Sans can't actually do the timeline stuff Flowey and Frisk can believe it or not. He's just a scientist who can measure stuff messing with the timeline.

He begins his fight saying stuff like "our reports showed a massive anomaly in the timespace continuum. timelines starting and stopping all over the place. all of them converging here to this moment. During the fight there's also a line something like "you never were my friend. were you? don't tell the other sanses that." He calls them other sanses. And he confirms he doesn't remember resets and alternate timelines. Plus, to reset you need to be the one with the most DETERMINATION (The two characters who's memories cross timelines are also those people capable of resets). The amounts required just to resist death can melt a monster's body as we saw with Undyne. Sans also isn't really one to showcase a ton of determination. Especially in the Genocide Route where he doesn't even try anymore after he gets hit. His low stats might also relate to this since people with intent to kill can easily kill monsters.

Sans doesn't remember the events in past timelines, he only has the knowledge that the resets exist. On a genocide run, every time you die against Sans, he reads your expression. Also, all the characters have very vague memories each reset. It's most likely Sans is just more aware of the resets because he knows they exist. The only other character capable of actually remembering on a reset is Flowey, and that's because Flowey held the power to reset before.
I think its due to having the person you love most ripped away from you, again and again.(also the fact he doesn't truly remember the resets or restarts.)
Idk why people never seem to notice but it's so sad and perfect at simply showing what sans' existence is. Trapped in an endless cycle of death and despair only to die and repeat for eternity because a human got bored and wanted to see what it was like.... Why is this a kids game again?

If he lives he will be trapped in the underground forever with no way out ,and he will be all by himself and he will either go insane ,doom himself to a miserable lonely existence or end his life .At least in the pacifist timelines no one has to die (well,maybe except Asgore) but even if they make it to the surface Sans will know that it doesn't matter as they will be back to the underground. And to add the fact that he can remember the resets of course he would be all depressed and hide his true self . Sure he can tell someone about what is on his mind but their memories will be deleted when Frisk resets and there would be no point . I honestly can't blame him for feeling this way ,I would be too if I was in his position

Sorry to comment from a year ago but, I know everyone including me feels bad for sans. Or at least the people watching this video. However if somebody didn't at least try to do a genocide route. We wouldn't ever feel sad for sans. Not knowing his sadness, depression, how close papyrus is in his heart, we would never know! Since he keeps it hidden, when people do see others doing it they find out more. It's just what we have to do for our skeleton friend to at least understand him and the other characters. I feel so bad for Sans. He's stuck forever in this endless timeline and he's the only one who realizes it. Sometimes he gets to live in the surface for a while before another reset. Sometimes the king of the underground is turned to dust and the monsters are stuck in the underground forever. Or sometimes.... The only person he has left to truly care about in his life gets stripped away from him. And he has to watch his entire world be murdered right in front of him. And he knows that no matter how many times he dodges the human's attacks, he'll lose, and he's stuck like this forever. No wonder he thinks nothing matters, because in that life, nothing really does matter.

Its a perfect loop, and if you could keep it looping, it would go on indefinitely... Until something changes... Like for example, the wifi crashes. And then Sans goes dusttale. But then you fix the wifi and the loop continues, just slightly different this time round. No matter what happens Sans will always be stuck in this loop. Dammit this is why I didn't do the genocide route.
Genocides isn't even the worst(though it's more than bad) , it's the fact he has to relive all of it again and again and again

The only person he has left to truly care about in his life gets stripped away from him. And he has to watch his entire world be murdered right in front of him. And he knows that no matter
how many times he dodges the human's attacks, he'll lose, and he's stuck like this forever. No wonder he thinks nothing matters, because in that life, nothing really does matter.
If he has seen it all he thinks there is no point in doing anything - he knows it will all be reset and he will have to go back to square one. It's a while wonder he hasn't gone crazy
