Yeah, Ice/Lightning mage was always solid.
I remember back when the Europe server didn't exist (yes, that was way before Pirate class was introduced, I'm that old), my uncle who introduced me to MapleStory and was playing it a ton back then recommended me that class, because it was very easy. Perfect for such an impatient kid that I was. Sure enough, I had an amazing time. Thunder Bolt was a crazy move back then. Had a long-range, and could hit several mobs for good damage. Training that class at Florina Beach felt like cheating.
Sigh, good times. I like I/L mage. But yes, I still prefer F/P mage more. Fire Arrow was amazing. I mean, it wasn't that good in-game, but I loved it for its idea.
Aaanyway, I'm going offtopic. The point is this class was always good. It's no wonder why people love it to this day.
Back then I had no clue with what I was doing with my i/l mage so I pumped all my points into cold bolt instead. Definitely nowhere near as efficient though at least it did give me some exclusive maps to train at like fire boars and red drakes (I remember praying whilst grinding red drakes that they would drop steelies just so I could afford more potions to keep grinding lol.) I dunno why yet I kind of liked it when you could only control a small section of the map whilst grinding as sometimes another person would join and you could party up and take different spots of the map to help each other. ..Compared to today when one character can FMA the entire map and hog all the mobs. :v
Lets be compleeeeetly honest here..this video could have been 20 seconds with intro. Chain lightning. Done. such an insane skill in comparison to other 4th job grind skills
i mean... There are several classes that grind just as smooth
That'll be similar to reducing Luminous to only Reflection lol

Ice/Lightning was my second character and my first effective main back then. I loved the class because of its mobility and mobbing abilities. The ice skills are really pretty to look at, and chain lightning is amazing!
I picked and mained an I/L as my first class from ages 8-14. Now I'm 21 and main a Mercedes in reboot, but I still have a soft spot for mages!
yeah i been playing on and off since pre big bang and just got back on reboot recently! started with a bishop for now ^^ ( all my old friends are dead lol )

I play Maplestory M a lot, and my main is an I/L mage! I absolutely love the class, level 215 right now and grinding as we speak. I played an I/L in GMS about 15 years ago now (can't believe it's already been that long) always been a fun class. The OG Blizzard / Genesis / Meteor Shower animation will always have a special place in my heart as I used to watch it for hours as I purchased Harps leech to try and get my Ranger main to 4th job. It was either that or kill that one single Jr. Newtie for hours, standing on the other platform out of range from their magic attacks from being too squishy...(iykyk), good times! I don't even play Maplestory anymore, its been YEARS, since I last played Maplestory, the last class I played was a Battlemage. But the first ever class I ever played, was an Ice Lightning Mage. Its kind of insane how much this class has gotten better since then.
I love this class, played it back when getting to 3rd class meant you were one of the better players around. Good memories.
I remember having an I/L arch mage back in 2009... was great memories

Dont get baited with the class bind. I/l is a 2min class but the bind is on a 3 min cd. You can use unreliable memory for bund but then you lose uptime on infinity which is your big source of damage
my first maple chara ever in childhood on the platform that i was also most connected to (friends on platform wise, heavy leveling wise, etc) was an ice/lightning! she was the most fun out of all my characters to play, and i played her the most. she was a fuckin tank too, had so many skills i loved. maple deleted her because my account had to be reactivated after years of no activity, and she is gone just like that, i used to look up her stats on the site just for fun because of how much the character meant to me. long live Yasunaru , lol!

I love characters that use ice in games so I mained this character but I didn't know how to play maplestory when I first started and put my stats into all stats which made them weak. But I now main them and am using your zero to hero guide to try to get to 250
Ice lightning main here and loving the class but are hyper need a little rework imo.Bolt barrage we should have both option for it to hit across the map and the bolt to stick on the boss maybe a press skill key+arrow key to allow bolt to his boss from above. Spirit snow attack speed need to be faster and Lightning orb should be a place down skill instead of a channel skill. Everything else the class it all around solid.
I've had the very same I/L mage as my main for 17+ years, no regrets!! Seriously one of the best classes
Hi Coppersan! Will you consider making a comprehensive Shade guide in the future? You main him and with burning coming out and jett getting removed, more people are incentivized to burn Shade for legion.
I cant seem to find an AP allocation anywhere. ( stats into int or int and luk etc ) anyone got tips?

Changed my Bishop to Ice Mage via Coin Job Advancement. I think I like their mobbing ability more than my former Bishops' version of mobbing ability... But I did miss my Bishops healing arrow even though my Lightning and Blizzard reaches more but it doesn't heal.
Other than that, I don't really severely regret my decision. I guess everything has it's own perks lol =D

Only the true OGs had a STR mage that swung maces at enemies when you were out of mana.
I changed my bishop to I/L before the revamp and now I wish I didn’t, still love I/L though
my ice lightning mage was my first actual main. made it in 2009 and i got it to 200 after 4 years i think. played it a lot until they removed key things that made them actually fun. it was a slow regression process but it started with adding cooldown to blizzard that i didn't to experience back then since i was level 11X when big bang arrived. then it was the removal of Glacier Chain which was super fun to use and helped a lot with mobing during party play in LHC and Future Ereve. then they also removed the frost effect from ice skills and replaced it with the much less useful slow effect. honestly im lv206 now and had they kept the frost effect i could have gotten much higher level since killing monsters is a pain without proper gear in scania, and that was the main mechanic that enabled ice lightning mages to train in high level areas without any help after the big bang update.
Sometimes I wonder if I should quit my lumi and run an explorer mage I really thought on Ice lighting mage tho
I made an i/l during burning but I actually didnt like the several toggles (weird pet peeve to have) so I had fun burning to 200 with their mobbing but I didnt feel like proceeding further to invest more in gear and nodes.
I want to like i/l so much but i have the same pet peeve 😡
I would have made this class my main if it wasn't for the annoying burst window you have to time at the end of infinity
i honestly think this class would be 5x better if you could macro ice sphere with chain lightining for bossing other then that its perfection for a mage.
also if u could make the lighting have a toggle to stay in one place like a right click of the skill ability for bossing and the default for mobbing
I/L is great but I wish chain lightning could be cast midair so that phantoms would get an indirect buff :(

Way back pre-bb, pre-pirates, pre-4th job, I was never into the explorer Mage classes (I was a Warrior main back then). Try as I might, I just could never vibe with any of them past late 2nd - early 3rd job. Now post-Destiny I decided to level all three to 140 for legion/link skills and all of them really surprised me, Ice/Lightning especially when it came to mobbing.
One of those classes that are an easy lv 250+.

On the topic of crazy mobbing mages, do a video on Luminous please. I had a 250+ I/L and switched to maining a Lumi after realising it has a version of chain lightning on steroids, with much crazier vertical reach (and a much easier & consistent bossing rotation). Being able to permanently stay in light mode allows me to literally kill whole maps from one platform endlessly compared to the constant teleporting between platforms on my I/L and placing summons. Minimum effort for maximum gain. Bossing on I/L does feel good most the time, but needing to have a boss monster in the corner to output maximum DPS is annoying, especially when holding onto skills on the off chance the bosses move to the edge of the screen or platform so you can actually land them.
The only thing I don’t like about lumi is changing modes for bossing 3 diff keys for the main attacking skills :/
