- Released back in 2010 the Battle Mage is already one of the older classes in MapleStory. Yet they have one of the worst play rates, only 0.7% of all level 250+ characters are battle mages.

same. play MS for this class and almost died when I saw they are nerfing it ... again. BM is Maplestory's Irelia.
Man I was SO upset when they nerfed the Dark Tornado skill years ago, used to tornado up, jump up n down, climb ladders. Then they made it left and right only, no jumping, and if you fell off the platform, you weren't getting back up.
I miss the tornado, it was such a cool and unique skill :(

and this was prob one of the first characters i played in EMS when bms was gone, and i was in love with it, i remember when you get the massive skill with no cooldown at lvl 160 or 170, it was fantastic
Back in my day, Battle Mage could have every aura active at once, all the time.
Yea I don't understand why they had to nerf that, it was what made them cool

Very all rounder type of mage class but being a mage warrior type
It was a very unique class that was really cool until they nerf and nerf and remade it into a carbon copy of other archetype class with only like 10% difference

@@Vonmoonlight Because of PvP. BaMs were the best at PvP even after several nerfs; auras being one of them. Auras should be unnerfed since the game is all PvE now.
I really think this class deserves an update like explorers and Cygnus knights! Tbh all of the resistance classes deserve some love

I mained Battle Mage back when Sweeping Staff had no cooldown. Man do I miss those days. Nexon had no reason to remove it considering other classes have way more OP mobbing skills. On top of that, all their other skills have 0 range, it was the perfect balance.
I love the battle mage concept and the recent changes despite the nerfs. I actually love telecasting and how I can stick to moving bosses so well to keep my damage up. Mobbing wise is a breeze especially with abyssal lightning. Just teleport and it clears your whole screen for you.
But like coppersan mentioned, this class needs alot of quality of life changes and a revamp of its skills.
Omg you did make a BaM. I used to main it a long time ago. Before every class's attacks hit half the map and teleport wasnt client sided... made it even harder to play lol. I wish they'd update resistance classes.

I play Battle Mage despite the nerfs. I just love the reaper motif. 😂
Miss the days of BaM when they had "Battle King Bar (BKB)" and it got turned into Sweeping Staff, but back then it had 0 cooldown and you could spam it to your hearts content. It made me REALLY love BaM back then for mobbing and it felt good and looked good and really brought some hype to the class because it was such a flashy and feel good skill. Now that it has a cooldown attached to it the mobbing pre-200 feels so bad. I wish they would also bring back aura stacking like the old days where all were active at the same time.
I've made a battlemage so often, when they first came out I was completely in love, but it fell of SO INCREDIBLY MUCH. It's a shame coz they lend themselves for a sick power fantasy but it's so lackluster. I wanted to play them so badly even just for the dark genesis skill when I was back in high school.
I fell in love with BaM when it first came out back in the day, after coming back to Maple about 2 years ago this class was my first 200, i stopped it at 230 tho, because of the weak bossing.
Now I play Aran and Luminous as my mains, I hope Nexon will give resistance an overhaul/remaster/rework in the future, and give BaM some love
I always like to think about a low popularity old class in the context of "if this was designed today, what would it be like".
For BaM, for certain all its main attacking skills would be significantly bigger range, with the aura scythe being it's main 4th job attacking skill and all it's Blow skills having scythe themed animations. Its teleport would also function like Bucc's 5th job skill where you can either use it for mobility or tap it without holding any direction keys to just use it in place to affect enemies around you without being forced to move to get more lines. The Blow skills would also all be the same first job skill, only receiving passive boosts each job advancement that alter its lines and animation, cutting down on boost node clutter.
Other than that I think the class is fine and the only other deterrent for new players trying out the class is that it for some reason is just consistently getting nerfed despite not being OP, and most people don't want to try to main or make a bossing mule for a class that has been nerfed regularly for the last few years.
It's kind of sad because it would be so easy to just hit the slider and make the range of the abilities get bigger which would make pre-200 far more bearable even if they do nothing else. Just swap each animation down so that the current animation goes to the job adv previous and they create a new final animation
I actually play mostly the resistance heroes just because of their uniqueness, but they really need to be updated badly.
I had the idea of a Runic knight which was essentially a Magician/Warrior hybrid that relies on STR & INT for its DPS
Since we had Thief+Pirate as Xenon, I'm still waiting on a Magician/Warrior hybrid. Maybe a magic knight class?
think soul master would fit the magic knight class fantasy
Back in Lion heart castle we would try to get a party with 5 great buffers (HS, CO, Dark Aura+Light Aura, SE & SI were great)
You could actually pump up leveling by a LOT, and it is fun to have a use for so many different classes! (Bishop, Battlemage, Paladin, Buccaneer, etc)
Would there be any use for such a party in the current maple? (a REAL use, perhaps leveling wise, or alternatively bossing/meso grinding)
If there is, would love to see a video about it ofcourse.

