My dad bought a 2007 brand new and still has it today. It's had a few problems but man, they really don't make em like that anymore. People around me are surprised to see that this car is a Nissan, especially when they look at modern Pathfinders. This gen was definitely the best gen for the model.
I’m still driving a 2005 LE that is currently proud of its 348,000 km. Same story, it’s had some issues aside from the expected. But nonetheless it’s really been a solid vehicle!
I have an 07 SE, bone stock aside from 31" tires. Your comment made me laugh because anytime I bring up the vehicle in conversation I always mention word for word, "They don't make them like this anymore". I have always babied it and kept it in great condition and it always makes me laugh when people are shocked that it's a 2007 model year. Solid and robust frame, practically zero features aside from cruise control which means there's far less failure points, powerful engine, tows like nothing is behind it, the list never ends. Favorite vehicle I have ever owned. It has 210k miles on it and the only thing I have replaced on it aside from standard maintenance components is the heater core inlet and outlet connections located on the firewall and a cam position sensor. I will keep driving it until the wheels fall off.
@@jakekrauss3273 , when you changed your heater core inlet and outlet connections, were you able to change the connections by themselves or did you have to buy the entire assembly? I see the plastic housing in front of the firewall where the hose plugs in gets very brittle in time. Also, if I'm standing at the front of the car do you know which is the inlet and which is the outlet? I'm not a mechanic but thanks to UA-cam I don't think there's been much of anything I haven't been able to fix. Thank you in advance for your time and your response!
@@wolslayer1 i'm not mechanic either but I'm pretty sure you can just change out the inlets and outlets. if you think it's your heater core you'll be getting a coolant leak into your floorboards of the cab. you can try flushing it out and burping your coolant system. look up chrisfix on here, he makes good videos. they're not model specific videos but they give you a good idea of things.
My R51 Pathfinder just clocked over 620,440 miles...This version has a V8 5.8 L 370 Beast ! With service it every 6K miles oil and keeping the engine clean helps...New Transmission at 420,000 miles and plugs at 270K some little work...Still as powerful as the day we got her back in 2016 ( $20k with 150K ) This is one super powerful and strong Truck ! 🌲🖤👍
I have 2011 pathfinder since 2016 .. now it's done 260k KM and it's working just fine ! It's a great car .. BTW nothing from above happened to me except the radiator problem (just few days before)
My 05 Pathfinder is still pulling strong along with 210,554 miles on it. I changed only 4 things on it since I bought it back in 07 and it's been bullet proof since then. The radiator was the first thing I changed before the cross contamination problem became an issue 2nd the timing chain guide noise at 140,000mil 3rd valve covers 4th and a very important one was the firewall heater core hose tube at 89,000mil. It's just a awesome reliable SUV if you know where to to keep up with some of the common issues that have plagued this SUV from 05-10.
I own a 2012 identical to the vehicle in this video. Bought it New. It now has 167,000 miles. I am a retired aircraft mechanic and do my own servicing. I have had ZERO issues! Nothing ! NADA! That’s comforting. I bought a 2012 LE for 11k with 103000 miles in pristine condition. I love it. Taking it on its maiden camping trip next weekend in Arkansas. Only thing I notice on mine is a rattle in the rear glass/door. I think it may need rubber spacers where the hinge mounts to the glass to fix that, we will see.
Great video. I have a 2008 model I bought new, and still drive as my only vehicle in 2022 with 320,000 miles. Yes, I’ve had a few problems over the year, and one rebuilt trans but I’ve pulled trailers very often, including a 14’ flatbed and a 6’x10’ cargo, fully loaded many times. All in all this has been the best vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I saw this model in Saudi Arabia in 2010s. Fell in love with it. Now after 11 years finally had one. Nissan pathfinder 2007. Oh man, he is a beast even with his age...... Loved it more
I heard about the coolant into transmission fluid issue so I replace the radiator with a Danso one at 80k mils, also the rack and pinion started leaking at around 80k, other than these 2, I didn't have any other repair at all. Good vehicle. This year I gave it to my daughter who is about the same age as the car.
