Brilliant video. I've been preaching this for years and feel like I'm swimming up stream trying to get people to listen and re train their thought pattern. I have broken a few people and will be sending this video to many people to help them understand the difference. Although I am in the auto glass business the rules are the same. Only OE is dealer sold in a factory box with a factory "brand" mark. There is nothing wrong with OEM in most cases as it is always better then aftermarket in rare cases the aftermarket makes a better product the than the original and that is always nice. Stacy
Purchased a complete set of Brembo discs and pads from Design 911. Great service, arrived two days later, no delivery charge and PCGB members discount. 👍👍
It's good to hear that OE and OEM is same. However, I heard when you buy clutch assembly from SACHS but in Poland for a very good price, it is not the same quality. The parts are made in China and the material is not the same. That is what I heard. So, I would be more than interested to see a comparison of these parts!
Good video. Something to consider other than price is warranty however. As although OEM/aftermarket parts tend to be cheaper than OE/Genuine Porsche parts, the Porsche parts warranty* (two years) tends to be longer than OEM/aftermarket parts warranties (usually around a year). *The Porsche parts warranty only applies where the parts are fitted by OPC or a VAT registered garage. It wouldn’t apply if you were DIYing for example.
I check Porsche Classic for availability and price and then check the OEM buying the cheapest of the two. Do as you like, it is up to you to decide ....
I do not own or maintain a Porsche, but I do own and restore old BMW's so I'd like to point out that this video is actually correct and incorrect. Before fully retiring a couple of years ago, I worked for Euro Car Parts for 10 years, so I know a bit about car parts and after-market parts. Some OEM parts appear to be the same as the OE, but actually aren't, e.g. the Brembo brake pads you show in the video. Lots of BMW suspension parts were made for BMW by Lemforder, so it used to be the case that the Lemforder replacement was identical but much cheaper than the original. Now, Lemforder are having parts made in China and Eastern Europe and the quality is a world away from the OE BMW which was made by Lemforder in Germany. Brembo discs come in a nice box with a picture of some German technician so all looks great, except it says "Country of Origin - China" Once the original parts have been used up, manufacturers have to get replacements made, so I've no doubt that some genuine Porsche parts will be Chinese made, but to their specification and quality control, whereas the OEM version often has corners cut. I'm afraid you have to check and double check to make the right choice, the spark plugs are a no brainer, but other parts not as easy.
What a lot of people dont know is that the manufacturer branded parts are often to a unique specification, not used in the OEM part production. Of late, many car owners and specialists have found poor quality fitting of 997 Meyle suspension components. This was the go-to company for such parts.
Yep. Got my clutch assembly for my 997 from Porsche direct and saved £100’s. However when I needed a new exhaust it was waaaaaaay cheaper to buy a stainless than from either Design 911 or from Porsche.
I can tell you for a fact that OE Match parts appear to be very low quality. I bought a window regulator for my 2005 911 Carrera S and the fitting and quality was extremely poor. I had to bin this and order a genuine Porsche part, which was perfect in quality and performance.
The lights got my attention having replaced all the lights on my 991. I did a lot of searching and at no point did an OEM alternative seem to be available. Would have definitely gone OEM if I’d stumbled on them, assuming a cost benefit.
I have had one problem with OEM where a poor quality fake part had obviously crept into the supply chain. In my case what were obviously fake bosch spark plugs where exchanged without issue but it has made me think about where iam and iam not prepared to use oem bits.
Great company to deal with. Lots of savings on OEM, aftermarket, and performance products. I've used them over 10 years for bits on my 997, 986 and 3.0sc.
The Bosch oil filter for an 993 are physically not the same than the Porsche one. Even if they have the same Bosch reference. The country of manufacturing is also different.
yes, I avoid using them whenever possible, I ordered a few parts showing "In Stock" on their website start of November, some took until the end of December to arrive nearly 8 weeks
I always thought OEM part was made by the company e.g Porsche and OE is original spec by another company e.g Bosch but you say the names are the other way round?
For a diy'er like myself, I've known this for a long time. Trying to get people to listen when they've been fed falsehoods is hard! The difference could be being able to afford to run a Porsche or not....
Is this this similar terminology for the entire automotive industry? On my MINI I bought an OE MAF Sensor made by Bosch. The OEM part made by Bosch was $300 less but dealer scared me into believing it was an inferior product
I don’t think it is a guarantee that OEM is identical to OE. It is possible, but not always in my opinion. There are too many details in the parts that can be varied, and OEMs may not always sell the same product that Porsche specified, simply because the market requires Something else that is not Porsche spec.
Well...have a non car guy friend who believes porsche actually manufactures all these parts and mobil 1 oil has gold in them.....god forbid you get a ctek charger without the porsche sticker....oh..and i told him to maintain his battery with the electricity from germany otherwise the car will explode......not to mention walmart branded washer fluid which cracks porsche glass 😂
6:02 , you are wrong. The "Porsche pad is made by Textar, not by Brembo, You can see also that the anti-squeak plate has a different shape. The Brembo pad is aftermarket, not OEM.. I assume the OEM part is Textar 2472101
Agree, but I'd presumed it varied by model... My 993 are textar like you say, not sure if other models use brembo. I tried brembo on mine... They are definitely not the same. Textar perfect.
This is why original equipment manufacturers cannot bring the price down on cars! Every single part on their car is made from someone else that company like Brabo needs to make a profit so you take all those companies making profits and that Volkswagen sorry Porsche cost $80,000 Not to mention when you go by the Parts, yes you can find them from other manufacturers but some parts you can’t some parts only Porsche makes or is allowed to sell and you have to go directly to Porsche so some weird boat cost $300. This is why I stopped buying Porsche‘s after my third one I got sick of it. I’m a Tesla owner now. My car is one of the fastest in the world and when I need parts, Tesla makes 95% of the car. Parts are reasonable and available now I’m not saying Tesla will not turn into Porsche later on but right now they’re not and I’m not constantly searching for the next fastest car. I have the fastest car for a long time.
Funny how he's continually switching between "porsh" like the local cheapo parts guy VS correctly saying the "e" like someone that knows the brand well and can be trusted.
This is bad information. You have 4 part types. Genuine, OE, OEM, and aftermarket. Genuine, dealer part, branding and packaging OE, 1:1 Genuine. These are parts you physically see grinding/laser etching of the factory logos and part numbers removed. Comes in manufactures packaging. OEM. Example the brake pads you displayed here. BREMBO is a OE supplier for Porsche and many others. However the Prime pads you displayed here are not made in the same factory as Genuine and are not the same pad compound. Therefore they are an OEM part. OEM a part produced by a Manufacturer that does supply Original Equipment Parts for that vehicle line. Aftermarket is everything else