Parties are more important now than they were in the old days if you're actually trying to progress in the game. Late game bosses are near impossible without a party for the average Mapler. The game has evolved far past needing a party to level up thank fucking god :D
as a 238 Battlemage myself i feel i need to represent how good this class is, it has everything, you can eat chicken wings while mobbing LITERALLY high damage , hp and everything
tempted to invest into one, I'd love an afk class to farm on while im in class xD

in my opinion the rework that was planned a long time ago with new skills and the stone fists things was really good looking and could've been the difference between now and Battle Mages being like top 5 in the charts.
I actually liked that revamp, but i can see why people did not want it. Id rather they took that concept and turned it into a special class, like imagine a geomage pre-Lara

i remember when BaM and WH released, everyone was playing wildhunter on Scania, i stayed with my BaM until 2016, it was my first 200 back then

@@Frosty4Real I am having fun with him! I have not been able to play as much as I want so I am only level 31 now, but I love it! The mobility and my 4 hit skill is all I need at the moment. I tried some of the newer classes, but either felt them slow or that skills had some downtime in between uses. Overall, I have no regrets and I cannot wait until I am over level 100! 😌
Came back to Maple after many years of inactivity for the nostalgia, and I was so elated when trying out my main BaM 5th job skill. And then I tried Soul Master and oh boy the power creep was astronomical wtf.
They made an underwhelming Ignition class balance for the Cygnus Knights, blamed the players for complaining, and then lazed out on updating the Resistance. Resistance ended up being left behind and getting mediocre changes. Lot of characters still need an overhaul to catch up to the newer ones
I'm just amazed there are level 250+ beginners
I feel like the base resistance jobs are up next for a remaster update like Explorers and Cygnus Knights got

I dont know what wrong with Nexon, but they keep nerfing the BaM.
While other classes have changed and buff their Aoe, BaM job 1-2-3 still have the fking tiny blow range
The best way for battle mage is to let them have all the auras stack or be together as it was around 2012 on the Renegades patch.
The problem of this is that Nexon does not want Bam to be this "support-attacking" class and want them to be more situational rather than a debuffer and a jack of all traits. If anything , Battle mages should be a jack of all traits in terms of support and their DPS should be improved

