The firing squad is a go-to for me... I make mine with a repasado mezcal, and the grenadine recipe you taught us. Served over crushed ice, it's rather tiki-esq!
El Diablo - (2) tequilla (3/4) lime (1/2) creme de cassis (2-3) ginger beer. Sometimes you can dial back the ginger beer for a more liquor forard version. VTasty!!
Cheers. I made The Matador with a few tweaks (I had an open bottle of vermouth and wasn’t about to buy another bottle just for this): 25 ml Reposado Tequila (Altos) 25 ml dry Vermouth (Dolin) 25 ml Orange Curaçao (Giffard) 30 ml fresh pineapple juice 15 ml fresh lime juice 5 ml agave syrup 1 dash Angostura Bitters Loved it so much I made another one within fifteen minutes.
I followed your Firing Squad build using a reposado mezcal and added a slice of jalapeño and a few grains of salt to the shaker, and it's really hitting the spot. This is my favorite kind of tequila drink: sweet, spicy, smoky, and tart.
@@N1120A The monks have decided to not increase production to meet demand, because making and selling booze is not their primary objective. Kind of a bummer, but it is what it is, and ya gotta respect their decision.

Glad to see different type of Tequila cocktails! Thanks a lot for that. It would be interesting to have another video with Mezcal drinks! Geetings from Tijuana México and... Salud! (Cheers!)
Might have to make that Matador; that thing looks delicious. Man, if you could introduce me to some more good stirred-down aged/dark rum drinks that would be amazing. I love a rum old-fashioned or negroni, but they are hard to come by.
These all look great. I'll try all 3 this week. If you've ever been to Rome there's an excellent bar called La Punta Expendio de Agave which has an insane amount of tequilas on their bar and walls. Definitely worth a late night visit if you're in the city in Trastevere
An update to my post, I made of these and they are all great. It shows how tequila can be a more than just a margarita spirit. I didn't have any sherry, but used sweet vermouth and Toreador turned out very nice anyway. I might turn down the agage down to maybe half though, but who knows as I used sweet vermouth........
I watched some of your older videos on lunch break at work today and knowing you upload every Friday I’ve been waiting all day for this video! Much love from Sweden :)
The Mexican Firing Squad as you make it is one of my favorite drinks. Got it added to the back of bar reference at my regular cocktail spot, I've ordered it so much.
Great video, as per norm. Thank you for your awesome creative content! Also, I bought your hat a few weeks ago and I totally love it! The hat is distinctive and subtle at the same time. Cheers!
I love the Mexican Firing Squad but completely agree- quality grenadine is a must. Cheap grenadine can leave it tasting kinda like... cough syrup, I suppose.
Question: what's the difference between an old fashioned glass and a low-ball? My favorite tequila drinks are 1) my take on the black Russian replacing the vodka with tequila; 2) my take on the Negroni substituting tequila for the gin, and 3) straight up in a glass... blanco, repo, anejo, extra anejo, I love them all. I love a good margerita, as well, but stick close to the classic there, tequila, lime juice, orange liquor.
Good timing, I just bought my first bottle of tequila last week and was searching through your video for cocktails to make that weren’t margaritas! Keep up the great content ❤
THE MATADOR looks delicious, definitely trying that one. You know Anders ive never tried sherry before. I think it’s time. What is your most favorite sherry cocktail?
Anders, just recently discovered/subscribed to your channel, and I am very impressed! There are so many that I want to try. But, I was wondering if you can point me to any of your videos that focus on non-sweet cocktails. Sweet is so prevalent in mixed drinks, but I am really on the hunt for non-sweet cocktails. Of course I love the martini, and the family of Rickeys (e.g. Gin Rickey, especially if you scale back on citrus juice and eliminate any syrups), but I don't know about much else. If you have not already made a video on non-sweet cocktails, would you????
Very excited to try these - especially the Matador. Our two tequila faves after margaritas are El Diablo and Paloma (and we do several variations of this).