I bought a 2011 Pathfinder LE 4x4 last November and while not a fan all of the plastic (i.e., the cargo area tie down points are pot metal just as weak as plastic compared to the 1/4” hardened steel tie down points of my 1993 Pathfinder SE 4x4) this is my 4th Pathfinder and I love mine. My 1st was an absolute beast of a 4x4, upgraded the shocks all the way around and that bullet proof manual transmission never got stuck in mud, gravel creek beds, sand, snow, wetlands, NW USA rainforest waist high grass, rutted trails with puddles that almost swallowed me a couple of times. Drop it in 4LO and away we go. I miss that truck.
When I did the plugs I took the intake manifold off and took that opportunity to clean it and the engine compartment, and other misc pieces. Also since it was open I was able to easily change the pcv valve and tighten down my headers because I had a lil seapage. My 2010 with 187k on it is running like a dream
I enjoy seeing a video with a real automotive technician who is knowledgeable, regardless of gender. It reinforces the fact that it's not who you are, it's what you do.
If regardless of gender. Then don"t mention the gender. As it absolutely has no bearing (no pun intended). Just a real automotive technician will suffice.
I have had 3! That’s right 3 ignition coils replaced on my 08, once at the dealer and 2 times at local mechanics and not one of them mentioned a damn thing about needing to replace all of them. My truck is starting to buck again and I now know, thanks to you, it will keep happening if I don’t replace them all this time.
I am the owner of a 2006. I have 241k miles. My Pathfinder is so fast and drives like a new car still to this day. I have had every problem on this list. I just had to replace the ignition coils and spark plugs today. I just saw this video and feel I watched this video one day to late as they did not replace all 6 ignition coils. Ugh.....I did get new spark plugs and cylinder intake boots replaced. I have to go check but I think they only replaced 2 ignition coils today. Since I have owned my 2006 Pathfinder for13 years I have had every problem on this list and more. 1. The CATS go bad and you can have a check engine light on for years if you don't replace them. 2. Oil leaks needing to have all seals replaced. 3. Drive shaft 4. Radiator issues until you just say the heck with it and buy a new Radiator. The good thing is The new Nissan dealer in my town drove my Pathfinder at the same time I drove the 2020 models of Rogue and others and found none of the new Nissans have the power of the 2006. I am going to keep it on the road for a few more years. Bottom line the power and handling are superior with this 2006. 0-80 in no time flat. 120 MPH on the highway with ease. New Nissans are not something I can drive. Thank you for the video. Wish I had seen this a bit earlier but now I know it was not just me with all these Pathfinder issues.
Lol, my ‘05 Pathfinder had gone through the same issues, plus the replacement of fuel level float, cam position sensors, computer module, which I DIY on repairs. Overall, I love my Pathfinder for it’s ruggedness and torque/power throughout acceleration.
My 2005 Pathfinder just hit 237,000 miles (the distance from the earth to the moon). I had to change the shocks and struts and the two control arms because there are 18 years old. These SUVs are no longer built this way. It's body on frame, tows 6k lbs, fits 7 people and if the roof is built similar to the frontier (which it is) the roof can handle 4 times it's own weight before it collapses. PS the antifreeze/trans oil issue is fixed by getting a radiator that's not OEM. The radiator failed and ended up destroying the trans. The trans itself is rock solid on that thing.
One thing you missed was the evap emissions canister that gets clogged with dust. Still have our 2007 pathfinder. The dreaded coolant/transmission oil cooler leak occurred after the warranty expired. Trying to figure out what to do, and thinking of getting a new vehicle, as a rebuilt transmission was $7k. Got an email notification that Nissan had extended the warranty. Ran out to the car, and we were just under the repair milage by about 900 miles. Another transmision, and we were good to go. Been a very reliable vehicle.
Yep Nissan dropped the ball not making such an easy presentative to transmission failure a recall... Unfortunately bought my used Pathfinder with this problem...
Just replaced timing chain kit, and the spike of the old cog were worn down so bad, did the waterpump kit also 2009 2.5 litre, 150k milage now and she serves me well
When u started it up before it made that ticking sound? Cause my pathfinder makes that noise here and there whenever I start it up its hit or miss and goes away within like 2 seconds should I worry to fix it now or is it something I can wait a bit on?
