to work in PEDS or Obstetrics. Possibly Ortho, because my fiance's ankle is super fucked up, my knee needs surgery, and our kids are going to be extremely active. But my two days in that facility were literally two of the most stressful days of my life. Patients were rude, some of the men would sexually harass me and some of my classmates, and the whole place smelled like urine. I got home my first day and my fiance couldn't even hug me I smelled so bad. What sucks is that I can't get a job at the hospital in my city until I have at least 6 months experience in a facility. And the only hours available are 12 hour shifts. I need to be in a place where I earn enough to get a new apartment for me and my fiance and our dog and it's so rare that people will allow a dog where we live.

    I started very young as 'CNA love my job went back to school as Med Aide you can't even get a job as that yes it stressful over whelming hard work surely break your body down .lifting pulling .yes go back to school .please don't get mad at what I say I just disagree how you talking about their adl care these schools these days must not be taking student through whole nine yard we went for 8 month and had to do on the job training in the 70s it's hard work but that end of the day you taken care someone Mother Father grandmother grandfather brother sister aunt uncle son daughter sister neice nephews so just be careful baby how you word your teaching case the wrong person may see this as offensive as I did .but it's your opinion you have a,right to that but it was tearful.cause one day you going to get old.remember baby you may need that same care.so be careful what you speak they can't help it .it's part of growing old.I know the job not appreciated. we get call on All the time by nurses some have no compassion for CNA. but until you have experience it.you can't know how it feel when your charge nurse try over work you.but me I stand my ground you will not .I do what I see fit it's my job not yours.glas you change your career if not some aide become over tiered and they attitude sucks.no patient you must have that good luck on your video just be carefully how you word your words keep it 100 professional.
