I love all your videos, but I feel THIS is where you are "in your element" - classic cocktails, history, different variations.. THIS is what makes this channel so great, because it just comes so natural to you and therefore it's also really enjoyable and rewatchable! Cheers for another awesome video!
I agree with Dimitar. I would add that there’s nothing wrong with saying you like your own version better. Obviously you should, otherwise you’d have just made it the traditional way! Always enjoy Az being awkward on camera too 😂👍
I really like that Az is incorporated and an "unbiased" or maybe "less expirenced" palet. Usually her face reaction is better than any words to describe the cocktail! P.S. it is 2022... we all done the not change our cloths for at least a week thing
i agree -- it's the whole package, for sure, with the variations, the history, and the experienced tasting notes, PLUS the "person on the street" sort of perspective and description by Az. she speaks well for us all!
I can Absolutely say you have inspired me to get on a classic cocktail journey. This one is a must try. The original was made the same year my pops was born. So that adds another element of intrigue knowing this was a cocktail of that era. Also my great grandfather came in from Ireland and help do some construction in New Orleans. Cheers from Texas.
Getting read to host a Mardi Gras cocktail hour, and just did a side-by-side of all 3 of these Louisiana cocktails, Anders style. Man. They are all so good. But I think just because of the vermouth I had on hand, this one was the winner, and what I will serve for guests when they come over. The Sazerac was almost the winner here, but something about this one... Mmmm. Yes.
Trying both these versions tonight, the Sazerac is my favorite drink but these might make a run at it. And Az we love when you're in the videos. Your reactions to trying the drinks are so genuine.
I'm here to echo the sentiments below and above, Az segment at the end is just so great, you both have great chemistry and it come across brillaintly on camera!! Love this channel!
inspired me to take my barbacking job more seriously and push myself to bartend. always excited for the history of each drink you cover, and how you simplify drinks that may be daunting to people new to cocktails. keep it up❤️
So I’ve made the Sazerac several times. Finally acquired a small bottle of Benedictine, straight up has so much honey taste, the herbal taste came thru too. Made the Vieux Carre and both versions of the La Louisiane. All are great cocktails! We really like this channel, keep these classic cocktails coming! Thank you
We love to watch your videos and try new drinks. We just tried this one and really liked the updated version. We used Elijah Craig Straight Rye. Keep the videos coming!
We have a great De La Louisiane at Planter’s House in St Louis! We use a Planter’s House Knob Creek Single Barrel 115.0 Rye. I’m going to make this my shift drink tonight! Cheers!
DRINK SUBMISSION Smoked Sand 2 Oz Mezcal .75 Oz Cointreau .75 Oz Lemon .75 Oz Lime 1 Oz Pineapple Syrup (I used a 1.5-1 for a Semi-Rich Syrup) Combine all ingredients, shake and double strain over fresh ice into a highball glass of your choice. Garnish with pineapple or lime wheel. Adjust syrup level to you're taste this seems well balanced for me, but I prefer a tart drink. Thanks for all the videos I came up with this after watching many of yours, and trying my hand at creation with a lot of flavors I like.
Finally got some Absinthe so I tried the Updated version first... I really enjoyed it. My Go To cocktail in a rye Manhattan and this is like a rye Manhattan all dressed up and ready to go to a party.
To Az, dont worry about your goofiness and lively personality on camera, thats what people like to see. You're a natural on camera. Love to you and Anders, you're both extremely wonderful.
Wow, I made the original recipe and was equally blown away. Talk about being greater than the sum of its parts - for a cocktail with such individually overpowering ingredients, it somehow transforms into something completely new and unrecognizable. Thanks for bringing attention to this one!
Made the updated one today! Absolutely delicious, and I don’t generally love Louisiana cocktails. It blows my mind how you can get your cocktails this well balanced.
I come from a household that has specialized in making Sazeracs for friends and family for years. I've made both versions of La Louisiane now and I have to say that the original really surprised me at how much smoother and sweeter it is compared to the Sazerac. The updated version takes the cake as both I and the other half from NOLA enjoy it the most! Thanks for sharing this drink and it's history with everyone. I've yet to try it at the Carousel Bar, but I'm sure I've had a top tier version of it at home. Cheers!