For the fuel level sender issue, you can swap the guts from a TrailBlazer unit for much cheaper than swapping the whole unit. I cut the body under the rear seat for access, then used a fuel pump inspection cover from a used Nissan Armada to cover it back up. Works great. Reply if you have questions.
Going to look at a 2006 today thanks for letting me know what to look for hoping no problems with it looks like new in pictures 4x4 wife really wants it so everyone wish us luck...
Thank you so much! I was waiting for this one! I already have done #1 and so far, so good. I'm looking into the external trans cooler as a preventative move.
First of all, great video ma'am. 👍 I own an 08 with the VK56. Bought it used and one of the first mods I did was bypass the radiator coolant lines straight to the trans cooler. People tend to not flush the cooling system like they should and the coolant becomes acidic causing the trans fluid lines in the radiator to fail. It's a bad design but can be totally eliminated for about $5.
Hi. there is a problem with the catalytic converter also on 2010-2012 models. they can break apart and clog the engine. I have heard of such cases and I am afraid that I will not notice and it will be too late. how to recognize earlier if there are any symptoms? Thank you for your help.
I had this SUV and l traded it years ago. I hated it because it was always vibrating since it was new. It always vibrated when l stopped at the light. It vibrated so much that l had to shift it to neutral to lessen the vibration. I took it to the dealer twice but they never did anything about the problem. After some research l found out that most of these SUVs have the same issue right from the factory.
I'm just having the timing chain done on mine. The original chains are well known for being unreliable. There is however a upgrade, duplex timing chain kit, which I'm having mine changed to. It's a double chain which is much more reliable than the original chain
I went to the dealer and they said 1400 for the job. I asked the service dept if they ever saw the chains actually fail and they said no its just really noisy. I drove the truck for another 100k miles with no problem... just a little whining from the chains. Sold the truck for 5 grand still making noise.
@@elonsus9747 Correct. The tensioner part includes a plastic insert that wears somewhat prematurely especially if one does not do regular oil changes. Once they wear to a certain point, the steel rivets that are used to fabricate the plastic insert are exposed and the chain runs over those rivets resulting in the whining and clacking noise you hear in this video. My 2007 4.0 Xterra has 225k miles and so far I don't have this issue. I've always used full synthetic oil and changed every 10,000 miles. I think that makes a difference.
The only problem I have with videos like this is that the presenter speaks about an entire generation of vehicles as if every year had the same problems all the way through. The timing chain issue was largely resolved by 2009 and any 2010 with the issue would be on the level of fluke that any manufacturer might experience. The failed radiators were resolved by early 2010 as well but you have to check to see if you have the new part number as some of the firs 2010's built in late 2009 still had the old radiator. But what Nissan haters dismiss is that almost every make uses a radiator where transmission fluid is cooled by the radiator at least in part and every one of them that use this design has the very occasional problem with a failed radiator that destroys the transmission. It's just that the 2005 through 2009 4.0 liter engine radiators had a significantly high rate of failure than typical but still not a high enough percentage to say they will all fail because they don't. But if you find a good deal on a 2005 through 2009 just replace the radiator id there has been no failure yet and cross your fingers that the secondary timing chains don't cause you trouble because they are far more expensive to replace than the radiator if you're not well set up to do the job yourself. And even if you are it's a PITA so it might be worth it to let a dealer do it and if they F it up you have the warranty.
Same here, I would never invest in Nissan again, they knew about the problem and still charge customers for updated parts. I tell everyone stay away unless your planning to hold it for a short time.
Don't for get the catalytic converters breaking down and the dust getting sucked back in to the motor and scaring the cylinder walls and causing massive oil loss
Saludos
So what's causing the no start, when it mixes coolant with transmission fluid? Is there any sensors in the transmission that affect the starting? Cheers
#6-Front Crash Zone Sensor. People who live in the “salt belt” areas of the United States, that sensor gets corroded and you will get the air bag light flashing. Nissan made these sensors out of zinc, which corrodes after time and frying the sensor, causing the air bag not to work if you are in a crash. New ones are made of different material.
