I was very lucky to meet Wilt Chamberlain twice. The first time was on January 17, 1998. That’s when Wilt returned to his alma mater, the University of Kansas, after a 40 year absence for his jersey retirement. My best friend was in medical school at KU at the time and scored us two tickets. Man, I was so excited for that. I brought along a large Kansas coffee table book (should have brought a basketball) in hopes of getting Wilt’s autograph. When we got to Allen Fieldhouse, we were told that Wilt would not be signing autographs. Bummer. However, with about 2 minutes left in the game, the game announcer declared over the speakers, “Wilt Chamberlain will sign autographs after the game for a limited time!” So I jumped up from our nose-bleed seats and ran down to court level and waited. Wilt was so incredibly moved by all the love the Kansas fans showered him with. He later said it was the happiest day of his entire life!! Wow!! To show his appreciation, Wilt stayed afterwards for about 2.5 hours signing autographs for every single fan that wanted one. It’s estimated that he signed over 2,000 autographs after the game! When it was my turn, I told Wilt, “Welcome home, Mr. Chamberlain!” Wilt look at me and replied, “Thank you. It’s great to be home.” The other time I met Wilt was in June of 1999 at a sports card convention in Overland Park, Kansas just 4 months before Wilt’s tragic passing in October 1999. I got his autograph on an NBA Official Game Ball. Wilt was so nice to everyone. He even let me get a picture with him for free! I got behind the autograph table, knelt down, and put my arm around Wilt’s shoulder. Btw, his hands were HUGE. I didn’t bring a camera to the event (stupid), but the woman behind me had hers. She heard me regretting to my friend that we hadn’t brought a camera, so without even asking her, she offered to take the picture and send it to me after her film was developed. She was from St. Louis. I was worried she might forget, but after a couple of weeks I got the picture in the mail!! What a nice woman. Wilt was so friendly and polite to everyone, and he seemed to be very happy to meet his fans…unlike some celebrities. Those were two great experiences.

He scored 62 points in a single game w/o overtime on the argueable best defender of all times, Bill Russell. No doubt he is the GOAT. Imagine averaging 50-25 for a season and don't getting the MVP trophy. Happened to Wilt 1962 - they gave it to Bill Russell (19-23). Nobody roots for Goliath. See the dudes Wilt is playing against? Average players today at your local YMCA would beat most of those guys they’re barely 6 foot, non athletic, don’t have much skill and are extremely uncoordinated. Wilt is still amazing, I’m not denying that. He would be great in any era but he doesn’t average more than 30-35 ppg in today’s NBA even in his prime.
@@kissmyvansdude It's quite simple: Embiid averaged 33.1 ppg playing 34.6 mpg avg last season (MVP), and is averaging 35.3 ppg playing 34 mpg avg for the actual season. Wilt was able to play 48 min per game in his prime (45.8 mpg avg for career, never fouled out) at full throttle on even higher pace than today. Do the math. I can't understand why people think he wouldn't dominate games today while watching Giannis and Embiid already doing it. Wilt was superior to both of them in any physical aspect. Don't confuse evolution of the game with talent and Basketball IQ. Wilt would adapt to todays game like he adapted to any sport he competed in at high level (volleyball, track&field, etc.). You act like they had the brain capacity of neandertalers back in the 60s. Prime Wilt scored 48 pts (62 max) or more pts on Bill Russell (argueable the greatest defender of all times) and the 1962 Celtics (7 HoF players) 5 times in a single season. He also grabbed 55 rebounds vs Bill Russell (#2 all time rebounder) in a single game w/o overtime 1967. If you consider this as weak competition I can't help. A year 2000 born Wilt Norman Chamberlain benefitting from improved gear (esp. court, shoes, board and hoop), medical care, nutrution, training facilities and methods, information technology, transport, etc. would DESTROY todays league. He was a true athlete up there with Bo Jackson and Jim Thorpe. btw: From 1973-2019 players were measured with shoes. Wilt and his competition were measured barefoot. Difference in average height of starting centers 1963 compared to 2021 is less than a half inch. If Wilt was on Celtics and Russell was on 76ers,Lakers or Frisco Boston would have won same amount of titles or more.Russell had bette4 teammates Wilt didn't except the year 76ers won and set season record for more wins
And nobody ever averaged more rebounds a season or career along with a record that will never be broken the fabulous 50.4 season average and probably not another 100 point game or play 48 minutes a game all season.Younger people youtube Wilt you'll learn fast who the greatest was
Some folks say they don't believe he scored 100 points. I have no doubts about it. Scoring 100 points was no sweat for him. If he, and the team had set out for him to do it, from the start of the game, he would have had it, probably in 3 quarters, or less.