I found your channel several months ago and have fallen for your teaching of how to make many of your classic cocktails but even better is your “improved “ versions such as this one. I have moved on from the Manhattan and my previous go-to, the old fashioned and have fallen in love with the revised La Louisiane! This, to me, is the perfect cocktail! Perfectly balanced. Even that little element of lemon at the end is crucial! Drinking these at happy hour all week to celebrate Duke going to Final 4 in New Orleans! Side note- found out by accident that my neighbor here in Wake Forest NC is related to Az and relayed stories of you making cocktails at a relatives wedding in So Cal! Small world!
My wife and I love the sazerac and the vieux carre. It’s been a favorite post-work cocktail during the pandemic; but I think your updated la louisiane has become our new fave!
I'm from southeast Louisiana. Sazerac is by far my favorite cocktail. Vieux Carre is up there as well. I haven't tried a La Lousiane yet but plan on making one this weekend. Already have all the ingredients.
I always have enjoyed the "Remember the Maine" as what I'd describe to be a Manhattan meets a Sazerac. I'll have to give this one a try now since you similarly said it's a hybrid New Orleans experience!
Had to riff on this as you can't get Peychaud's in Norway, and went for Ango. I also didn't have Bènèdictine DOM, and used Drambuie instead. Heresy to some; a potent, tasty dessert cocktail for me. Big fan of your channel! Keep up the good work :)
Just stumbled across this video again (I have it saved to refer back to), and decided on La Louisiane on such a cold night. I realized that from a flavor perspective, this fits perfectly between my top 2 cocktails - the Old Fashioned & Manhattan - made the “new” version and what a treat! I think this is going to knock #1 Old Fashioned into #2 spot. Also, in the spirit of giving back to the community - for the Black Manhattan, try Braulio for the amaro - outstanding! Salut! Na zdrowie! Na zdorov'ye! Or however else you celebrate a fun cocktail! Cheers!
First, let me say that this is my favorite UA-cam channel, and I have been recommending you to all of my cocktail loving friends. Saw this Friday and was intrigued, as I'm a huge fan of Sazerac and Vieux Carre. Have since made a few versions of the Updated recipe, and I've found that reducing the Benedictine to 1/2 oz is more to my taste. I love Benedictine, but it can overpower a cocktail IMHO. Also, I slightly prefer a less complex vermouth - Dolin or Carpano Classico. Again, I love Cocchi, but it can also dominate the cocktail. I want the rye and the absinthe/herbsaint to come through. Thanks for introducing me to a third cocktail in the NOLA family.
Greetings Anders, I just made this drink. I made the boozier version, served it up. And holy cow, it is definitely going to be made again. This one will go in regular rotation at home. My thanks!
just finding and enjoying all your videos. You have made me so intrigued with the classic cocktails. Thank you so much. And AZ, we love seeing your beautiful face.
Cheers Anders and Az! Thanks for you videos. Writing here right from the hell of Ukraine. I think your videos is one of the few things, keeping me with that previous normal life. Peace ☮️ hope tho see you in your next videos…
I enjoy them all; however, (1) La Louisiane (2) Vieux Carre (3) Sazerac. Really enjoyed it on the large rock. I used Three Chords Rye. I think I will try it that way next time I do a Vieux Carre, which may be as soon as I finish this one. Thanks!
This is my four-year-old twins' favorite UA-cam channel. This may say as much about me as it does about you. God bless, and thanks for all the great videos.
That’s a lot of Benedictine, bringing the spice. Love a good glass rinse, also fond of spritzing it from a sprayer bottle as well. Also makes for some great b-roll lol
The Sazerac is one of my all time favorite cocktails. I really do need to try this one. As much as I do enjoy trying new drinks, I loathe needing to go buy a full bottle of a spirit that I may only use one time! I need to solve that problem. Maybe I'll find other uses for benedictine.