First and foremost she's lying about having to drop the gas tank to remove the fuel pump! I'm sure that's what they tell you and charge you for several hours of labor, when you don't have to pull the tank at all, flip up the rear left back seat, pull the carpet back and you'll see a black metal cover about 12" wide, there's 3 plastic screw ( locks ) twist them about 1/2 turn to left and pop the cover up, and Shazzam there's your fuel pump, remove the electrical plug, the two fuel lines, tap the lock counter clockwise until it reaches unlock position, then you pull the pump out, nice & easy! Don't let these parts stores b.s. you buy saying, the cheapest fuel pump you can get is $300 O'Reilly's is really bad about this, because they are selling you the entire unit, don't buy the stuff you already have, I called around and EVERYONE TOLD ME THE SAME THING, #1 THEY TOLD ME, I COULDN'T JUST BUY THE FUEL PUMP FOR THIS 04 NISSAN PATHFINDER, ADVANCE AUTO TOLD ME THIS AS WELL AND I PURCHASED THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF FROM AN ADVANCE STORE FOR $85, THAT'S THE TRUTH;
2010 pathfinder 4.0 220,000 miles never broken down original owner minus a few thousand miles had one recall that was fixed by dealership. Now making a high whining sound every so often after driving in higher speeds but not every time not sure what it could be
It could possibly be a transmission issue, due to engine coolant mixing in with the transmission fluid from a faulty radiator which will cause this problem. This same thing happened to me.
Yeah. I had problem 4 (I think) where the coolant mixed with my trans fluid and caused the entire transmission to go into self distruct. Was gonna cost me 7k (Australian) so I just sold it and bought something else
My radio only works sometimes the CD player works always but would really like to fix so radio works all the time. It an 08 pathfinder any ideas thanks
I have 05 pathfinder that won't shift out of low gear, it's been a great vehicle we have had it going on six years and its been the best vehicle we have ever had, but now at 530 I the morning my wife started to work in it and won't shift put of low gear, I'm about to hook up scan tool and try to reset tcm, praying it's nothing major
I have a 2009 which I've packed because non-starting and noisy timing chain - just like in your own here. But I've learnt a lot here now and will share with my mechanic, if he can understand your accent. Many thanks.
Trying to find a shop for the timing chain right now. Not excited to see that invoice after. Only had the car for 4 months and have had little issues here and there but in the end it had been otherwise ok. Been great for some basic offroading/overlanding and car camping, soon as this is done I'm looking forward to keeping it for a while.
Does anyone know if aftermarket radiators solve this problem? Looking to buy one of these used. I read that nissan used cheap metals in the radiator that corroded easily.
Yes they do, 2.5 2006 diesel got the fuel meter issue, and coolant transmission oil mix (hope to have spotted it in time, automatic still works fine), additionally as now driven over 560tkm, wheel bearings / suspension parts replaced
2005- 2010 pathfinder had issues with coolant mixing with oil. Had to replace my transmission. Buyers beware. Take off radiator cap and check fluid before buying. If it looks like hot chocolate……..RUN.
Just bypass the part of the radiator. The radiator is used to warm up the tyranny oil and if you lube in a warmer area, just run it a little longer and be a little more gentle until it does warm up.
My nissan pathfinder 2005 dci automatic only driving in 3rd gear. Speed reduces and Il have to switch off and start again. Also struggling to Pull or drive when switching on
Thanks for posting. Recently, I drive past a 2005 Pathfinder every day on someone's front yard that has a for sale sign on it. Dropped in yesterday to take a look. 190k miles. Started right up. Definitely needs the secondary timing chains job done immediately but I can do the labor myself. I have a 2007 Xterra with 225k so know this engine well. No SMOD so that's good. No dashboard lights. It's a Florida car so zero rust. It's a loaded model with power seats, leather, rear seat TV's etc... I can get it for $3000. What do you think?
For 3000 I think that is a steal my friend, I picked up a 06 LE edition(top model) for 11k way back in 2015. I still daily drive the pathfinder and up here in Wisconsin where it snows a lot, and where the cars get very very rusty. The car has thankfully had none of the issues in this video. I just replaced the factory radiator when I bought it. Every other problem occurs just if the car was not taken care of.