The only other player you could argue that had multiple rule changes made primarily because of his dominance was Dick (Night Train) Lane. His face mask tackle was made illegal, and then his close line tackle was made illegal. Then he creates the forearm shiver, which not too long after also became illegal.
LOL... still cracks me up! BOTH Wilt and Jordan shot from the chest early in their careers. Fortunately , They could out-jump people enuff to get it off. If Wilt hadn't changed his shot @ the FT line...he mighta shot 65-70% from the stripe.

I believe everything I’ve heard about Wilt. Although Wilt doesn’t make my top five of you start talking about the best one on one or defense no one would beat Wilt! To fast, to strong and could just jump to high. Your talking about 7 + ft that had almost a 4 ft vertical. Forget about it
@@chipschannel9494 I agree that Wilt could do it all. I agree that he is maybe the best defensive player of all time. I believe one on one he is the best that’s ever been but it’s a team sport. When he lead the league in assists he did so because people were saying he was selfish and he wanted to prove them wrong. It had nothing to do with what was best for the team. In my studies I would take Kareem and Russell over Wilt. Not that they were better but in my opinion they were better team players. You like Wilt better and I can respect that. Wilt is one of the few autographed pictures I have on my wall
@@michaelterry4394 I hope you’re not insinuating that those teams would have won without Russell. Beat Wilt without Russell? Wilt Chamberlain was the greatest athlete of the 20th century. In 1962 he averaged 52pts&35rbs for a season. Unequaled in today's game. He never fouled out of a game, holds 75+records that'll never be broken
I argued with my daughter-in-law about this. Of course, we are talking apples and oranges. My take was if I had the first pick for a all time team it would be Wilt. Of course, being 25 years younger she picked Michael. Claiming he was the greatest bb player ever. I chose Byrd as my small forward next. Then I had to explain how Larry Bird had schooled Jorden over his career. Telling her 23 was second team. At point Pistol Pete. No one in the league can or has handled a bb like Maravich. Sit down Curry. Even though I can't stand the Spurs. Tim Duncan could be my Power forward. Koby is my 2 guard
Wilt had weaknesses. He was a 50% freethrow shooter, but so was Shaq and Russell. His ego may have been his biggest weakness. However to say he would beat Jordan 1 on 1 is a bit of a stretch. Yes if he gets to the basket he is unstoppable, but he has to get there. As athletic as he is Jordan will just shoot 10 footers until Wilt has to come out to defend then Jordan flies by to a dunk or acrobatic layup. I am sure if he played now he would be a better freethrow shooter and even three point shooter, but we will never know. However, I put Wilt ahead of Lebronand many others if not all others.
He would totally destroy mike , as Wilt told Mike , they changed the rules to make the game harder for Wilt , then changed the game to make it easier for MJ . Wilt was a college track star , in both the guarter mile and the High jump and in retirement he was a founding member of the pro volleyball league ,not golf.
He would block shots especially gust Johnson. It was a clean block and he separated his shoulder. I don't think you could drive unwield and get away with it. He blocked Jabar when he was 3890 days older
Yes Jordan was faster but not by a whole lot. 40 yard dash numbers for Jordan 4.38 hand timed. Wilts was 4.4 hand timed. That's not much of an advantage especially when adjusting for Wilts length. Jordan might have gotten one dunk and that's when Wilt would have told him not to try that again. So it would have been a struggle for Jordan to have scored and we know Wilt would have easily scored on Jordan. Maybe Jordan could beat him but just based on recorded data it would appear less likely. Which isn't to take away from jordan. We just don't see humans that big and with his athleticism or stamina.
Umm, let us not forget Wilt was QUICK and beat Jim Brown at his peak in at least two 40 yard dashes, unbelievable Vertical and power and length. He would have destroyed Michael.
"SEMITISM", according to Webster's and ALL of the other dictionaries, means you "Practice or believe in SHOWING JEWS FAVOR”... "SEMITIC" refers to ALL of the people of the area, Palestinians, Syrians and yes, isralies too... THEREFORE, "antisemitism" and "antisemitic" mean two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things... I LOVE Palestinian people, I do NOT believe in showing ANYONE "favor", ESPECIALLY anyone that believe they are BORN SUPERIOR to ME... that I and everyone else is "just Goyim"... That is the MOST SUPREMACIST set of beliefs in the world and I'm ALLOWED to THINK that way and CHOOSE to NOT support it!! The one thing I do KNOW, I've been BEGGING for someone of that "faith"/NATIONAL IDENTITY to come TALK to me and EXPLAIN to me what I'm "WRONG about", EXPLAIN to me WHY we give israel (a "FIRST WORLD" country) 3.8 BILLION DOLLARS a year INSTEAD of using it to fund ANTI-PEDOPHILE groups or Veterans groups or Women's Rights groups or a PLETHORA of other BETTER causes, EXPLAIN to me ANY of the stuff that is supposedly "non-existent" and EXPLAIN what other reasons people feel the way they do about israel? I am a PERSON OF COLOR, my grandfather was a CONCENTRATION CAMP SURVIVOR, so you CAN'T just write me off as "some dumb skinhead", yet I NEVER have ANYBODY that believes my OPINION WORTHY enough to come TRY to "adjust" it. I'm just supposed to believe a bunch of stuff that DOESN'T MAKE SENSE (well, OTHER than "conspiracy") because it makes people uncomfortable talking about it.. AND/OR, I'm RIGHT and people don't LIKE that... I'm open to being wrong, but again, I'm just not worthy enough, apparently... Just look at all of the responses I will get on THIS comment.. anybody who ASKS QUESTIONS or points out the INCREDIBLE HYPOCRISY and OBVIOUS APARTHEID going on, like Ben & Jerry's saying they no longer want to sell in ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED TERRITORIES (STILL selling IN israel though), gets INSTANTLY labeled as someone who "hates jews", when Ben & Jerry's is a JEWISH COMPANY.. how does that work??? How is it that retirement funds for average people are being threatened over this? How come nobody's really talking about it? Again, I'd LOVE to be WRONG, I'd LOVE for SOMEBODY to just come EXPLAIN it to me ANY of this, but NOBODY ever seems WILLING, because APPARENTLY I'M just beneath YOU.. am I WRONG?
Wilt Chamberlain the greatest player ever. I don't think so considering when he played he towered over the rest of the league physically with his height.