Ahhh! Perfect timing! Dinner guests are coming over in half an hour. I'll try it out. Thanks Anders. I love these booze on booze on booze...cocktails. Great video!
I had to make this with a high rye bourbon (1792) since my rye was located elsewhere, brothers!, and it was still incredibly rich. I can’t wait to try it with rye when and if my brother makes restitution!
This is now #1 on my list of most delicious cocktails. I tried the updated recipe. So rich and flavorful! Thanks as always Anders, you’re a treasure 👍🏼 p.s. we like seeing Az because you guys have great chemistry and are fun together
Yea for more Az! Just for a change, we need a video of Az making the drinks as Anders behind the camera narrates giving her tips how to make it, just like us armatures at home would be bumbling thru making it.
Really love your updated version. Drinking it up. And while I’m commenting, thank you for your listing of 15 bottles or so to purchase to complete the home bar. Having so much fun with luxardo, chartreuse, DOM, amaro, etc. But like you, I keep going back to the NOLA group of spirit-heavy drinks. Just so good! Thanks again Anders 👍🏼
I made the original version last night. It was delicious and I can't wait to make one for my wife soon. I also can't wait to make the updated version. I'm now a huge fan of La Louisiana and will be introducing it to family and friends when they visit. Cheers, Anders and Azu!
These videos always make me smile. I appreciate the history, and also the variations you offer. And Az's reactions never disappoint. Thanks for sharing.
This is such a "Me" cocktail. 😁 I think I will do a side by side comparison tomorrow night, just to soothe my soul. When I drink one of these great New Orleans cocktails or order/make a Manhattan or Bobby Burns, it's more than a drink. It's an experience. I definitely need to get an atomizer for my Absinthe. I love Az reaction to the cocktails. Thanks for another great video. Cheers! 😊
I just made both of these and they’re REALLY good. I used WhistlePig Piggyback for both and used Pastis as a rinse since I already had it in a little spray bottle (used absinthe on the OG). I love them both and LOVE New Orleans. Both are getting added to my personal bar menu. Thanks Anders!
What a beautiful drink in that elegant stemmed glass. I think I’d like the original better. We love to hear from Az! Girl, don’t worry about wearing same thing as the last video. I’m wearing my same blue flannel Friday pajamas I was when I watched the last video too!
They have a La Louisiane on the menu at one of my favourite bars in Cambridge, MA and I KNEW you would have this in your repertoire! Love it! Thanks for your sips, tips, and recipes 🎉 My house guests really appreciate your channel, as I do :)
Oh man. This is indeed the perfect marriage of Vieux Carré and Sazerac. I love this a lot! I had a small atomizer bottle from the DAYS OF HAND SANITIZER MADNESS that had never been deployed, so it was perfect for spritzing the absinthe. Also, after finally doctoring the rye bottle to finally say Ritt-----SE (RITZY BABY!) with a sharpie, the room really tied together. And you are spot-on about the lemon oil. Absolutely perfect. I'll give the original a go when I find a stemmed thimble. :)
Hi Anders, I have been a subscriber for a long time but this is my first comment on your channel. I like this drink too, and noted it over a year ago. I believe it was named after a train engine that ran New Orleans - New York in the 1930s. I always make it with Absinthe but will try your proportions at cocktail O’clock today, pre dinner. Nick from York
So I tried the original because I needed to try out my new cocktail cherries, very nice. Not a fan of whiskey cocktails but this is very balanced, will be making it again. Your Negroni cocktail recipe is my favorite btw!
Wonderful surprise! I am so glad I found your channel! I'm always looking for new fantastic drinks I can make occasionally. I found EH Taylor single barrel whiskey a few years ago. It was only $100 per bottle. After searching for days I found 2 bottles and bought them both. Since it's so hard to find, I only have a shot every few months. I'll be sad when it's gone. This cocktail looks great. Now to buy some new alcohol. Thanks.