And Bam got even more lacking when they lost their aura stack, and got nerfed to only have 1 out
Even for themselves, only able to use 1 at a time
Which while some things makes sense for the long term update since originally 4th is the final job
Alot of it felt meh and it wasn't really a happy consensus when it's to nerf his original kit just to bring it slightly better than it was at the way later stage
I used to be a BaM main during that season. I love it cause I love mages but I hate the potion drain and all those. BaM stacking auras made it really friendly to play it like a warrior while enjoying it as a mage. When I came back and I first main a Mercs cause it looks cool then IL cause I love blue. When doing union BaM I am so shocked at how much it changed and I no longer enjoyed it. IL now my fave. I like those simpler playstyle. Such a shame.
Just bring back PvP and BaMs will become SSS-tier again. They were meant to be the PvP class that can provide party support, but when solo mobbing and bossing is the meta they become mediocre at best.
If the Battle Mage had a favorite band it would be Crush 40.
@@MK_ULTRA420 Huh , in PvP of 2012 and 2013 , Bam was like S tier with Dark Knight , Phantom and Dual Blade. Bam was the mage killer cuz the aura sucks you out of MP , Dark Knight have insane dmg reflect , Dual Blade was the class with the most lines during that time and the frames that it start it was faster and came before yout skill , and Phantom other than just copying the most OP skills for PvP , its card thing was broken cuz it will pop up + the auto card buffed they got. Also Phantom was the first ever class to have the passive "something is attacking thing" before other classes have it as toggle like the NL mark or NW bats-
I had been a BaM main since the class was released, I think 2010. I used to say nothing would get me off of the class, and I really enjoy the fact that we almost never got nerfed. That's changed though and the saviour round of nerfs finally made me switch up my mains, since my damage already felt underwhelming. Now I am a Night Walker, which is all purply shit with some summons anyway LOL But now I have actual bossing damage and more coming up.

As a former BaM main I quit around 2012 when PvP died. Nothing else was as fun as dominating the entire map as a BaM and getting accused of hacking LOL
I used to love BAM when it had that saw attack, when they made it an extra attack, it felt weird

Man... I feel like the resistance classes need a small revamp. Not sure about wild hunter, mech, and blaster, but Xenon and battle mage need some touch ups. For xenons, they have a handful of skills that are no longer applicaple to today's playstyle. I wouldn't touch the Demons btw. (maybe Demon Avenger but I think DA is ok at the moment.) We'll see, I guess.

Illium is mainly unpopular because of how the class mechanically works, but the class can dish out SO much damage.
Night Lord and Battle Mage are my all time favorite classes.

I absolutely love battle mage ever since it came out. But I litterally cant play the class because my arm loses blood with the frequency at which I need to click buttons

The attack speed removal from dark conditioning shouldn't do anything right? Since BaM was affected by the weapon attack speed and is now going to be base 5 AS instead of Base 6 from Staff

I was there for day one of the Resistance drop. My brother did Wild Hunter and I did Battle Mage. I barely even slept for the first two days it came out. I remember standing at the Henesys docks and someone was like HOW ARE YOU ALREADY 68?
Ended up having more way more fun with the mechanic, though. I stopped playing before its alleged nerf, thankfully.

When this was first introduced I dropped my main character and every other class I was in for this I loved it especially that tornado ability, but after they Nerf the character in 2015 2016 I think I had to stop playing

I chose the class specifically because the concept of a scrappy mage has always appealed to me. I'm not a fan of trying to fix the class by just turning it into a summon class come 5th job.
Battle Mage lost all popularity when they planned on a rework for them around 2014 I think it was then scrapped it completely and then they took away aura stacking so they could eventually give you a lazy 5th job skill, and then gave you the reaper summon which is very lack luster compared the rework they had planned

@@zijungan7541 yeah, i stopped playing as much around 2012 and officially quit sometime between 2014-2016. i was an i/l mage and bowmaster main until battle mage came out!
It's a bossing class that required a fund to work and if you're alone there's no need to play the class cause there's another class that can help you farm faster and easier with higher damage than bam.
Late class character for boss with high ied and 1 hit skill (shield). Even in private server people only play the class in late game 😂😂
The pros is the class got free stance and ofc aura .
You should do this one on the Zero class too I rarely see anyone playing zero.
because we can not bloody create one unless Nexon decides to randomly make the class available during a big event.