Embiid averaged 33.1 ppg playing 34.6 mpg avg last season (MVP), and is averaging 35.3 ppg playing 34 mpg avg for the actual season.
Except Kareem no player in NBA history had to face more HoF players on his position than Wilt did, nobody faced more per game (8 up to 10 teams for the majority of his career). 35 of 90s starters wouldn't even get a bench spot in 60s NBA, because of only 8 (up to 10) teams.
*yes, another George Johnson, 6'11"
If Wilt was on Celtics and Russell was on 76ers,Lakers or Frisco Boston would have won same amount of titles or more.Russell had bette4 teammates Wilt didn't except the year 76ers won and set season record for more wins
And nobody ever averaged more rebounds a season or career along with a record that will never be broken the fabulous 50.4 season average and probably not another 100 point game or play 48 minutes a game all season.Younger people youtube Wilt you'll learn fast who the greatest was
Awesome
Some folks say they don't believe he scored 100 points. I have no doubts about it. Scoring 100 points was no sweat for him. If he, and the team had set out for him to do it, from the start of the game, he would have had it, probably in 3 quarters, or less.
And no 3 pointers back then either. What a player Wilt was.
Don’t take sheep serous whom don’t believe things that were witnessed before they were born just because they are brainwashed by whatever narrative best helps the narrative of who they were told was the goat lol

oh and let's not forget wilt had no 3 point lnie. i have seen the video wehre he won a 5 dollar bet making 4 hook shots in a row from teh corner. the most difficult 3 there is since you have to be perfect. plus Heinneson stated he saw wilt make 20/25 shots from half court in practice one time. so he coul dhave ha no problem scoring those especially with practice. but even with all that. if you take the 529 3 pointers that MJ made, which would have only counted as 2 in wil'ts time. his average drops to like 29.6 so wilt stil beats him
The most impressive thing here , is the players not breaking their ankles in the low top converse
Wilt blocked/grabbed shots out of the air like a rebound. Greatest athlete ever
they say he averaged about 8 blks/game

Forget about it
You would bench the most prolific scorer and rebounder EVER , How many other “Centers”have lead the league in assists . That’s a EXTREMELY SHORT list.
Most of Russels teams had better personnel. Enough said everything is conjecture hindsight is 20 20

"Aol" lol..
Why do the "Jewish players" always get TOP billing/said first???
Wilt and Russell not only were ncaa bball all americans they were track and field all americans
He played with the Harlem Globetrotters while waiting for the NBA season to start. The first point-center.
You didn't fly by Wilt, he ran a 10.8 in the 110yd dash,.
Umm, let us not forget Wilt was QUICK and beat Jim Brown at his peak in at least two 40 yard dashes, unbelievable Vertical and power and length. He would have destroyed Michael.
How can you call him the greatest when he couldn't do a basic skill, namely, shoot fouls.