Anders thank you for a wonderful new video, now I need to go buy some Benedictine ;). I will have to say Az is, as always, the best part. It is great to have her opinion, it ads a sense of relatability to the whole experience. Not to mention that I have loved every drink she really liked :D. Thanks again for your wonderful content.
Very nice. So appealing, especially that second one. These drinks are going to get you really drunk, and you won’t even know what happened. Need to be careful with those. I love Dolin. So unusual. So good. Everyone should try some.
My favorite easily and I agree 100%, you have to go with a big hitting rye, I actually go even higher than BiB and go with a Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye at 115 or something else in the 110-115 range and put it on a big rock. When I think to the New Orleans style drinks I love the most I think the thing that makes them the most unique is the Lemon and Absinthe combination with the Peychaud's and always tilt my recipes to show that off. The bright citrus and bold licorice against the rich and boozy base always makes such a complex but accessible drink.
So I just tried both versions, and tasted the original first. I really liked it. A bit on the sweet side, but very pleasant and tasty. I enjoyed it. 😊 But when I tried YOUR VERSION... DANG!!! You leveled it up, Anders! SO GOOD! In my opinion, an excellent tweak! Kudos to you! Cheers from Manila, 🇵🇭! 🥂
Made both of these tonight. I completely agree the Rye gets a little lost in all the big flavors...but that pop of the lemon oil on the 'Anders version' made it the big winner! Thank you for the lesson teaching me about yet another classic cocktail that definitely would not have tried if not for your videos.
@@AndersErickson I LOVE that you make the two versions! I try to make both for a small group of friends and get their thoughts on their favorite. We make an evening out of it! Thank you for highlighting these drinks!
I still think a good video would review how to judge volumes so you don't under or over pour your cocktail glass. And more Az ! You guys make an adorable team.
Sazerac, Vieux Carré, or La Louisiane? 🥃

La Louisiana now that you have revealed it to me. C’est magnifique!
Always loved how the Vieux Carré sits right between a Sazerac and a Manhattan. Looking forward to trying this one
I have each of the soaps and I liked most of 'em, but really Az is the only person who should see you in the shower...
La Lousiane. There all great, but this one is king. So glad my favorite cocktail is finally getting some much deserved attention!

I agree, have been wanting to start drinking/ making classic cocktails! Cheers!
Well said! Great channel.
I really like that Az is incorporated and an "unbiased" or maybe "less expirenced" palet. Usually her face reaction is better than any words to describe the cocktail!
P.S. it is 2022... we all done the not change our cloths for at least a week thing
I agree, Az could come on and not say anything, but we would still be able to tell from her facial expressions what she thinks of the drink!
i agree -- it's the whole package, for sure, with the variations, the history, and the experienced tasting notes, PLUS the "person on the street" sort of perspective and description by Az. she speaks well for us all!
💯
Az trying the drinks is definitely one of my favorite parts of each episode. Keep up the great work, Anders!
It works well as a counterpoint to the experianced and nouanced bartender. Playing off contrasts is classical narrative sense.
Fridays are my favourite because we get another Anders video :)
Cheers, Lucas!
Wow. You really went all-in for this sponsor, Mr. Erickson. Slow hand claps for you!

To Az, dont worry about your goofiness and lively personality on camera, thats what people like to see. You're a natural on camera. Love to you and Anders, you're both extremely wonderful.
Yes!!! Another New Orleans cocktail to add to my list. My wife and I LOVE these cocktails.
The Vieux Carre has become my go to order despite the confused look I get half the time lol. Excited to try this one next!!
I think you're going to love it. Cheers!
Can’t wait! What’s you go to absinthe by the way?
Wow, I made the original recipe and was equally blown away. Talk about being greater than the sum of its parts - for a cocktail with such individually overpowering ingredients, it somehow transforms into something completely new and unrecognizable. Thanks for bringing attention to this one!

I'm sipping your updated version as I type. Very nice! This may be my favorite for the next few weeks
I’m so glad I found this channel!! I absolutely love your videos.
Tried this tonight as an intro to the weekend. Really wonderful. Thank you!
