I think this would be more practical if you showed how to do it right on an edge rather than make an edging to sew on.

Why would anyone crochet the edging separately and sew it on later?

SessKo Some edgings are created from the opposite direction, or from side to side. So it would not be possible to work them directly from the fabric.