Hello. when i change gear from R to D, sometimes it jerks when driving fast. changing from R to D takes about 1.5 seconds. Is it normal? if i wait 1-2 seconds it is perfect. do these cars have it? that you have to wait a while from back R to D? Thanks
Were all of these xterras delivered with the same bad radiator design or are some better. My 06 xterra has 160000 miles and no radiator/transmission problems.
I had the coolant lines that run through the fire wall on the passenger side dry rot and it left us stranded on the side of the interstate I ordered a new one and it ran behind the engine and down to the frame on the passenger side. Did you say the timing chain was a recall so Nissan would cover it?
I have a 2006 Pathfinder The Mechanic told me in order to change the gas bump He have to take down the gas tank.Is this the correct way to do it? Thank you for your help.

But they say they fix the problem on Thor 2010 pathfinder and frontier
I have a 2005 Pathfinder and I found this video to be very helpful and I love to learn all about the vehicle I'm driving in case I have to work on it
Do you like the car?
I have an 07 with no problems but I did do the trans/radiator bypass surgery.
Can you show me how to do the bypass
Going to look at a 2006 today thanks for letting me know what to look for hoping no problems with it looks like new in pictures 4x4 wife really wants it so everyone wish us luck...
Thanks for the valuable information. Changing a radiator today
Good job! Very easy to follow and understand . I've actually been looking at older Pathfinders and Xterras so this has been a big help.
+Phoenix Rising Thanks for the feedback!
Can you show me how to do the bypass
Hi. there is a problem with the catalytic converter also on 2010-2012 models. they can break apart and clog the engine.
I have heard of such cases and I am afraid that I will not notice and it will be too late.
how to recognize earlier if there are any symptoms? Thank you for your help.
I have a 2008 with 273,000 miles it’s still running thanks the Lord
My dad bought it brand new from dealership and it was really new.i was in my life since I was born and it is still living
I love 1a auto. They showed me how to change the rear axle bearing on my trailblazer. Very clear instructions thanks 1a!!
Shifting into neutral and parked while sitting at a light is actually pretty bad for the tranny.
You are actually the best in this channel/entity. Thank you. I’m ok with the others, but, there is fact and then there is fiction/pretend!
+pepeshopping Thanks for the feedback!
I thought it was the tensioners that fail prematurely causing the whine and rattle. I’m on my original chain and tensioners. 179,000 miles.
Did your timing chain issue make a code
Radiator issue was fixed in the 2010-2012 models. They revamped the design.
I never see any videos on Mazda problems or issues. Guess, they are doing something right.
I do not buy or own Nissan since the 90's models.
+Hi Lot Thanks for the feedback!
This video gave my horrid flashbacks 😱
The cracked radiator, pink milkshake, no start issue happened to me.
Tainted my view of Nissan forever.
+Mike Ross Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Same here, I would never invest in Nissan again, they knew about the problem and still charge customers for updated parts. I tell everyone stay away unless your planning to hold it for a short time.
Came here before buying one ☝️, thank you . This helped
Another thing: my 2005 had an intermittent cutout. Turned out to be the crankshaft/flywheel sensor. Easy replacement thru the right fender shield.
It's amazing with all the technology we have these days and car manufacturers can't even make a reliable vehicles. It's just pathetic.
Don't for get the catalytic converters breaking down and the dust getting sucked back in to the motor and scaring the cylinder walls and causing massive oil loss
I believe that the last generation MR2 has the same issue. The cats are located next to the header.
My 350z module for the gas is doing the same thing
The LE 2012 version is lit 🔥
Great info. Looking at Xterras and Pathfinders now. Thanks.
I had 2 of the 5 problems, lol. Timing chains, and misfire. My radiator was changed a long time ago to prevent PMOD.

Common thing: Rear coil springs snapped a loop. Barely noticable riding it and looking at the truck.
You must remove intake manifold to get to #1 coil pack and spark plug, I broke 2 coil pack, trying to put back in.
Does the pink milkshake happen in the manual transmission as well, or just the automatic?
Thank for the information. I love my 2005, but I know I'm putting a bunch of miles on it. Thank you so much.
It got torque doesn’t it
So can i prevent the coolant and tranny fluid from mixing by buying a new radiator and replacing the old one?