That’s a lot of Benedictine, bringing the spice. Love a good glass rinse, also fond of spritzing it from a sprayer bottle as well. Also makes for some great b-roll lol
Oh, yeah. Thanks, for bringing this one back into the spotlight where it belongs. Looks great!
Thanks Ronnie! A tasty one for sure. Cheers! 🥃
The Sazerac is one of my all time favorite cocktails. I really do need to try this one. As much as I do enjoy trying new drinks, I loathe needing to go buy a full bottle of a spirit that I may only use one time! I need to solve that problem. Maybe I'll find other uses for benedictine.

Thanks Anders. I love these booze on booze on booze...cocktails. Great video!
Thanks, Joonha! This is a good one - hope your guests love it! Cheers!

These videos are beautiful. I love the final presentation of the drinks! La Louisiane is an elegant drink for sure!
Great video - you two are a fine team! We tried both and they are very good but the updated is GREAT! Thanks.
Being the nonconformist that I am, I made the updated LA LOUISIANE, but served it up in a Coupe glass. Really tasty.
I made the original version last night. It was delicious and I can't wait to make one for my wife soon. I also can't wait to make the updated version. I'm now a huge fan of La Louisiana and will be introducing it to family and friends when they visit. Cheers, Anders and Azu!
I love AZ. So cute, smart and funny. You're a lucky guy Anders.
I love you both - your videos are great! And you both are the cutest! Please don’t stop
I can't wait to get home and make this! Combo of my two favourites!
These videos always make me smile. I appreciate the history, and also the variations you offer. And Az's reactions never disappoint. Thanks for sharing.
Loving that the channel is back into the dusty classics :). The two variant format is a real winner too. Love your work, dude.
This is such a "Me" cocktail. 😁 I think I will do a side by side comparison tomorrow night, just to soothe my soul. I was thinking of making some Louisiana inspired meals this weekend and this will go perfectly with the theme. CHEERS!!
One of my absolute cocktails tie with a Martinez
Being a whisky (notice the scottish spelling...) lover, such cocktails are always at the top of my list.
Awesome video as usual.
Yes! All 3 of them! 😂 Just made the new version of this drink and wow. Nicely done, as always! Love your channel, and love you two! Salut.
What a beautiful drink in that elegant stemmed glass. I think I’d like the original better.

Funny you put out this video today. I was just looking up recipes for the Benedictine bottle I just bought. Making this one tonight! Cheers 🥃
No hiding, Az! You must share your charm with the world!!
It's crazy I come over here from your friend giving you props and the first video I watch is cocktails from my home city.
Literally watching this as I make gumbo for a Mardi Gras Party/crawfish boil tomorrow.
Hello, fellow Anders. Add 3 bsp. Suze, cut the Peychaud's, and you have a Le Rousillion. Highly recommended!
I'd happily drink one of your classic New Orleans concoctions - I'm right there with you! Cheers to you! 🥃
I live in Louisiana, not very far from New Orleans, and I've never heard of this cocktail!
Gonna have to find a place to get one soon!
Anders, you are fantastic at what you do. Keep up the great work! Excellent videography as well.
Congratulations, you two! And I loved the video!
Had one, okay two last night. Excellent cocktail!
Az: "Why do you guys want me to be here?!"
Hi, Az. Speaking for myself? Because you are delightful! You and Anders play off each other so well. :)
So I just tried both versions, and tasted the original first. I really liked it. A bit on the sweet side, but very pleasant and tasty. I enjoyed it. 😊
But when I tried YOUR VERSION...
Thanks for trying both recipes - Cheers!
@@AndersErickson I LOVE that you make the two versions! I try to make both for a small group of friends and get their thoughts on their favorite. We make an evening out of it! Thank you for highlighting these drinks!
More of the two of you together! Love these comparison videos
More AZ on camera , my vote , and since I live in Chicago I vote early and vote often
I still think a good video would review how to judge volumes so you don't under or over pour your cocktail glass. And more Az ! You guys make an adorable team.