Very well explained thanks

These guys are brilliant for parts I have spent a fortune on my boxster brilliant 👏

Great video and hugely informative. I have been using OEM parts on my Golfs for years and saving a ton of money. I intend to with my 911.
I check Porsche Classic for availability and price and then check the OEM buying the cheapest of the two. Do as you like, it is up to you to decide ....
The Porsche Brembo pad has a GG friction ration whereas the other has FF. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!
Have been using OEM for years!

Great work, guys. All car brands have been using OEM manufacturer’s like Sachs for years.
Just got a sachs clutch, now made in China 😅
Hello, the compound on the brembo OE is GG and in the OEM are FF, clearly different brake pad!

Avoid Meyle, its garbage. Use Lemförder or TRW or Sachs.
Now made in china
I've never heard of Meyle being the go-to for anything
I’ve bought 2 997tt aero kits from design 911, great service and parts.
Issue is, almost every part you sell is more expensive than an official Porsche centre. Makes no sense.
Yep, I have actually saved money buying from main dealer using PCGB parts discount.
Additional link in the chain, they buy from Porsche and ship to you and you can buy online.
Yep. Got my clutch assembly for my 997 from Porsche direct and saved £100’s. However when I needed a new exhaust it was waaaaaaay cheaper to buy a stainless than from either Design 911 or from Porsche.
Design911 is a lot cheaper on everything else. I've used them for years.
Get PCGB membership and get discount at Centre
What about your OE match stuff you sell? Is this made at the main factories?
Excellent question - keen to learn the answer to this as well.
They're aftermarket and sub standard in my opinion (most of the time)
@@stephenauty2402 lol I have never tired the OE match stuff.. I normally get good branded makes!
OE match are Chinese parts made to match the spec of OE. The rubber related OE match products will wear out sooner.
I can tell you for a fact that OE Match parts appear to be very low quality. I bought a window regulator for my 2005 911 Carrera S and the fitting and quality was extremely poor. I had to bin this and order a genuine Porsche part, which was perfect in quality and performance.

Always wise to avoid the Porsche Tax if possible. Their dealerships need to pay for that fancy dealership building and coffee bar somehow!
Can you explain why alternators for the 997.2 seem to be controlled by Porsche ?
Ask them why they take customers money then don’t supply the goods for months.
They need to more honest about delivery times at the point of purchase
yes, I avoid using them whenever possible, I ordered a few parts showing "In Stock" on their website start of November, some took until the end of December to arrive nearly 8 weeks

You're not making a compelling case. You could at least weigh them or show the Porsche logo has been ground off on some of the OEM parts
Usually the original tail lights from PORSCHE have the branding inside, the other have not!... on the spot that's one difference!...
Read on the boxes sachs now made in CHINA 😅
Great info but ffs please stop waving your arms around…….. you are presenting a show, not on fire. I’ve got motion sickness just watching 🤮