So what's causing the no start, when it mixes coolant with transmission fluid? Is there any sensors in the transmission that affect the starting? Cheers
would upgrade the radiator to an aftermarket aluminum one avoid the milkshake issue? At least longer than 50k miles per Original radiator?
Really helpful for me! Thanks
I wish i had seen these videos a few years back. I now understand the gremlins ob my former truck.
+K G Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
If I get a new radiator and change the fluid and filter in the trans will that fix anything
The milkshake thing can he fixed by doing a simple bypass
#6-Front Crash Zone Sensor.
People who live in the “salt belt” areas of the United States, that sensor gets corroded and you will get the air bag light flashing. Nissan made these sensors out of zinc, which corrodes after time and frying the sensor, causing the air bag not to work if you are in a crash. New ones are made of different material.
First and foremost she's lying about having to drop the gas tank to remove the fuel pump!
I'm sure that's what they tell you and charge you for several hours of labor, when you don't have to pull the tank at all, flip up the rear left back seat, pull the carpet back and you'll see a black metal cover about 12" wide, there's 3 plastic screw ( locks ) twist them about 1/2 turn to left and pop the cover up, and Shazzam there's your fuel pump, remove the electrical plug, the two fuel lines, tap the lock counter clockwise until it reaches unlock position, then you pull the pump out, nice & easy!
Don't let these parts stores b.s. you buy saying, the cheapest fuel pump you can get is $300
O'Reilly's is really bad about this, because they are selling you the entire unit, don't buy the stuff you already have, I called around and EVERYONE TOLD ME THE SAME THING, #1 THEY TOLD ME, I COULDN'T JUST BUY THE FUEL PUMP FOR THIS 04 NISSAN PATHFINDER, ADVANCE AUTO TOLD ME THIS AS WELL AND I PURCHASED THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF FROM AN ADVANCE STORE FOR $85, THAT'S THE TRUTH;
2010 pathfinder 4.0 220,000 miles never broken down original owner minus a few thousand miles had one recall that was fixed by dealership. Now making a high whining sound every so often after driving in higher speeds but not every time not sure what it could be
I have a 2008 Pathfinder. My mechanic has done a lot of coolant transmission bypass work.
I just got my nissan pathfinder 2008 and I was wondering if there is anything problem with the model 2008
@@fredycano460 yes this video is for 2005 - 2012 models
My 2005 nissan pathfinder starts to stutter or shake at 40 mph. Im gonna try my luck on the coils. Thank you for the video it was very helpful
It could possibly be a transmission issue, due to engine coolant mixing in with the transmission fluid from a faulty radiator which will cause this problem. This same thing happened to me.
For us on a 2010 it has been cam and crank position sensors.
Any suggestions on p420/430 codes bank 1 and 2? Thnx
I enjoy your videos… your mechanics are very good. She is very good…!
And this is why my 05 is my first and last Nissan.
Excellent video and good advice. Thank you!
I had to do almost everything they did in this video, this week my head gasket cracked. Good thing I hate money and love to throw it at my car.
Does anyone know if aftermarket radiators solve this problem? Looking to buy one of these used. I read that nissan used cheap metals in the radiator that corroded easily.
My nissan pathfinder stereo only works wen its cold any help on what might be ?
Do these problems happen on the diesel model
Yes they do, 2.5 2006 diesel got the fuel meter issue, and coolant transmission oil mix (hope to have spotted it in time, automatic still works fine), additionally as now driven over 560tkm, wheel bearings / suspension parts replaced
The pink milkshake, does that happen with the 96-04 2nd gen Pathfinder (3.5 vq35de) as well? Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much you have been very informative
Nice video. These cars aren't as bad as the cheap GM equivalents but they are still low grade compared to a Four runner.
Go cheaper. They sell for $1,500 around here. Too many expensive issues as they age.

Hello. when i change gear from R to D, sometimes it jerks when driving fast. changing from R to D takes about 1.5 seconds. Is it normal? if i wait 1-2 seconds it is perfect. do these cars have it? that you have to wait a while from back R to D? Thanks
I like how she tells the story.
Are the radiators an issue on the v8 pathfinders also?
Hi i have a 2005 pathfinder 4.0. I want to put a newer motor what year would it fit ?
