    This video was EXACTLY what I needed! I have been searching for a good tissue fitting video for a very long time and I am so glad to have come across your channel today. You really broke it down and now I finally understand how to do a proper tissue fit. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and for saving me a lot of fitting frustration!

      Yeah, me too! I’ve seen demos with someone doing it on someone else, but this is great because she’s doing it on herself, like I will be. Thanks!

    I've so needed this video. Fitting is the hardest part and haven't tried tissue fitting, I usually make a muslin but then I'm lost most of the time in how to fix it. I will be looking forward to the alteration part of the pattern. Thanks so much! Donna

    So smart! I have been avoiding making a muslin because i did not want to cut up and waste the fabric! This is the "in between" fitting step I was looking for - thank you thank you !

    Hi AD Lynn I purchased this pattern recently (because of this video) and was wondering where you purchased your fabric? I like the wardrobe building idea, and I definitely need a white blouse. Can you also give a list a what types of fabrics or fabric blends would work, too? Thanks!

    Hi Andrea, I have a question. In this video - are you measuring your high waist? When I make my skirts (self-draft) I like high waist - waist bands. Where would you consider the waist to be -- where you bend?
    Thanks for your help.
    Camille

      Camille Stevens-Bess thanks Camille. This should help. ua-cam.com/video/cewwMFo6YoU/v-deo.html
      I always Draft from true waist and then add to design the high waist which takes pert of the bodice darts

    Hey Andrea I have a question on fit I'm hoping you can help me with. If I'm using a sz. 14 pattern (pattern is for a coat) because my upper bust is 36" but my bust is 40". The finished garment measurement for the size 14 is 42". Even though I know the garment will fit I know that 2" is not enough ease for a coat. How do I figure out how much ease I need and how to get that extra ease?

    • @SewToFit
      @SewToFit  9 років тому +5

      Thank you for such a great question. The answer is in the difference (ease intended) from the patterns stated Bust measurement and the Finish bust measurement on the actual pattern. You may need to measure that or sometimes the patterns state the Finished measurements directly on the pattern. Ie size 14::: 36" bust 42" finished measurement leaves 6" intended ease. I estimate how much of this is allowed for the actual front of the pattern by subtracting the bust allowance for a B-cup, about 2-3" then I divide the total 42 by 2 to get 21" then I subtract this 2" from the back (21") and add it to the front (21"). This gives me 24" total in the front and 2-3" ease of the 6" overall. Thus if my cup size is above the B, then the garment will fit very snug in the front and fairly nicely in the back granted I don't have a wide back. I hope this helps.

      +SewToFit -ADLynn
      yes this really does help. So if you want a loose fit then you just do a FBA to increase the ease in the front pattern piece?

    • @SewToFit
      @SewToFit  9 років тому +3

      Absolutely correct. When it is a garment that is meant to fit loosely and you don't have the "looseness" available in the front, the fabric will drag towards the front at the underarm side seams. So for me, I calculate the difference for the next cup size from the B-cup to get the amount of FBA....ie--- c-cup 1/2" FBA, d-cup 1" FBA, dd-cup 1.5" FBA, e-cup 2" FBA. (Double those numbers and you have just added that much more ease to the front for the garment to hang better.

      Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. The reference books don't really break things down in plain talk (IMO). Having this information really helps. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Andrea, I'm finally beginning my shirt alterations using Vogue 9029. I cut a size 14 because my high bust measured 37. I need to add 1 1/2 inches to the center back. Should I divide this amount and then added it to back piece #4 and side back piece #3? Either way, can you explain how I'd make this adjustment. Thanks.

    • @ADLynnspeaks
      @ADLynnspeaks 9 років тому

      That's a lot to need in the back. I would add the amount over four seams. 3/8 on #3, 3/8 on #4 and then pivot and slide the other 3/8" at the side seams. Pivot and slide 3/8" at the the back also.

      +adavishouston Hi Andrea thanks for responding. I was thinking that 1 1/2 was a lot. I used a size 14 because my high bust measures 37, I even went to Victoria Secrets and got fitted to make sure that I'm in the right bra size because I'm having so many issues fitting my bodice. I'm very tone with muscle so I'm wondering if this is why I'm having the width issue across the back area. I cut the size 14 because whenever I cut a 16 to accommodate my bust area, I get gaping around the armhole and extra fabric in my chest area. In addition, I can't get the sleeve all the way up to my shoulder because I need to do a full bicep adjustment first, or is this a length issue that I should address first before doing the full bicep adjustment? Where do you live in Houston? I've in-laws in the Cypress and North Houston area, and me and my spouse plan to settle down there once she gets out of the military. But we might be coming next year because of a position opening up and we plan to move to Sugar Land. I'd love to take a fitting class with you.

      +Janet Thomson Hello Janet...I live in the cypress/north houston area. We certainly can get together for a more in-depth fitting session. On these videos and online classes we are only able to "introduce" techniques to get you thinking about the best needs for your body. This is the main reason my favorite form of instruction is in real life. Until we can get together, I can work with you on FaceTime for a small fee or some other live tele service so that I can personally walk you through the process. I can only help you in depth if I can see what I'm working with. Please send me a private email so I can work out a session with you. "andrea at sewtofit .com
