They are very serious about educating their kids about what happened, what went wrong and why it can never happen again. Holocaust denial is an actual crime in Germany. Their stories don't match up with what the Japanese are taught in the slightest. Lived “on the economy” in Germany for three years as a USAF officer. What an extraordinarily clean, beautiful, efficient, and well-organized country. I found the German people on the whole to be charming, hardworking, and brutally candid. I came away with a deep respect and admiration for Germany and her lovely people.

TBH, having lived in China, I can tell you that the Imperial Japanese were not appreciably better people than the Nazis. They were just less methodical and clinical about it and then rather than having their cities only destroyed with regular munitions, they had the good luck to be hit with nukes which seems to have gotten them off the hook for a lot of it. Really, it's a myth that there were any good guys in WWII as they all commit extreme acts that would now be considered to be crimes against humanity, what with the Allies firebombing Dresden despite a complete lack of any actual military facilities and the Soviets engaging in acts of retribution as they took over more of the formerly occupied territories.

Obviously I know it's a joke, but the idea of Germans not knowing what happened in 1939-45 is really far from the mark. They are very serious about educating their kids about what happened, what went wrong and why it can never happen again. Holocaust denial is an actual crime in Germany.

Lived “on the economy” in Germany for three years as a USAF officer. What an extraordinarily clean, beautiful, efficient, and well-organized country. I found the German people on the whole to be charming, hardworking, and brutally candid. I came away with a deep respect and admiration for Germany and her lovely people.

TBH, having lived in China, I can tell you that the Imperial Japanese were not appreciably better people than the Nazis. They were just less methodical and clinical about it and then rather than having their cities only destroyed with regular munitions, they had the good luck to be hit with nukes which seems to have gotten them off the hook for a lot of it.
Really, it's a myth that there were any good guys in WWII as they all commit extreme acts that would now be considered to be crimes against humanity, what with the Allies firebombing Dresden despite a complete lack of any actual military facilities and the Soviets engaging in acts of retribution as they took over more of the formerly occupied territories.
