I don’t know how such a sweet simple sound can keep a burning urge in my belly to cry or scream. She’s wonderful and I’m incredibly excited to see finally see her live.
REALLY???people are complaining about her haircut..get a grip people...close your eyes and listen if you don't like the haircut...or better yet don't do either.....she is amazingly talented
To the people who keep complaining about the amp not being on or the amp being too low, you should look into Waxahatchee before you judge her. Her first album American Weekend is supposed to have a low fi sound hence her choosing to not turn on the amp.
Watching this almost 11 years later is so inspiring. Saw her and her band live two days ago- how far she's come! But still the same excellent, sensitive songwriter.
Hers is a Squier 51, a very well recognized model from the company, because it's the only model Squier does which it's not a cheaper version of its big brother model. In fact, Fender tried a Fender 51, which was an "upgraded" version of the Squier 51 and it failed. Besides, Squier made some models made in Japan which are highly sought after, like the Vista series and the most recent Classic Vibe models.
truly a legend, and finally getting the awareness she deserves. listen to her album 'Saint Cloud" if you haven't yet. backed by detroit band Bonny Doon, she takes on a new alternative folk americana sound and blessed our ears with the best album of 2020. (right next to Delta Spirit's "What Is There" album)
Well said, sir. Raw as fuck is the way to describe this. Honest and pure. Genuine lo-fi. A full length of her would be awesome. Uncomfortable but awesome, in the old way of the word.
What a unique voice. I like her song Fire...check it out, it's on UA-cam. And another song of hers has a great music video of very modern dance inspired spontaneous kinda movement, very expressive. This NPR performance felt super stripped-down and vulnerable. Yay for us poets...it's brave work being in touch with and sharing from the heart. And I support anyone doing whatever clothes, hair, tattoo, etc. style they choose to express themselves.
I feel at peace listening to this. Awesome voice, I think it's interesting how many people on TDC close their eyes during their performance...I honestly think the ones who do have more emotion in their voice.
to quote another youtuber on a Fionn Regan video I'd have to call this 'quantifiably hipster fuck-folk' and I mean that in the most loving and excited way
What happened to that female trio/quartet from Europe? They wore very traditional garb that involved those fuzzy hats. It is not part of this NPR playlist.
We need an updated version this year!

So beautiful in it's simplicity. She's so shy, captivating and natural. Lovely performance and great lyrics.
I'd be shy if they mixed out my guitar too
REALLY???people are complaining about her haircut..get a grip people...close your eyes and listen if you don't like the haircut...or better yet don't do either.....she is amazingly talented
Yea that haircut is awful
Anyone who thinks this haircut is terrible clearly wasn’t conscious in the early 2010s
Who cares about her hair or looks. The songs are horrible.
The Internet: A place where songwriters can bare their souls in front of strangers and be rewarded by comments about their haircut
To be fair, nobody cares about your soul
Hey Daniel...that's just UA-cam bullshit. Matters not, she's great.
fantastic! I wish tiny desk had more of these raw lesser known goodies. What a gateway to discovering great music!
My heart is swelling so much with feels I can't can't even begin to describe it's intensity. So beautiful.
Please NPR we need Waxahatchee back
Interesting decision keeping the guitar so decidedly non-amplified. Enhances her voice/lyrics. Nice.
i wish i could've been here, she's one of the most original and unique singer songwriters i've heard in a long time
Such a solid songwriter! With a wonderful sense of time and space.
Bathtub is way too good.

So "lo fi" means playing live to the public with a ridiculously low volume? That's a first.
Hands down, this is my absolute favorite version of this song. I love it, even if it is sad.
It was as if she were playing alone in her room. I loved this. Katie is my favorite! Ever since king everything
Watching this almost 11 years later is so inspiring. Saw her and her band live two days ago- how far she's come! But still the same excellent, sensitive songwriter.
I like to see professional musicians playing Squier's. It makes me not feel bad about playing a Mexican Strat.
Squier's are on the up and up it seems!

who still listening to this in 2057?
Me!
No one.
Here from the segment that ran this morning with Katie and her sister Allison. I heard some samples of her stuff and had to come here. Glad I did.

this version of bathtub is ethereal
Sounds like a girl version of the guy from Neutral Milk Hotel...I love it.
JUST LOVE HER HAIRCUT
wow! a $150 Squier 51 . Cool guitars. Sounds nice
I noticed that right away. I couldn't make mine sound decent at all.
This is raw as fuck and I'm uncomfortable but I love it.