Just recently found your channel and I’m loving it! Super excited to try out some of your amazing recipes. I’ve watched all of your bar stocking/equipment videos and was hoping you might make an ultimate (“money is not an issue”) bar buildout video. Not that I could afford it, but it would be interesting and something to aspire towards over the years.
I have prickly pear balsamic vinegar; I have been wanting to try making a margarita with. Any thoughts ? Would a prickly pear syrup or jam be better ? My favorite tequila drink is a paloma
Great video. But you're missing my favorite tequila cocktail--the Dead Man's Handle. It introduces another great combination: Tequla and Orgeat. The Dead Man's Handle is on my short list of favorite cocktails.
I have a WILD tequila (mezcal) drink my wife and I messed with. It's insane but great! - 2oz Vida Mezcal (smoky) - 1oz Creme di violette - 3/4 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liquor - .5 oz fresh lemon juice A twist on an aviation with a LOT more depth/dense. It is delicious. But i'll be trying yours!
These all look great, and I have the ingredients for the first and last, so that's awesome, always love that! I was thinking, Anders... since I love going to your premade playlists to find something quick, it would be awesome if you had a playlist with all your drinks that use Sherry in them, since that doesn't have as long of a shelf life, so that it doesn't go bad for those of us that need some help on how to use it. Just a suggestion. Keep up with the awesome videos, as always!
If you are finding yourself in a situation where you don't know where to use your sherry - then try this. Ice cold, on the rocks. :D Sherry is so versatile. If you like the stuff Anders recommends then try diving into the different variations of sherry, it really is an incredible world.
I always add some agave nectar to basically any tequila drink. My margarita spec is somewhere in between the trad and the Tommy's. Gonna have to try your Toreador!
Anders thank you for always inspiring me with new drink recipes. I have improved my home bar skills and when i have people over they enjoy the drinks. I always let them know i got them from you 💯
apricot has been showing up a lot for me lately, I've been falling in love with the Charlie Chaplin, and actually have been using 1 part regular brandy and 1 part apricot liqueur to substitute for apricot brandy (kind of hate the apricot-flavored grape brandy and can't find a decent one from apricots locally). Plays nicely with both lemon and lime, although the Chaplin calls for lime. Try it out Anders, I bet you'll like it enough to do a video!
Love this and your videos! I'm wondering with the Toreador if it could be creatively adjusted with other fruit liqueurs? And the Matador sounds amazing...will try!
Anders, your cocktails are consistently complex and delicious. I love your stories and explanations for variance. You're really upping game; my friends and hubby thank you sir!
Thanks for the great tequila-based recipes! On a different note, would you consider doing a video on shrubs? They're something I've never tried making but am very curious about.

"The Mexican Firing Squad" is a wonderful cocktail to sip on - the grenadine really works with tequila The Angostura's brings some balance. Got some real grenadine sent to me today so had to try it.
Anders, many Mexican Firing Squad recipes (including the one I've been using) go with 2oz of Tequila. You go with 1.5. I'm curious; did you try it both ways and then decided you preferred to use less? What differences did you see?
Anders, just wanted to let you know, had a party Saturday with the UFC fights, and I made these with friends (about 5 of them) had little 'tasting' party... everyone loved them, but 1 and 3 were the favorites
Your timing is impeccable. I'm just gearing up for my yearly Cinco de Mayo/Star Wars event, and although nobody ever argues with a margarita bar, it'd be nice to offer something different for those few wanting a change of pace. I would give quite a bit for something I can tenuously tie back to Star Wars, though. Any ideas?
I was given a nice Viski mixing glass that came with a strainer. The strainer was too small for the glass, slipped inside the glass, got stuck, and broke the glass.
One of my non-margi tequila drinks is a mule I call Pequeno Burro. I might be the only one to call it that, but whatever. 2oz repasado tequila, 1/2oz lime juice in a rocks glass, and top off with ginger beer. It's a Moscow Mule, but with tequila. If I use bourbon, I call it a Kentucky Long Ear.