@@guidoblok For me, i think it comes down to the fact that it's a quest-based class where they have to be completed. So, you are forbidden from grinding, making progress on the character very slow and difficult.
@@TheAsianMetalhead its not tho, i knocked out zero leveling and quest line in day as any other job would get to 200 in a day. technically they are much faster to level do to mirror world, and have a lot of benefits of just getting free crafting levels for no effort, i will say tho, the nerf to their dash/teleport hurts, its so slow now

I mained this class for years. Nexon just ended up messing with this class way too much over time. The constant changing of how aura mechanics worked eventually made me drop this class and go back to I/L. I think this class needs one thing to be higher tier again; make union aura a toggle like it used to be. Thematically this is my favorite class in the game, but Nexon seems to constantly miss the ball on it.

bm is cool and all but it just needs more scythe its lacking a lot of scythe
It's an amazing idea with poor execution. They used to actually be quite popular when they had the hyper skill that they could spam for mobbing. When that was removed though, the class went into this tech route with lazy animations and even lazier skills that no one really wanted to invest time into it. Not to mention telecasting was a huge portion of the damage they had (even more so before) and delays made it extremely difficult for players to get the maximum damage out of the class.
BIggest reason is 100% the delay/ping in GMS.
You should do a "Why Everyone SHOULD play Aran". As an aran main, they don't get much lime light for how very good all round they are

I don't blame people for not wanting to level them up. I leveled mine to 140 with 2x and events and I still wanted to Korean MapleStory. The lackluster range and burning through MP potions was a huge turn off. Not looking forward to leveling mine to 200 for legion...

Most players just don't enjoy the summoning classes. Active mobbing and/or managing buffs/debuffs is more fun
I've alwats LOVED the battle mage's aesthetic/theme, but it just doesn't feel good every time I try to pick it up.
Battle Mage would be my Magician Class of choice, but i like my TB atm.

I honestly loved playing Battle Mage back in the day. You could do quite a bit with it... but I feel like it's a playstyle you'd want to commit to.
As for the next classes I'd want to take a look at, I'm thinking Mechanic and Evan... probably two of the most keyboard-hungry classes in the game right now.
Evan was a mistake to play with arthritis XD but i love them
well hopefully seeing the pattern the resistance should be getting it up update next, right so maybe seeing a new battle mage

The resistance classes are in dire need of a revamp like explorers and cygnus
they really need to condense the numbers, its to the point where having 100 million on the screen means nothing.

Why nobody plays wild hunter please. I recently made one and got it to 208 and i really enjoy playing it. After 5th job there are kind of alot of skills to manage but im still having fun with it. Was suprised to see it only has a 0.5% playrate.

Resistance in general require a rework, they're clunky to play and most of the time they don't feel like current classes; its so sad they decided to cut the branch remasters because they dropped the ball hard on KoC.
I love the whole idea of battle mage and loved playing mine back in the day. But now they are just outdated and feel worse then most jobs

I liked it back when you could keep all your auras up at the same time, that change pushed me away, and like with corsair, I really dislike summons, so 5th job makes it worse.
Kinda seems like the new Dawn Warrior is what BaM would have been in this current maple meta.
My personal reason for not playing battle mage is because the class fantasy is more like "reaper" class than an actual battle mage.
Yeah, this class is in a terrible spot. And they still want to nerf it. Lol.
It seems like Nexon doesn't know what to do about it. They tried multiple times in the past, even changing it to a ranged at one point (with obvious uproar from the community). I'm not surprised, it's a pretty interesting concept. I said it when Battle Mage was released, and I say it now: I think the concept of a mage that is fighting in close combat like a warrior is incredibly cool. But I see how it could be problematic, especially in the Maple Story that we know today. I'm still a hopeless hopeful, though. So I hope that one day, they'll give that concept a proper spotlight!
My favorite in the game but it seems pretty unfair for the class i think. Hoping to see a fully rework from vfx to class mechanics since the coolest things i see from the class are just Dark Shock, Reaper and Fifth job, even the BM's hyper skill looks so bad because it's just basically a swing of a big staff 😑

overall, completely neutral and nothing changes, small buff early game though
battle mages are one of the top supports in the game, so you cannot have their solo damage be too high

Still "maining" BaM (meaning, I get all my cosmetics for BaM :P) but those nerfs sound insane... they're already only the #30 played class in KR reboot, and the attack speed nerf will hit GMS even more... well, unless they break attack speed in general for GMS as many people are expecting.
Still, tho this makes me sad :(
At least make it like Bishop and add an Ego mode that disables the buffs and party capabilities for solo power