Regarding the comments about her guitar volume being low: Maybe they forgot to balance the levels of her mic with her guitar on the mixing board?
It is purposeful that her guitar volume is low.

Brillant
Awesome performance! Great voice, beautiful songs!
Saw Waxahatchee on Colbert. Really impressed.
I saw this woman out in Sonoma last night, and she and the rest of the band were incredible.
one of the best concerts ive ever experienced, out in la :)
Interesting to see someone using a Squier 51 - and there's something to be said for spare and simple guitar playing.
GREAT stuff!
FYI: If you can't hear her guitar, clean your ears out or see an ENT Specialist immediately!
god bathtub is heart-wrenching lol
three of my favorites :) thanks katie
Her guitar isn't even plugged in?! I love it, ver Dylan at Newport Folk Fest
The best music hurts to listen to, and this is no exception
LOL
She went from this performance to someday being one of my favorite performers in like 7 years
Love it.
She got that weird squier making it sound great.
Came here for the haircut comments, was not disappoint.
But love her music.
go girl! have fun!
oh my goodness that voice that stance that guitar work excellent again i can only thank you
I met Kevin Morby recently. Had no idea he was dating Waxahatchee and that she was sitting right next to him
I really enjoy this song
The Plains - album was incredible!
And where the hell has this been my whole life!!!
I am so happy to see this video is a thing.
Her smile when she finishes a song.
god, I love waxhatchee. and i'm in love with Katie crutchfield. even before I this video and realized she also had a bunch of badass tattoos
Beautiful
You can hear her Alabama accent... just a little bit.
One bad haircut immortalized forever on UA-cam.
Waxahatchee is wonderful.
Your awesome i love you voice!
Just perfect xx
so nice.
So purely beautiful
to quote another youtuber on a Fionn Regan video I'd have to call this 'quantifiably hipster fuck-folk' and I mean that in the most loving and excited way
guitar is so sick, so is she. so awesome
Yeah, delightful.
awesome:)

i have never felt so seen by words before
This young woman hypnotizes me. I can't turn it off!
Just so beautiful, stripped back and perfect x
im here because of lauren mayberry :P
Simply Tangled !!!!!!!
Fantastic voice. Woeful haircut
Cos her voice is SO changed by her haircut. Why would that be relevant to her voice whatsoever?
Like she or anyone else cares what you think about her haircut.
oh man. i kinda love her haircut.
I clicked on the video because I loved the haircut! hahaha
Says the dudes with shitty haircuts and lame hats. Why don't you go live in the mountains somewhere an stop bothering people. Coward.

WOW! PLAYING AN UN-AMPLIFIED ELECTRIC GUITAR IS GENIUS!

oh my
What do y’all think about this now?
This is painfully horrible to listen to....
Who cut her hair? her dog?
Love the song though.
She doesn't have a dog.
🩵🩵🩵🩵
Uuuuuuuh. wow
this girls too good for a damn mexican strat! get one made in cali
Glad somebody pointed it out, I was shocked to see she's playing a Squier! Somebody get her a Fender!
Who is this heffa???
her hairdo reminds me of my girlfriend. I'm serious.
I feel bad for your girlfriend.
lmao squier?
+Ernesto Hendrix player for 15 years. still love my Squier.
+Ernesto Hendrix Guitar brand snobbery?
+David Johnston I'm really more surprised that she, as a professional musician, still using a Squier
It seems to work fine for her. Look at the music coming out, not the markings on the guitar.
David Johnston alright i guess i should look at music more often. what is your favorite music to look at?
Sad. This makes me sad. Like Peter Murphy sad.
XOXOXOXOXOOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX
I would recommend switching to showers.
Goddamn dynamite
2024
Trust fund?
great voice, bad haircut.
Here's a tip: fuck off. You're hair looks like shit and you simply are just that, shit.
I like the haircut
